The girls after a day of travelling about 612 miles from #denver to #desmoines on their way to #manitowoc with their grandparents. They have fall break next week and are spending their first week in Wisconsin without mom or dad. Their day started at 4 AM so I knew they would be tired. Here they are tucked in and safe. When you're a woman with a traumatic childhood one of the hardest things you will ever do is trust your girls with someone. My dad and stepmom have been amazing and overwhelmingly patient with me even when I know I'm maybe being a little too much. And, just like that, you're 3. ⁣ ⁣ I am in awe of seeing you grow and learn. I love watching your imagination take over, making every single one of my shoes into cars for your dolls,  watching you hold grudges for a little while because the neighbor boy ate your imaginary soup. I love how you always know how to use your manners and carefully try to fix your grammar. I love how you introduce your toys to one another when someone new comes into the rotation. ⁣ ⁣ I won't lie to you, this phase of your life has been challenging. Toddler-hood is no joke. You're a little spitfire that likes to argue with me. Despite that, you bring a smile to my face regularly through the days, and I thank you for that. You show so much promise to the world and will inevitably dominate it. Parents Raising Men.

So these are the same parents who complain about why their daughters can’t find a man to marry yet forget that they along the rest of the parents are the reason why the girls can’t find a decent man to marry. If you put your son above your daughter, and you forgive every flaw and mistake of him, but you personally attack your daughter and call her characterless, and put her down, then what do you think will happen? 

All the men that these women will try to marry (if they’re raised in such a sexist household), they will think nothing of the women resulting in a resentful and/or divorced woman.

The girls at the center are passionate about so many things. Dancing, Acting, playing instruments, becoming a social worker or legal professional to help girls who will need them in the future, and so much more. There is one however who is passionate about becoming a chef. While the meals here in the Philippines are standard and consistent of a protein and rice; and even more so in shelter living, one of my girls has been working on catering to my plant based wishes. While eggs are allowed in my diet, I don’t partake in eating fish, pork, beef or chicken. Unless it’s 2am and I’ve had a few. (J/K) ... For a young girl whose wish is to become a chef one day, this is mightily impressive of her. Swipe to see my #breakfast #lunch and #dinner meals from yesterday. Not only is she using a variety of vegetables and fruit now in her meal prep, she is also working on presentation. I’m like a proud mama bear cheering her on in the inside as I sit to the table each time. The #CenterOfHope is more than a shelter for survivors of #domesticworkers and #sextrafficking it is the #foundation in which these women can hone in on their personal skills. This is a special place and I have to pinch myself sometimes. She says every day how badly she wants to become a professional chef. And I love her enthusiasm and effort behind this wish of hers. As I prepare to travel home to Thailand for a few days, I think I will pick up some spices to surprise her. And everyone will be able to benefit from it as well. Food brings families together. ♥️ And family is everything here in the Philippines. My little sister has a skill and I think we are near to the day where her name is highlighted on a menu. Until then, for safety and security reasons, her name remains protected. But maybe you as well, my friend, can send some prayers and wishes that this wish of ours comes true for her. One day. It is possible.
