Differences in localization and the original pt. 1

I am starting a series of posts with the goal of familiarizing players with some of the differences that localization creates for us in contrast to the original.

Some moments are radically different, misleading and causing controversy, while some do not change the essence of what is happening, but are still noticeably different

Disclaimer: these posts will be written solely for the purpose of familiarization; I do not force anyone to play the game in Japanese, because you are free to choose the version of the game that is comfortable for you. I just noticed some moments and want to share them with you.

The localization of Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) is essentially good, but there are some moments, IMHO, that I personally would not adapt or change in any way

One of the most serious changes, which, in my opinion, should not have been touched at all, is Mitsurugi's (Edgeworth) phobias.

As if case 1-4 never happened.

In the Japanese version, when examining the files in Mitsurugi's office, Naruhodō will be perplexed about the need for such high shelves - they could collapse during an earthquake.

Okashī na. Aitsu, jishin ga nigatena hazudakara……

...That's strange. He's supposed to be bad with earthquakes...

In the localization (for some reason) at this point Mitsurugi was given a fear of heights. For what reason... I don't understand

Next, another big difference is Naruhodo's food preferences

In the Japanese version, Tomi the clown offers him miso ramen (which is cooked in chicken broth and miso), which Naruhodo refuses and says that he prefers tonkotsu ramen (cooked in pork broth and boiled pork is added to it).

In the Japanese version, reading the menu of the vending machine, Naruhodo annoyedly comments that "there is not even oolong tea". He literally names the tea he likes!

In the localization, he is disappointed that the food in the vending machine is too... ordinary, and he was expecting something that is not usually sold there (popcorn).

Naruhodō University

Case 3-1 is very rich in information about the young Naruhodō, including the name of the university he attended

In the Japanese version, it is Yumei University (the same university where his ancestor Ryunosuke Naruhodō studied during the Meiji era - then it was called Yumei Imperial University), which creates an important reference to Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney)

When Yusaku (Ron) tells the story of the allegedly lost vase, Naruhodō makes a comment about the absurdity of his story

(... I guess the story is a bit vague...)

The localization decided to make a reference to Naruhodō's education in the field of art, and he compares Mask's story to the surreal paintings of Dali.

A nice addition, but still different from the original version.

A vida gira em torno de Aihara Kotoko, uma jovem estudante que está terminando os estudos e encontra-se suprindo seu grande amor por um garoto popular do ensino medio. Como estava no fim da sua vida escolar, a menina criou coragem e colocou todos os sentimentos guardados a respeito do rapaz amado em uma bela carta de amor, visando entregar a ele na manhã seguinte. Assim, chegando à escola, a menina encontrou o garoto na entrada e, quando o chamou a atenção para entrega-lhe seu amor delatado em um papel, o rapaz, rispidamente, recusou antes mesmo de dá-la a oportunidade de pronunciar por completo sua frase. De primeiro momento, ela fica desolada pela refeição.

Após o término das aulas do dia, Aihara se dirigiu a sua nova residência, a qual foi comprada com as economias do pai dela, que é o único parente extremamente próximo e delatado na obra, pois a mãe havia morrido anos atrás em seu parto. Contudo, apesar do suado dinheiro gastado na casa, ela não possuía uma estrutura firme, prova disso é o fato ocorrido quando a garota, juntamente de seu pai e amigos, estava comendo e rindo na sala de jantar, a alegria terminou no momento em que um terremoto acabou por derrubar a residência, porém, ninguém se feriu. Após o alvoroço, eles descobrem que o fenômeno natural foi extremamente fraco, provando o quão mal-feita a estrutura era.

Sem saber para onde ir, a menina e o pai vão ao negócio da família, isto é, um restaurante especializado na área do preparo de deliciosos rāmen, arrumando algum canto para dormirem até eles encontrarem outro ambiente e, de preferência, mais aconchegante. Eventualmente, Kotoko começou a trabalhar para ajudar a juntar todo dinheiro suado que o pai batalhou para conseguir, o governo japonês se sensibilizou com a história e acabou dando um casa para eles. Assim Kotoko conseguiu focar em seus estudos e finalizar o ensino médio, iniciando a faculdade de Medicina onde conheceu seu ex-namorado, com quem teve um relacionamento abusivo, onde ele ameaçou, abusou fisicamente e psicologicamente dela, o pai com medo desses abusos retornarem a acontecer, decidiu mandar a filha para trabalhar na Coreia em Mungunghwa como pediatra no hospital.

You would nod your head repeatedly at his question,he couldn't help but laugh a little at your cuteness. "Kashi, wanna go get get something to eat?" You smiled up at him, kakashi just nods and takes you to Rāmen Ichiraku. You both ordered separate bowls, you happily slurped on your ramen with a closed eyed smile, you soon felt his hand against your lower back. Gently caressing it, you stop eating and looked up at him. He Had his fist resting against his cheek as his eyes were closed in a happy expression. "Silly, you still have noodles hanging out your mouth cutie." He tried not to laugh at your embarrassed expression. You looked away as you ate the last bit of ramen that was hanging out of your mouth.

"You could be slurping on something else" he whispered into your ear. You tensed up and blink. You look back at him, "oh? Like a lollipop? Are you taking me to the candy shop?" Your eyes beamed but kakashi was dumbfounded with wide eyes. Did he hear you correctly? Or did you not hear him correctly? "Y/N... Are you a virgin?" He,raised a brow. You tilted your head to the side. "huh? Yeah...why do you ask?" Now you were worried. You heard how guys didn't like Virgins, was he gonna break your heart?

"Heh I see, then carry on eating. " He said with a smile under his mask. You sighed in relief and pressed your body against him as you ate. "You still coming over to my house right kashi?" You said all giddy. "Yes I am dear, I definitely will." He said innocently. But he most definitely had other plans for you.
