And I do understand how people might not be all in when not everyone is Reclaiming the flag.  I can see why a trans lesbian might not be eager to stand below a flag still used by Terfs who want her dead.

I don’t want Terfs to have anything. But I also understand people having a knee jerk response to that flag.

It is a great flag but if it were The Lesbian Flag I firmly believe it would lead to more trouble.

So, first off, sorry for moving us to a new thread. That post is very long and has quite a few images at this point.

I try not to bring up my own identities in these kinds of discussions. I feel that it weakens my points, and if I can’t make them without needing to lean on my own identity as “proof” then I need to do better, rhetorically. That said, I’m aromantic. I run a few a-spec support blogs on the side. I know the shape and bredth of ace discourse on this website, and I have seen it evolve since its start in late 2011 to now, as a manifestation of radical feminist ideology.

So, for that reason, I feel more or less confident--albeit only speculatively--that fighting radical feminist indoctrination of lesbians by denying TERFs the right to keep stealing queer iconography would help disempower them from spreading their shit-tier ideology elsewhere.

All of their politics reinforce each other.

I have a horse in that race. And I still stand by my conclusions. And you are right to stand by yours as well. Your logic is sound. Your conclusion makes perfect sense. We both have the same set of premises, and we’ve both decided to prioritize different things.

That’s fine. It’s not like queer folx are a hive mind!

And really, in the end?

I don’t care if people ultimately settle on the 4 stripe sapphic flag, or on the labrys, or on anything at all. Well, I mean, my flag design enthusiast soul cares, but my queer activist brain is not fussed with the specifics, ultimately, of which flags gets the gold.

What I care about is recognizing that this entire fight over flags is a ploy to weaken solidarity between lesbians and the rest of the queer coalition, and radicalize lesbians into a reactionary, regressive force that can be used to attack anyone who is not part of that force. The obvious target is trans women, but asexual people too, bi people too, hell, lesbians that don’t adequately perform to separatist and sexual purity ideals even!

At this point, I think I let myself get too caught up in the old Special Interest Autism Brain Cookies, and lost track of my ultimate point as an activist.

It’s not about which flag wins.

It’s about making sure TERFs fucking lose.

- Roger as a Prefect. There was no other path for him, let’s be real. And while he is strictly against running in the hallways and using outside voices inside, he also uses his powers for good and advocates for students, especially his juniors. And as a Hufflepuff he does frequently avail himself of the kitchens (and grab a few things for friends from other houses.)- I was briefly considering rival Quidditch Seekers Kate and Etta, but then I realized that Etta is obviously the ANNOUNCER for the Quidditch games, who is doing this for extra credit and keeps digressing to talk about assorted Hogwarts lore, but whose (ahem) admiration for the Slytherin Seeker can be seen from space.Etta can’t in good conscience support Slytherin because their Beaters, Percy and Nora, are shady as heck, but that doesn’t mean she can’t cheer Kate on in the meantime.- Bertie comes from a line of Hufflepuffs as long as the history of Hogwarts itself, so he could not be more startled at his placement in Gryffindor. He has anxiety. He cried for half the train ride there. He’s not the least bit brave. It’s his new friend from the train, Etta, who points out to him that courage is being terrified, but doing the thing anyway. And he’s here, isn’t he?(She gives him a similar version of that speech when he’s selected as the Hogwarts Champion in the Triwizard Tournament.)

Thursday 1. A very cool little project was proposed at work today with very concrete results of helping people and I really! want it to happen! 2. My mother has downloaded Zoom and immediately planned a wine night with her barn friends and it's very cute. 3. Virtual drinks with coworkers after work because we're making this a weekly thing goddamnit. 4. Sort of a carry-over from 3, but I made myself very fancy gin and sodas, with mint and lime and raspberries. 5. Another early night! God I love sleep.

Friday 1. I woke up disgustingly early and was awake for a few hours but then managed to fall back asleep for two more hours. 2. Found out one of the local greenhouses does curbside pickup or delivery, so I ordered all my seeds and a couple plants and a grow light because the weather is not being cooperative, fuck you too, sun. 3. also ordered some cheap bluetooth headphones that should be identical to my current headphones only wireless, because if life is happening via video/audio chat for the next few months I want to be able to get up and move around while I'm talking to people. 4. More FMA watching with @queenofthecommunistcannibals and @theimpossumblepossum! 5. Made cold brew coffee which was a nice treat from past me when I opened the fridge this morning.

first off sorry about the irritation in my first reblog, have a bit of frustration on this debate with the friend of mine I reblogged from, not excusing myself but wanting you to know it wasn’t you.

Second since it was kind of a more reactive conversation I wanted to let you know my full position on this and I’m interested to hear yours since it seems we work from the same objective

My opinions toward Qu**r as a word is that it personally makes me uncomfortable, it was something I just kind of tolerated for the longest time but inclusionists who advocated against it pushed me to a firmer stance since it was really that I just didn’t have enough of a spine to argue against it, and quite a lot of people are still in that boat of personally having either discomfort or trauma attached to the slur but feeling coerced into using it or not speaking up because the word has become completely ubiquitous. It’s used academically, it’s used in pop culture and consequently it’s use by people outside of the community. and unlike gay it was arguably “reclaimed” but never really decoupled from it’s original meaning, IE gay has been used as an insult the last couple decades but it’s use as an insult has different negative connotations linguistically than it’s use as a slur. IE Gay used derogatory in recent times is just a way of saying “dumb” as opposed to it’s use as a slur, whereas while Qu**r has fallen in and out of usage it’s always meant fundamentally the same thing “weird, unusual, not normal” and while a lot of people find empowerment in claiming that a lot of us do not, so the fact that in legal, academic, etc settings the label is forced on us and apart from that we’re pressured to use it is a big problem, especially those of us who have experienced it being used as a slur by bigots with power over us, or who are unlikely to face consequences for anything they want to do to us.

I disagree with Lily Orchard’s video on the subject in one or two minor places but I’d suggest watching it to get an idea of how a lot of us just feel beaten down by it’s widespread condoned use, her as someone who’s been harrased for her distaste for it quite a lot.

 I do think we need a word with Qu**r’s linguistic function,, LGBT is great for reffering to us as a group with a lot of different experiences but their still is a shared [Qu**r for current lack of said word to demonstrate what I mean] experience and we need a word for that too. To build on what orchard says I just don’t want the clinical word to be the equivilant of what r*tard is for those of us that are autistic, LGBT+ needs a word that fills the same role as “Nuerodivergant”

A Good Officer by hoc_voluerunt Fandom: Les Misérables Rec: Look for it. Read it. Love it. It's a Les Misérables with Ace!Javert in a relationship with Valejan and it's THE fanfic I return to when I want to read ace relationship fluff. Just so you imagine my love for it, it includes POC!Javert, Les Amis+Cosette in a queer collective and coffee shop au. Enough said. I highly HIGHLY recommend the first part "I'm Your Savior"! The fic series also works extremely well on its own and has lots of action/ fun spy adventures, complex characters and found family sweetness! (226k, ongoing w/ 4 parts complete, graphic violence warning)

(Un)Broken by likethedirection Fandom: Supernatural Rec: Most Supernatural acefic is feel-good and fluffy; maybe it was a weak moment, but this one was so feel-good, it almost made me cry. (5k, complete)

Alien Romance by Skye Fandom: Choushinsei Flashman Rec: I would never have read this work if I didn’t know the author since I only have so much tolerance for 80′s sentai, but I am so glad that I did. It’s just the right distance from gender roles, and it has a perfect build up to resolution. (8k, complete)

All Your Sickness I Will Suck It Up by indevan Fandom: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Rec: (34k, complete, deals with eating disorders/mental health issues)

run, run, fast as you-- (orphaned work) Fandom: Welcome to Night Vale Rec: Just yesterday i was thinking about how much i love this fic and how Carlos' story seems to actually reflect the experiences ace gay men, particularly the high school part (105k, complete, tw: stalking, domestic violence, threats of rape and suicide, general wtnv horror)

Something Like This by emmagrant01 Fandom: Check Please! Rec: This is a great omgcp fic with a demisexual protagonist. Unlike a lot of fics with demi characters, though, this fic really gets into what it means and really feels real and believable. (285k, complete, mentions the 2016 Orlando shooting)

Fresh by WhatWouldLilyDo Fandom: Check Please! Rec: This fic has a good gray-A subplot. (91k, complete)    

If you want to kiss the sky by seigeofangels Fandom: Stargate Atlantis Rec: This fic is almost painful to read. In the best traditions of speculative fiction, it is an AU that is incredibly far removed from out world, yet an eerie mirror because of it. (8k, complete)

Dolce Domum by busaikko Fandom: Stargate Atlantis Rec: Because found family is such a strong theme of Stargate Atlantis, this is one of three fics that delve into a poly relationship involving an ace (along with everything you want (you can have) by melonbutterfly and The Complexity of Daily Life by Teaphile, which are both also excellent). I like this one the most, though, for how lacking in drama it is. Sometimes you really can just have an honest conversation with the people who are important to you, and it’s fine. (3k, complete)

In My Way by INeverHadMyInternetPhase Fandom: Phandom (Dan and Phil) Rec: Amazing ace fic, it was the first time I saw representation that acknowledged me, and I actually ended up in the best qpr with the author. She is wonderful and just moved to my city. But 10/10 rec this fic. It’s AU so you don’t really need to know the fandom. It’s just a wonderful exploration of asexuality and navigating relationships/boundaries. (129k, incomplete)

There’s a skyline in Oklahoma by spurious Fandom: Johnny’s Entertainment Rec: I like the realistic tone of this fic. It’s not easy for anyone, and people make questionable decisions; their lives change. Their lives--and the ace character’s asexuality--just are. And they find a way to live at peace with themselves. (10k, complete)

Insomnia by kihadu Fandom: Dragon Age II Rec: The ace character is a supporting character but features prominently and aceness is addressed. (9k, complete)

Moving Forward by kihadu Fandom: Dragon Age II Rec: The main character dealing with his asexuality. Written by an author who is asexual themself. (4k, complete)

Like Air Series by JRosemary Fandom: White Collar Rec: White Collar is a show that doesn’t know what asexuality is but somehow has a main character with just enough asexual subtext to be plausible. This fic is really good for how it picks that apart, although you can also tell that this was one of the first fandoms to have any acefic to speak of. (6k, complete)

Little Ordinary Things by Ingu Fandom: The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) Rec: I like the ambiguity of this fic. There’s some really good discussion in the comments about it, too. (5k complete)

yo yo yo I love your drawings and I’ve finished the series but I’m not v good at paying attention to *absolutely everything* and I’m sorry if this is dumb but Jacobi’s metal arm is a headcanon, yes?

hey nonny, no worries, i listened to everything at least twice and i still miss things. so yes, the robo arm is not canon but has been around in fandom a long time i feel like? (if anyone knows the origin, feel free to chime in!)  personally, a lot of my headcanons are also heavily influenced by @queenofthecommunistcannibals fic, i HIGHLY recommend “I’m your Saviour”, it has a really cool origin story of the arm (and the twins in general).
