It has been two months and it is time to move on from Mexico City...for now. Changed up our plans, and so we're now headed further into the interior a bit to the lovely state of Puebla. We hope to do some scenic tours around there and hopefully get to Oaxaca, too. The plan is be there for a month, and then off to the Yucatan until September. We then plan to circle back to CDMX for our final month or so on the road.
I've shared in my last several posts how the experience of being in CDMX now has been for me. It has been bittersweet at times, deliciously adventurous, enlightening and sometimes frustrating, but always vibrant, joyful, and loud. My brain has been on overdrive since we arrived, and then I took those classes I've written about and that's kept my creative and intellectual juices overflowing - and definitely keeping any ego in check.
And of course, the book research we have done here has been so great! It has been very important and necessary for our work to walk along the streets and among the places I recall from long ago, while learning new things together and from the people who live here. As my co-author and life partner, Baylen, has put it: I'm mainly recalling and writing about my memories and experiences as he works mainly on researching and creating details to fill the spaces in between. We both will collaborate to weave it all together, naturally, but this initial division of labor has worked well for us and for the story. Though we have also recognized that there has been an emotional toll on me sometimes because recalling painful things cost something inside of us. This book is a work of fiction, but based on a bit of my life at a specific time when I lived here as a young girl, and those memories are a mixed bag for me. It's mainly that the lessons from that time have been a net positive and benefitted me since, but the experience was hard on me for many years.
Beyond capturing the reflections of my past, we've been working on other elements for the book. We've been creating the narrative and our beloved characters as we've walked many miles visiting different corners of this mega town, enjoying several mezcals and beers (and sometimes mojitos) over many tacos and quesdaillas, and perusing so many archives, museums, and historic sights to inform us well. We've explored a lot and investigated even more all with an eye toward thinking about where we envision our story ending. I'm thinking it will end much like my time has in CDMX - both back in 1982 and today. It will end on a hopeful note.
Much like the work I created in my ceramics classes, I feel so much more centered than I did when we first arrived. I feel clearer on what makes me happy and on what satisfaction feels like after a day's worth of book work. I'm also ready for the next stage of things. First, the rest of our trip, and then the rest of the year back in the States, and finally the rest of our time together finishing this book and beyond. Incidentally, Baylen and I will be celebrating 30 years together this Sept. Here we were at mile marker 25. We had only been in Seattle about a year. Feels forever ago already. Bonkers. It's possible that even after all of this time, Baylen is only now really understanding my story as he has gotten to know me differently while we've been traveling here. I'm just guessing. But I imagine that while he has been part of my life for so long, there were parts of me I didn't reveal as much until now given our book. What travels! Until next time, Mexico City!
Until next week!

I decided that if I ever needed a new brand identity for visual design and illustration then I would go with a #Quesdailla and pronounce it “ksahdillah” like in #NapoleonDynamite I even made the #hipster aka #startup version Digital drawing on @sketchableapp and finished in @Adobe #Photoshop. #artlifeallday #digitalartist #drawdaily #documentthegame #brand #design #visualdesign #logos #cheese #mexican (at Azalea Creative Group) https://www.instagram.com/p/By_76a7AJlO/?igshid=ymq81eagno5k

Reminder that this is my first playthrough, no spoilers pls!
First post! Just wanna say that I’ve been loving Omori so, so much. The story has been really drawing me in, I’m currently at the part where I’ve reached the underwater highway. But I decided to take a detour to do some side quests and do stuff in the Orange Oaisis finally. I love all the little paralllels I’ve been noticing between the dream world and faraway town. The music has been great too, my favorite theme so far has been “See you tommorow” and a lot of the boss music! Also gotta say, the gameplay is so fucking good! I knew the story is amazing based on everything people have told me BUT THE GAMEPLAY AND EMOTION SYSTEM IS SO FUN! Obviously it’s kinda unneeded in small battles vs weaker enemies, but it’s so much fun to play with against bosses and harder enemies!!! It’s honestly part of why I made this sideblog is cause I kinda wanna make a big gameplay guide for the game so I can experiment with it more. Is that something people would be interested in?

Saturday things ✨
11/10/18
✨ woke up at 7am (could’ve slept in for the first time in ages but of course I woke up at the crack of dawn and up I was.. lol)
✨ snuggled with Thea and did some history hw for an hour.
✨ then I had my internship training all day; 9am-3:30pm.
Got a coffee on the way there and ugh the holiday cups ☺️🍁🍂🎄
✨ came home, showered, and then made dinner! It looks unappetizing but it was so good!! Broccoli and potato “tater tots,” sweet potato tater tots, Trader Joe’s tempura cauliflower, and a “cheese” quesdailla!
✨ I’m feeling super gross food wise today though. I had a Trader Joe’s pretzel bagel for breakfast at training (just plain and it was amazing though!) and then I forgot to take lunch so I just had a second bagel with a tiny bit of pb. Two bagels feel so bad tbh. And then I didn’t work out at all today since I had training and then I can’t really run right now bc the air quality here is so bad from the fires.
So I’m anxious and stressed about it. But I’m trying to just move forward.
✨ anyways, gonna do another hour of hw and then I’m going to watch a movie! Thinking maybe bad moms 2 (I love that movie lol) or something like that :)
Anyways, I hope you’re all doing well and happy Saturday!
