Everytime I see a post about people trying to figure out someone's sexuality or telling that famous people need to be forced to come out in order for them to play queer characters, I remember Miss Singh and her amazing words of wisdom in the @heartstoppercomic

One of the more surreal moments of my life was when I was on a zoom call with now an ex friend of mine who is straight explaining to her why straight pride doesn't exist, because she thought it was unfair, through the zoom chat because I couldn't say any of it aloud in fear that my homophobic family would hear me and I would end up in trouble or worse.

Living in my little bubble, surrounded by wonderful queer, left-leaning friends and allies, it's easy to believe that the world is progressing toward a more inclusive and understanding future. Within this sphere, love is celebrated in all its forms, acceptance is (almost always) a given, and societal advancement feels like a tangible reality.

But recently, I stumbled across something that shattered this comforting illusion I was trapped in—a surge of young, right-wing extremist voices emerging here, in Portugal. Yes, you read that right. Portugal. The very country people think it's pacific and everyone is vibing and "CRISTIANO RONALDO" and "FOOTBALL" and "WHORES AND WINE" and what not.

I was browsing through the depths of social media when I came across a series of podcasts led by disturbingly young and fervent right-wing kids. Legit kids. These aren't fringe, obscure channels, but rather platforms that are gaining alarming popularity among teenagers and young adults and what they say is...is simply absurd. Their messages are a chilling echo of the far-right rhetoric we’ve seen spreading across Europe like wildfire. They are just, what, 19 year olds spitting ideas from our dictator 50 years ago? There's literally a girl saying women are born to be at home and raise kids. A GIRL.

And it’s not just Portugal. Look at bloody France, for crying out loud. Across Europe, there's a disturbing trend of young people being drawn to extremist ideologies. Countries once celebrated for their progressive values are now grappling with a resurgence of nationalism, xenophobia, homophobia, and ultra-conservative agendas. The rise of far-right parties in countries like bloody Germany. Fucking Germany. Germany. Someone fucking slap me.

For a long time, I believed that each generation since around, idk, after WWII, was stepping forward, breaking down barriers and forging a more equitable society. But these young podcasters are a stark reminder that we are not all moving forward together. Instead, it seems that for every step forward, there are forces pulling us ten steps back.

It's easy to feel insulated when everyone around you shares your values. The idea that young people—the supposed torchbearers of future progress—are espousing such regressive views is not just disheartening; it's terrifying.

Cause, yes. I'll confess. Since the last presidential election here in Portugal (2020, I believe? Fuck me, I don't know politics, I'm just ranting alright?), the guy running for the extremist right got 3rd place with a really small difference from the woman in second place and I thought "There we go. The old uneducated folk trying to fuck this up. Fucking Salazarists. Just fucking die already." but little did I know a lot of his votes and one of the reasons why that party is now the 3rd strongest force in the Portuguese Assembly it's because of people my fucking age. Or even younger than me. People that grew up with information on their fucking fingertips.

If we want to truly advance as a society, we need to understand why these ideologies are taking root and work tirelessly to counteract them. The bubble of comfort and progress we live in is not representative of the world at large. And if we want to protect and expand the values we hold dear, we need to step out of our bubbles and confront the darkness creeping in at the edges.

I cannot express just how much Alice Oseman’s works mean to me. The sense of community I feel by not only watching Heartstopper and reading their other novels, but also by engaging in conversation with others about it and seeing everyone’s reactions is simply unreal.

i really need to vague post here.

im not simply mad at op frankly op didn't give any context to the flag so op didnt out anyone, im fucking pissed off at the people in the tags and comments.

there's a closeted flag gaining legitimacy and this makes me happy.

what doesnt make me happy is people taking pictures of the flag outside someones house and posting it online (yes even this site has biggots and shit leaks out of tumblr all the time)

Part of having a community with down low subtle signs is that we keep it on the down low To Protect People especially those who are not yet ready to comeout to the wider public but may need support financial or otherwise.

closeted type signs spread through people in the community vetting others for sometimes even a couple years and then we tell them, verbally, one on one.

we don't out people. that's not kind. we dont post pictures of closeted people's houses online. we dont make a spectical of the closeted person because that shoves them out into the open when we promised them safety. not everyone lives in a safe enviroment.

if you see a closeted flag, no the fuck you didnt.

if you see someone who isnt open about being queer but has a queer dresscode symbol? no you fucking didnt. if you feel the need to prove how deep and knowlegeablle of the community you are then please for the love of fuck shut up for a second and consider why a person would be wearing something subtle? coming out to every person you meet IS annoying but that doesn't give you the go ahead to do that for them and talk to your other queer or ally coworkers about the person you guys think is a bit "snazzy" just because they're '''safe'''. let people lead their own lives and come out on their own terms.

if you are a closeted person please dont use a closeted flag, our community is too chronically online to have any basice fucking decency towards you. outsiders may clock you and if you're in the closet for safety then you understand. im sorry.

i don't think the people who did this are like.. evil irredeemable monsters or anything. people sometimes forget why the community exists -and see these flags as new colourful aesthetics that mean little to nothing but something for a corporation to paint on a piece of merch.

Today my mother told us that she considered coming out something vulgar, and that people should keep their sexuality to themselves because no one in the family needs to know. So, I guess I won’t come out to my family as bisexual any time soon. Hope your day is going better than mine 😊

Everyone deserves a safe, warm place to stay, access to water and food and medical care. Those should be the most basic human rights.

Please help a homeless trans woman raise money for a new car!

Charlotte and her dog Priscilla live in her car, which was severely damaged by a transphobic man who was stalking her about 3 weeks ago. She had successfully raised money for a new car, but when that new car got stuck due to a minor issue, her stalker took the opportunity to systematically destroy it in order to try to punish and extort her. Now she is stuck in a very beat up car, which she has tried to repair with help from generous donations, but the damage is really extensive, and it is likely less money to just get a replacement used car. This is a shitty situation to keep going through but I hope that I can raise enough to help Charlotte with this. In total, $1500 to $2000 is enough to get a decent used car, so that’s what I’m aiming for. If 100 people send $15-$20 each, that is enough. Thank you for reading!

Is it just me, or don't you think that the home of phobic cis straight people should be the top sponsors of the research of homosexuality in the animal kingdom? shouldn't they be donating to said researches while screaming "IF YOU LIKE SCIENCE SO MUCH, THEN WE'LL GIVE YOU SCIENCE!!!". like if homosexuality is really so unnatural, then wouldn't it be nice for them to have some "rock solid proof"?

I think the fact that this isn't happening proves that the homophobes are afraid to be proven wrong, which leads to the conclusion that they themselves are not sure if they are correct!

Today I went to a trans congregation in my city. It was great to listen to other people and having half of us shitting on both the medical field and the local university.

Near the end, when we were going in a open mic round for whoever wanted to say anything, I took a few moments to thank everyone there for their help.

Having being trans for less than a year, the amount of love and help I've get is amazing. Id wish for everyone to have this type of company during their transition if I had the chance.
