Isiah: Do you have a principal that guides your life?
Trevor: Yes, always expect the worst in others. You'll rarely be disappointed.
Isiah: Do you think you could be a little more positive.
Trevor: Yes. Always expect the best in others.
Isiah: There you go-
Trevor: And watch as your hope is crushed like saltines in a man's bed. And the man is angry. And the man has a sledgehammer. And the man is yelling "DIE SALTINES DIE!"
Isiah: Never mind.

The Prayer Jesus Taught: “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”
On March 5, 2023, Rev. Dr. Tim Hart-Andersen, the Senior Pastor at Minneapolis’ Westminster Presbyterian Church, delivered the second of his five sermons on different passages of the Lord’s Prayer.[1] This sermon was on the second sentence (in bold) of that Prayer: “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this…

I was having trouble thinking of what to say about this chapter besides the Tiger Poem. It does really sum up the entirety of my Valancy feelings, to the point where I almost posted it yesterday before checking to see what chapter we were on. I first read this book less than a week ago and chapter 13 had fully escaped my memory already. Sorry Stirlings, you’re less cool than Roaring Abel Gay.
Anyway, it belated occurred to me that this entire sequence of events must be very nearly as wild for Abel as it is for the extended Stirling clan. Two weeks ago Valancy waved at him, an occasion so momentous and unexpected he very nearly fell out of his buggy, and now she is not only sitting down and chatting with him (surely a first) but she offers to go be his housekeeper. In a single afternoon, after one conversation. He seems more sanguine about things than the Stirlings (not hard to achieve) but his mind must be whirling.
Or perhaps not. We know he believes in predestination (is that a standard Presbyterian thing? My generic white protestant only in as much as we weren’t anything else family did not prepare me for the nuances of this discussion.) It is very possible that Valancy said, “Will I do?” and Abel went, “Huh. Guess that’s why I’ve been working for these women all these years. Fair enough.” And certainly the weather continuing to be unseasonally cold is adding weight to Abel’s worldview. Why did it rain on Valancy’s birthday and continue to be cold enough into June that her mother was forced to close the window? Because it simply couldn’t have been any other way. Who is God but the omniscient narrator of what has already been written?
I had to look up Isiah 55, and I’ve copied the whole verse under the cut, for the curious. (The internet informs me it’s a King James translation, but I welcome corrections if the internet has lied.) I was trying to figure out what bits Abel was quoting at the minister during his wife’s funeral. I think it would be funniest if it was this bit: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts/Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord./“For  as the heavens are higher than the earth,/So are My ways higher than your ways,/And My thoughts than your thoughts.” Or, in other words, “You don’t talk for God and stop trying.”
I think Valancy is not being entirely fair to Abel when she says he could never understand why she didn’t go see Cissy before. He knows her mother and the rest of her family. I’m sure he can put the pieces together that even if she had wanted to go she would never have been allowed to. He’s just being snappy at her because she was judging him two sentences ago.
“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.
Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what  is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— The sure mercies of David.
Indeed I have given him as  a witness to the people, A leader and commander for the people.
Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, And nations who do not know you shall run to you, Because of the Lord your God, And the Holy One of Israel; For He has glorified you.”
Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
“For  as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater,
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in  the  thing for which I sent it.
“For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; And it shall be to the Lord  for a name, For an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”

so so so.. ive got two chapters left of one last stop. ive been crying and laughing (and having to put the book down when i get too giddy about it (or blush) and i have absolutely no idea whats going to happen with jane and august and its so scary and exciting. their story and invisible string tethered between them has been an incredibly interesting thing to get to delve into. and wes and niko and myla and isiah and her little circle of hope she’s gotten.. i both cannot wait to finish this book and don’t want it to end. i need to get a copy of this myself (i borrowed from the library) so i can highlight all of the wonderful quotes in it and reread it a gajillion times more.

Someone was asking for inspirational Bible quotes. via /r/atheism
Someone was asking for inspirational Bible quotes.
I'm a member of a laser engraving community on Facebook, and someone there was looking for inspirational scriptures to engrave onto tiles, and presumably sell. There were the usual kind of answers, so to balance things out, I threw in Psalm 139:7 and Isiah 13:16, both about murdering children. Someone else posted Zeke 23:20, the donkey dick horse semen line.
No response from OP yet though…

Why does Mathew constantly try to prove that Jesus is the Messiah through past scripture and examples of Jesus' miracles.
the gospel of Matthew is the gospel that most uses past scripture to try and prove that Jesus is the Messiah. It is known that that the reason behind this is that the gospel of Matthew prioritizes the conversion of people of the Jewish faith to Christians. I think that in this instance it would be relevant to include past scripture and Jesus' miracles, but in my opinion, Matthew includes way too much. He even goes as far as to create stories that couldn't have happened. For example, in Mathew 2:13 the bible states "And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt.....". In response to this King Herod killed all the children in Bethlehem. As we discussed in class this couldn't have been true. This is a miracle that Mathew pulls out of nowhere. How did Matthew not know that present-day people would see through the stories that he made up, and why did he go overboard with including scripture from the old testament? Rhetorically speaking, if someone giving their argument was exaggerating details so much that they include start to include outrageous facts that cannot be supported with any evidence they would be inhibiting their argument in a debate. Mathew is doing just that when describing the miracle of Jesus fleeing to Egypt. This is an instance of Mathew going to far when including these miracles. Also, as discussed in my entry for the book of Isaiah is quoted very often in these books. In the first five chapters of Mathew, Isiah is quoted 5 times. (Mathew 1:23, Mathew 3:3, Mathew 4: 15) quoting scripture to this degree is too much because it detracts from the message of Jesus' teachings and the actual story of the gospels.

Arthur and John trying to teach Finn and Y/N how to drive:
Arthur: Ok so lets pretend you're driving down the road and suddenly Bonnie and Isaiah are in the middle of it what do you hit?
Finn: The bre…*Y/N interrupts without looking up*
Y/N: The gas, otherewise you may not get enough speed to get them both.
John: WHAT!?
Y/N: Theoretically you could get them both in one swipe, no need to choose who you hit first. I mean depending in how far apart they are if you just crank the wheel at the right moment you could just swing the car around and get them both without having to turn around and give the other a chance to run.
Arthur: Why do you want to hit them though? What did they do to you?
Y/N: Oh nothing, I just figured if their in the road and I’m driving the car they did something really bad to me that’s why you put them in the road …. I think…. Do you know if they did anything to me that I should hear?
John: NO! They did nothing! And when you’re on the car and someone is in the road you hit the breaks!
Y/N: But if I hit the breaks how will I get enough speed to swipe them both at once!
*Bonnie and Isaiah slowly inch back out the room now slightly fearful*
