Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) recently projected strong AI-driven demand that is expected to persist for ‘many years,’ in a report from yahoo finance. My WordAds Experience (Q2)
See the previous post in this series. Earlier this year I made the decision to upgrade my WordPress account from a free to a paid plan. A big part of my decision was being able to monetize the site. I have tried my hand at affiliate marketing but have not had any success so far. In the previous post, I detailed the costs of the upgrade and the discounts that I was able to apply to my purchase.…

AEW Quarterly vs WWE 2023
Tumblr media
I know a lot of "Wrestling" (And I use that word loosely) Dweebs Online care about this bullshit. Quite frankly, it's whatever, really. Because the reality is, these tv numbers don't matter to begin with. No one watches Cable tv these days. Especially live Cable tv. If they do, it's through Online apps like Hulu, and Peacock and such.
Cable is a dying dinosaur at this point, and being kept alive by baby boomers and maybe 55+ year old Gen-Xers (I get to say this because I ain't 50 yet!).
But the more you look at it, the more you see exactly what the AEW situation is: It really is Tony's Wrestling Toy Collection show. He's bleeding his daddy's allowance money. He's not making it back. I think I read somewhere AEW is at the most worth $100 Million. That ain't diddly shit these days.
Freaking A man. That's all I can say about this. I just hope that the checks the guys are getting is good and worth it. Because I guarantee you when this ship sinks, most of them will be begging to go back to WWE... well all except maybe Mox who is brain damaged if you ask me. He'll probably go back to Backyard Death matches for free.

By far the worst thing that will ever come from me deciding to go full-time Freelance is the fact that I have to somehow survive and try to figure out how taxes work. I didn't got to high school, y'all, and by the time I was in college I was 22 and supposed to know how it all worked. I am doing my best.
(This is a warning. If an Adult(tm) in your life offers to teach you the truth behind taxes then please dear God listen to them.)

I love the fact that I can work as hard as I can manage with a broken tooth and a dying tooth (one on each side, I've been chewing on the cavity for a year) and I still cannot save even $10 towards getting dental treatment (2 impacted wisdom teeth, + tooth broken off under the gum, + bad cavity) because I barely make enough to cover my food and board and the insane energy bill

#I'm just ranting don't mind me it's fine I am continuing to exist as usual I may delete this later bc it's a bit of a bummer to read#I prefer to keep my blogging to fun or otherwise nonserious content because it's supposed to be for decompression no real world drama here#I got into a 3 hour body language study and earned $50 so I spent that as fun money on a couple games during the Steam sale just to#take a break from the constant cycle of getting paid and then immediately saying goodbye to all but about 15 cents#(well it was 1 game Slime Rancher 2 and then 2 expansion packs one for Planet Zoo and another for Cities Skylines long play hours mileage)#I've tried to budget to buy small things like a fan or a toothbrush maybe (mine is 8yrs old and doesn't charge sometimes) but NOPE#let alone stashing away over $2000 for the amount of treatment I need given tooth extractions are $200-$500 each#I use about $50 of groceries a week ($30 USD) sometimes up to $80 if I need to buy some extra toiletries or bonuses like ham/falafel/bread#our last quarterly power bill was $1900 FOR NO REASON even for a winter one#olessan oration#the work I have is HIT/mturk type work which pays amazingly well and I am so grateful because I can't work in a traditional environment due#my inability to sleep/wake on anyone else's schedule and need for engaging work but it also means each worker is basically a contract worke#picking their own hours which is VERY HARD to stick to for me since I may also have ADHD-i but that diagnosis also costs like $2000 in Aus#so I'm doing my best fucking lmao#I have a set minimum hours I want to keep up to and move to full time but I am so exhausted by the constant background noise of#the tooth problems that I burn out very quickly#like the tooth ache isn't that bad#the tooth is actively dying but the pain isn't unbearable it just shits me off at all times#it's bearable most of the time and doesn't affect my sleep unless the temp is cold or something#it's been bad this week tho so I've gone through almost all my ibuprofen managing it#the tooth that broke off broke off earlier in the year and the gum has mostly healed over and the dead root is concealed inside my gums now#that stopped being painful in mid 2021 but when it died it was pretty bad it did stop me sleeping for a couple weeks#Christmas 2021 involved me contemplating ripping the tooth out myself lmao#the nerve eventually died seemingly without an abscess#unless I DID have an abscess but that seems extremely unlikely because abscesses are SEVERE AND HORRIBLE AND LIFE THREATENING#sometimes I can feel the tooth ligament wiggling on its own or I like flex it by accident it's so weird bc the tooth is gone so#the ligament is still holding onto the root but with way less weight#anyway I am eating my mac n cheese n veg with the side that has the missing tooth because the cavity tooth has a big bruise along the gumli#gumline which may be from overzealous brushing (I fill the tooth will temporarily filling putty and it needs to be cleaned well when the#putty falls out)

$169.3 BILLION profit... that means that after ALL business costs have been paid, Walmart brought in $169.3 BILLION to keep...
What do they do with all the money?
While their floor associates (almost 50%) are on food stamps?

Buy one of their shares!!!
The reason the business press is so fucked up is because virtually no one has any information about a business except the business itself. If you’re reporting on a city government, you can look at their public records, attend council meetings, file requests for information, schedule meetings with city employees. Businesses aren’t obligated to give you any of that, because they aren’t intended to be accountable to the public, they’re only accountable to their owners and shareholders.
If you want information on a business any more detailed than what’s in their annual reports (and many smaller companies don’t even issue those publicly), you have to just ask them. And they aren’t obligated to tell you the truth or even to give you anything, so all statements they do make are carefully manicured by public relations staffers to include all of the good and exclude all of the bad. As a business reporter, your options are
Report exactly what the business is saying, without any skepticism (easy, widely-accepted, guarantees that they’ll talk to you again in the future)
Develop a robust network of sources within the business who can leak to you (very hard, often unrewarding, dangerous for staffers acting as sources)
Cover what the business is saying skeptically and point out when they’re being dishonest (risks pushback, loses you access to talking to the business again in the future)
When you’re a business journalist on deadline to write 2-3 stories a day, which are you going to do

wait so how did you get a "boring" office job? did you have to go to college or did you just apply for basic stuff and work your way up from there?
it was 100% through connections.
i mean, i actually GOT the job and have been able to KEEP the job because i'm smart and capable and good at doing things and have made the company a lot of money, but if i didn't know the right people i would not have even had a chance at it, and it would be disingenuous of me to pretend otherwise.
most of the moment-to-moment skills i use for clerical work (the majority of my job) i gained in highschool through my fascination with computers + all of the programming and software classes i took.
the business and accounting classes i took in university primed me for a basic understanding of how to run a company (or at least how to manage one, as my exact title is "Business Manager"), and all of my anthropology and sociology studies have given me a pretty keen insight for communication, which comes in major handy in a corporate setting. i was able to latch onto Corpo Speak pretty quickly, which has proven to be an indispensable skill (if a bit soul-sucking to utilize).
i got this job after receiving 0 work or callbacks from Indeed after applying to dozens of jobs over several months, which is a very difficult idea to reconcile with for me. i feel like im pretty capable, but apparently people whose job it is to give other people jobs don't agree. in spite of this, in 2 years ive generated hundreds of thousands of dollars of revenue for the company that decided to hire me because the owner saw me down on my luck and wanted to give me a break.
so i have to wonder, are we stupid, or are the companies stupid?
it's the companies. ive seen it firsthand. with this job, i go to business events and meet some of the most gullible people ive ever come across, and they're all CEOs.
they're so ravenously shortsighted with regards to their quarterly profit margins that they'd chase a 5 dollar bill the wind blew off a cliff for their shareholders. or more accurately, they'd push one of their minimum wage workers off the cliff to grab it.
because of that shortsightedness, conditions are getting worse, employment terms are becoming shorter, companies are shuttering left and right, pays are stagnant or lowering, and the growing number of people this inhuman greed affects are becoming more and more restless.
if you can't get a job in 2024, there's a very good chance it's not your fault. you shouldn't give up (unfortunately for now we still need to earn money to live in society), but try not to forget that.

The thing is the fact that there isn't a fucking original idea in the bunch is exactly why the strike are and have happened. The studios are paying billions of dollars for shit that's going to fail half the time and then punishing writers and actors for not being able to make shit sing.
Art is not a profit margin game. it is meant for the stock market. It is art. Even the schlocky, campy art is still blood, sweat and glorious tears.
And even the jaw-dropping manna from heaven still might fail
because it done for love, not money.

Fuck AMPTP and the bullshit going on. I'm tired, might not do this well:
Tumblr media
(link to article in above picture) From The Article
Receiving positive feedback from Wall Street since the WGA went on strike May 2, Warner Bros Discovery, Apple, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Paramount and others have become determined to “break the WGA,” as one studio exec blatantly put it.
To do so, the studios and the AMPTP believe that by October most writers will be running out of money after five months on the picket lines and no work.
“The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses,” a studio executive told Deadline. Acknowledging the cold-as-ice approach, several other sources reiterated the statement. One insider called it “a cruel but necessary evil.”
The studios and streamers’ next think financially strapped writers would go to WGA leadership and demand they restart talks before what could be a very cold Christmas. In that context, the studios and streamers feel they would be in a position to dictate most of the terms of any possible deal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image IDs: Twitter thread by David Slack posted July 12th, 2023 that reads in totality:
And right on cue, here’s the inevitable Deadline article claiming that the AMPTP and their CEO bosses are ready to wait us out and let us “go broke.”
They’re not. They can’t. This studio propaganda, and here’s why.
In the increasingly mega-merged and hedgefundified Hollywood, these companies live or die on their quarterly earnings reports. It only takes one bad quarter for their stock price to plunge, putting the company and the CEO’s job in jeopardy.
But their stock prices are holding steady, right? Right. For now. Because our industry is a pipeline that starts with writers. The TV and movies they’re releasing now are shows we started making for them 4-12 quarters ago. But what happens when that pipeline runs dry?
What happens is they run out of product. No new shows in streaming to drive and sustain subscribers. No new shows in broadcast and ad-supported to bring in ad revenue.
No shows, no money.
No money, bad earnings report.
Bad earnings report, bye-bye stock price. Bye-bye CEO.
After 70+ days with no writers to create their product for them, the pipeline is running dry.
Their stock price isn’t tanking yet. But if they don’t make a deal with us, it will.
And they know it.
If they make a deal soon, they might be able to weather it. Stretch out releases. Rush some new stuff through.
But the longer they keep us out, the longer that pipeline runs dry, the more unavoidable a catastrophic dip in new high-quality shows becomes.
And they know it.
So yeah, the studios are planting articles in the trades that make it sound like they’re so determined not to pay us the 0.02% of company revenues we’re asking for that they’re willing to hold out forever.
Bullshit.
I’m sure the AMPTP bosses would love to break our union. But they love their jobs more. They love money more. They can’t make that money without us.
And they know it.
Ignore the trades, walk the line, stand together, and win. #WGAStrong

I was trying to be cool and professional about this strike, but this AMPTP “we want to drive them to homelessness” shit means I’m going to be dug in at WB Gate 4 like Hiroo Onada. They’re gonna have to send @ellenstutzman with a bullhorn to order me out of the bushes.
