GROSS!!! THE BEACH IS SO GROSS!!!!!!
I'm at a beach near my apartment. I've been doing some work to clean it up recently. Partly for training, but partly because- y'know. It's a good thing to do. BUT IT'S GROSS!! It's covered in trash!!!!! I'm sure half of this stuff works fine anyway. I'm not really in desperate need of money, but I live modestly enough that i know "Come on, this is just a refrigerator. I bet it still works." Maybe I can sell it online or something. (Probably not, it's gross.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I drew a little guy on my phone to show my disappointment. People should pick up their trash more.

I was just thinking- you know Kirishima Eijirou’s iconic lil bump your fists together move? Maybe it’s similar to Momo making those dolls- it’s another form of training. His is twofold though. He both can check his own strength and the strength of his quirk. It must take a lot of control for a small, barely noticeable shift like that. And his strength can make it so that his quirk needs to be even stronger. I think he’d rationalize it like “if I can break through my quirk, then a villain DEFINITELY could” and so he just kept like, checking himself? Just so he knows his own limits in a way.

Bello Licentiae Chapter 7: Try Their Hardest to Make People Happy
Summary:
tw: switching (DID), falling from high up, torture mention, blackmail mention 'text' JSL Text thoughts
Akira rested their head against the counter as they waited for their meds to kick in, the blender grating against their pounding headache. A torturous minute later, they poured their smoothie and wheeled back to the closest table. Little more to the left— no, not that far. Back, right, scoot. Akira reangled themself a few times, bumping into the cabinets as they got used to how much space their wheelchair took up and how to make smaller adjustments on the fly. They could use the touchpad, but... they'd eventually need to operate it without electronics one way or another.
They pulled up the video Dabi had sent them late the previous night of Twice walking through how he currently used his quirk and how he learned to do it. I should have half an hour before Katsuki comes down .
Akira raised an eyebrow at Twice casually leaning, posing in a rumpled light blue suit and his costume mask. "Your first step is to know yourself!" he started with a flourish.
"That's important for anyone, but especially with Stranger quirks. I don't remember much from when I was a singlet, but I'm pretty sure making clones made shadows back then."
A what? Akira had never heard the term before but dismissed it as the video continued.
From behind the camera, Dabi drawled, "They know about their quirk shadows, Double Trouble."
"Right! But what most people don't pay attention to is how their shadow feels. When you activate your quirk, you should feel a tug from one or more body parts. Pay special attention to that, and once you have a clone..." Twice gestured to a clone of Dabi as it finished. "reach into that shadow and tug that part. For me, it's the big vein in my wrists!" he flourished his wrists to the camera and poked one of the veins.
"You probably have one focal point for your quirk, so focus on that. My clones get less durable the further down the hierarchy they are, so whatever limits your first-gen clones have, their clones may experience that exponentially," Twice continued. "The focal point for a quirk varies from person to person. Like Dabi's comes from his skin!"
Akira's curiosity piqued as he rambled about the differences between quirk activations he felt in the clones of other people. He went on for several minutes, even complaining about Kurogiri never letting them get measurements before Dabi finally interjected. "As interested as they'll be in all that, was there anything else you wanted to cover?"
"Right!" Twice straightened his coat and added in a more serious tone, "Remember not to clone yourself too much too fast. It can be very draining, and we don't want a repeat of our first squad mission. If you get sensory input from them, that can also get overwhelming if you have too many active before you're ready. It's real easy for us Strangers to lose ourselves." With a thumbs up from him, the video ended.
What was that about? Akira mused. After a moment, they shrugged off his odd behavior. Every member of the League had their own quirks and coping mechanisms. Easily distracted with a flair hardly stood out.
A few minutes later, the elevator chimed, and Akira waved as they finished their smoothie. Katsuki paused with a frown before heading to the kitchen while Kirishima rushed over. "Mori, are you okay? I haven't seen-"
' I'm fine, ' Akira interrupted with an eye roll. ' Bad pain day. Stress doesn't help, and it's going to rain later. '
Kirishima frowned, knitting his brow. "Shouldn't you tell Aizawa-sensei? I'm sure he'd let you off training if you need the day."
Akira shook their head, ' Need to get used to the wheelchair – uh, this – anyways. Nothing fancy yet, just the basics right now. '
"Isn't Ingenium getting something fancy?" Katsuki called from the kitchen.
Akira nodded excitedly and pulled up the article on their phone. ' They made the announcement over the weekend. Ingenium's using a wheelchair most of the time right now, but he's looking to start patrolling once he completes physical therapy with a... ' Akira thought for a moment before fingerspelling 'neuroprosthetic exoskeleton. '
"Wait, you don't know something in JSL?" Kirishima asked with a light smile.
Akira chuckled and lightly shoved his arm, ' Medical terms are different, Red Hot. ' They briefly froze, but Kirishima moved on, easily chatting about the ultimate move he was working on called Red Riot Unbreakable. It didn't take long for Katsuki to shove a water bottle in his hand and practically drag his boyfriend out the door.
As they waited for the rest of Mad Banquet, Akira mused that Ingenium probably wouldn't be active as much or as soon as most seemed to think. Even if the exoskeleton was something he wanted and not something the commission was pushing on him, it wouldn't be a miracle cure.
"Are you sure you'll be alright practicing your quirk?" Ectoplasm asked as Akira locked their wheels.
' Of course, ' they snapped, having heard that question over a dozen times that morning. ' Being in a wheelchair means I can devote more energy to training instead of staying upright today. '
Cementoss raised the pillar at their nod, and Akira transferred onto the sitting ledge before warping back into their wheelchair. They spent the first couple hours trying to use their heart as a focal point but only succeeded in stuttering the clones' heartbeats with stronger tugs. Potentially useful in some situations, but not what they were intending.
Finally, they reset another clone and tugged its collarbone. Just as they realized they went with the same intensity they ended the previous test at, a new, slightly smaller shadow appeared as the clone dispelled. Akira startled and wheeled forward a bit to look over the edge.
"Mori!" Aizawa called out as his capture weapon closed around a falling clone, dispelling it.
Akira blinked down at their teacher a moment then broke out in a grin. They turned their wheelchair around a little awkwardly to face Ectoplasm's clone so the original could interpret. ' Sorry! I used a little too much force, but it worked! If you see me falling off the pillar, it's a clone. '
With a temporary upper bound, Akira started testing the distances associated with weaker tugs. Occasionally a clone or two warped off the pillar, the teachers jolting forward slightly. After the first few times, Akira started using a clone to sign ' distance test ' to Ectoplasm's clone before pulling harder. After a couple hours, they took a break to make notes on their improvements and theories on new applications.
CRAAACK ! A low rumble rippled through the air, pulling Akira from their musings.
"Hey, look out!"
Akira sharply twisted in their wheelchair at Katsuki's shout and rapidly warped their clones around All Might. They rushed him, pulling him out of the way as Midoriya lept into the path of the chunk of concrete. He shattered the rubble with a sweep of his leg. Akira still had their clones help maneuver All Might as Aizawa's capture weapon pulled him further away from the now much smaller pieces of falling concrete. A small smile flitted across their face at his breakthrough.
Akira startled as they looked back to the first clone, which was now deteriorating like when they hadn't eaten. Wait... Akira slipped on their crutches and warped to ground level, curiously examining their clones as they noticed they were deteriorating at rates based on hierarchy like Twice had mentioned.
"Mori, are you alright?" Aizawa asked.
Fac , Akira sharply thought to activate their coms. A smooth baritone voice with a slight gravel to the tone came through the speaker on their costume. "Yes, clones draw higher lee, so I'll monitor." After a moment, they corrected more slowly, "hierarchically."
"Good, just don't lose track and let us know if you need to break for lunch early," Aizawa said.
With a nod, Akira sharply thought, Siste . Still getting the hang of giving the commands without directing the software to dictate them, Akira did a double take before warping as they noticed the confused but bemused expression on Cementoss' face. They locked their wheels and had their clone sign to lower the pillar.
Over the next few minutes, Akira confirmed the different rates of deterioration and jotted down a few theories and calculations to test. They also noted that they were only experiencing the burn rate for the one primary clone active and didn't seem to be affected by that clone having multiple clones of itself. The shadows in their mind decreased a couple inches in height the further down the hierarchical chain they were, so Akira also made a note to test motor function and visual abnormalities between the levels. Similar to when they went invisible, Akira noticed they could still see invisible clones, although they were somewhat distorted.
Once the last clone disappeared a few minutes before the usual 10-minute limit, Akira jotted down confirmation of the deterioration rates and signed for the pillar to be re-established. They spent the last hour of training before lunch establishing baselines for the first three levels of clones and exploring the slightly shifted control thread for the clones of clones.
"I like your generated voice," Hitoshi said as Mad Banquet settled into lunch. "I don't think I've heard you use it before."
Akira nodded as their mouth thinned into a firm line, ' I've only had it for a couple days, so I have a good month or so between taking lessons and training in my free time before it's fully calibrated. '
"I'm sure you'll get it eventually," Koji softly encouraged. He gave a shrike a few crumbs, and at a series of chirps, his eyes widened. "Uh, I think Aoyama wants to talk with you?"
Akira startled and looked around a moment before catching Aoyama's eyes. They distractedly signed, ' Not that, frustrated at the need for it at all. ' At his pointed glance towards Aizawa, Akira nodded and signed, ' He asked for my help broaching a topic with sensei. This might take a while. '
Akira carefully made their way around groups of students to where Aoyama was fidgeting with his cape against the wall. Aizawa stood up a little straighter as he had been subtly tracking them with his eyes. They signed to Aoyama, ' Do you want to talk with him now or later? '
Aoyama's sparkles briefly faded before flickering back around his head. His smile became more strained as he quietly said, "I'll lose the nerve if we wait."
Akira nodded and signed to keep talking for a few minutes as they waited for the students and other teachers to lose interest in their discussion. Aizawa seemed to take the cue and slowly drifted away from the teachers. Apart from his eyes, Aoyama settled into his familiar role of vibrant star. To the others, Akira imagined he looked to be bragging about his increased laser distance and strength, but from up close they could see his smile become more strained and his fingers fidget whenever they weren't moving.
Akira gave Aizawa a small nod as he leaned beside the entrance. Just in case anyone was watching, Akira signed, ' I think sensei wants to speak with us. ' They wheeled to the door, closely flanked by Aoyama as a few students turned their way, but upon seeing who they were heading towards, all but Shoto went back to their conversations. He fortunately didn't say anything but looked intrigued.
"Where would you be most comfortable talking?" Aizawa drawled once they were out of earshot of the gym. At Aoyama's hesitance, he added, "my office, the classroom, your room, a conference room..."
"Your office," Aoyama blurted as his sparkles quickly faded now that the group was away from their class.
As they settled into Aizawa's office, the teacher said, "Since you're coming to me with Mori, I take it you're not willingly working with the League. I understand if you're uncomfortable sharing all the details, but I do need a few questions answered before we determine next steps."
Aoyama nodded hesitantly, eyes drifting to the side as Aizawa raised an eyebrow. "Oui, I understand."
"Are you and your family safe?"
Aoyama looked up in surprise and shook his head. "They know where we live."
Aizawa nodded and made a note in the shorthand Akira was all too familiar with from watching him fill out reports in the evenings and early mornings. "How long have you been working for the League?"
Aoyama frowned slightly, brows drawing together. "I'm afraid that's more complicated. I..." his breath picked up as he stared past the wall for a few moments before taking a sharp breath. His fingers dug into the arms of the chair in a death grip as he haltingly continued, "All for One gave me a quirk when I was seven and told me of his plan for me to get into U.A. when I was twelve. I wasn't aware of the League's existence and didn't have contact with them until I received the acceptance letter."
"How did you find All for One?" Aizawa asked, carefully keeping the tension in his grip and eyes out of his voice.
"There was a rumor among Quirkless that there was a man who could give you a quirk," Aoyama said as he began drifting again. He winced before whispering, "I couldn't take it anymore. It was that or..."
Akira nodded in understanding as Aizawa's expression flickered with sadness and a hint of anger. They gently placed a hand on his wrist and started rubbing circles with their thumb. Aoyama flinched but started to refocus as he relaxed marginally under the touch.
A few hours later, Aizawa had a plan in place to keep Aoyama and his parents safe while Akira managed the fallout in the League. Akira smoothly reassured the kid that they were completely fine with the arrangement and had been expecting his withdrawal since they learned of his involvement.
With only a half hour left of training, Akira signed, 'Sparkles, you go ahead. I need to talk with sensei for a moment.' After he hesitantly left, they turned their phone so Aizawa could see the message from Dabi. 'Knife Dancer plans to impersonate someone at the Provisional License Exam. She can't mimic quirks, so it'll be someone whose quirk isn't flashy or physical.'
Notes:
I recognize Twice's clones have full autonomy, but he must get some sensory input from them based on the communication and awareness he has of when a clone goes down, so... huh, minor Thinker effect I guess. I'm still classifying him as Stranger/Master (third classifications in this fic are reserved for Nomu), so we'll say the sensory input is just part of Master control. Reminder: not everyone with a disability wants a cure. The exoskeleton is something currently in the works for people who've had a stroke, but it's a tool just like other mobility aids. I plan to touch on this a little more in Libertias aut Mortis, but it's a little difficult for a background character They're using Raine Whispers' voice from The Owl House I've had a lot of fun figuring out where gaps naturally occur when thinking even with purpose. I basically ran through the lines of dialogue my head while paying loose attention to where syllables dropped or sounded like something else Me: why won't google tell me which form of actus is a verb?? Latin-is-simple: 5 of its 12 forms are just actus Me: ...oh that's why *several minutes later* Me: Godamnit it's just a noun. Latin nerd friend: I thought 12 was weirdly small for a verb Me: *facedesk*

Texts With Katsuki but You're An Exchange Student: Part 1

The walk to the training facility was quite peaceful. In the short time you'd known him, you'd noticed Midoriya was a talker. He was asking questions about your quirk, how you learned to use it given the circumstances of your childhood, millions of things.
Usually you'd feel inclined to tell someone to fuck all the way off upon being asked any of these questions. But the space between you and your new friend felt comfortable, which was something you couldn't say you'd experienced in a long time. If anything the tension in your life had been palpable the past few months, even if it was only between you and yourself.
When the two of you finally arrived at the training facility you were happy to find it empty with the exception of All Might. He was perched on the opposite side of the room, on what looked to be a spectators bench. He raised a hand high and waved both of you over.
"Young Midoriya, Young (y/n), lock the door behind you and come on over so I can explain today's exercise." He nodded in the direction of the door and Midoriya turned to lock it. You made for the side of the room All Might was sitting on with Midoriya a few steps behind.
While All Might explained what you'd be doing you took off your overcoat. You hadn't wanted it to be ridiculously obvious where you were going, especially not after blowing off your practical partner. So you'd opted to throw the biggest flannel known to man over your training suit.
The mock up of your current gear held up well enough for it to be a training suit, one comparable to the one you've used in combat. Though the gear itself was a little... ratty. It hadn't been updated in quite some time and would without a doubt benefit from some TLC. You made a mental note to visit the support department before All Might spoke.
"Alright, go ahead and show us what you can do kiddo." He nodded as he motioned for Midoriya to sit next to him.
You tilted your head in confusion.
"Huh? I thought we were supposed to-"
"Nope. If your enemy is to have a fair fight they need to understand the range of your abilities, and yours is quite wide. Regardless of strength, It would be both unfair and reckless to send Midoriya in blind, even in a sparring match."
"Fair point, but then what do you want me to do?"
"Simple, use your quirk in the best way you know how. Show off a little if that's what you want to do," All Might waved his hand flippantly, "I just want to see what you're capable of and where your limits are, so that you can surpass them. The last time I saw you use your quirk was years ago. I would imagine you've improved since then?" He quirked a brow. Midoriya sat beside him with a notebook in his lap, looking between the two of you.
"I have." You nodded curtly, beginning to understand what was being asked of you.
"Then the floor is yours Young (y/n)." All Might gestured to the expansive training room behind you. You turned towards the open space, calmly walked to the center of the room, and thought through your plan. If improvement was what was being asked of you, why not show just how many of your limits you've surpassed?
Overhead you counted six rows of ten high-powered lights, making for sixty total. With those, plus the air conditioning, plus the rest of the technology in here, you figured you should be set. Electrical energy seemed to be the safest route while still being impressive.
Taking a deep inhale you tightened your core, the very inside of your soul to be as hard as rock. "Siphon." You breathed out on the exhale, you made an effort to feel every molecule of electricity within your reach. The current expanse of your quirk was the training room. If necessary, you could triple your reach, but you didn't want to take power from any of the dorm buildings.
Push your energy out, grab more of it, pull, compress.
Push your energy out, grab more of it, pull, compress.
Push your energy out, grab more of it, pull, compress.
You could feel your insides burning, but not in a way that hurt. They burned in the way that let you know you were sucking up every volt of energy available to you. In such a way that you could feel the energy building on itself and multiplying.
You didn't notice the way the lights went out, or the way the AC stopped working, or the electrical lock on the door come undone. You only knew you'd taken all you could when the breaker popped, then exploded with a resounding clap.
The way that you looked during was unbeknownst to you. But if you had to guess by the, "Oh my, oh my, what?" that Midoriya breathed out with wide eyes, you'd say terrifying.
If the way that All Might was looking at you like a proud father was any indication, you'd say you did your job.
Smiling softly you looked down at your, now glowing, skin. Electricity danced across it softly until you allowed it to dissipate. Simply deactivating it and storing it as potential energy.
"When I told you to show me what you got, I didn't mean to cut the power out. Jeez kid, what have they been feeding you over there?" All Might joked with a smile, one you returned to him proudly.

She's looking really good at a year old! I really like her shoulder assembly and rear angulation. Her tailset is her weakest quality imo but this tailset comes from her sire's lines. All in all super happy with how she's maturing!

In an effort to be less sad I'd like to ask dogblr a silly question.
If you have a dog that tattles on themselves - What is the funniest thing your dog tells on themself for?
I'll go first, both dogs are trained to leave the cat's litter box alone. However, every once in a while, the temptation is apparently too much for Forte. So he'll come to me and make sad noises until I follow him to the tray and clean it. (Yes he does get rewarded for this.)

Do you think anyone can be a hero?
It depends on if you believe in yourself.
Gosh, that sounds so cheesy. It's embarrassing to type out, but it's kind of true in a way.
But it's not about trying hard, or being naturally gifted. You need to tell yourself you're doing your best. You can work yourself to death and accomplish nothing if you don't think you're doing your best. If you've got a good quirk, you can do it!! If you have a bad quirk, stop thinking like that!! I used to have a really, really bad quirk. I got bullied for it pretty often. I don't wanna say what it was, but I've grown a lot recently. I've surprised myself at how I've started being more proactive. But I've been training! I've been working super hard! Everyone can work hard, it's up to YOU to start working!!!

You know what's messed up about people hating on characters who cry? When the character actually has legit reasons to cry! Some of them be put in life or death situations! AND BE KIDS!
I don't know about the rest of you, but I would cry every single second if I was Midoriya. Like, folks be calling him a "crybaby" in a derogatory fashion but think about all he has gone through.
You really think you wouldn't be crying, too? Be honest, be honest. Even if you don't do it right in front of people, you would cry behind closed doors.

Bello Licentiae Chapter 3: New Tech Old Wounds
Summary:
Summary: tw: trafficking, trauma, ableism
'text' JSL Text thoughts
Akira huffed in frustration as their clone dropped when they tried to pull it a little too quickly. They glared at their smoothie as explosions and crackling assaulted their ears from the others making progress. After a moment, they looked up at the dull clacking of an Ectoplasm clone approaching.
"Do you need a break?" he asked.
' No, just thinking, ' Akira signed and took a swig of their drink. They hesitated, shoulders hiking up as they worried their lip before signing in a blur, ' How exactly does your hive mind function? '
"Each clone is like a node that contributes to my overall perception and processing ability. I can assume control of individual nodes, but through training, they've been able to operate independently towards the goal I set forth."
' Can your clones make clones? '
"Yes, although they still use my limit of around thirty. Is that something you want to explore?"
Akira shifted uncomfortably but nodded. ' How do your clones activate your quirk? Or is it just a command you give? '
"For quirk activation, I do have to take control of the clone to activate it, at which point it's my normal activation. A good place to start is examining what you feel where in your body when you warp."
Akira nodded thoughtfully and relaxed slightly as he took a few steps back. Emotion-based activation had been the most effective for them up to this point, so they were familiar with the heart clench that happened just before warping. Taking out their quirk notebook, they started a new table of emotion activations and bodily responses. They dismissed their clone and warped using fear again, this time trying to do a full-body scan while warping. They stumbled, catching themself at an awkward angle on their crutches. Right, focus on a more specific area .
Akira spent most of the day warping around the platform, noting that their heart was the most consistent change and their collarbone pulled just enough to be noticeable when warping more than ten meters or out of line of sight.
As training let out for the day, Aizawa asked them to stay back. Waving off Mad Banquet's teasing and acknowledging Fumikage's meaningful look, Akira cautiously let their teacher approach. "You're not in trouble, kid," he sighed at their tension. "We do need to talk about support gear for coms, though."
Akira bristled, ' I can communicate just fine in JSL, and someone can interpret if need be. '
"What if no one around knows JSL?" he drawled.
' I can use text to speech or a notebook, ' Akira huffed, tapping one of their crutches for emphasis.
"And if you got cut off from your team and are only around villains? Or need to be pulled from rubble?" Aizawa bit out, causing Akira to flinch slightly. He took a breath and softened his expression. "I raised my concerns with Power Loader, and he has a few suggestions. They'd be easy to incorporate in your hero gear, and I'm not asking you to use them outside of emergency situations. Just hear Majima out, and if you hate the ideas, we can talk about alternatives."
Akira looked up in defiance and went to cross their arms when they caught the flicker of pain in Aizawa's eyes. Taking in his now slightly more open, defensive posture, Akira sighed. ' Fine! I'm not going to use them outside of work, though. If they make sense. '
As they walked to the development studio, Akira's thoughts turned back to their conversation with Fumikage two nights prior. Taishiro heard Fumikage that night at the hospital, so he was aware something else happened. Akira had been mulling over who to tell and hadn't worked up the nerve to start the conversation. Taishiro was the obvious choice, but the time and place would be difficult to get without raising suspicion. Aizawa would be convenient but far less predictable in outcome since the League had it out for his students. Inui was... an option, but this would certainly fall under a danger to others, and there was a reason they hadn't brought him into the investigation. I'll have to be careful when I see him Sunday .
Aizawa occasionally cast curious glances at them as the pair walked but remained silent until they were in front of the studio door. He sighed, "3... 2... 1..."
Akira chuckled in disbelief as the door was thrown open not by an explosion this time but by an ecstatic Hatsume. They waved as she chattered on about shock absorption boots and glove braces as Majima guided them out of the studio. "Hatsume, Hatsume, Mei ! Aizawa and Mori are here, I need to show them some support-"
Hatsume gasped and whipped around to Akira. "You're back! How's the wheelchair? How are your braces? Did they provide enough support in Kamino? Can I make your wheelchair hover?"
Akira chuckled and interrupted, ' The test runs I did were good. They're great. Yes, they held up well. No. Remember our talk about minimalist design? '
"But my babies..." Hatsume pouted.
"Aizawa, this is Mei Hatsume, the resident problem child of 1-H." Majima ignored Hatsume's gasp of feigned hurt. "She has a good eye for design and helped with solutions for a few of your students on Wednesday."
Aizawa hummed, a spark of curiosity and amusement hidden in his eyes. "I recall them talking about an eccentric inventor, and I doubt it was you, Majima. Let's start."
Majima rolled his eyes under the mask and led them inside, squinting at Hatsume before reluctantly accepting her presence. He brought them to a table with a few mockups and ran through the basics of each. Sensors similar to those used for CGI would read their body language and sign language and would use an AI voice generator to send the message across a standard communicator or to a small speaker.
Gloves with sensors in the fingertips and palms to type and activate, respectively, would convert text to speech and send to a standard communicator or a small speaker.
Finally, a cluster of nanobots sat next to a slightly larger than average communicator and a small speaker. The nanobots would be injected and stay over their speech sensorimotor cortex and transmit electrocorticography signals to the communicator or speaker for a neural network and natural language model to decode into generated speech. While the most invasive of the options, this would allow Akira the most flexibility in doing other things or not being able to move while communicating.
' How long would it take for it to be a reliable option for communication? And what's the risk it would send thoughts instead of what I want to say? ' Akira asked, intrigued by the last option.
"The standard for medical use is 30 training sessions over as many weeks, but you can reduce that by practicing during standard training and in your free time," Majima explained. "That was an issue when the technology first developed, but in the decades since it went public, we've been able to narrow down the range of signals and provide better training. It is a nonzero possibility, especially when you're first learning to use the device, but there are built-in shut down and startup commands similar to the ones for your capture weapon. You'll just need to set them to your desired command phrases as part of the first training session."
' What about tone control? ' Akira asked. ' Will it be reading the amygdala or pick up something from the signals? Or just use monotone? '
"It puts the same emphasis that you would if you were speaking the words."
With the other two, there'd still be the issue of incapacitation or otherwise being unable to move my hands. If it's a villain or hostage blocker, the movements could still clue in the wrong people... Akira firmly nodded and gestured to the nanites. ' If I need an assistive device for emergencies in the field, this seems like the best option. '
' And you're sure you want to be home for the arrest, ' Akira signed, carefully looking over Shoto.
"I'll be fine," he said. At their pointed look, Shoto added, "Fuyumi and Natsuo will be with me, and I have your numbers."
' You take care of Wildfire, we'll check in on Peppermint. ' Koji smiled encouragingly. One of Fumikage's moms had already picked him up, so Hitoshi and Akira were just waiting for Fuyumi to get Shouto before they left. Koji's parents wouldn't be picking him up for a few more hours since they were coming back from a conference, but there were a few others staying at the dorms over the weekend with Vlad on chaperone duty for the first-year dorms.
Tucked into the corner of one of the couches, Akira fiddled with the bag filled with yaki onigiri they'd made with Sero that morning. The common area felt all too big now that most of the students had left for the weekend, only the hum of electricity and faint ticking of the wall clock filling the silence. Hitoshi lounged on the couch with Kaminari's head resting against his cushion, both trying to hide their blushes. Koji sat on the edge of an armchair with a carrier for Kerfluffle while Shoto sat properly on the opposite end of the couch from Hitoshi and Kaminari. Katsuki was cooking up something spicy in the kitchen and didn't engage much with the others.
Aizawa straightened against the wall and called out, "Shoto, your sister is here for you. Koda, are you sure you don't want us to wait for you? Alright, Kan should be here in an hour or so to check in on everyone, and you have our numbers in case of emergency."
Readjusting the straps for their bottoms again, Akira got up and slung the jacket from Yamada's first shopping trip over their new mesh and leather vest sleeveless shirt. They still mostly kept their back covered with the jacket, but they were starting to feel more comfortable branching out. Kaminari gave them finger guns as they got up. Akira snorted and Hitoshi gave him a playful nudge.
"I thought you like Shinso," Shoto commented in confusion.
Kaminari grinned and slung an arm around Hitoshi's waist. "Of course, I do! Who doesn't like our string bean?"
Hitoshi turned beet red as Koji quietly laughed and Aizawa snorted, ducking into his capture weapon. Akira shared an amused look with Shoto, who looked even more confused. ' Just because Electric Rat doesn't have a fashion sense doesn't mean they can't recognize one, ' Akira teased.
"Heey," Kaminari pouted in his Pikachu shirt and jeans. "I can look fabulous! This is just my casual wear."
"Come on, problem children," Aizawa muttered as he led the way to the cars. Akira started to split off towards the main road, but he fixed them with an unimpressed stare. "You got out of Chiyo's care a week ago. I'm giving you a ride to your district."
Akira rolled their eyes and tapped a crutch for emphasis. ' I'm more than capable of taking the train. A strange car will bring far more attention than a kid with crutches, trust me. '
"What if your family tries something?" Hitoshi asked quietly, concern seeping into their features.
Akira dryly chuckled, ' After Principal's display? They won't try anything before a press conference. The stoat carries far more weight than a teenager. The community on the other hand? Will absolutely track an unfamiliar car one of our kids exited. '
Raising an eyebrow, Aizawa huffed and crossed his arms, "And yet they let you go home with me?"
' We trust you. You've proven yourself to be reliable and an ally when we need you, ' Akira signed with a jut of their head. ' Even before the antibiotics, you helped people and looked the other way when people weren't a danger to themselves or others. I wasn't lying when I said you were already helping that day in Nurse's office. There's a reason I trusted you from the start, although being an underground hero in general didn't hurt. '
Turning to Shinso, they remembered with a small smile what Boss had offered. 'Blank, if you keep patrolling warehouse district 13 with Eraser, you'll need to know a couple signs. This is "safe adult," this is "friend of Mortis," this is "Wrens," and this is "emergency Eraser." Only use the last if you need help for you or Eraser, and he isn't around for some reason. Either way, it'll signal that you're with him.'
Aizawa snorted and gave Akira a bewildered look. "Why is that my sign?"
' We usually go by distinctive features, which for you is your eyes. Right now, Blank is just "kid lavender," but I haven't been by lately to help choose a name, ' Akira explained. Excitement bubbled to the surface as they thought of the night ahead. ' Since you've been spotted with Eraser a few times outside the internship, I wanted to make sure you understood the signs in case a concerned community member approaches you. Trafficking isn't uncommon, and we know to be wary of unfamiliar children around adults, even underground heroes. '
Smoothing out his features, Aizawa slowly reached out, telegraphing his movements before lightly putting a hand on Akira's shoulder. "Come on, kid, I'll drive you to the station at least."
Letting themself relax into the warm, unfamiliar pressure for a moment, Akira reluctantly nodded and followed the pair to the faculty parking lot. The minivan ride to the station was thankfully short as Hitoshi's blush deepened the more questions Aizawa and Yamada asked about Kaminari. When Yamada turned a question about relationship status to Akira, they just laughed and signed that they had no interest.
The first time back on the train since uncovering Arata's fate left Akira feeling a little tense as they eyed the spot the drunk had always sat. Even now, people were leaving it open out of habit or remembrance, Akira wasn't sure. When they stopped seeing him, the community had hoped he had gotten help or caught a break since no one had heard from him, but his apartment was cleared out.
You'll never have to sleep on a warehouse floor again... Akira shook their head, wondering if All for One made the same promise to Arata. Akira got off a stop early, not wanting to linger around the memories longer than they had to. As they neared the apartment complex, they looked down to see a call from Dabi. Eyebrows crinkling, they accepted with video. Their eyebrows shot up, and they nearly dropped their phone as Toga appeared on screen next to Dabi.
' Can I help you? ' Akira slowly signed, balancing their phone on a crutch while leaning against the side of a café.
"They want to meet you properly now, and Toga wouldn't let me text you like a normal person," Dabi said begrudgingly.
"Hi!" Toga cheered with a grin. "Dabi's teaching me JSL, isn't that cute?" she squealed.
' I- I guess? Wildfire, did something change? ' Akira asked.
"They're aware of your deal," Dabi said, voice bored but eyes sharp and searching.
Akira grimaced, ' I was going to talk to you about that this weekend. Not exactly something I can bring up near prying eyes. Are they all there? ' At his nod, they sighed and signed ' see you in a few ' before ending the call.

Notes:
I was looking for options to give Akira in emergency situations, and neuroprosthetic tech is much further along than I thought! It's a pretty interesting research rabbit hole, and I'm trying to ground assistive devices in what currently exists. All of the ones present in the fic are either a slightly improved version of currently existing tech or the potential conclusion to research currently being conducted. The nanobot model is actually something that exists today (minus the nanobots, but they would not be down for surgery and I've set the precedent); if you want to check it out, here's the link: Now they're stylin! I've been wanting to put them in this top since I found visual kei, but they were too insecure and nervous about exposure of their back scar before. The original top has lace, but I just really like doing that texture with details. They have both black and rainbow laces for their boots; I just felt like doing rainbow that day. I imagine Eraser's sign is an open hand facing your face closing to an open fist over the eyes, and Akira's is clasping your left fist with your right hand then quickly drawing your right hand to the side into another fist. I don't know JSL, though, so don't want to accidentally use a sign that means something completely different.
