1993Â
It was a Friday night and after downing a few beers while watching the latest episode of The X-Files - a total rip off of the classic horror The Entity - Eddie suggested they hit the town.
Steve normally took longer to get ready, so Eddie was surprised when he heard his door open as Steve leaned on the doorframe.
"Twenty-year old Eddie would be so disappointed if he were to see me now." Eddie moved to grin at Steve before turning back to the mirror to finish applying his eyeliner.
Steve stepped into his room wearing pale blue jeans with a brown belt and a patterned shirt unbuttoned to close to his navel.
"How so? I thought make-up was part of the whole metal scene." Steve waved his hand about, "Like Kiss."
"Oh God!" Eddie turned to face Steve, wagging the kohl pencil in his direction, "Twenty-year old Eddie would have torn you a new one for suggesting that Kiss were metal." He paused, "Actually, he would have subjected you to a ten minute lecture about the difference between glam rock and metal and how metal is a far superior genre in every way. He may have even stood on a table." He grinned.
"Twenty-year old Eddie sounds like a pretentious douchebag." Steve took the pencil from Eddie, leaned towards the mirror to add a light dusting of darkness to the edge of his eyes, smudging it with his finger.
Eddie surveyed him for a moment before responding, "Yet you were desperate to be friends with him anyway."
Steve turned to face him, he looked a little lost before snapping back to his regular expression. "You ready?"
Eddie looked down at his own outfit. He'd gone for a pair of leather trousers, a deep cut tank top under his leather jacket and a number of silver necklaces. He felt pretty good.
"Let's go, Harrington."
The club was warm and they were several drinks in. Steve was, as always, surrounded by men, dancing without a care in the world, although Eddie had noticed he'd stuck to his side a little more than normal. Checking in more frequently, his arm around Eddie's shoulders, lips brushing his ear as Steve tried to hold a conversation amongst the loud music. He looked good, he always looked good. In his element, all attention on him, Christ, he was easy on the eye.
Eddie left him to it, going to the bar for another drink. It was nice, being out with Steve. They hadn't hung out just the two of them for a while. Eddie hadn't quite realized how much he's missed it until tonight. Steve was different when it was just the two of them.
As he joined the queue around the bar, a body hit him from his side.
"Eddie!"
He recognized the guy. Couldn't place a name though, someone he'd hooked up with at some point.
"Hey." He nodded, turning back to face the bar, not really in the mood for conversation. The guy nudged him again
"Haven't seen you in a while. How have you been?" Sure, he was doing this.
He answered politely, "Not bad."
He didn't bother asking the guy how he was, but he answered anyway, going into a long explanation of the last year. What he'd been up to, mentioned people Eddie didn't know, talked about places he hadn't been. He suddenly realized who the guy was. Some total drone who hadn't the social grace to understand when Eddie wasn't interested beyond a hook up. He was barely interested in the hook up at the time, now he came to think about it, but it was late in the night and Eddie had been out of options. He was paying for it now it seemed. Eddie zoned out a little, the guy was boring as fuck and Eddie just wanted a drink.
"So, what's your situation at the moment?"
"I've got a boyfriend, actually." He lied.
"No shit. You exclusive?â
Eddie nodded.
The guy looked around them, âHe here tonight?â Eddie shrugged noncommittally, didn't want this conversation to drag on any longer than I had to.
They reached the bar at the same time and the bartender asked their drink order. The guy nudged him, "I remember," ordered Eddie's drink and one for himself.
"Uh, and a beer too," he asked the bartender.
The guy looked at him, leaned against the bar, "He is here."
Eddie had an idea. A stupid, stupid idea.
"Yeah. He's over there," he nodded towards the dancefloor.
The bartender arrived back with their drinks and before Eddie had a chance, the guy had placed a note on the counter, picked up his drink and turned to Eddie, expectant.
Great.
Eddie found Steve sitting in one of the booths, a thin layer of sweat covering him, his hair still impossibly, beautifully tousled.
"Hey sweetheart," Eddie sat down next to him, throwing an arm over his shoulder and giving him a brief peck on the cheek.
Steve's eyes grew wide for a moment whilst Eddie desperately tried to convey the situation through eye contact alone. He put Steve's beer on the table, gestured with his own in the direction of the guy.
"Look who I bumped into at the bar."
The guy held out his hand to Steve, "Damien. Nice to meet you." Damien, of course.
Steve shook his hand, looking between the two of them. Realization dawning on his face, he reached an arm around the small of Eddie's back, pulling him closer, his fingers dancing a little under Eddie's vest. Eddie found himself shivering at the contact.Â
"So how do you know my boyfriend?" His voice was strong, emphasized the word boyfriend in a way that staked a claim. Shit, that was hot and Steve caught on fast when he wanted to.Â
Damien looked a little taken back by the possessiveness in Steve's voice, "Old friend," he responded looking at Eddie.
Steve reached forward to grab his beer, leaning back in the booth to take a swig before holding the cold bottle against his cheek, running it down his chin and onto his neck. Allowing the condensation to mingle with the sweat that had built up from dancing.
Eddie swallowed. Hard.
"Fuck, it's warm in here," he winked at Eddie.
He addressed Damien without taking his eyes off Eddie. "Nice to meet you. Can you fuck off now, we're busy."
Steveâs lips hit Eddie's at an angle as he pulled him forwards by the scruff of his shirt. Eddie felt Steve grin against his mouth, as he opened his lips a little, testing how far Steve would go. Steve hummed in surprise as he swept his tongue over his bottom lip.
Eddie glanced to the side and Damien was still standing there. Dude seriously couldnât take a hint.
As if he had read his mind, he felt Steveâs hand hover over his other side before grabbing him and in one swift motion, Steve maneuvered him into his lap.
Eddie landed heavily onto Steve's lap and they both looked at each other with shock for a moment before Eddie remembered what they were doing. He tried desperately to stay alert to the fact that this playing pretend, not let himself imagine it was real in any way. Damien was still standing there so he leaned forward again, drawing Steve's chin upwards to capture his lips with his own again and then they were full on making out.
Eddie could taste the beer on his breath, the sweat still glistening all over his body prominent on his upper lip. He felt the damp and warmth between their bodies as he gave an exaggerated grind with his hips. At the movement, Steve let out an involuntary whine, and with equal joy and horror, Eddie realized Steve was starting to get hard.
He froze, his mind playing catch-up with his body, which was singing at him to continue, to keep taking and taking. But it was too much. He could feel the lines blurring and that could only lead to trouble. He wasnât about to take advantage of Steveâs good deed, make it into something it wasnât. He wasn't about to actually do something they'd both regret. Steve was straight, they were just getting into character a little too well.
He leant back and cupped Steveâs face in his hands, his expression indecipherable. Finding himself a little out of breath, Eddie looked to where Damien had been standing to see that, thankfully, he'd got the hint and left.
Turning back to Steve, the look had gone, replaced with his normal cockiness. He grinned at Eddie, shifting him off his lap and back into the booth.
"Who was that then?" He reached out and took another sip of his beer, discreetly adjusting himself as he did so.
"Some guy who wouldn't take no for an answer." He took a sip of his own drink, allowing himself a moment to breathe. "Uh, thanks. For that. I think I'd have been stuck with him for the rest of the night if you hadn't've, y'know."
Steve's expression was soft, too genuine for the situation, before his face split into a big grin, "Anytime, man."
"Fuck," Eddie pushed his hair back and laughed, "I'm gonna hold you to that.
Steve rolled his eyes. Downing the last of his beer, he stood up holding out his hand to Eddie, "C'mon, Munson. You owe me a dance."
Eddie finished the dregs of his own drink before he took Steve's hand and let him lead him onto the dancefloor. He didn't leave his side for the rest of the night.

164 hits on Orange Juice!! Who tf is reading my shit?!?!? đ
Iâm so happy. Iâve been trying to write books since I was 7 and never finishing them, this is a major breakthrough. It was originally a One Shot, but Iâm writing a prequel and seeing how it goes!
Iâm writing a new chapter today. Wish me luck! As Iâve been distracted from writing part way through by a burger today already.
Iâll have a go at doing some illustrations for the chapters as well, no promises on that one though. But the art makes it flow nicer, I feel more settled having illustrated descriptions alongside what Iâm trying to communicate in the story.

ngl feel really really weird about the direction we've gone wrt internet safety for teens. when i was a kid it was hammered into us that we should never reveal our real names, our faces, or our ages on the internet. in fact it was extremely important not to reveal your age bc if you did, predators could target you.
now we've decided that the locus of potential sexual harm from adults is not predators who set out to target teens, but rather well-meaning adults who might accidentally let a minor see smut on their blog. so we make everyone broadcast their ages to everyone. which puts a target on the backs of teens who are now advertising to everyone that they're underage.
we also situate sexual harm of minors in "a minor saw sexual content!!" which, listen, im sorry to tell you this but teenagers have sex drives and want to see sexual content. a 16yo is not being harmed by reading a smut fic.
now i do understand why nsfw blogs don't allow minors to interact, bc the interaction constitutes an issue since that's on some level a teen and adult interacting sexually. but the issue is not that a teen saw something sexual, it's that you should not be having that interaction with them. still i am not convinced that that is riskier than giving predators knowledge of who to target.
i also worry what happens when all the well meaning people with best practices turn teens out of their spaces -- who does that end up leaving them with? i'm not saying the solution is to invite them in but there has to be some other, third option. i also think we need to understand the difference between a 17yo liking a sex-related shitpost on tumblr vs an actual intentionally predatory sexual interaction from an adult.
i don't think it's necessarily bad to set a boundary and not allow them to like the shitpost, but i don't like the idea that it was harmful for them to have even seen it. i think it's actually positive for teens to have exposure to adults who are talking about sexuality in consent-based, sex-positive, queer-informed ways to balance out all the shitty, sexist bioessentialist perspectives they're getting elsewhere.
also again, we should remember that the issue is sex-based interactions between teens and adults, NOT that teens are bad or wrong for being interested in sex and sexuality. if a really young teen is too interested in that it could be concerning but age-appropriate levels of sexuality are fine and good and i don't want kids to think they're wrong, dirty, or bad for experiencing sexuality.
i think there's a balance here where we need to make sure interactions are safe without diving headfirst into a spring-awakening-style world where we assume teens are too innocent and pure to know anything about sex which results in risky behavior, not practicing safe sex, and not understanding consent. and i get worried sometimes that the current culture around this leads us there.
i especially worry about this in regards to kink and bdsm because i don't know if there are any educational resources out there geared to teens. i do think it's a good idea to wait until you're 18 before doing anything hardcore or too intense, or even kink at all, but if they're going to anyway (and some will) i'd rather teens have a solid safety backing and knowledge as opposed to just acting on instinct because that can really be dangerous. and something i really worry about is people who turn 18 and immediately show up to play parties and start hooking up with people without having that background knowledge because they were prevented from accessing it before then, since it's so easy for abusers to exploit them. young adult women are already extremely vulnerable in those spaces.
i don't know what my exact solution to these issues is but i feel really concerned about where we're heading. i've been wanting to say something for a while but have been afraid that people would interpret this the wrong way. i'm sure some still will, but i hope this can at least start a conversation about these issues.

TMayNT Day 5: Favourite Leo.
So I decided to make this harder for myself. This is all Rise Leo, but I collected my favourite (but not all) head cannons, AUs and Fanfics into a little GIF slideshow. We have: canon accurate Leo, Future Leo, Neon Void (by sugarpastels), Like Father Like Son Leo (by eternalglitch), sick fic/angst/trauma/recovery post movie Leo, and gay/transmasc/queer Leo.
Leo gets this special treatment because Rise Leo is not only my favourite but also one of the few characters I enjoy reading AUs and fanfics centred around. I don't know why.
Non dithered version w clearer Leos but less smooth backgrounds below:
Not sure if I like the version with dithering or not... The background is better but the Leos not so much.
I added this under read more because they don't sync and that would drive me nuts.
I hope how I'm posting things is ok? I'm not really up on Tumblr culture.

no please bc just once I wanna make hobie nervous flustered.. like why canât he canât be intimated by me why I always gotta be intimidated by him đđ
TRULLLYY The opportunities are endless!! Let's talk about it!!!!!!!!!!!
Hobie Brown Loves Feminists and Defying the Patriarchy aka Hobie Brown and Writing write Non-Conventional Romantic Relationships in 'x-readers'
[this is an analysis where I analyze Hobie Brown, non-conventional relationships, and how feminism factors in to it all. Basically a critique/dive/rant into the narrow 'x-reader culture' in the Hobie Fandom
I touch on issues in Smut, labels, and how we can write 'Y/N's that challenge that status quo and fit Hobie better. I also break down how I personally use feminist themes to write a non-conventional relationship for Hobie.] [Also there's now a PART 2 HERE]
Despite the man from the 1970's - the era of bra-burning second-wave feminism - I don't ever think I've seen anyone talk about it, him, and how it influences him.
We all know Hobie isn't down with labels, but it seems like in X-Fem!Reader, the only two options out there are play-boy guitarist and traditional out-of-the-box boyfriend.
Hobie. The man he follows no social quo. Don't expect flowers from him.
Hobie diverges from the norm in nearly every way, and he does it purposefully and intentionally. And I think that'd extend to his romantic relationships too.
So why do we only see him in heteronormative, traditional gender-role based relationships?
Would Hobie be into this? And does the way we write him and his relationships in x-writers serve Hobie emotionally, allowing him to be a full character? (No, they don't.)
How can begin to acknowledge that, just like Hobie cares about race, and class, and housing and queer rights - he'd care about feminism too.
And how would that influence him in romance? How can we start writing healthier x-reader's?
We have enough insecure, blushing 'Y/N's being woo'd by [insert tumblr sexy man]'. Hobie can have so much more - in the words of Beyonce "Where the ladies up in here who like to talk back?!"
Hobie Brown, Romance, and Gender Roles
Why can I be the one calling him 'love', and 'darling', and 'sweetheart'?
Where's the fic where I'm the one comforting and taking care of him when he's sick/down?
Why can't Hobie be the one asked to be held?
There's something lacking here!!!!!!!
I honestly think Hobie would be into it, and find it very attractive - having a feminine partner who defies gender roles in their relationship purposefully and proudly.
Hobie loves subverting expectations and challenging society. So, and seeing many people unthinkingly assume he'd have a completely normal, routine heterosexual relationship without question -- uhhh I don't like that!!!
Like, Hobie is very clearly attractive. He's like 6'5", a guitarist, and punk. Let's be real, people of any gender are gonna be flirting with him, whether he's into it or not. He without a doubt gets flirted at all the time.
I think he'd love someone who cuts the bullshit and is like "You're really cute. I've got the biggest crush on you."
Not in a pushy way, but a relaxed way.
But I hardly ever see the x-reader advances being initiated by the reader. Why? It can be really nice to take the confidence to ask someone out and they say yes.
In fact, a lot of x-readers are written demure, passive, and down-right unhealthy in their ability to defend themselves and stand alone. So many are based off the x reader needing Hobie for some reason, whether it be confidence, or protection, or for him to teach them something.
Never Hobie needing the reader for something. Never Hobie being the one to express emotion and need comfort.
Which is funny, because Hobie can show emotions like anger, which he does in the comics. That's NEVER brought up in fics. In no fic do we have the reader witness Hobie hitting someone with a guitar or kicking them in the face. Which Hobie does do.
No, that's too violent for the romanticized fandom of Hobie. He has to be the good boyfriend to the shy girlfriend.
And I feel like there's a reason many of these x-readers are written this way - is heteronormativity and a dash of misogyny-flavored sexism involved??? maybe.
Especially with x fem readers, feminine people are always expected to be passive and submissive. Women in the real world are expected to mute their advances and 'be coy' for the sake of sexist 'respectability'.
We're taught that 'giving them the eyes' is (somehow??) an 'advance'. Or that you have to wait to be asked out or else you're 'too forward'.
[Insert Barbie Movie Monologue here]
Personally, I think Hobie would be SO refreshed by a girl who comes up to him and is like "Hey, are you busy on Friday? Do you wanna meet me then? I wanna go on a date with you."
Because, realistically 95% of the people in the Hobie fandom - including me - would probably be too nervous to even speak a sentence to Hobie.
So for someone to approach him directly, state their intentions, and be so open to potential rejection, that's impressive - I think he'd LOVE that shit!!!
I think it's a nice juxtaposition to have him with someone who diverges from the 'demure ideal of a girlfriend'.
A girl who walks around like Jessica Drew. Walks in the room like "My man is SEXY AF and he about to walk in so LOOK. BE JEALOUS."
I imagine so many people around him try to act like they DON'T like Hobie when they clearly do - and he can tell. So to have someone who isn't hiding it is a kind of candidness that differs from it all.
So often are women forced into the passive role of waiting to be 'chosen'. Fuck that, you want him, go get him.
Hobie, Romance, and Labels
I also think Hobie would REALLY like a partner who knows what they want.
I always see people be like 'Hobie doesn't like labels!! He wants to keep it casual!' or 'Nooo he was kidding about the labels thing - he'd love a committe-'
WHO SAYS HE'D BE THE ONE DEFINING THE SITUATION????????? WHO SAID HE GETS THE LAST SAY???!!!!!
I feel like Hobie would go fucking NUTS for a girl who is straight up like "yeah I'm just trying to fuck. Are you okay with that?" or "I like what we've got going on. I'm not looking for anything serious, but let's keep going."
Or a partner that is very clear about their labels. A person who's like "I like you but if you're not trying to be exclusive I'm gonna get a move on." Because he's not gonna have you out here looking DUMB, people better know you're in the mfing picture.
That's some grown ass shit! It shows she knows what she wants and that she's not wavering on it, even for him. He's with it. I don't think Hobie would be down to be like "I'm ur boyfriend now" OR "I'm ONLY down for fucking lol srry'.
She gets a say too. And she should be clear on what she wants.
If she's the one to take the initiative and name the game - that's great for him. He's down for whatever, what is it that YOU wanna do??
Hobie, Romance, and Intimacy (like for the grown folks 18+) __________________________________
đ
In a LOT of fic and especially SMUT, it's always Hobie making the advances, or at least initiating them. In society, women are taught that's how is, that being sexually 'aggressive' and proactive - not just SUGGESTIVE - is inappropriate.
Wait till Hobie slaps your ass, then the smut could start. Wait till Hobie kisses you, then there's romance.
Nah, I'm the one smacking his ass. I'm the one pulling his belt loop saying Come 'ere. What if I'm the one who wants to pull him down for a first kiss, huh??? I gotta wait??
Even in dialogue-
In a lot of fics Hobie can talk as raunchy as ever, but the woman can't say 'pussy'? Hobie can say three sentences straight about how my coochie feel but the reader only gets to moan submissive requests back??
Can the dirty talk be two-sided? Because women should be allowed to be vocal in their pleasure.
Hobie can tell you he wants you to suck his dick, but when's the reader gonna say "Come eat this pussy like you mean it." HM??????
In fics the reader can only be suggestive - in order to bait him into initiating, like sending him a suggestive picture or throwing a bra on stage. But it's hardly ever the other way around. With the reader being the one to say 'Enough of the teasing, we fucking NEOW.'
Because in our society, a guy slipping a girl's shirt off to get the scene going is hot. But a woman going for a guys belt before he begins to undress her - nooo, that's too forward.
Maybe Hobie wants to feel like the sexy, desired, sought after one.
_______________________________________________
Hobie, Romance and Feminism
Let it be known: Hobie loves people who are socially educated!!!!
If you can look at him and explain what anarchism actually is - like in a politcal theory sense - I think he'd be impressed, because you're seeing through the 'pseudo-rockstar' persona he puts on.
Most if not all of his actions are choice are driven by political action, so having a partner educated in things like anarchy or communism just makes sense with him. Hobie cares about stuff like that, and actually goes out of his way to study and live in line with those ideals.
That includes feminism!!!
I think Hobie would love a girlfriend who is invested in feminism, cares about it, and thinks about it in her decision making.
A woman that is educated about her oppression and how to combat it, and purposefully goes against the strict stereotype labeled on women - especially feminine women - as an act of protest.
A girl who can and will defend herself, go off on, or put a sexist pig in their place. You can't tell me he wouldn't be into that.
Social movements of the oppressed are super important to Hobie, and I think feminism is the same, but I never see it mentioned.
I definitely think that Hobie would have a clear understanding of his privilege as a man and how that effects relationships.
I can see him being like "I'd never propose." Not because he hates labels, but because he acknowledges that for centuries marriage was used as a financial and social transaction to oppress and control women and their bodies, and he doesn't want to be involved in that.
Hit him with that "Same - the gold and diamond rings are trash anyway. Both materials being mined and pillaged in African nations for centuries at the expense of the indigenous populations really puts me off it."
He'd wanna somehow find a way to marry you without marrying you you know what i mean
Hobie loves feminism and feminists. Give him a 70's bra-burning feminism so help me god. He was alive for Roe v. Wade passing (1973), he KNOWS about feminism and probably knows many outspoken feminists.
Hobie, Romance and Individuality
You know what I don't like?
Headcanons or fics that be like "You and Hobie NEVER disagree or argue. Never ever, you always talk it out."
Like...Bullshit. I'm sorry but I don't think it's very realistic.
Hobie is a very opinionated too. He's very outspoken and when it comes to topics, and he usually knows exactly where he stands. I think, without a doubt he'd care what his partner thinks too.
Asking them about a record that's playing, or what they think of a movie they saw in the past, or a new political issue going on. He'd absolutely ask, because he cares. He's interested.
If if ya'll are never disagreeing that means:
Either you agree with his opinion all the time without fail or exception OR
You're biting your tongue around him
I don't think one is very realistic in terms of things. You can't like every song your boyfriend likes. You can't like every movie he shows you, or agree on EVERY political issue. That's not how people are.
And for two - if you're biting your tongue around him, he'll notice.
Yes, Hobie is a very emotionally intelligent person and extremely compassionate. But he's also very strong in his morals, thoughts, and beliefs. He doesn't budge.
If you're biting your tongue, I'd imagine he'd be like "You wanna say something." or "Whatever you're thinking just say it." cause he can see it in your face.
He's not trying to put you on the spot, he just wants to know what you're thinking.
When you explain what you're thinking, he's probably gonna wanna hear why, and respond, etc etc.
Hobie is a very individualistic person, and I think he'd be drawn to someone who is as well. Someone who is solid in their opinions and personhood enough to express them.
It leads to interesting conversation and knowing each other deeper -It's a form of intimacy.
If you watch a film with him and don't like it, he's gonna ask why. Did you not like the theme? Was the dialogue bad? What part did you think sucked the most, he thought x, y, z. What do you think about the part he disliked, did you notice a,b,c?
I feel like Hobie would want to know his partner deeply, and he'd care and love the things that make them different from each other.
Including differing opinions.
Discussions and debates aren't bad. Discussing something and getting heated defending your point can be really fun and stimulating, if it's with someone you care about and the two parties are mature and not assholes.
Tell him why you think he's wrong about something - he wants an excuse to talk more about his opinion. INTELLECTUALLY CHALLENGE HIM DONT JUST AGREE.
Along with being very individualistic, Hobie is very independent. He refused to rely on the Society for their watches - he made his own. So I think the next important thing to him is:
Hobie, Romance and Independence
I like the idea of Hobie having a partner that has their own place and is committed to that, and their space.
Or a partner that emotionally supports him!!
95% of the time, he's the one asking what's wrong, or holding reader, or comforting them.
Can we get hectic bf and organized girlfriend energy?? A gf where he says plans during missions and she's like "What are you thinking? You're gonna get us killed."
A gf that soothes HIM when he gets angry - cause comic Hobie GETS angry, especially after a fight.
Give me ONE, ONE fic where he's drunk coming from a pub and READER has to deal with drunk Hobie and put him to bed.
Hobie is ALWAYS expected to take care of himself, and the people around him. He takes pride in this and he's good at it. But why should he have to do it all the time?
_____________________________________________
In general,
Hobie is a confident person. He knows what he wants, and how to handle himself, and how to approach people and get respect just by being himself. He's assured, and outspoken, and VERY independent. He does what he wants, when he wants and lets you know when it happens
I think pairing him with a confident, assured, outspoked, independent person is only natural. I think him having a relationship with a personality like his would be a ROCK SOLID one.
There's be no fics like 'Groupies were bullying you' because his she would be like "Sis, if I swing on you he isn't gonna hold me back so be careful."
I want a reader that when they do that trope of 'A girl was flirting in front of him making you insecure and uncomfortable' - The reader squashes it right there. Like "Girl, I know you see me standing here. You know we're together. Cut the cute shit!!"
I'm tired of fics taking me for an insecure, submissive, demure, sexually innocent, wimp of a babydoll girlfriend that needs to be babied at every turn. There's nothing wrong with being shy and demure, but when it's all you're offering it's not gonna cut it.
Especially not for Hobie Brown.
Let the tall, dark, actively oppressed black man be the one to vent, or be held, or romanced, and spoken sweetly too. There's so many comfort fics, but not many of them consider Hobie's own trauma - and how a relationship could include that.
Hobie Brown deserves more.
_______________________________________________
If you wanna know how I use this to write a non-conventional relationship for Hobie, that's below this break.
Okay so I'mma leave it here but if you read this far, thank you!!!! I be SO pissed when fics be talking me (Y/N) as a punk (in the wimpy sense not the Hobie sense). Like...nah I wouldve said something in a lot of situations. Irk my last nerve. Like the one where the girl PINCHES you??? Like?? Nah I we would've been fighting, I'm sorry this is unrealistic
Alsooo the section below is about my Spidersona Disco-Spider and how I encorporated all of this into her creation- because I wanted to write a sona who subtly defied gender roles while still being feminine. So if you wanna read there thank you so much, and if not, thanks for reading this far! He's a pic of Hobie in thanks!
[If you wanna check out Part 2 for direct examples, how to write NCRs, and a more in depth look into Disco and Hobie - check it out here]
_______________________________________________
DiscoSpider Diane and The Great Groupie Act [How I use all of this to a write a feminist Spidersona and a non-conventional relationship]
Diane is a HUGE Hobie Groupie - and that's kinda of her main thing.
She runs the Hobie Brown Fanclub on campus, attends all his shows, and wears his guitar pick. She's into him and she's not afraid to show it.
I wanted to write Diane as a purposeful groupie, one who is fine with the title, and even leans into it. Because a lot of the time - and in a lot of fics including guitarists - 'groupie' is seen as a negative thing.
Like K-pop stans, being a 'groupie' - and openly expressing your romantic interest in a hot guy is seen as desperation.
But I wanted to write her as one in spite of this. To swap 'desperation' for unwavering boldness. A girl with the motto 'Closed mouths don't get fed'.
And much like Hobie uses the 'typical punk' label to disarm others, I wanted Diane to mirror that - in the opposite direction.
Diane is a self-proclaimed groupie. And because of that, many (mainly misogynists) assume that she can't think for herself - or at all. And Diane can use that to her advantage.
If Miguel and Jess really believe she only cares about conversations involving Hobie, then they'll talk like she isn't there. And she can listen. If it looks like she's hanging all over him, no one realizes if she's slipping him information.
And it also helps in their relationship.
They both enjoy their privacy.
HQ prohibits relationships between Spidey-people. It's an anomaly waiting to happen - and they make sure to keep a close eye out for it. Plus with Jess breathing down her neck, it's much easier for Diane and Hobie to just keep it underwraps.
In comes the Groupie persona.
No one actually expects the groupie to get the guy. She's desperate, and he's the player guitarist. Plus, if they were dating she couldn't be a 'groupie' right? They wouldn't make sense, would it?
They let people make their own assumptions. By calling herself a groupie, suddenly people think there's no possible way there's something going on, and they don't look closer.
This also allows them the freedom of no labels. Are they boyfriend and girlfriend? Nah she's his groupie. Quit asking questions.
All of this allows me to write Disco in a way that connects back to everything in this post.
By calling herself a 'Groupie' suddenly Diane can subvert expectations of affection, avoid the pressures of labels, and control her image and the amount of information she lets on to people
That in turn helps me write their relationship in a nonconventional way - a way that challenges misogyny around affection and reclaims a sexist fan trope for something more empowering.
Sure, the concept seems silly at first. The ditsy, bubbly, party girl on campus, but I wanted there to be a reason and drive behind it.
Disco-Spider Diane is exactly who she wants to be, an unapologetic, outspoken disco-girl. One that's highly educated and knows her shit.
And also a huge groupie.

I'm asking this to you because you're the only person I know who's been around fandoms for so long â do you find this shipping-situation weird? I've been in many fandoms but I've never really seen this insistence on there being only one acceptable ship for a character and encouraging the idea that anything other than the norm is almost sacrilegious. Almost every big fandom over the years have had multiple conflicting pairings, take for example, Marvel. Even works of media that have a canon romantic pairing have had fans who ship others with the leads (that was what shipping was tbh) and no one has ever shown up to their doorsteps with pitchforks in hand, at least not that I'm aware of. So I guess I'd really like your opinion on why you think this is happening now? Have things always been this way, just not in plain sight? Is this just the new fandom culture that is developing now with the influx of younger people? Or is this fandom an aberration where a group of people are so used to being the majority that they simply aren't taking well to things not going their way?
I've been thinking about this today, and I'm still not sure what I think.
I've been in fandoms with a hugely dominant ship before. I've been in fandoms that had ship wars. I've been in fandoms with a lot of peacefully co-existing ships. I'm not sure this fandom is really all that different. To answer your first question, no, I don't find it all that weird. In fact I sort of expected it.
Let me tell you a story about the Brokeback Mountain fandom, which managed to have a ship war despite having really only one ship, the canon ship. So BBM fic fell into several broad categories, the biggest of which were fix-the-ending/canon divergence fics and the straight-up AU fics (I wrote one of each, lol). Post-canon fics weren't as common, because you had to deal with one half of the canon pairing being...well, dead.
There was a post-canon fic that gained a lot of fans...and when I say "fic" that's really an understatement. It was a SAGA, and I don't use that term lightly. It was a series of like...6 or 7 epic 100K+ word fics and it was over a million words total. The author would put out more than one 5K chapters per DAY. I'm still in awe of this woman's output. But it was the content that created the issue.
(Brief recap for those who have not seen BBM - two ranch hands in the 1960s, Ennis (Heath Ledger) and Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal) spend a season herding sheep together, have sex, form a bond, then separate to go about their expected hetero lives but get together for fishing trips every year or so to have sex and spend time together. Jack wants more, Ennis is terrified. Both marry and have families. Eventually Jack dies in what is implied to be a gay-bashing but who knows, and Ennis makes his peace with the love he'd felt for him)
The saga picked up a couple of years after the film's events. Ennis decides to tentatively explore what being queer means, goes to Laramie, finds a gay bar, and very cautiously enters. Through a Series of Events he gets mixed up in an assault there and befriends a local sheriff's deputy, who is also gay. They begin a relationship.
Now, this series was COMPLEX. A huge cast of characters, a long and thorough evolution of this relationship, a lot of angst over Jack's memory, and it really worked for a LOT of readers. The new love interest she created was a really great character.
For others...it did not work and they hated it.
The animosity between fans who loved this saga and those that did not grew pretty heated. This was like '05 so there was no twitter or tumblr, this was all on LJ and dedicated fandom forums (some of which banned discussion of this fic for this reason), but there was doxxing and namecalling and real vitriol.
I guess my point in all this is that when there's strong feelings, some fans will find a way to be horrible to each other.
I was in the Sherlock fandom, another fandom 98% dominated by one ship. There were other ships, but somehow they seemed to co-exist mostly peacefully barring some snide remarks and rude comments (I could be wrong about this, if you asked someone who shipped a non-Johnlock ship they might have a different answer). No, the insanity in the Sherlock fandom was not ship-war-related.
I was also in the Criminal Minds fandom, which has a whole bunch of disparate ships and no ship wars that I can recall.
Then there are other fandoms, like Avatar, with TERRIBLE ship wars that are still going on.
I don't think the situation in 9-1-1 is as unique or different from other fandom wanks as has sometimes been asserted. I think terrible fandom wars are sort of inevitable, whether they're ship related or not. But for what it's worth, here are some of my thoughts on what's going on here.
A loooooong time (5.5 seasons) with one very dominant non-canonical queer ship. No other ship really ever approached the level of saturation or devotion of Buddie.
A pervasive belief that this ship might possibly become canon. That's a feature a lot of other ships do not have.
A lack of intense devotion to any of the other love interests. BuckTaylor was never a challenger to Buddie. Neither was Eddie and Shannon, or anybody else. It's hard to fight when there's no worthy challenger.
But now? BuckTommy is not only canon, but it has a lot of fans. It's a threat. And it's not only a threat in a feelings kind of way (as in, people like a thing that is not the thing I like and it makes me upset) but there's a perception that it's an ACTUAL threat, as in if people like this ship and promote it, it could cause it to become a permanent relationship (the degree to which fan response actually affects how the show unfolds is...debatable).
I do not personally think this is the case, but some fans strongly believe that Buddie could still happen if it weren't for BuckTommy. So if you're still wanting Buddie and believe it will or could happen, the existence of an alternate love interest represents a direct obstacle to that happening. That's a heck of an incentive to hate that competing ship. I get it.
That...might be a somewhat unique situation. There's a fight now because there's a challenger who might actually stand a chance.
This goes along with what we saw in the immediate aftermath of 7x04. I read someone else say (apologies, I don't know who it was, feel free to @ me if it was you and I'll credit you) that the early post-7x04 enthusiasm and acceptance of Tommy reflected the belief that he was temporary. A lot of folks thought it was just a way for Buck to get with Eddie, like, very soon after that. But the more time went by, the clearer it became that this was not the plan or the intention. So the mood soured for those who were still pulling for Buddie.
Other fandoms I've been in with a hugely dominant ship...Sherlock and X-Files are the two that spring immediately to mind...there was never a challenger with any legs. X-Files fandom wank was between the ship and the...lack of ship, shall we say. But a concrete, tangible "opponent" makes a fight so much more visceral, doesn't it?
I do think there's been a fandom shift towards needing ships to be canon that I don't really get, but it's there. There's been a lot written about fandom culture in the last ten years, the breakdown of boundaries between fans and creators, the access to those creators, a sense of ownership/entitlement, purity culture, obsession with shipping "correctly" (which leads into wanting things to be canon for the validation)...these are all newish features. So pile that on top of 9-1-1 having a longtime single ship that's legitimately threatened for the first time in its existence by a competing canon ship and it's kind of a powderkeg.
No wonder it's caught on fire.

I find fandom culture on tiktok so fascinating.
Because it generally skews so young as a platform, some of the opinions remind me of things I said when I was 15/16 and just getting started in fandom spaces, but it somehow comes off as more aggressive on tiktok, maybe because people have their faces attached and are truly saying things with their whole chests.
With 911 specifically, and with Buck coming out at queer, itâs baffling the way people are soâŚpissed about it? A lot of this comes down to ship wars (which I am..painfully familiar with), but there are multiple larger creators who are actively saying that anyone who ships Buck and Tommy are just fetishizing m/m queer relationships (I wish people could unlearn the word âfetishizationâ), that anything other than Buck/Eddie is queerbaiting and not acceptable.
Firstly, clearly these people didnât live through episodes 18-20 of season 15 of Supernatural and the aftermath of it, but queer rep is a good thing! Especially when itâs been brought about with such joy and care. Wanting Buck to be happy and seeing how happy he is with Tommy, itâs hard to believe people donât like it.
And then those same people that are upset that fic writers have headcanons that Tommy is older and claiming itâs âpredatoryâ (Buck is in his 30s, please touch grass Iâm begging you), are saying that Tommy is a bad person who has been terrible to Buck (specifically referencing him telling Buck he wasnât ready after they ran into Eddie at dinner) which just isnât true at all.
I think a lot of this stems from not wanting any queer ship other than their favorite, which is stupid, but I think it generally comes from being newer to fandom and the kind of platform tiktok is as a whole.
Itâs genuinely insane to me that people are watching Buckâs obvious joy at being with Tommy and saying âTommyâs a bad guyâ or âheâs mean to Buck and taking advantage of himâ or my favorite âanyone who likes Buck and Tommy together just wants to see two hot guys kiss and doesnât care about the repâ (whichâŚwhy not both???)
Iâm very glad that the majority of my fandom life is on tumblr, especially when the people I follow are so excited to celebrate Buckâs queer journey, instead of complaining that it wasnât with the âright personâ

welcome to total drama wlw week! (introduction/pinned)
the purpose of this event week and blog is to celebrate and shine some light on an overlooked part of this fandom, and give some love to wlw creators who are often unappreciated for their work. as well as promoting wlw ships that arenât always given a lot of love!
EVENT DETAILS & RULES:
drawings, fanfics, animations, edits, posts of headcanons, pinterest boards, socmed AUs, etc. are all allowed!
you can make as many posts as you want!!
you don't have to post every day!
tag #tdWLWweek24 on any social media posts
this is a tumblr based event, so post your works on tumblr, but feel free to participate/spread the word on twitter, tiktok or whichever social media you prefer to promote your work as well.
the prompts are guidelines more than rules, but do try to follow them (especially for art & fanfic)
you can choose one of the prompts given on each day, or if youâre feeling creative, try to combine them both!
it doesnât need to be ship content! you can write an analysis of your favourite girl character through a queer lens, you can draw her wearing the colours of the bisexual flag, you can write a oneshot of two lesbians being best friends, etc.
for ship content, please make WLW/sapphic ships the MAIN FOCUS, not sidelined or briefly mentioned alongside straight or mlm pairings. fics/art that centre non-sapphic pairings will not be reposted.
celebrating other queer identities in this event is of course fine (trans, non binary, aspec, etc) but the centre of the event is wlw/sapphic identities so be sure to make that the highlight.
you do not have to be wlw yourself to participate, but of course always listen and make room for wlw creators & do your best to represent wlw stories with guidance from your wlw mutuals & friends <3
if you follow all these rules, you will be reposted/reblogged by us!
the rules listed are not to limit people in their creativity but just to ensure this remains a wlw/sapphic centred event, in order to highlight & celebrate wlw specifically.Â
PROMPTS & DATES:
DAY 1: thursday, 24th october - campfire / historical au
DAY 2: friday, 25th october - sunlight / butch character
DAY 3: saturday, 26th october - put a spin on a myth, âcanonâ literary story, or fairytale that includes your pairing of choice (the tale be from any culture or country of origin!)
DAY 4: sunday, 27th october - rollercoaster / superhero au
DAY 5: monday, 28th october - robbery / proposal
DAY 6: tuesday, 29th october - double date / horror au
DAY 7: wednesday, 30th october - free prompt / rarepair
BONUS: thursday, 31st October - write something for HALLOWEEN!
EXTRA INFORMATION:
this is a blog I started as a response to a lack of appreciation + overall content being made for wlw/sapphic fans of the show! many wlw creators have been making content for ages and not getting a lot of appreciation, and (like many other fandoms) it seems that our pairings and stories aren't given as much of a spotlight or appreciation as heterosexual or gay ones.
I also thought it would be fun! There's no pressure to make lengthy 20 chapter fics or portfolio-ready fanart for this event (though you are perfectly at liberty to do so), you can also make pinterest boards, share headcanons, create socmed AUs, or whatever creative outlet you choose, to celebrate the wlw characters and pairings YOU love.
once this event week is over this blog will remain active, reblogging any posts that are late or just sharing more wlw headcanons, content and rarepairs.

Do you know of any resources - forums, ask blogs on tumblr, etc - where fic writers can ask questions about good representation in stories? Every time I write a character with a physical disability, or who is from a race or culture I'm not a member of, I find myself with really specific questions about how to do it well. The same goes when I am trying to make something screen-reader friendly and I don't know how some niche HTML tag works.
I save every page I find that might be useful in the future, but it's not like those lists of tips include every possible eventuality. I will sometimes tag specific questions - like, say, ask if there is a word for a particular queer identity, and tag it "lgbtq+" - but I assume it's rude to do that unless I already am a part of the community in question.
If you don't have a resource list to hand, can you publish this question and see if Tumblr does the rest?
Hey ecruvian -
I do not have a resource list so we are going to have to take it to crowdsourcing
Hey Tumblr - what sorts of spaces do you go to find resources, sensitivity readers, and maybe beta readers?

do you still have the sick fic comic about fry/melisha/reginald from your old account?(p.s i love your spin/theories of chicken run ,plus all your work is amazining )
Thank you!! <3 and I do have it actually!! I remember being irritated because shortly after I deleted my acc, Tumblr flagged this comic, even though there is no nsfw at all. Guess they could not handle Melisha's mental breakdown LMFAOOO
Gosh I do wanna make comics like this again sometime cuz Melisha's psyche is SO fun to explore. Especially with how scared she is of being vulnerable, now that she is married to Dr. Fry, a person she did not expect to actually grow feelings to. A person she was planning to just use for his wealth, but who managed to actually crawl into her heart and make her feel safe, cared for, relaxed and....gasp, happy??? (also Fry introduced Melisha to 1960s queer culture and made her realize a thing or two about herself, so theres that too LMAO)
Her mother always used to tell Melisha that only money will bring you happiness, that genuine care and love will only bring you regret and disappointment. That it's better to shield your heart with walls of iron. (And you know how women in even slightly wealthy households back then were forced to be strong and stoic and never complain, no matter how stressful a head lady's work may have gotten...) And now Melisha's world is being turned upside down đđđ
Plus, with nonbinary polynerd Fry having also rizzed up Reginald, Melisha of course feels insecure and deep down wonders "what does Fry need me for??" (In my hcs it's a chain thing where they're not a full polycule, cuz Melisha in my hcs is a lesbian. She is okay with sharing Fry with Reginald, but she and Reggie have constantly begdruging beef LMFAO. Deep down though, they're WLW-MLM solidarity)
I kinda wanna also explore a situation where Melisha runs into Willard again after almost 10 years and hooo boy how have their respective situations changed
ANYWAY I'M YAPPING, here's wonderwall

I remember you sometimes (on older posts, in my unfortunate quest on trying to find things with Tumblr's *definitely functional* in-blog search feature) mentioning something like a "writer-centric" or a "reader-centric" approach/view to fandom. I was wondering if you would have more in-depth definitions for what those are?
I think I have an idea of what the "writer-centric" view might be (basically 'people can write whatever they want'?), but I have zero ideas what the "reader-centric" view might be.
--
You see it in some of the media analysis about, e.g., "representation" in fanfic:
A lot of people will discuss fic as if it were mainstream media and talk about the needs of the reader for more stories of type X or Y. When X or Y doesn't exist, or isn't common enough, there's a strong sense of blame and that this is a big problem.
It's very BNF ~content creators~ in one box and ~the readers~ in another.
You'll also see this in discussions about tags and labeling where the focus is mostly on "staying safe" or even helping readers find what they want.
Now, yes, I do think that broad trends in what people like to write demonstrate broad societal forces, including bigotry. I essentially just said "Culture affects people". Such insight!
And tags do help readers find what they want...
But a writer-centric view is that labeling is more about aesthetic preference on the author's part. They may do different or more labeling because they want to more actively court readers, or they may pare things down because they find it more in line with their own ideas about how their fic should look.
And when it comes to subject matter, a writer-centric approach is to protect people's right to write whatever. Here, "representation" or justice or whatever is about letting the writer barf out the contents of their brain without getting their stuff deleted. If each writer has an equal shot at that, we're in good shape, ethically, regardless of what their output ends up being.
It's focusing on access to posting rather than access to a stream of media to consume.
--
It boils down to this:
Is fandom about a practice, a hobby that is available for anyone to do?
Or is it about the readers having another stream of media, perhaps a queer one that supplements the not-very-queer mainstream they have to put up with?
You can see why this comes up not only in fandom racism discussions but in every single wank about BL or femslash and how much of a duty we do or don't have to be "realistic", to represent queerness well, to represent specific queerness... There's often a big focus on "Well, but lots of people don't have access to any other queer media!" And... like... sorry? How is that my problem as a writer of fanfic?
--
It goes beyond just "write whatever" into questions of justice and access, but I think that the specific questions of justice and access some people have are disgusting perversions of what fandom is supposed to be and demonstrate that they're shitty leeches who should go find a hobby they actually enjoy practicing instead of shitting on other people's diary entries.

This weekâs writer spotlight feature is:Â dartlekey! @dartlekey has 11 fics in the Stranger Things Fandom and 9 of them are in the Steddie tag!.
Our anonymous nominator recommends the following works by @dartlekey:
If you were church (I'd get on my knees)
RUSH! (T4T REMIX)
At a medium pace
With great power
"I read the "with great power" series not long after I got into the Steddie fandom and was instantly like "I need to raid this author's other fics" and subscribed to them. No regrets for that choice!!" -- Anonymous
Below the cut, @dartlekey answered some questions about their writing process and some of their recommended work!
Why do you write Steddie?
For me, Steddie hits that sweet spot of strong characterization but woefully underexplored details, both for the individual characters but also their dynamic with each other in canon. That makes their relationship the ideal writer's sandbox - since they're both so fluid, you can explore the characters through each other, showcasing many different and even conflicting facets of each other while still retaining their original characters and behaviors. Either of them can be rich or poor, famous or an everyguy, Gay or Bisexual, Dom or Sub, Top or Bottom, Trans in any direction - the details are up to you!Â
Whatâs your favorite trope to READ?
I love a good slowburn friends-to-lovers fic. It needs to be a specific kind for me though - I'm not much one for prolonged pining, but I love it when the friendship is explored in such depth that the next step feels like an inevitability. Watching that deep platonic affection turn not-so-platonic, that's the good shit.Â
Whatâs your favorite trope to WRITE?
My specialty as a writer, I think, is crack treated seriously, or crack with a twist. Usually the first question that sparks one of my fics is âIf X happened, would that be hilarious or what?â and then the second is âBut if it was because of Y, would that be fucked up or what?â I think you can see it best in If you were church I'd get on my knees (what if Steve was a stripper at Eddie's stag party BUT it was actually a social commentary on queerness and sexuality in the face of religious oppression), but it's in At a medium pace too (what if Eddie couldn't move his arms because of injury so Steve âhasâ to jerk him off, but it's actually about how growing up queer can warp your perspective on healthy sexuality) , or even in Don't look back (What if Eddie had to dom Steve for plot reasons, but it's all body horror and trauma and spiraling codependency).Â
Whatâs your favorite Steddie fic?
I donât think I could name one all-time favorite, because what I enjoy most about fanfic is that different writers bring different character interpretations, storytelling styles and plot ideas to the table, which I find incomparable. I have enjoyed many of the well-known classics, of course (pukner I owe you my life--), but let me use this chance to give a shout-out to some less well-known masterpieces! My top three underrated fics are Three Days on the Red Planet by CaptainHoney/@grandmastattoo on tumblr (retro scifi, gritty but humorous hopepunk, every single fic of theirs is a certified banger but I love this one the most for some reason!!), Love dirty men alike by wrenowich (chef au, an ode to kitchen culture in all its griminess, I love a detailed backstory plus Steddie being wonderfully weird about each other), and Thatâs just wasteland, baby! by fastcardotmp3 (post-s4 apocalypse survival, sweet and aching and tired and yet hopeful, made me cry in the best way).Â
Is there a trope youâre excited to explore in a future work but havenât yet?
One that's pretty unique to the steddie fandom, or perhaps general stranger things fandom, is âif canon event x had happened differently/hadn't happened at all/had happened to a different person, how would the rest of canon change?â I still need to work out a lot of details in my head, so that's all I'll say for now, but it's something I'm very interested in exploring.
What is your writing process like?
Much to the horror of fic writers everywhere, I don't do first drafts, I just write out everything in detail, scene by scene in chronological order. I edit as I go, and consider the many-numbered, often unplanned writing breaks an important part of my process - when I let the written portion sit for a while and the unwritten ideas percolate in my brain for a bit, I often end up with new plot points or solutions for problems I've been having! And when that inspiration strikes, I can write anywhere - on the train, during lunch break at work, in the vegetable aisle of the grocery store⌠I have gdocs on my phone and I use it liberally; I'd say I write at least 80% of any given fic on my phone.Â
Do you have any writing quirks?
Apart from the hot mess I just described, I'd say it's that I never use Beta readers. I'll occasionally ask friends to help with specific details if I need an expert on certain subject matter, but I've found I get very grumpy and fussy if someone pokes at my plot (even if or rather especially if theyâre right lol), and I don't want to subject anyone to that.Â
Do you prefer posting when youâve finished writing or on a schedule?
For oneshots or series comprised of single-chapter fics I like posting as soon as I'm done, but for multi-chapter works I've recently found that starting to post only after I've finished most (if not all) chapters beforehand improves the quality of the story! Since I tend to integrate new ideas or shift around plot points a lot while writing, I often end up in completely different places than my original concept, so if an early chapter isn't posted yet I can retroactively edit it to add foreshadowing or tone-match the end of the work, remove loose threads and suchlike. Don't look back is a good example of how this has worked out for me; comparatively It don't bite (Yes it do) - which I wrote and posted chapter by chapter - is tonally all over the place.Â
Which fic are you most proud of?
Naturally I love all my babies, but I consider Don't look back my magnum opus - both because it is the longest fic I've ever written (13 chapters and 90.000 words in total, that's practically a novel!) and because it's the most plot-rich, labor-intensive, and overall serious in tone. I even worked in subplots about the rest of the cast, so it almost reads like its own season. I wrote it for last year's Steddie Bigbang, which means there's also a gorgeous accompanying artwork by @the-chilly-kat.Â
How did you get the idea for With great power?
At the time I'd seen a few marvel AUs floating past me on the tumblr timeline, usually with Steve as Spiderman and Eddie as the human component of Venom, and having just recently seen the Venom movie depicting the rich relationship between Eddie Brock and the symbiote, it surprised me that most left the symbiote as its own character, and not substituted one of the ST main cast. The symbiotic relationship of Stobin immediately came to mind, though I also still loved the idea of Steve as Spidey - then I remembered that in the Toby McGuire movies, the two are not mutually exclusive, and it all spiraled from there. Eddie as Deadpool just made sense - immortal wild-card with a dubious moral code but a heart of gold? Obviously! Plus Spideypool is, of course, a classic ship.Â
When writing With great power, what was something you didnât expect?
I actually got several curious comments about the sex toy Steve uses in Because the night - a grindable or grinder, which is a flat-ish silicone structure, usually ribbed in an interesting way, that one can grind against to get off (as the name suggests). I thought it was pretty common, but apparently it's not very well known!
What inspired  RUSH! (T4T REMIX)?
Oh, it's my time to gush! Because the idea for the first work actually came about from a late night conversation I had with the beautiful, amazing, wonderful @maikaartwork, back when we were, how should I say, in the courting stage? Seeing as we met through the Steddie fandom, I decided to write Baby Said basically to seduce them - and I am happy to say it worked, as we've been dating for over eight months now and are planning to move in together next year! Both works from RUSH! - T4T REMIX (and the secret new WIP, shh) are thus somewhat inspired by our conversations and our t4t relationship, but also by the many interesting and different trans people I've met over the years, and trans solidarity and relationships in general.
What was your favorite part to write from At a medium pace?
The small-talk in between position changes - no, really! I love a mindless marathon-fuck story as much as the next person, but there's something very sweet and intimate about those little breaks in sex, the pass the lube, move your leg a bit, what's for dinner later of it all. That's where you see that emotional connection - there's no admission of crushes or big love confessions in this fic because it's right there in the details.
How do/did you feel writing RUSH! (T4T REMIX)?
Honestly, it's just really really fun and self-indulgent. The Steddie dynamic in it is so bitchy, all the bickering makes me laugh even as I'm writing it. It's also just really fun to write about the trans experience in a way that is curious and loving, and reflects all the very different and yet similar ways people experience living in a body that defies expectation. I've loved all my fellow trans people sounding off in the comments about their own transition experiences, it's wonderful to have such a fantastic community!
What was the most difficult part of writing If you were church (I'd get on my knees)?
Curiously enough, not the many religious trauma bits! Much like Eddie in the fic, I'm only church-freak adjacent - I grew up in a non-religious household but with extended family that were extremely catholic, so the odd juxtaposition of being occasionally close to but definitely not involved in what is pretty much cult behavior inspired much of this fic. The most functionally difficult part to write was actually the wedding - as an aro-spec & trans relationship anarchist, church weddings have never been relevant to me, so I had very little idea what actually goes into one! Very little of the research I conducted on the topic actually made it into the fic, but hey, the more you know.Â
Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?
People keep asking me that, and I never know what to answer! If I had to pick one, though, maybe the last few paragraphs of Don't look back - where you can see the tragedy coming, but there's no way of stopping it, because it was always going to end this way. And then Eddie's last words before the end of the fic call back to the title as well as the general theme of the fic - it just all comes together for such a crescendo of an ending.Â
Do you have any upcoming projects or fics youâd like to share/promote?
Yes, actually! Coming soon in the SteddieBang'24, me and my lovely artist @hawkinsleather have been working hard on a 20k post-s4 fic called A glimpse of your canvas, which is about closeted transfemme!Eddie, women's solidarity, and Steve's very confusing no-good trip to the gay bar. Both With great power and RUSH! (T4T REMIX) have another WIP pending which I'll eventually finish (I promise, I'm just easily distracted!!), and for those who are still mad about Don't look backâs open ending, I'm almost done with the sequel, which features a lot of bad decisions by all characters involved, the healing power of community, and a bit of accidental child acquisition.Â
Outside of these questions, Is there anything YOU would like to add?
Given the chance of this platform, I would like to notify my readers that I'm a terrible procrastinator when it comes to replying to comments, but I read and cherish every one of them - and repeat commenters, I see you, I love you, I am chewing on your arm like a dog with a bone!! I would also like to thank the steddie fandom in general for giving me the hottest partner known to man or God, and for the many friendships I've been so fortunate to build here. Talk about transformative works, am I right? <3Â

Read Blood of the Wardens (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/story/376555223-blood-of-the-wardens?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_myworks&wp_uname=beepbeepmfkrÂ
âHumanity seeks protection against the Chimeran scourge.Â
Or at least, that's what the Homeland tells him.
And for twenty four years, Aiko Colony-Born has accepted that fact without question or hesitation.
But now that childhood Indoctrination training has ended, and his status as a rare Colony-Born amongst the Homeland military caste has earned him the laughable first assignment of liaison to a faraway mining colony, Aiko find himself struggling to keep his resentment contained.
In Sector Nine, childhood friends Veera and Kent find their worlds upended. Twin Mercenaries are on the attack. And what's more, the weight of their bloodlines seeks to wedge them irreparably far apart. Shattering the only moors they'd known since youth; leaving them scattered and alone.
Humanity seeks protection against the Chimeran scourge.Â
But is that even true?
Has it ever been?â
Read the prologue of my original fic âBlood of the Wardensâ on Wattpad!
Blood of the Wardens is a Queer, blended sci fi & fantasy story that touches on colonialism, fascism, nationalism, and culture in an attempt to ask âwhat does it really mean to be human?â
I have part 1 mostly done, so Iâll be editing and posting it slowly over the next few days or so. Part 2 will be started during Novella November which is the NaNoWriMo alternative started by @novella-november !

you have also read heir to the house of prince? Do you like it, how far are you? How did you find it?
Omg I didnât see this ask until just now cuz Iâm dumb and donât know how tumblr works-
Anyways yes Iâve read Heir to the House of Prince, it is my all time favorite fic honestly!!! Iâve gotten a lot of my personal headcanons from that fic actually!!!
I will say itâs a long read, and you probably wonât like it if you donât like OOC stuff- at least I think itâs OOC? Honestly Iâm always unsure when people call things out of character since to me it doesnât matter as long as there was like story as to why? Idk
Anyways Iâm assuming this was asked when I mentioned rereading it earlier in the month and I only ended up rereading the first part. I have read up to the most recent update before tho, it was simply for fun.
Anyways enjoy me ranting:
I love how it delves further into being the wizarding worlds reaction to being queer, the idea of consent when it comes to magic, politics within the wizarding world, and the acceptance of being a creature and how just discrimination in general works in the wizarding world. Thereâs just so much depth in this story that I canât fully articulate how much I adore it. There was just so much thought and feeling and planning that must have been involved. I wish there was more people who talk about it online or even make spin off/inspired fanfic about because GOD is it so good to me.
I love how the writer, elph13, has imagined each character and the backstory for their house/culture. I think thatâs probably one of the strongest parts about this fic, is every character being a part of something greater in the world, and itâs just u g h AND THE SNUPIN. THE SNUPIN. GOD. Every 5 seconds I am giggling and kicking my feet or holding in silent screams reading this fic.
Sorry not sorry abt the rant :,)

Queer Book Recommendations!!
I haven't really read a book book in years. Due to money problems and a lack of free time, audiobooks and AO3 were a MUCH cheaper option for me. But now that I'm struggling to fully read text posts on Tumblr I realize my attention span is shot. Reading novels is helping me tune out and focus in again. So I'm turning to queer novels written by my 'queer elders'.
For anyone who is struggling to get back into long form content after reading Fic for years, I highly recommend the books of TJ KLUNE (summaries of what I've read under the break).
If you are a fan of the 'escaping a shitty life and being welcomed into a found family' fanworks, this is the writer for you! All his stories center on home and feeling welcomed and loved. Of middle age and finding out who you are. Of finding love for others and yourself. He makes you hunger for that type of romantic and platonic love where people just know the real you. His stories also float by so quickly, there are so many things he does that I want to emulate his writing into my work.
Someone on Tumblr described the romances as: âwhat if a real life disney prince fell in love with the human equivalent of a wet paper bag?â and I agree 100%. All his protagonists are just like that, and I love them all.
(Also, this man definitely had an office job he hated, and writes office work culture as a death sentence in every one of his novels and I love it).
If you have any queer novels you love, don't be afraid to leave me a recommendation! (Especially WLW that isn't 'One Last Stop')
HAVE READ: The House in the Cerulean Sea : [An amazing love fantastical found family story (with a hint of romance)! I listened to the audiobook on Audible and absolutely loved it! I can't wait for the sequel coming out next year.]
Linus Baker is a lonely case worker for a governmental organization which manages orphaned kids who are magical beings.
One day, he's given a secret assignment to assess a special orphanage on the island of Marsyas, run by a man named Arthur Parnassus, who has secrets of his own. Among the six unique children living there, one of them is Lucy, short for Lucifer, who just happens to be the Antichrist.
Despite his initial reservations, as Linus's days pass in Marsyas, in this idyllic setting among a coterie of magical children, Linus finds himself coming across a little romance, an unlikely family and possibly even a home.
Currently Reading: Under the Whispering Door. [I know this is going to be heartbreaking, but I'm loving it, only on page 50/373. Will likely post something vague about how it made me cry lol]
When a reaper comes to collect Wallace Price from his own funeral, Wallace suspects he really might be dead.
Instead of leading him directly to the afterlife, the reaper takes him to a small village. On the outskirts, off the path through the woods, tucked between mountains, is a particular tea shop, run by a man named Hugo. Hugo is the tea shop's owner to locals and the ferryman to souls who need to cross over.
But Wallace isn't ready to abandon the life he barely lived. With Hugo's help, he finally starts to learn about all the things he missed in life.
When the Manager, a curious and powerful being, arrives at the tea shop and gives Wallace one week to cross over, Wallace sets about living a lifetime in seven days.
Planning on reading: In The Lives of Puppets(The book is on my shelf).
In a strange little home built into the branches of a grove of trees, live three robotsâfatherly inventor android Giovanni Lawson, a pleasantly sadistic nurse machine, and a small vacuum desperate for love and attention. Victor Lawson, a human, lives there too. Theyâre a family, hidden and safe.
The day Vic salvages and repairs an unfamiliar android labelled âHAP,â he learns of a shared dark past between Hap and Gioâa past spent hunting humans.
When Hap unwittingly alerts robots from Gioâs former life to their whereabouts, the family is no longer hidden and safe. Gio is captured and taken back to his old laboratory in the City of Electric Dreams. So together, the rest of Vicâs assembled family must journey across an unforgiving and otherworldly country to rescue Gio from decommission, or worse, reprogramming.
Along the way to save Gio, amid conflicted feelings of betrayal and affection for Hap, Vic must decide for himself: Can he accept love with strings attached?
#They are utter delights#dont be surprised if my next long Izzy fic is inspired by 'under the whispering door' lol#Under the Whispering Door#The House in the Cerulean Sea#tj klune#Sometimes I just want to read a sweet queer love story with people older than 20 god damn it
