Understanding Raccoons Trapping: Methods for Homeowners
Tumblr media
Raccoons are intelligent, resourceful creatures that often become unwelcome visitors in residential areas. They can cause significant damage to homes, gardens, and trash storage areas while posing health risks due to the diseases they may carry. If raccoons have invaded your property, understanding effective raccoons trapping methods can help you address the issue safely and humanely.
Why Raccoons Are a Problem for Homeowners
1. Property Damage
Raccoons are notorious for:
Tearing through garbage bags and dumpsters.
Damaging roofs, vents, or siding to access attics.
Digging up lawns and gardens in search of food.
2. Health Concerns
These animals can carry diseases such as rabies and leptospirosis. Additionally, their feces may contain harmful parasites like roundworms, which pose a risk to humans and pets.
3. Noise and Disturbance
Raccoons often make noise at night, disrupting your sleep if they’ve taken residence in your attic or crawl space.
Legal Considerations Before Trapping Raccoons
Before setting traps, it’s essential to know the laws in your area. Many regions have specific regulations to protect wildlife, even nuisance animals like raccoons. Trapping and relocating animals without proper permits may result in fines or legal issues.
Contact local wildlife authorities or a licensed pest control service to ensure compliance with the law.
Effective Raccoon Trapping Methods
1. Using Live Traps
Live traps are the most common and humane method for capturing raccoons. Here’s how to use them effectively:
Choose the Right Trap: A sturdy metal trap, at least 32 inches long, with a trigger plate, works best.
Bait the Trap: Use bait like marshmallows, canned tuna, or peanut butter to attract the raccoon.
Place Strategically: Set the trap in areas where raccoons are most active, such as near trash bins, gardens, or entry points.
Monitor Regularly: Check the trap frequently to avoid prolonged confinement, which can stress the animal.
2. Exclusion Traps
Exclusion traps work by allowing raccoons to exit but not re-enter a space, such as an attic or crawl space. These are ideal for removing raccoons without the need to transport them.
3. Professional Assistance
Hiring a wildlife control expert ensures the process is safe, legal, and effective. Professionals have the expertise to identify raccoon behavior, use advanced trapping techniques, and prevent future infestations.
Safety Tips for Homeowners
1. Wear Protective Gear
When handling traps or cleaning areas frequented by raccoons, wear gloves and a mask to protect yourself from potential diseases.
2. Avoid Direct Contact
Never attempt to handle a raccoon directly, even if it appears calm. Wild animals may bite or scratch when stressed.
3. Clean and Disinfect
After removing a raccoon, clean the area thoroughly to eliminate odors and pathogens that might attract other animals.
Preventing Future Raccoon Problems
Once you’ve addressed the immediate issue, take steps to prevent raccoons from returning:
Secure Garbage: Use heavy-duty, raccoon-proof trash bins with locking lids.
Seal Entry Points: Inspect your home for gaps, holes, or weak spots in the roof, walls, or vents, and repair them promptly.
Eliminate Food Sources: Avoid leaving pet food or birdseed outside overnight.
Trim Trees: Cut back tree branches near your home to reduce access to the roof.
When to Call a Professional
If trapping raccoons feels overwhelming or unsafe, it’s time to call a professional wildlife control service. Experts not only handle trapping but also offer solutions to prevent future infestations, giving you peace of mind.
Conclusion
Dealing with raccoons on your property can be challenging, but with the right pest control methods, you can protect your home and family. Remember to prioritize humane and legal approaches, and don’t hesitate to seek professional help if needed. By taking preventative measures, you can keep raccoons at bay and maintain a safe, peaceful living environment.

The bear loved the deer, it was obvious. It ripped the deer's throat out, and then licked the dying deer with the most passionate affection. I thought of you and me.
Saw this quote from David Cronenberg's Consumed and just went. Haha, I'm so normal about Durgetash and Prayer for Forgiveness btw :)))

pretty pls elaborate on the crab eating subspecies of raccoon
first a small correction it's actually a different species, raccoon is the genus (Procyon) - the default raccoon (Procyon lotor) actually has something like 22 subspecies that are mostly just some slight size, proportion, and coat pattern variances in localized populations across north and central America
the crab-eating raccoon (Procyon cancrivorus) is found primarily in south and central America and is sleeker, usually darker, with sharper claws and and a more rat-like face - they eat just about anything, like other raccoons, and other raccoons species eat crabs, but these guys do have a particularly shellfish heavy diet
here's a couple pics that hopefully are the right raccoons (all the Procyonidae family critters get mislabled and swap names and shit all the time so it's hard to figure out which images are of which lol)

something i think is weird is how people/characters are shown responding to trauma/triggers/shutdowns etc because it's always "oh they do This One Thing and that's how you can tell"
like- maybe someone always gets angry and lashes out. another will always go quiet and look down. but that's just their ONE tell, and it doesn't make sense???? maybe it's just me but idk i have like a handful of options at all times
like if i'm in a situation where it's too risky to fall away from the conversation or just drift??? i'm gonna pull out the humor mask and bs my way outta there. if it's not safe to use the anger card then i'm gonna shut up and not draw attention. yeah having a go-to response is all well and good but if that one won't work you gotta have a backup plan

🎮🎊 Roadside Attraction: Dinner & Show has many games in our expensive arcade so please stay and spend all your tokens! 🎊🎮
The Roadside Attraction: Dinner and Show for a long time was only The Roadside Attraction & Restaurant. The owner made the building as a tourist trap that was located in the middle of a major highway. Made out of three main buildings it is the arcade, dining room, and the shopping center. They make a very long and impressive building. The outside is decorated with old fair, circus, and mini golf props (none of which go together very well). It makes for great photo opportunities.

the coot (type of bird) that I rescued on thanksgiving had to be put down :[
They didn’t tell me what happened so idk if it was sickness or injury. The place I took it to only releases animals, they can’t keep them if they’re not able to survive in the wild. Idk if it was due to being not fit to be released or if it just wasn’t going to make it either way.
