I don’t know how people don’t get, at this point, that there is nothing anyone can do, ever to deserve genocide. Nothing.

If you think Palestinians - or even just everyone in Gaza - from the eldest senior down to the youngest child, deserves to die or otherwise be collectively punished for the acts of Hamas on Oct. 7th, you are part of the problem.

If you think Israelis - or more widely all Jewish people - from the eldest senior down to the youngest child, deserves to die or otherwise be collectively punished for what the modern state Israel has done to Palestinians, you are part of the problem.

Palestinians and Jewish people alike are indigenous to the Levant. So are the Samaritans and the Druze and the Bedouins and more. All of them deserves dignity, respect, and self determination in their homeland. If you (especially if you do not belong to one of the aforementioned groups) cannot do your best to work towards a decolonial future where this can be true, you are part of the problem.

There's no way forward for leftism or feminism if we let relatively small indiscretions or disagreements divide us into smaller and weaker factions. If we stop cooperating with one another, then we might as well give up, because we'll never convince the masses to stop attacking women or LGBTQ+ people when we spend more time bad mouthing and attacking one another than attacking the far right conservatives who are trying to bully us into hiding. Antifeminists and white supremacists will have their work cut out for them, because we'll be purity testing one another to death.

I'd consider myself a radfem, but being against trans rights is both a waste of time and is a net negative for society. People can disagree on the definition of gender without denying trans people's right to existence, safety and respect.

Black or female separatism will probably not address racism and misogyny, but it'll inspire distrust towards potential allies. I'm all pro 4B and decentering men and whiteness, but conservative white men and women are cooperating together to sabotage women and black people's advancement. When will progressives of all genders and races unite under the same resistance movement?

Right now it looks like there will never be allies who are pure and scrupulous enough. Cooperation doesn't have to mean abandoning one's values.

The thing is. Bad/gross food is rarely a DISH - when food is bad it's because it's been badly made, whether because of skills or available ingredients. but a dish p much only exists recognisably and has a name because someone likes at least one version of it.

which is to say. there isn't really a way of naming a dish, school of dishes or specific food culture and going EW ISN'T THIS DISH UNILATERALLY CONCEPTUALLY DISGUSTING without denigrating quite a lot of people.

like you don't have to like it in any form. but it's eaten and shared because it's good to a not insubstantial number of people when cooked right.

(and I don't really understand how you approach that with total incuriosity when it's a dish you haven't tried like. ARE rocky mountain oysters good? Maybe! I would very much eat some to find out!!!!)

this is actually something the British food poll did in a way the American ones I've seen haven't really - they described how the food they're imagining is, specifically, badly prepared (grey meat and veggies; unseasoned shepherd's pie). which is wildly tipping the scales by calling it British Food but. like. that is an on point definition of why that food is gross.

(this also applies to American chocolate, which like. Broad category but I think most of us understand this refers to low-cocoa high-sugar chocolate, probably with bucolic acid. so we are being invited to imagine Badly Made Chocolate not. the concept of chocolate)

personally I just think it's very rarely a good or funny idea to shittalk how gross any given food culture is. partly because food is important and culturally evocative for most people, partly because it's very...alienating? to be like WHO COULD EAT SUCH A THING? just because you wouldn't, and largely because to be frank it says more about you than about the food that you have so little imagination or curiosity that you can't imagine why a food might be enjoyable to folks who aren't you.

yes this includes jello salad, I would like to try it. ONCE. if it wasn't appealing to someone it wouldn't be so widespread.

i had a pretty busy day at work. coming back to tumblr to see that people are trying to talk around being racist again is something i don't have the energy for. being white passing doesn't make you white or erase your heritage and racial/ethnic background. europe and especially eastern europe has a very different experience with racism than the states.

it's okay to not be educated about something, it's not okay to stay that way and try to "correct" people who actually know what they're talking about.
