Scarlet Koito, 5 years after the events of Pokemon SV from my timeskip AU fanfic, Operation Comet Punch, where they are in the role of 'player character' in the game's storyline (remixing a character from the manga into the game). Redesign by me, artwork by su1zide, who did a fantastic job! Twitter upload here. Definitely will be comming more of the characters from them!
They are a freelance mercenary, a Champion Rank trainer of Paldea, and travels around the world wherever the pay is good, running oddjobs, doing dangerous work and making it look easy.
Until one day, a job brings them back to the Great Crater...
You can check out the ongoing fic here!

Ranking every Riverdale Season (from worst to best)
Reminder: this is just MY opinion. Feel free to share your own!
7. Season 5
With the exception of the first 3 episodes (which I just consider to be part of 4), this season was just a huge nothingburger disappointment. The idea of a time jump was cool, and it even started out okay. Then it quickly went off the rails and not only fell back into repeat territory but the jump itself was just executed so poorly… I was beyond done with Hiram villain stuff atp. The Mothmen were fine, just nowhere near as good as the Gargoyle King or Black Hood for me. Too many characters are written TOO awfully (especially the queer characters) and sometimes it feels like they tried to cram way too much into it. It just leaves the season feeling bloated and incoherent. Best parts by far were Toni getting a big role and the introduction of Tabitha.
Still, those weren’t enough to save the season imo. Overall S5 felt the least like Riverdale to me & it was lowkey boring a lot, so it gets last place. Boo. 🍅
6. Season 4
I’m actually so serious when I say I really love this season. S5 is probably the only one I dislike, the rest of these can change at the drop of a hat lol.
The main reason I’m putting S4 here is that it was very hit or miss with my enjoyment of the storylines. Jughead’s stuff at Stonewall was okay. Cheryl got another unhinged story when she should’ve been getting therapy, Archie’s story was mind-numbing, The Auteur was creepy and great until it was revealed to be Jellybean (wah-wah-wah). Maybe it has to do with COVID throwing things off, but the whole season was just a little lackluster and disjointed. Also, TICKLE-PORN?????
The tribute to Luke Perry was beautiful tho. Miss him. 💔
5. Season 1
ALRIGHT. Before you pull out those pitchforks, just hear me out. It’s an incredible season, it’s the most well-written, the tone was amazing, and it set everything up perfectly.
But I do think that because it’s only the first season, and because it’s so short, a lot of the dynamics I personally love just don’t exist. Toni isn’t on the show yet. And I feel like part of what made Riverdale stand out, WAS the craziness and the willingness to do literally anything remotely cuckoo, which S1 just didn’t have. I’m just personally very attracted to wackiness of the other seasons. It’s a little overrated.
But again, this still season is INCREDIBLE and I’m still obsessed with its’ vibes.
4. Season 7
Don’t hurt me. 😭
But buckle up, because I have a lot to say here.
I REALLY had such a good time with this season… I mean, the Choni of it all is really want gets me obsessively thinking about this season on a daily basis. The way they were treated in the first half is everything I wished for them back in the earlier seasons. If this were a ranking based on Choni throughout the seasons, S7 would be #1. Kevin also got a ton of great stuff. S7 was so kind to the queer characters… Other than them, I just love how they got to have FUN. They took us back in time and basically just put the characters into an old-timey Archie Comic. Ridiculous but entertaining side plots that actually kept me interested and put the characters in a totally new environment. And despite the fact that people seem to want to ignore this, they ARE still the characters we’ve known and loved since S1, they just didn’t remember. But the memories are still there, and still inform all of their decisions and relationships.
Unfortunately, my biggest gripe with S7 is the way it feels disconnected to the rest of the show overall. They really let the comet story flop hard. Even if we decided to stay in the 50s in the end, we should’ve had way more time with our characters with their memories. They should’ve had conversations that were long overdue, that circle back and bring things to a close, the way final seasons should. I would’ve preferred they go back to the present, but in an altered timeline due to all the changes made to their lives. Tabitha was WASTED and thrown away and it makes me so mad tbh. They chickened out with the Varchie vs Barchie thing and instead we got that dumbass polycule and everyone dating everyone only for literally no one to end up with anyone (except Choni & Clevin uwu). The later half is especially a letdown, because that’s when we should’ve been ramping up to the end with their memories and certain people coming back together. Instead, we just got a lot of randomness. Which, while fun, doesn’t make for a good final season imo.
I think this season would’ve been ranked in my top 3 had it NOT been the final one…
It’s such a polarizing season for me and that’s why it’s smack dab in the middle!
3. Season 2
What a lot of people consider the glory days lol.
Everything that was well-established in S1 was built on and just made even better. The dynamics between the core four and each one of their storylines was spot on and interesting. Black Hood is probably the most interesting mystery villain we ever had on the show and delving deeper into the Cooper family was great. The slasher horror movie vibes with Black Hood’s story & his victims were just elite.
The season was darker and full of lots of twists and turns, which I always appreciate to keep my on my toes. We got introduced to Toni and Choni was born!
It did have some meh stuff tho, the Archie vs Hiram wasn’t all that interesting to me in this season, even though I DO like Hiram a lot. He’s always been an intriguing character to me, I just think he was severely overused. I also don’t like Bughead lol. The Chic stuff is hit or miss. It was bordering on crazy, but not quite at that sweet spot yet.
Overall this season was more exciting and deeper than even the likes of S1. And this is, of course, where we started getting into the Southside Serpents and the gang wars, which I think is such an iconic aspect of the show. Just a fun, deeper, more interesting season for me!
2. Season 6
I’m a sucker for witches and magic and time travel shenanigans, so this season was RIGHT up my alley. Rivervale, Sabrina, the spookiness, Cheryl’s witch arc, Percival was great, Tabitha getting to shine, I loved SO much of this season. Having one villain, that they all focus on I think did wonders for the cohesiveness of the season. Almost everyone got involved in it, there weren’t as many tangential storylines, and the buildup to the comet was so much fun. It was the perfect blend of camp and wackadoodleness and serious life/death stuff.
The worst part for me, is the ships. Tangs being a plague on society and them making Toni’s whole storyline about being a mother (a bad, awful one ugh). Fangs was never a standout to me, but they just made him insufferable this season. The custody battle was insanely stupid and a waste of time. “Baby Anthony” sucked (Dale FTW). Barchie has always bored me. Cheryl/Heather just felt like besties lol. The ships suffered hard in this season lol.
Still, we got Choni confirmed soulmates and Thabigail + Jughead/Tabitha were cute. So that aspect wasn’t ALL bad.
Tonally, it’s soooo different from the other seasons but I think they strike a better balance between mystery villainous plot and campiness than the other seasons. I ate up the supernatural and horror stuff, the plot is one of the most consistent in the whole show, there’s good character development and I just loved the craziness. They easily redeemed themselves after that abysmal S5. 🙏
1. Season 3
Ahhh PEAK insanity. Wild, compelling, dark but also silly af sometimes. The show went off the rails in the best way and I have a blast every time I watch it. A true fever dream. They embraced the crazy and I think that’s what sets it apart from all the other seasons. Imo, there isn’t a single “bad” episode here. They were still in high school, giving us that teenage drama/those dynamics that made Riverdale what it is. My fav ships were together (not without their drama), there was an intriguing mystery with the Gargoyle King. The flashback episode with the parents was amazinggggg and I loved everything about the Gryphon’s and Gargoyle’s storyline and how it trickled down to affect so many people. The atmosphere of the season, the main cast that got focus and actually got to have screentime together, Heathers heing probably their strongest musical. I love it SO MUCH.
There are some weaker points tho. There is a lot that happens this season, like A LOT. But I enjoyed it so much that I lowkey give it a pass for being so convoluted. Dilton was wasted and killed off after not getting much in general. Bughead & Veggie suck. I wish the G&G and Cult stuff had been intertwined better.
An organ harvesting cult led by Chad Michael Murray? Archie fighting a bear? Mass seizures? Babies thrown into a fire and then levitating? Veronica opening a speakeasy as a teenager? Choni cat burglars? Archie in juvie? Bunker sex? Speakeasy sex? Fizzle rocks? Killer DnD? THE EPIC HIGHS AND LOWS OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL?
I-C-O-N-I-C. Riverdale is at its best for me when it doesn’t care about being a normal gritty teen show. Maybe this season was a little messier, but I think the sheer fun and craziness more than makes up for that. Everytime I rewatch this season, I enjoy the crap out of it and am reminded why I love these characters and this silly little show so much. ♥️
So to recap:
S3 > S6 > S2 > S7 > S1 > S4 > S5
P.S: if there’s a major typo or I put something in the wrong season, lemme know. I just regurgitated this all from memory when I woke up so my thoughts were hella jumbled…

[Interview TL] 4Gamer’s Weekly VTuber Files #21 - Rikka
source
Name: Rikka Company: Holostars (1st generation) Streaming platform: YouTube SNS: X (Twitter) Hashtags: Live #りつすた / Fanart #りつあーと / Clips #ちょこりっか Character/Model designer: Fuyuomi Debut Date: October 20th, 2019 Birthday Date: April 15th Height: 179cm Introduction: A "high-tech" Holoroid. Because his memory capacity is limited to 2GB, he can be a bit of an airhead. His main charm was the gap between his soft talking voice and singing voice. Currently working hard to share his songs around the world.
10 QUESTIONS FOR VTUBERS
Q01. Tell us your main (streaming) content! I mainly focus my streaming content on anything music-related. Things like making my songs, I also do tons of acoustic singing streams. I've also done music-related events/projects, with the recent one being The "VTuber Singing King" which is also my biggest project yet!
Q02. What was the cue that kickstarted your streaming activity? As I am a Holoroid born of COVER corporation's technology, I've been born a streamer. I began my streaming career in order to understand more about humans. There are times when my listeners are often more knowledgeable so everyday has always been a learning day for me.
Q03. Please recommend us your “newcomer’s friendly” videos or stream archive! I recommend my 3rd year anniversary live, I think from there you would be able to discern what kind of activities I've been doing up until now. I'm using "Live" itself as the concept for the stream, so you'll be able to see how I was from the start up until now. It plays basically like a rewind so I think it'll be an easy watch for newcomers!
youtube
As for games-related, I have a high preference for death-trap games so I think game streams I've done like "Super Mario Maker 2" will be fun to watch. Having to be stuck in the same area for so many times may not be good for the brain, but all those feelings get replaced with a cheerful sense of accomplishment the moment I manage to pass it. The gap between my music-related and game-related content is something that could be fun to watch I think!
Q04. Tell us things that you like or something you’re good at! My specialty is playing the guitar, making songs, and playing death-trap games. As for the things I like, it'll be chocolate, sake, and cats.
Q05. Tell us a hobby or content that has piqued your interest lately! I'm currently hooked with "Street Fighter 6". Some of the Holostars members were also as addicted to the point we were already holding our own tournaments with each other. I always strive to finish any games I've started so I managed to get into Master rank now. I also like watching professional SF6 matches and learning from them. As for hobbies, I like searching for B-grade horror movies. But rather than a documentary I prefer one that includes a lot of short footage. My favorite type of story is the one that depicts humans as the real terror itself.
Q06. Is there any VTuber around that has caught your attention? Let us know! Shibuya Hal-kun and Machita Chima-san, if it's within the Hololive Production then it's definitely Hoshimachi Suisei-san. Hal-kun is known within the VTuber-sphere as the organizer of one of the biggest gaming events, so I'm looking forward to what he could come up with next! The first time I heard Machita Chima's voice, her singing skill is great but more than that she's highly expressive in her tones, she's such a wonderful singer and one I respected a lot! And lastly, Hoshimachi Suisei-san is a talent and my senior from the same company, however just like her name-- she really gives an impact like a comet herself through her activities, I wonder how far those glimmers could take her, her existence is one I'd like to continue to observe and admire.
Q07. What are other things you’re paying attention to other than VTubers? I've had the honor to work with voice actors before, so there are instances where I would watch their streams or catch up on their activities as a reference when I'm planning for a project/event. The ones I pay attention to the most are those I've collaborated with before like Eguchi Takuya-san, Okamoto Nobuhiko-san, and Ono Yuuki-san.
Q08. Is there a recent thing that left a deep impression on you, and is there anything else you’d like to try out? I thought doing a PR for music equipment, instruments, or even a soundproofed room might be quite interesting. And I'm always open when it comes to death-trap type games (lol), my favorite is souls-like games.
Q09. What sort of content you’d like to challenge yourself for now? I'd like to challenge myself with a solo live. It's my dream to perform solo on a stage with elaborate production and songs as my fans were hyping together with me. I would also like to perform for anime/drama theme songs, or even for commercials!
Q10. Tell us your message to the readers! I would be happy if this interview gets you to watch my stream. My music streams are generally more toward the calming type, while my gaming streams are more stoic and fun. It would brighten my day if you could check me out, regardless of your gender.

Belong, Seek, and Avoid Tag
Thank you @thecomfywriter and @the-golden-comet for tagging me, this sounds like a lot of fun!
Rules: A person's identity can also be shaped by their social connections. Identify three things about your character: What groups do they belong to, and what groups do they believe they do not? What kind of people do they tend to seek, and what kind of people would they rather avoid?
Doing the three characters from The Daughter of Magic:
Belong:
Kaiden: Kaiden doesn't "Belong" to the group, but he is a part of it (he has not been granted the rank of master, but he is on the council) He doesn't know everything, for worse, but he still tries to accomplish having a community.
Sasha: Sasha and Raymond share the same group as Kaiden but are more active. They run the operation and do most of the heavy lifting in the science department.
Raymond: Raymond is the leader, he's taken everyone in and does most of the planning. He's great at what he does but is littered with flaws and takes advantage of those in the group.
Seek:
Kaiden: He seeks people he can depend on, he wants to have a community, one that can be mutually beneficial, but he often ends up alone, although it doesn't really bother him.
Sasha: She seeks people like her, and people that she can impress and gain recognition from. Those two prerequisites tend to lower her chances a considerable about but since she's almost constantly around people like her she can be comfortable.
Raymond: He seeks people that could be of use to him, or people that he can help so he gains their favor later on.
Avoid:
Kaiden: He tries to avoid things and any people that might harm his daughter, especially people from Raymond's past. What becomes ironic about this is that he accidentally surrounds himself with the kind of people he hates the most because he is bad at uncovering secrets.
Sasha: She avoids her dad, but ends up being around people like him the most. She wants to stay away from the empire he built but keeps finding herself back at the request of others.
Raymond: Generally tries to stay away from those who might appose him. His inner circle is knit tightly and he rarely accepts new acquaintances. He also ends up being forced very close to those he would oppose because of his own decisions.

The Sopranos: The Verdict
Wow. That was a show. A very good show. Very cynical and depressing, very funny and endearing.
Early on, my impression was that the show was sort of poised between episodic and serialized storytelling. But ultimately, one of my favorite things about the show ended up being how continuous and coherent a story it told. Characters remain relevant long after they die. Lines spoken in season one are deliberately echoed in later seasons: in the pilot, Carmela tells Tony that he’s going to hell, and in “Whitecaps” he throws that back in her face; in the season one finale, Tony tells his kids to “remember the little moments like this that were good,” and in the series finale AJ reminds him of that advice. I love stuff like that. It makes the story feel so alive.
Favorite character: without a doubt, Dr. Jennifer “Toodle-Fucking-Oo? What the Fuck Was That?” Melfi. I love her dedication to her work; I love her stubbornness; I love her professionalism; I love when her attitude gets in the way of her professionalism; I love her composure with her patients; I love how fiery and messy she can get when she’s not with her patients; I love her emphatic way of speaking; I love her thrill-seeking streak. I love her moral compass. She doesn’t always heed it, and you can disagree with how it’s calibrated, but it is calibrated nonetheless. Am I mixing metaphors? Can you “calibrate” a compass? Whatever. I love her. I could go on and on about her, and I will do so in future posts (for example, I WILL be making a post about The Blue Comet at some point because oh boy do I have thoughts about that episode), but to wrap up this bullet point: she’s one of the greatest characters I’ve ever met.
Second favorite character: Christopher “I’ve Been Totally Fucking Ostrafied” Moltisanti. Nearly everyone on this show gives glimpses of who they could have been if they’d grown up in a different environment, but in few characters are those glimpses as tragic to me as they are in Christopher. He has a great capacity for violence and recklessness and selfishness, and the life he’s lived has nourished these traits, but there are many signs of who he could have been. There’s his passion for screenwriting. There’s the fact that, however briefly, he considers running away with Adriana in “Long Term Parking.” There’s his fight against addiction, which might be the most impressive effort anyone on this show makes to change for the better when everyone and everything around them is dragging them down.
Third favorite character: It’s gotta be Tony. It’s just gotta. He’s despicable, but he’s not evil. If he was evil, the show would be boring and pointless.
Johnny Sacrimoni is a serious contender for fourth place, and I don’t even know why. I just couldn’t get enough of him.
It’s hard to rank the characters because almost all of them are just SO fantastic in one way or another. The one main character I just didn’t care about was Junior. He just wasn’t interesting to me. But his last scene still made me really sad.
In my mind I have a small canon of Dynamics, which is the word I use for relationships that are (1) extremely important to both the characters and the story and (2) too complex to be given a simple label such as friends, enemies, lovers, coworkers, etc. I am officially declaring Tony and Dr. Melfi a dynamic, so congratulations to them. Tony and Christopher are something very close to a dynamic as well, though they’re disqualified due to being family. (I have a bunch of arbitrary rules for what counts.)
Two most confusing things about the show: 1. The interstate mob politics were often hard for me to follow. 2. There were soooo many characters, I could never keep them straight. I actually have no idea when certain major characters made their first appearance because it took me such a long time to learn their face and name.
I hope Carmine held on to his realization that happiness is worth more than power. He could be the one person to actually change their life. I hope he’s thriving. I hope he’s got more films under his subspecies.
EDIT: One thing I forgot to say: I don't think I ever cared about a single one of Tony's mistresses.
I could have used less gratuitous nudity, especially since it was almost always women. Honestly, the gender disparity was more annoying than the gratuitousness. Either the women shouldn’t have to take their clothes off so often, or the men should start pulling their weight!
Overall grade: I really, really wanted to give this show an A+. Even after it moved my beloved Melfi to the sidelines, I was still going to put my personal feelings aside and give it an A+. But then in one of the show's few instances of clumsy storytelling, it fumbled her last episode, and I can’t excuse that. It's possible one day I'll forgive it for its sins and bump it back up to A+, but for now, it gets an A.

ranking my MT dream dream roles by how attainable* they are
*this is assuming a local theatre company is putting on the show, (even if they realistically wouldn’t) not broadway/national tour level lmao
Semi-Attainable
Agatha Trunchbull, Matilda: traditionally played by a male, (a thing I’m not very fond of, but don’t get me started lol) but her songs are right in my chest/belt range, and I enjoy terrorizing children, so.
Jennifer Honey, Matilda: so sweet. so kind. love her to pieces. Also sings right in my mix/head range. Mayzie LaBird, Seussical: despite it being the show everyone does in middle/high school, I’ve never been in it? but I saw a friend play Mayzie when I was little and immediately fell in love. diva icon istg
Mortica Addams, The Addams Family: now we’re talking bb!! i did a school production of the Addams Family a while ago and got cast as Alice. it was a lot of fun, but I think I’d fair callbacks better a second time around, now that I’ve had more proper training. Katherine Plumber: in my top 3 dream roles of all time. her music matches pretty well with my voice, her snark is so fun to read for, and also i can tap. i think if I picked a good audition song I’d have a solid shot.
Puck, a midsummers night dream: not a musical but i feel like a casting director would appreciate the fact that i am small and gnc and have been cast as comedic side characters. also he is tricky and I love that.
Iffy
Sonya Rostova, Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812: i really love her music and her character, but her voice sits at a rlly weird part of my range?? 50/50 if I’d even get a callback
Lydia Deetz, Beetlejuice: i just don’t think it’s realistic? her specific style of belting doesn’t treat my voice very well for some reason. still think dead mom slaps tho
Persephone, Hadestown: I’m just not old enough to fit the mature ‘Mother Nature’ vibe she has goin on
Hélène Bezukhova, Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812: see Persephone. im just not old enough yet to pull of that mature, slinky vibe she has. any role originated by Amber Grey is going to be out of my league for at least another 10+ years.
LMAFO KEEP DREAMING
Carlotta, Phantom of the Opera: Not in a million years. She’s so dramatic and fun but I am not a coloratura 😭. Judas Iscariot, Jesus Christ Superstar: no one, and I mean no one, is casting me as Judas. however, i will continue to dream of playing this role until I’m six feet under
Kind Herod, Jesus Christ Superstar: see Judas. not happening. unless the casting pool is very, very small and very, very female heavy. then I might get a callback
The Fates, Hadestown: i can’t play any of their instruments

top 5 pieces in your wardrobe! top 5 musical theater songs!
ooooo these are good ones
Wardrobe pieces! I have many good ones. I'm not sure I can rank these properly-properly. I also do not think I have photos of all of them and if I go looking for photos I will never answer the ask.
cloak i made for my wedding, i'm still just. SO proud of it.
velvet tailcoat obtained from Marshall's; worn to many an occasion since
peacock-blue silk skirt purchased from opera costume sale; needs an underskirt, has one that's Just Okay, but is still glorious
purple skater-style dress that's a lace overlay (not particularly me) but is The Exact Correct Shade of Purple
a pair of over-the-knee socks: black with metallic stars on them. the heels and toes are pastel colours reminiscent of the early 90s. I love them.
Musical theatre songs! I'm going to TRY to put them in order but it's. Very hard.
Madame Guillotine, The Scarlet Pimpernel. Shows off Wildhorn's ability to handle complex ensembles in a way I honestly don't see done as compellingly by too many others.
Our Lady of the Underground, Hadestown. One of the songs which didn't change much from the original concept album, and slaps very hard. Also one of the small instances of disappointment I found in the staged version; I'm actually sad "the moon on tap at the bar" is interpreted as booze, I kinda loved the literal version in my head.
Letters, Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812. An excellent interlude. A little bit meta, a lot character, catchy. A+.
Opening Ceremony, Chess. It makes zero sense in musical-theatre context but it SLAPS. The whole musical is a little confused but an absolute banger.
Masquerade, Phantom of the Opera. Sue me, I'm a sucker for Act II openers. Honestly picking a #5 was really hard; after a while I come back to the same musicals over and over.
You'll note Into the Woods is not on this list despite being a truly excellent musical; I couldn't pull out one and I always hate listing prologues despite DEEPLY loving them.

Midrock
From the Icewind Dale Times Tribune...
Midrock the Prime’s “Banishment of Winter Tour” Brings a Heavy and Guttural New Sound to Ten Towns.
Midrock the Prime has descended upon the Icewind Dale and has brought an atypical cacophony to the taverns and town squares of the area. The bard (if you can call him that) is an up and coming artist and has written a torrent of songs that he says describes his forays into the city of Ythrin, and pays tributes to his comrades that helped to break the winter of the Western Frozenfar. His first stop was Lonleywood, on the eve of the last full moon, where he presented this new material for the first time. The older towns folk could barely tolerate the sound emanating from his drums… but the younger ages seemed to enjoy it, describing it as ‘heavy’, Midrock is an odd looking fellow with eyes of two different colors, and an affinity for dark clothing adorned with metal spikes and buckles. His songs center around a motley crew of characters…
The Posessed - a devilishly handsome man of cunning and guile afraid of the evil presence that lurks within his soul. The Savage - a woman champion of great physical stature touched with the mark of a bear beast. The Valkyrie - a strident and compassionless fighter who wears her grudges on her sleeve. The Starbringer - a strange creature from the stars who sees and speaks only the truth. The Ancient One - a wisened a dangerous wizard, keen of mind and hellbent on vanquishing his enemies,
Selections from set list are as follows:
I Believe I Can Fly - a story of a daring escape from a goblin stronghold. Bad Blood - a song about a cleric who was bitten by a werebear. Ice Ice Baby - a dark and brooding song about fighting creatures in an icy wilderness. My Humps - a story of a brutal journey across the sea on the back of a mythical whale. In Your Eyes - a song of vengeance and a battle against hordes of Gnothics. U Can’t Touch This - The tragic and epic grand finale about near-betrayal from within the group’s ranks and the breaking of the curse that brought the long winter to the land.
A curious (and perhaps ironic) choice is the opening act, a frumpy bard that goes by the name Benny G and performs what can only be described as glorious “light jazz covers” of songs from a long disbanded boy group called Faerie Fire. The crowd at Lonelywood loved his music, its catchy beats, and positive lyrics... they seemed genuinely disappointed when he failed to show up after the show for an encore and some beers.
After Midrock played the final show of the tour, paid off his band members and settled into Lonelywood… he is left with a feeling of disquiet and wanting. He knew his songs were good, and was gratified that they at least resonated with some of the young people in the towns he played in, but they didn’t LOVE it… actually, most people preferred Benny G’s set to his. Maybe he needs to play harder? … or louder? Maybe he needs to change instruments? Maybe he just needs new inspiration? Maybe his music just isn’t for everyone? Nah. Midrock puts away his drums for the spring and settles into playing a strange new magical instrument, similar to a lute…. it was crafted for him by the Clerics of Kelemvor in return for the Scroll of the Comet, and is adorned with skulls and other cool looking spiky things.
It fits him well. Drums were getting harder to play anyway with the strange numbness in his hand. He spends the next few months honing his skills on a new instrument, and struggling to find inspiration for his next set of songs. — One unusually warm morning, Midrock got up early to write a new song. His time practicing with his new instrument had progressed to the point where he started to notice its “voice” mingling with his own. It was an unexpected development and new to Midrock. In the past his songwriting had always started with a flash of a rhythmic inspiration: an unusual pattern heard on the wind from a far off village, the sound of hooves on cobblestone, a blacksmith's hammer, or the clash and excitement of steel in battle. In his ear these flashes could become a triumphant riff or an explosive intro and always led to his best work. But now there was something else: something behind his own familiar voice - two voices now telling a sad, dark story. Of past glory, of tremendous loss. This new song would be brutal and beautiful. As he worked he laughed at how easy the song was coming to him but he knew to listen to his muse as long as she was singing to him. By evening he was still feverishly writing. Adding new instruments to the bridge, tweaking chord progressions, imagining new polyrhythms with complex time signatures and changes. Hours passed. Sometime well into the night, he put down his quill. “Done”. The fever had passed. The muse was gone and a weariness settled over him. He closed his eyes and sat back in his chair. He couldn’t remember the last time he was so overcome by a song and let out a long breath. He stood and shook out his hand, “These damn pins and needles again”. Midrock went outside to relieve himself. Standing there, now emptied physically and emotionally, he started to feel…odd. What had just happened? He thought back on the hours he spent, madly writing this perfect song, it was an almost out-of-body feeling. But now something about it felt off. He rushed back inside to his table. All but one of the candles had guttered out but one was still burning. He reached down and held up the sheet of paper with his new song. “What is this?” He was perplexed. Where was the song? There were no chords, no verses, no polyrhythms, no lyrics. There was nothing. Nothing that resembled a song anyway. There was just one thing on the page. Written in his hand but more violently, a script that was maniacal, hurried, messy, almost raving. One phrase written, written over and over and over again. “Serve me”. Over and over, filling the page. “Serve me” He gasped and threw the page away from him. Then, looking down at his table, that same phrase covering the table, scrawled on every one of the mess of papers and parchments he had scattered on his table. “Serve me”, “Serve me” “Serve me” “Serve me”

GC Characters As Weird Architectural Choices In My School That Was Built A Longass Time Ago But Has Been Like 60% Modernized
Sorry i havent posted in a while take your content
Andrey- the fact that half the building is freezing and the other half is a sauna and you never know what's going to be what on any given day except that the history classrooms are always hot enough to cook an egg
Natasha- The Music Void. An unfinished room between the wall of the stairwell and the wall of the girls' bathroom, right across from the band room, where the band director keeps all the sheet music.
Sonya- The weird little half-wall in the art room near the back and if you go back behind there that's where all the art supplies are and it's a LOT
Marya- The fact that there isn't a fire alarm in the chemistry lab.
Anatole- The very tiny, ineffective stage filled with chairs that nobody ever uses in the gym. We have a theater for a reason, guys-
Helene- The singular gender-neutral bathroom, which is in the least convenient spot ever. It's a.k.a. the vaping/crying/sex bathroom, due to its floor-to-ceiling stalls and hardly anyone ever going in there.
Dolokhov- The windows overlooking the commons from every 2nd and 3rd floor hallway. You can watch your friends. You can watch your enemies. You can watch Evie play minecraft. Nobody will know. Well, unless they look up.
Bolkonsky- The strange and inexplicable musty bathroom in one of the history classrooms. It's just a door and a toilet and a sink. It's also slightly higher up than the rest of the ground?? There's like a 90% chance it doesn't even work tbh
Mary- The long rectangular Room of Banishment where i got sent once last year because i didn't have headphones so couldnt be on the zoom with the at-home kids if i was still in the classroom. It seems to serve no purpose except being a gigantic junk-drawer. I think there's a hello kitty microwave in there.
Balaga- The fact that you have to run like the fucking wind to get anywhere on time, because the school has 3 different floors and all the subjects are clustered together in their respective hallways. Wanna go from history to math? Down a bunch of stairs and to the opposite side of the building. You have 3 minutes. Run.
Pierre- the fucking kitchen right next to the office. Not even where they make the lunches it's just a tiny-ass kitchen with some mugs and plastic forks and a fridge

what musicals do you like
Hi anon sorry I just saw this I'm only now getting around to going through my inbox. Here's an incomplete list with no particular order or organization.
Falsettos is heartrending, I love the music, and it manages to actually be kinda good with its politics (a musical theatre miracle, believe me)
Ragtime is a problematic fav because its ostensibly progressive politics are actually worse than that of your average "apolitical" show when you look at them too long but it's got some of my favorite music in the whole genre. New Music still makes me cry every time I hear it.
The Sound of Music is also one with very bad politics when you look at it closely, but I love the movie too much and have done so for too long to abandon it now.
A Chorus Line is just an incredibly great musical by all measures. Usually shows about showbusiness don't rank highly in my regard (they tend to be SO self involved) but ACL manages to get you to care about its characters on a very fundamental level. It's also full of great music.
If I wasn't restraining myself, I'd list just about every Sondheim musical, but I don't want this post to be pages long so I'll do two. Into the Woods is, in my opinion, his most absolutely perfect; no wasted songs or dialogue, thematically rich, but not inaccessible or pretentious.
Company is the other Sondheim musical I'll recommend; it's a little higher concept, strung together less by a narrative than by characters and themes, but a lot of Sondheim's works are meditations on relationships, heteronormative ones especially, and this is maybe the biggest example of that.
Honestly, I still like Heathers. Even with the west end rework it's still lowbrow, but it's a lot of fun and has a compelling edge to it. Amelie is in a similar book where a not so good original work (terrible in Amelie's case) got redeemed by a west end rework that completely remade it.
Do you have the patience for a three hour musical? Watch Fiddler on the Roof. Gorgeous, melancholy music, and my favorite love song from any musical in Do You Love Me.
Cabaret is one of the most thematically dense works ever to hit the big stages in regards to how it uses (and abuses) the medium of theater. Definitely not a first watch, but there's so much to unpack there. It's so uncomfortably aware of the emotional voyeurism inherent in theater.
Obligatory modern musical reference - Hadestown is GREAT. It deserved every drop of its success. I also group Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 with Hadestown in my head as two recent musicals that got very experimental with their instrumentation and storytelling, even though Great Comet wasn't as successful.
Carrie the Musical's original run was such a notorious flop that it became synonymous with flop in the theater world. The revival with Marin Mazzie and Christie Altomare a decade or so ago is stunning with how much good they managed to carve out of the original's rotten husk
Okay, that isn't all, but I'm stopping myself there.
#I listened to A Strange Loop recently and really enjoyed what it was putting down#but I want to give it a few more listens and maybe try to find a bootleg before I give a full opinion

SU Music Rankings
Bc I can and I wanna start some Disk Horse rip. These are all in order of preference, with explanations, etc. It’s a long bitch. That said, I’m not counting little short jingles or small joke songs like Little Butler. This is the meat and potatoes of SU music- just under 30 songs. I might do the rest if people like my takes lol.
I scored it mostly on three bases- how dear it was to my heart, how much/often I relisten to it, and also what it means to the plot. That said, little fun songs don’t automatically go farther down than big, plot-heavy songs either! It’s a strange little balance.
Special Note: I don’t dislike any of this music! I love SU and that includes its bumps and glitches. I just pick favorite children lol.
1.) Change
Was there ever a more Steven moment than when he wiped the blood off his face and kissed it into sparkles? I think not.
If “Be Wherever You Are” is an ode to young Steven, then this is teen Steven’s. Talking about change, and how much and how little it can do. How he holds his arms up for Spinel to hug him, so trusting. How he seems able to just. Break into soft tears at will, and not to be manipulative- it’s just his kind nature. The warmth in his voice. Fuck yesssss.
2.) Change Your Mind
This song is only fifty five seconds and it’s EVERYTHING to me. It really felt like someone was speaking the words I’d always held deep inside of me, unsure of how to say. It feels like a goodbye to someone who never really loved me.
As much as I enjoyed Future, if this was the finale of SU, I would’ve been perfectly okay with that.
3.) Drift Away
This song gave me legitimate shivers the first time I heard it, and it still haunts me to this day. Spinel stayed, and waited, and all she got was a transmission thousands of years later. Fuck.
4.) Here We Are In The Future
THE MOVIE IS SU AS ITS BEST AND I WON’T BE SWAYED ON IT. Steven being a teen who loves his weird family but is growing just a bit sarcastic to their drama. The adorable love he and Connie share. His slow realization that he will always be working, always have things to do, is both somber and real. The Crystal Gems won’t be safe with one epic battle. They’ll be safe with years of hard work and love. HIS LITTLE HANDSHAKE WITH AMETHYST.
This is a helluva bop and a great way to summarize the main character’s backstories.
5.) Let’s Only Think About Love
Did ya’ll know that Zach Callison killed his throat with that last note? He gave his all for this performance in a vocal range he no longer comfortably do and by god did it SHINE. The FLAIR. The FORESHADOWING. All of the Gems all being awkward about Rose and Steven trying to bring them to the present. Peridot having a mini-existential crisis in a cute yellow dress. I love Zach Callison’s normal singing voice but man is that a fucking bop. Nothing will ever beat it.
6.) Here Comes A Thought
This bad boy helped me out a LOT with some mental issues I was dealing with in high school. I was unmedicated, unsupervised, and full of anxiety. I’d have break downs when I tried to speak about certain things. I couldn’t function. This song inspired me. It helped me feel okay with my intrusive thoughts.
And the episode! -chef’s kiss-. Once again bringing up the morally gray area of training child soldiers. Connie expanding her social group. Steven’s trauma hauling ass in that second half. The ANIMATION. Stevonnie’s gorgeous singing voice. GOD yes.
7.) It’s Over Isn’t It?
Just barely squeaking above Stronger Than You, this ballad is everything gorgeous. The whole episode is. I think Mr. Greg stands in the top five of my episodes for the entire show. It even got nominated!
There’s just so much about this song that I love. The gentle melancholy of Pearl’s voice. How the crew had to redo the shots for this bit bc Deedee went so fucking hard. The hard cuts between Pearl, remembering the love of her life, and Steven, who has begun to feel like he took her away. I’d recommend this song to anyone, regardless of what they do or don’t know about SU, simply bc it tugs so many heartstrings of love, loss, and responsibility.
8.) Stronger Than You
Did you realize this episode aired SEVEN years ago? This bitch was what got me into SU! Hearing about Ruby and Sapphire made my little gay heart so happy inside, and then getting a whole song confirming that they were a couple, that their love powered the strongest Gem on the team? Aaaaaaaaa
To this DAY I get excited when I hear Estelle start singing. This song is timeless. This song will live in media history. God I fucking love this song.
9.) Other Friends
I’m not the biggest musical person, so I hadn’t heard of Sarah Stiles before her casting as Spinel, but JESUS CHRIST the lady went hard. She went SO fucking hard. Sarah Stiles started on 100 and somehow just kept CLIMBING. You can just hear the sheer manic energy building in her voice, the anger and resentment. 10/10 Sarah Stiles is a queen.
10.) Independent Together
This made the list entirely bc the crew was like “you’re gonna get a himbo ass Steven-Greg fusion singing with Opal while Garnet flies across the moon on Lion while floating” and I am forever thankful to them for it
11.) Who We Are
Bismuth deserved more songs. ‘Nuff said.
12.) Peace and Love (On the Planet Earth)
It Could’ve been Great is EASILY one of my favorite s2 episodes. I love the entire concept of this song. Of Steven making music to reflect how much Earth means to him and his family. Of him teaching Peridot some self-care. Also Peridot’s singing voice is really cute and squeaky.
I know it’s silly, but I would’ve really enjoyed a flip around of this in Future! Like Peridot reminding Steven how much he loves music, that he needs to take time to relax for himself, maybe with a new verse or just a remix of the original song!
13.) Something Entirely New
I watched this episode as it aired, and I legitimately almost cried. I love Charlyne Yi’s voice so much ya’ll- her raspy, not perfect singing voice against Sapphire’s deep soothing lull is great.
And to have Ruby and Sapphire’s meeting be the way it was- for Ruby to bemoan Sapphire losing Homeworld, to being stuck with a single Ruby, while Sapphire is a noble who has always been taught everyone in her “caste” is vitally important (and has, in her own mind, taken that to mean every Gem, as she should) and how they come together and make each other happy. Good shit good shit.
14.) I’m Just a Comet
The fact that Greg’s music career never really blasted off pisses me off to this day bc Tom Scharpling’s voice is fucking BUTTER. Also the song really feels like a jab at his parents now that we know the kind of dynamic he had growing up. “This life in the stars if all I’ve ever known” is definitely him wiping away their existence after reminding them (and himself) the things they used to say about him.
15.) Do It For Her
This episode. This fucking episode. This episode got me permanently hooked on SU. I’d just binged season 1 and was kinda meh about it overall after the bop of Stronger Than You. “Oh,” I thought to myself, foolishly, “I’ll probably just casually watch this from time to time.”
Like three days later Sworn to the Sword aired and that was it. I was hooked! Pearl’s gentle training song turning darker and darker, Connie’s accompaniment from nervous to determined to fully into such a toxic mindset. The fact that SU had the BALLS to discuss the repercussions of training child soldiers, now and later. This episode was everything to me, STILL is everything to me.
Six years and well over 100 fanfics written later, I think it’s safe to say this show swallowed me whole and never let go.
16.) System/Boot.pearl_final(3)
I debated putting this on the list because it’s not anything crazy important, just a way to show things are Wrong, but I had to do it entirely bc Pearl is so damn SALTY.
Like telling us about the Gems makes sense, she felt like she was given a duty, but she went so damn petty. WHY is that Ruby alone. Gross. This Amethyst is a trash dump. Wtf are you people.
17.) Full Disclosure
This episode really feels like a turning point for SU. Before, the show had its dark moments- but now we’re in the thick of it, and it’s not going away. Full Disclosure felt like an rebuff to the idea of returning to any normal we’d established in season 1. Gems are actually a giant species now. Gems tried to kill us now. There’s this Yellow Diamond bitch who got namedropped. Something about a Cluster.
The song itself is BALLER, with its ingenious use of Steven’s ringtone and photos as he tries to decide whether to clue in Connie on all this nonsense. Meanwhile we, the audience, already know damn well Connie about to yeet some common sense into him.
18.) What’s the Use of Feeling Blue?
I’mma admit it- I’m a Yellow Diamond stan. I’ve always loved her- her anger, her poise, her hardworking nature. I actively argued against the “Yellow Shattered Pink” theories back in the day. But, man, when this arc leaked? I got so overexcited I was too jittery to watch it for like two days. It’s easily my favorite arc of the series. The sheer alien nature of the zoo, the Famethyst, and absolutely Patti Lupone’s beautiful ballad. Goddamn. Yellow singing to Blue to try and help her regain her old status, the warble in her voice as she reminds Blue she misses Pink too, the movement of the bubbles as she talks about attack. It gives me shivers to this day. FUCK.
19.) Tower of Mistakes
This is, fun fact, that only SU song I have completely memorized. The story itself is kinda funny! See, we lost internet at my house for a solid 5 to 6 months when these episodes aired, so I only got a very brief window to view them all. But this was the first Amethyst song in a long while, and I didn’t want to forget it! So I keep replaying it in my head for ages. And that’s still definitely a thing.
Anyway will never not be sad that this entire song was about making it up to Garnet for Amethyst’s perceived slights with Sugilite (which was a two-way road), only for Garnet to pressure her into fusion later when pissed and never discuss it again bc Garnet probably never thought twice about it and Amethyst has the emotional openness of a clam that’s just been told its ugly. Helluva way to make someone feel like shit, G. Helluva way to bottle that shit, Ames.
20.) On the Run
I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: Amethyst! Needed! More! Songs!
The dichotomy between Steven’s play and Amethyst’s honest desire to run away from home is so well-done, especially when you consider a lot of Steven and Amethyst’s actions are playing together. The song is also near and dear to me simply bc it’s my favorite Amethyst episode to exist (well, maybe second to What’s Your Problem, but not by much). Moments like these are all the proof I need that they were right to fuse first.
21.) Be Wherever You Are
This tune really just feels like an ode to who Steven was as a kid. Trapped on an island with no way home, and he’s just happy to be with his friends. The stars are beautiful and not oppressive. Also that one animatic with Lars and the Off Colors playing in the Homeworld Kindergarten to this music was iconic and made this song get stuck in my head for a solid month.
22.) Familiar
I ADORE how the crew use bright neon colors to show how alien Homeworld can be. And Steven recognizing that the Diamonds treat him how the CGs used to, and how prepared he is to “fix” a broken family. It’s a soft, gentle tune about melancholy. Also the Pebbles are beautiful.
23.) Let Me Drive My Van Into Your Heart
Such a cute little love ballad, but every time I listen to it now I just imagine the heart attack Rose must’ve had at the line “And if we look out of place/Well, baby, that's okay/I'll drive us into outer space.” like there’s a Vietnam war flashback if I ever heard one
24.) What Can I Do?
I’m kind of neutral on this one? Rose and Greg both have great voices, but the song itself lacks many lyrics. I think it was definitely a good way to show Rose’s flaws in thinking.
Also, I’m shocked they managed cram that much vaguely sexual innuendo into two minutes, followed by how Not Hetereo that dance between Rose and Pearl was, and not get their asses chewed by it. You go guys.
25.) Cookie Cat
I love a lot of the vibes this song has. The lyrics are so damn prophetic, but they also sound like the kind of weird 90s commercials I grew up on. It’s been like two decades since I saw the Shirley Temple commercial but I’ll be damned if I don’t remember “Animals crackers in my soup! Monkey and rabbits loop-de-loop.”
26.) Giant Woman
I am. NOT the biggest fan of Steven’s original singing voice. I feel bad saying that, since it was just Zach Callison as a kid, but he never jived well with me for some reason. So I wouldn’t listen to this on the fly.
The song itself is still really good though, with all sorts of fun animation of Amethyst and Pearl being bitchy to each other. It’s a bit sad in hindsight to see tiny Steven trying to get his moms to get along. Ahh, season 1.
27.) Strong in the Real Way
This song has SUCH a strong start. Pearl reflecting on Sugilite’s problems, but the show making sure to show us that Pearl’s lack of enthusiasm towards her also lends itself to jealousy as well as just general malaise. How much she cares about Steven, and wants him to grow up strong.
And then Steven just kinda. Ruins it? I appreciate his enthusiasm for tryna bulk up but to take what was starting as such a rich, personal song and broadcasting it to random strangers just makes me a bit sad. Almost a bit angry on her behalf?
28.) That Distant Shore
I KNOW this is gonna create some discourse, but I’m just not the biggest Lapis stan. I love her voice. I love the visuals of the song. And I get why she felt afraid and needed to flee.
But Lapis never got to take responsibility for her own actions. And, in the end, the song feels hollow to me- because we all know she’ll never talk to anyone about it, know she’ll burst back in and destroy the barn, and no one will ever question it. I like Lapis a lot, but I feel like her arc never was fully finished. She never got help. She never learned to feel safe.
29.) Dear Old Dad
I’ve yet to meet a single human being who likes this episode tbh. There’s some great discussion about what kind of parent Greg is from it, and what kind of dynamic he has with the Gems that he felt he had to fake an injury to hang out with his son. Honestly the first half was fine and dandy. It’s just that then they Greg just went out of his way to drag Steven away from missions and such. It never jived well with his character before or after.
Also, is it just me, or does Zach himself sound like he hates the song as he sings it? There’s no passion or heart in his voice. It sounds like they told him to read off cue cards and he did. Tom Scharpling’s best attempts didn’t save this one for being a skipper. But the episode, unfortunately, isn’t, so it gets a spot on here.

Top Fifteen Avatar Episodes, no I won’t be taking criticism at this time
These are the top fifteen best episodes, according to me, a person who just binged the show in three days. This is opinion but also my opinions are always right, so there.
15. The Chase
Bad ass villain girl gang chases the gaang and everyone comes together for the first time for a big ol’ fun fight which ends an emotional gut punch. Everything I ever wanted
14. The Blue Spirit
Badass mysterious guy with swords rescue’s Aang and turns out to be ZUKO??? Stunning. Makes us question who Zuko is as a character. Also, cool sword fighting
13. Tales of Ba Sing Se
Listen, you all know why this shit is here. It made you cry. It made me cry. We all cried. Let’s leave it at that
12. The Siege in the North
First major battle, high emotions, great action, soaring music. Good stuff.
11. The Beach
Villains being awkward and trying to be normal + therapy session on the beach = things I love
10. The Storm
Excellent character work. Paralleling our antagonist and hero. Diving into their deepest fears and mistakes. Stunning
9. The Day of Black Sun
Great battle plan, good showing from Azula, epic confrontation between Zuko and his trash father. The invasion was a failure but it didn’t fail to win my HEART
8. The Drill
Listen. It’s just a solidly paced episode with amazing action and it makes me cheer at the end. It’s not deep. I’m a simple girl. I like a good action movie.
7. Zuko Alone
Heart breaking. Gut wrenching. A poignant character study.
6. The Puppet Master
Look blood bending is sick, both in the cool way and the horrifying way and also katara is a bad ass, thanks
5. The Boiling Rock
Prison breaks and Sokka x Suki and the Zuko and Sokka bromance already made this great. But that Ty Lee, Mai betrayal at the end? GOLDEN
4. The Cross Roads of Destiny
Stellar character conflicts and inner turmoil. Heart wrenching. Dramatic. Makes you want to shake Zuko while still understand why he made his mistakes. Also, Azula is a stone cold bad ass and can shoot me with lightning anytime
3. The Blind Bandit
Her name is Toph. It sounds like tough. This has one of my favorite action sequences. Toph is welcome to kick my ass. I’d thank her for it.
2. Southern Raiders
I’m a Zutara. You know why this is here.
1. Sozin’s Comet, the four part finale.
Listen, I like good endings. I like endings that do the characters justice. I like happy endings that are earned through suffering. So this finale is great. Zuko and Katara vs Azula is still one of the best fights to ever happen. Aang’s final show down with the Fire lord is stunning. The White Lotus going to town is breath taking. Zuko and Aang hug and the balance is restored. Love it. Best episode. 10/10
And that’s it. The correct and definitive ranking. Honorable mention: the Waterbending scroll. Because I am, as I said, Zutara trash.
