A Ramble Rant about Cg-ifying Parentifed Older Siblings
So this Rambley rant is brought you by - Me having tried to find Agere Dean Winchester content and finding the majority of the content was Dean being a CG.
This is not targeted towards anyone - I'm just venting and questioning this. Feel Free to respond to my message with either your feelings and how this works - examples of your own characters you feel are only treated as a CG due to their status of older siblings - or whatever you want to.
This post will also be focusing more of Agere dynamics with canon characters not Fictional CG for Real people/Reader. I don't really care who you HC your personal CG is. I'm ranting about Older Siblings being forced into the CG role to their little siblings that people HC as age regressors.
I just don't understand why so many people auto make Older siblings the CG to the younger siblings even if it goes against the character's personality or history. Isn't this just prolonging and keeping characters who where likely abused at-least lightly in the toxic and abusive role they where forced into?
My four example characters off the top of my head are -
Dean Winchester - Literally was forced to be a parent to his little brother Sam at 4 years old. Having no childhood while dealing with a drunk father and knowing about monsters being real at a rather young age.
Lorelai Blyndeff - Has been criticized for not stepping up after her mother died to raise Molly despite in book being shown to having sever trauma over her mother's death and literally blames herself and is trying to hide away from the world because shes scared she'll end up hurting people she cares about.
Billy Hargrove - A self destructive abused teenager with abandonment issues. Who is punished for his step sister misbehaving, while being forced to take care of her most of the time.
Spencer Reid - Not an older sibling but Spencer Reid's Father left Spencer to take care of his schizophrenic mother at 4 years old.
These are all characters I've seen HC or written as CGs (Often times more then i see them written as Regressors) even when personality wise + trauma wise they would make alot of sense to be regressors. Dean and Lorelai are both canonically have childish behaviors, interests and likes - some even caused from their trauma. Characters like Billy and Lorelai who are actively written with a strong dislike for being forced into the role of caregiver are still given this treatment due to their status as older siblings. Dean and Spencer where both stripped of their childhoods so young that they would barley have any form of memory of being a kid due to the chooses and actions of people around them.
So here is my question to you guys. What about these characters who where from young ages forced into Caregiver roles at the cost of their own childhoods - Or just older siblings in general; Makes them feel like CG material? Cause whenever i see them i'm like... Yep you regress due to your trauma. XD

Akaza Q4 and Douma Q12 (Like what nicknames he’s given akaza ^^)
-knyagere
Yay questions! Please forgive me if I get rambley I just love talking about these two! (人*´∀`)。*゚+
Question 4 - is their regression more voluntary or involuntary, do they ever regress without realizing?
Akaza's regression is mainly involuntary, he has little control on when or where he slips. He can put it off for a little bit but will almost always end up slipping in the end.
If he gets especially upset, usually by being reminded of his human life, he can end up regressing immediately without warning.
He generally has very little warning before he starts to feel small but he's usually pretty good at telling when he feels small all things considered :]
Question 12 - do they have any specific nicknames for when their regressed? What about for their caregiver(s) or friends?
Oh, Douma has SO MANY for akaza!! He calls him the usual pet names, sweetheart, sweetie, honey, ect. But his favorites to call him are "My Darling" ''My Dearest" "Sweet Boy" and "Snowflake".
He likes to add the term "My" to them. It's his way to show that he cares about him and likes taking care of him! He's not great at talking about his feelings or being open/vulnerable so he finds small ways like this to show it instead
It's also a reinsurance for Akaza, we all know that emotions are not his strong suit.
Vulnerability? Never heard of it.
So obviously his regression is a really personal thing to him and he has insecurities surrounding it, that being paired with his pre-existing insecurities he has a hard time believing someone exactly wants to look after him or wants him in general, so being referred to as "My Darling" or "My dearest" it helps to reassure that he's actually wanted and loved. Though he'd never admit that lol
They're dynamic really relies on the whole "it's the thought that counts" really ^^ (and I eat it up everytime)

You're really opening a can of fuckin worms with that question right there lol
I'm gonna preface this with a cut and I don't even know what I'm gonna write down there yet but as with all my meta posts it's probably going to be rambley as heck.
Todd Brotzman's emotional arc.
Todd Brotzman. Bellhop. Doting brother. Big fuckin liar.
Well, to start Todd's emotional state to start with is like a big stinky trash can that he keeps sticking his face in to keep smelling whiffs of it because he's a trash boy and he doesn't deserve to smell anything nice (his thoughts).
He's stuck. He hates what he did, but not enough to try to break his patterns because he knows breaking out of this doggy paddle he's doing to just stay afloat is going to destroy the fragile peace he's found. Breaking free would mean hurting Amanda, would mean losing her, would mean putting her in a position where she can't provide for herself and has to rely on him knowing what he did and lied about or cutting him off and suffering because she can't afford her meds or taking care of chores and he doesn't want to do that to her. He has convinced himself this is the best way to do things even if it keeps him from coming clean and he knows it's bad so he's constantly reminding himself what a dick he is as a punishment to himself. He isolates himself because of this self hating state he's in because letting people in would mean having to reveal what he is. I mean like he knows Dirk for like three days and confesses his biggest secret to him.
And back to Dirk, once he's introduced Todd is thrust into emotional change. Todd has been stuck, backed into a corner, living his life with his eyes half closed like he's half dead already, and then Dirk comes in and it's like a lung full of oxygen and crack cocaine. By episode 2, Todd is giving into the crazy, he's helping Dirk, he's going along to a hostage exchange, he's laughing with relief and adrenaline after they save Farah and telling Dirk he's brave and letting himself flirt a little with another person and his face looks more alive than he had the entire first episode.
But this isn't an emotional state that can last. It's a burst of lightning, but it's not grounded in anything, and Todd needs to deal with his shit so that he can actually make any of that stick.
He brings Amanda back to his apartment to "protect" her, wants her close, wants to know what's going on with her, because she is and has been his priority and the thing that keeps him getting out of bed the past several years. But this wild new flashy thing is here, Dirk and Farah and something that feels like a purpose outside of this guilt ridden caregiving situation and he wants it, wants to want it, to be a part of it, to help and dig and understand and this thing is bigger and interesting and Dirk is something and Farah is badass and he's just Todd but wait Dirk is a mess too and he needs someone to push him and maybe that can be me, maybe this works and it's discovering this new dynamic that he reluctantly likes to be a part of.
And that leads us into the digging episode when Todd reveals his secret. When he bristles at Dirk calling him a good friend because how can he be when he lied and has been lying to Amanda about his disease. And Dirk tells him that he doesn't have to keep being that guy, that it's this self fulfilling thing that because he isn't letting himself move forward, he is always going to be that guy, and he won't be able to move on until he comes clean. And Todd is like... yeah you're right because he knows that deep down, he knows that Amanda deserves to know, and he has hope that things will work out because Dirk sounds confident and they could fix it and it would be good.
And Amanda doesn't respond how he hoped, because how could she, and it's bad timing and it's too much and Todd feels like he's lost the only thing that has been keeping him going and when he finds himself next to Dirk in the Animal Control unit that helpless exhausted depressed look is back on his face. He has a black eye but it's fine because he deserves it. Amanda is gone and it's better because she deserves better than a shitty brother like him.
But then Dirk bursts into action and suddenly there's hope, they could fix everything and Todd clings to that because he has to. They go back in time and Todd is in this manic state where he's clinging to fixing everything with Amanda and ignoring the obvious signs that there isn't going to be fixing things with her. Things happened how they happened because there wasn't ever going to be another way that ended with her. The truth was always going to break things.
And he blames Dirk because he can't accept that it is his fault. He could have just kept going and going in that half alive state forever but Dirk just had to come along and make him think he deserved to be alive again and fuck him for doing that for ruining the fragile peace he had in the poor existence he had. At least he had Amanda, even if he didn't deserve her, even if everytime she talked about her pararibulitis it made him want to jump off a bridge, at least she still looked at him like her brother.
And he holds onto that anger until Amanda wakes him up and kicks him into shape. She makes him see that the way they were living, the life that Todd was desperate to cling onto, it sucked, for him and her and they have something better now, but its just not with each other. Because what he did was fucked up and she can't forgive that, bot right now, but she sees that what happened was making Todd a better person and pushes him not to let that go.
And he goes to Dirk, apologizes in his own way, accepts that he wants this new life, wants to find out what kind of person he can be with Dirk by his side.
But then Dirk is gone.
And Todd is thrust into chaos and he doesn't know who he is. Literally. He spend two months in a stupid barely disguised disguise chasing after the idea of a person he knew for one week, once again desperately thinking that this is going to fix everything if he can just find Dirk. And he's back in this masochistic self hating state, I deserve the pain because Amanda is gone and Dirk is gone and I fucked up and I don't deserve to get better because I don't know who I am but I know it's bad. But Farah is there and hes not completely isolated so there is at least something to keep him grounded... sort of. Farah tries but she's dealing with her own shit too and Todd is kind of a mess.
But also like Dirk is found and it's like that settles Todd. He can do this role. He can do Dirks partner because he did it once before, except Dirk doesn't play along how he expects. He's upset and closed off and scared and biting and Todd has to be softer, he has to push himself to reach out, to comfort and reassure and while it takes Todd a minute, he's a caregiver at his core. He likes taking care of people. He likes taking care of Dirk. But Dirk doesn't want that, he pushes back because people around him get hurt. And Todd having this rejected, lashes back and circles back to his original mission, fine this thing with Dirk isn't working, I can find Amanda, I can fix that and he goes off single minded to just get sister back. And once again, they're back face to face and Todd has to recognize his sister as her own person. She doesn't want Todd to fall back into that role he had before, they're different people now and she reminds Todd of that, that their priorities aren't the same. Todd flounders with that a bit, and then Dirk is back again and once again he's got a person to help and he reassures Dirk and they save the day and then things are over.
And I mean he's not finished emotionally growing, but I think at the end of s2, he's definitely learned some things, has grown. He still falls into some slightly codependent patterns, he's a caregiver, he wants to help, he's frustrated at times, but he wants to be supportive. He falls into masochistic tendencies, would be quick to jump into something that would hurt him if it helped someone he cared about avoid harm. I think he also probably struggles with his identity as a person. He's gone from Amanda's caregiver to Dirk's assistant/partner and we don't really see a lot that is Todd. I think he's spent years hating who Todd is that thinking about himself as a person is something he doesn't like to do. Like the idea of himself separate from what he does for other people would put his score so far below good that he'd deserve to get executed or something. We see a brief flash of something around the sound of nothing stuff where he talks about going to concerts and of course there's just too much going on for them to just talk about themselves as people, but it feels like once the crazy passes, Todd is going to struggle with the mundane, and I think that's something that all of them can relate to. Dirk and Farah and Todd are all strongly tied to their duty as an identity and struggle with having agency and self esteem as individuals separate from what they do.
Uh, the end.
Todd Brotzman.
Once again rambling blended up whatever all of this is. Dirk gently thoughts.
This fic is really taking me on a journey through Todd's psyche and I'm realizing there's a lot going on with Todd and his relationship with his problems, his pararibulitis, with Dirk and with his own self worth. And completely flipping the script on that is certainly a,, task.
with that in mind, I'm curious, what are some of y'all's head cannons or feelings about Todd's emotional arc? whether that be series long or just s1 or 2

Why are some age regressors so anti cgl's. if they have or want mommys or daddys.... I dont get it.. isnt that like having a cg??? idk of i make sense.. I want to cry because they are so rude...
This is gonna be a long rambley answer-
So generally speaking, cgl is the non-gender specific term for ddlg/ddlb/mdlb/mdlg, which are all kink communities based on the “dom(me)” part of the title. So a lot of people think of cgl as inherently kinky, which I can understand their reasoning. For a lot of people cgl could just describe the dynamic. The relationship between a caregiver and a little. But when used in community terms, CGL is mostly a simplification for kink communities, but based on the lack of “dom” being in the title, that’s not to say it can’t be used for regression.
With that said, a lot of regressors who want a mommy/daddy/cg are apart of cglre or liltot or some other various communities. But it doesn’t make them apart of cgl. And while, yes they do want a cg, that doesn’t necessarily make them 100% accepting to the cgl community because for a lot of people, they see the community as unsafe for minors/regressors because of its ties to ddlg (which is 100% an adult kink community)
