Finally I can post this.

I participated in another artist telephone event in the Russian Wizard Of Oz/Emerald City community, and, well, here's my piece! I liked improvising the designs, that was fun.

Happy Pride from accidental trans girl Princess Ozma! Her gender reveal and transition scenes in The Marvelous Land of Oz were depicted surprisingly progressively considering they were written by a presumed cishet man in 1904 🏳️‍⚧️

Gotta hand it to L Frank Baum. Fella was like “I wanna write a proper, home-grown, American fairy tale!”

And then proceeded to create a protagonist with so much TGirl Girlboss Lesbian Communist Swag that every adaptation since has needed to make someone else the protagonist, relegating Ozma of Oz to the most background of roles.

I almost hate to bring up the part where the being a boy was because of a magic spell to hide her as a baby from the Evil Witches, because, y'know, this is a better story.

Pomni is Dorothy Gale

Ragatha is Scarecrow

Jax is Tin Man

Gangle is the Cowardly Lion

Gummigoo is Toto

Kaufmo is the Wicked Witch of The East

Kinger is the Mayor of Munchkin land

Zooble is Princess Langwidere/Mombi (specifically the version of Mombi in Disney's Return to Oz who is based on and a combination of both)

The Gloink Queen is the Wicked Witch of The West

The Gloinks are the winged monkeys

Caine is the titular Wizard of Oz

Bubble is Glinda The Good Witch

Princess Loolilalu is Princess Ozma

The Fudge is the Nome King

For some of these I'm obviously stretching. If you can come up with better ideas for this please do so. If you don't recognize a Oz character's name assume there only in the Land of Oz book series and not in the Mgm Wizard of Oz movie. Also please watch Disney's Return to Oz.

i just think kansas girl dorothy gale with her dirty scraped-up knees and her scuffed old shoes and her hair falling out of its braids...cheeks freckled from too long in the sun...nose always scrunched up like she's thinking or maybe about to sock you...dorothy with her patched-up clothes...dorothy who all the animals love...dorothy with the gap between her front teeth and spitfire to rival the bravest soldier this girl who fell into oz and saved it once and stumbles her way back and right into ozma's life and ozma who has only heard about her secondhand from dorothy's friends who dearly miss her and from the whispers of how she saved munchkinland and wished herself away, looks at her and goes hot damn. you know.

Did the fairy queen Lurline create Oz in your Disneyverse?

Ah, a good question. If I'm remembering my Oz right Luraline and her fairy band discover OZ as a barren or at least magicless country and decided to settle there for a while, leaving behind one of their number to become the first ruler of Oz?

I think that could fit in quite well within the DisneyVerse. Luraline could be a fairy from the Everrealm who discovers a pocket dimension coming into being between the Everrealm and Our World and decides to go in and explore/populate it/give it a magical help along, and she maybe had a child with one of the native inhabitants there and thus began the Oz dynasty that would eventually lead down to Glinda and Ozma.
