The fifth brightest Galaxy in the sky. Its famous S-shape derives from a merger of the elliptical galaxy and the spiral galaxy that began 100 million years ago. Recently, Nasa's SOFIA (STRATOSPHERIC OBSERVATORY FOR INFRARED ASTRONOMY) was able to map magnetic fields. During the impact they were distorted, twisted and intensified as can be seen in the central region ... while outward they seem to follow the trails of the remnants of the Spiral Galaxy. The supermassive and active black hole ((about 100/ 200 million solar masses)) at the center of the Galaxy plays an active role in increasing the disorder. From the center of the galaxy are emitted two huge relativistic high-energy jets that extend for millions of light years with emissions in various wavelengths. Two huge arcs are visible in the X-rays at the periphery of the galaxy, probably remnants of a giant shock wave produced during the initial collision. Centaurus A is one of the most powerful radio sources known. Curiosity :: it is surrounded by unusual dwarf galaxies ... it has at least 31 ... and by countless globular clusters. In the photos we can see centaurus A in different wavelengths, with different telescopes and filters. Each wavelength tells us something different .... highlights something that characterizes it.
