Quar!

When I was a teen, my folks took me to a wargaming convention and there was this booth for a smaller company called Zombiesmith. I loved the books and art for the Quar line, picked up some, the signed rulebooks, and sat on them for over a decade.

Now, with the recent Wargames Atlantic collaboration? Acquisition? Whatever, Quar is something I've seen around on the 'net recently. So, I've dug out my old Coftyrans and given them a modern coat of paint. Here's a Rhyfler

Y’all… I think I really like Quar. Once the starter box gets here and I get the little guys painted up, I’m gonna post some battle reports and talk about the game a bit.

How can you not be charmed by these little anteater guys? I mean, look at those snouts, and the sad little way they look to the ground. Just gotta get some games and feel it out!

This Quar's tank

I've started a tank for the Quar's War. It's mostly done already, but it still needs that flower and some numerical designations I think.

Maybe some weathering.

The Coftyr half of my Quar Clash of Rhyfles box is built, and as a little bonus I converted a Tractor Tank for them out of a Chibi Sherman model kit that's been sitting in my backlog for a long time.

For reference, these tanks look like this:

I think this will be a fine proxy, and it fits in the starter box with all the other models! To balance it out I bought 3 extra anti-tank infantry and 3 heavy machine gunners for the Crusader side. Next step is to get everything painted!

Coftyran Cryfen LMG Rhyfler. It's quite nostalgic painting heavy metal minis again, which is largely why I'm doing "normal" bases instead of fancy 3d printed ones

My Quar collection grows! This time instead of getting minis, I ended up getting some terrain off of Etsy. Some buildings, fences, hay, and a small bit of trenches!

The goal is to have a workable farming community set for my Partisans to defend. Going with a “war has come to the homestead” look with the trenches. Wanna get an outhouse, a well, some trees, more trench pieces, and a few more farm pieces like a stable and trough.

There are probably a few things McGoohan did that doesn't land him on a "Weirdo" or "Cult classics" or "Forgotten B-movies" watchlist. But this one really makes me think maybe that grumpy old man who is supposed to terrorize everyone who disturbs him mulling over a book in a bar at 6 a.m. is actually just a simple Irish guy living in a not so simple world.

It's a miniatures wargame and it's so fucking charming and fun and the Quar themselves are actually perfectly designed and I am about to buy an STL so I can paint one for the annual big australian painting competition in January. I mean LOOK AT THEM

Short!

I started building my Quar last night, I don't know what I was expecting but these guys are tiny! Here's a Space Marine for scale. The Quar bases are also shorter than the GW bases, but still.

And here's a Grot for scale as well. I built my 12 Crusaders, next I'll work on the Coftyr half of the starter set. All 24 models should easily fit in the box with the rule book and accessories it comes with.

I'm looking forward to painting these dudes, they should paint up really quickly.
