whenever I see someone arguing about how buddy daddies isn't queer and people who think it is are ruining the anime for others I just go 🤨 for well... obvious reasons of how tf enjoying the show through queer lens would ruin it but also because how do these people think the show will end?? like... genuinely, how do you think this slice of life with two men each with hard past and trauma raising a daughter together which forces them to confront said traumas and grow as individuals and partners (let's also ignore the ambiguous connotations of using this word and history of using if we must) is going to end? cause obviously it's going to end with this imperfect makeshift family creating their home together and staying together. loving and supporting each other in their own ways for years to come. these two men raising Miri together, completely comfortable in this home they've created and existing together, completely fine with no other romantic relationships in their lives spending their years together as parents. just saying that's...that's pretty gay of them you know? and honestly even if you argue about it and pull two friends can raise a child together card... this anime still provides so much wholesome and good content for queer community in such basic ways "our bank account", "you think work's more important than our kid?!", Miri saying she loves having two dads, "these are our genes at work" and much more... just a lot of positivity all around so it's no wonder queer community is enjoying watching it, read their relationship as queer and take comfort from the show? and there is really nothing wrong with that especially when as I said we all know it will end with heart-warming closure of this found family being happy and together

Tumblr will often makes me feel detached from reality, but then I go to work and my coworkers make a "how dare you assume my gender" joke, or be flabbergasted by a kids cartoon featuring a cow that "identifies" as nonbinay/doesn't "feel" like a boy, or mention with horror how some early 20s detrans people in Sweden are currently suing their parents for giving parental permission for them to undergo ""gender-affirming"" surgery when they were minors, and I'm brought back to reality. Just stumbled upon one calling Astarion "effeminate". Why are we still using that word? What does it mean other than "this man is not behaving in the way I think men should"? "This man acts like a woman to me - because "acting like a woman" is a thing, yes - and he shouldnt". You have a game where the players, men and women, are never restricted by their sex. They can do and be wathever they want. But a man having fun with theatrics makes him effeminate.

Plus that post later said something along the lines of Astarion wanting to do the saving instead of being saved by Tav and called that a masculine need. It's just so ridiculous to me, a woman who never wanted to be saved and wanted to do the saving.

As much as I have things to complain about in the OFMD fandom, I do hate when ppl say it's the worst fandom they've ever been in / they've never seen a fandom act out this much / they think the show was a mistake or should be canceled.

For starters, I have issues with some Izzy stans and that's not a secret. But have any of you ever fucking met a Billy Hargove stan? I guarantee you'll wanna be besties with every single Izzy stan if only bc it's never going to be as bad as dealing with Billy Hargrove stans.

You wanna talk about shitty fandoms? Lets talk about the time a Jim Hopper stan told me I deserved the abuse I lived through growing up. Yes, in those /exact/ words.

You wanna talk about racism thats so bad it can't be ignored? You clearly never met the Arcana fandom. One of the love interests is a LITERAL NAZI based on the social and moral standards of the fictional world it exists in and over half the fandom makes death threats if you even question his motives. THE ONLY NATIVE CHARACTER WAS HIS LITERAL SLAVE AND PPL BLAME HIM FOR THE NAZIS HURTED FEELINGS.

some fandoms are just so... weird... about fanfic.

maybe it’s just me, but the more open character interpretations are, in addition to the fandom being so small... the less comments you tend to get. there’s always so much love around visual art, cosplay, photography of figures/models, and so on... but not a lot for fic?

writing is art, yes. i don’t like pitting visual art against writing because of it. it’s wholly unfair and actively harmful to anyone who makes any sort of creative work, full-stop. but it definitely feels like there isn’t as much commenting on fics when characterisation is so variable, compared to visual art. this fandom had a vibrant community of writers, but it eventually died out, leaving visual artists behind. when references are easy to find, of course visual art is going to come out on top; it’s so much more consistent, compared to how “writer a” chooses to write a certain character compared to “writer b”.

it’s certainly frustrating. in such a small fandom, you have to make your own fanworks, but it gets tiring, having to all of this by yourself, with no one looking at your works... or looking, but not saying “hey, i liked this, write more“.

all in all... just... comment. it doesn’t matter if the fic is super old, or super new, or unfinished, or finished, or anything in between. if you liked the fic, say you liked the fic, on the fic page. authors love that shit! even the “incomprehensible scream“ comments! go ahead!

you’ll get a lot more fic that way, and you won’t have to make your own food if you do.
