Rollercoaster Tycoon, spring 2024.
machine pieced, long-arm quilted. some of the top is naturally dyed with madder or painted on with bleach. (the ice dye you might be spotting was done by my professor! <33)
i feel like no matter what lighting i try to take photos of this little quilt in, it either looks washed out of over-saturated :/// oh well!! some backlog from school (which i graduated from! whoa!) this was my first improvisational quilt and my first time using our long-arm sewing machine! i miss her ;;;;~;;;; but this little guy cemented for me how much i like allowing a quilt to be whatever wonky shape it turns out as.

This is an online quilt workshop. Personally, I can't do workshops. Between audio processing disorder and the price of workshops, it's not something I find appealing. My mother, one of my aunts, and my grandmother enjoy workshops, so perhaps some of you may as well.

Hey y'all! Weird question time again, this time martial arts related: If you ever took a martial arts class that included sparring, did they teach you how to fall and how to throw a punch (like physically how to hold your hand and wrist as you punch so you don't hurt yourself) Because it occurs to me that the classes I took never went over that? And like, I didn't really need them to, my mom used to teach kickboxing and taught me to throw a punch correctly when I was a very little kid, but it's weird that it never came up, right? My mom and I took the classes together, and a few times we brought a friend of mine and they did not teach her how to throw a punch either and she was a total beginner

I've got fiber arts brain rot. Once I finish my embroidery project I'm going to learn use the little loom gf has. I remember making a few pot holders as a kid and it was fun. I bet it'll be even more fun now that I have design sensibilities!

HHhH I wanted to tumble-dry the quilt to revive it a little, it spent three weeks vacuum packed, but this bizzarely stupid "intelligent" washer/dryer decided (despite me explicitly specifying not to) to run some kind of hot "steam dry" cycle that looks like it has the same effect as a hot wash. Blue colour runs all over the place. Currently consulting with the relatives about solving colour runs while it goes for another cold wash, hopefully the steam cycle didn't make anything permanent. Fuck!

it makes me sad how often textile arts are ignored as actual art forms, and are relegated to the disregarded realm of 'old lady hobbies'. there is so much skill involved, such a broad diversity of forms, but so many people straight up do not think of things like crochet or quilting as art.
