I like to hc that Melmord is a quapa (quarter Korean) but he’s pretty white passing, but if he and Amber were to have a kid, the Asian genes would be at full force

Just because someone has roots in Hawaiʻi does not make it OK for people to use the term hapa or quapa. Also, what is a quapa.. just goes to show the lack of understanding by outsiders. Hapa already means mixed and is not defined by blood quantum in current Hawaiian language colloquial speaking.
I'm not the one who decides what terms people use. I just know that in mixed Asian communities, especially on the internet, and especially in older forums, this is a term very commonly used. "Quapa" arose from those who identified as "hapa" (in these communities) saying those with less than strictly 50% needed to be called something different.
Until Tumblr, I never heard that anyone was against the words being used that way; because mixed people from Hawai'i were the first to form large communities for mixed Asians, they introduced the word to our vocabulary, and many assumed it was ok to use without knowing the context of its origin. There is ample work to be done educating people that this isn't correct.
"Wasian" and "blasian" were most commonly used in porn, and left too many ethnicities out, creating a need for something more inclusive. And both of those options are sort of like "latinx", which is to say that they're well outside the phonotactic constraints of many Asian languages. I don't think it's right to keep using "hapa" if it's against the wishes of Hawai'ian people, but I don't think it will go away entirely a suitable alternative is found. (which of course doesn't excuse it, I'm just being pragmatic)

I saw at least 2 other people doing "get to know me" posts which means it's a trend now =u= So here are some fun facts about me
Under a cut just in casies
My ADHD is a huge part of my personality; I have TONS of hobbies that bring me joy. Included among them are: working out/general physical fitness, ice skating, cosplay, skateboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, and music composition
I'm a dog person! Not to say I don't like cats, but I grew up with dogs and I've kind of never not had a dog
I'm what the kids call a "quapa," which essentially means I'm 1/4 Japanese, 3/4 not Japanese (white, in my case). I identify as "mixed." I grew up in a multi-generational household and my baa-chan honestly had more involvement in my upbringing than my dad did, so I'm very connected to my Japanese heritage.
In a textbook case of "the American education system forced me to commit to my fleeting teen passions on my parents' dime," I have a BA in History that I'm not using and will likely never use (except in the odd leftist rant about colonialism in Africa and the Americas)
That's about it! I promise I'm very friendly, just bad at socializing, and I appreciate every attempt at conversation y'all make with me! If I ever come across as disinterested or distant, it's 100% just my shitty online presence :') I really appreciate all of you very much. Feel free to hit me up to talk about whatever and please don't be discouraged by my constant ghosting 😭 I swear I'm trying my best

Did You Know?
Tumblr media
Between 1873 and 1917, there were more than 20 sightings of the so-called “Bogey-Owl” in Quapas, New York. Roughly half the witnesses described the weird, winged creature as "more bogey than owl,” while the other half testified that it was “more owl than bogey.” Who was right? Who was wrong? The world may never know.

kept trying to give my best friend my recipe for saucy shiitake mushrooms that I came up w/ to feed my ex girlfriend who was very specific about what she wld eat & what she wldn’t eat & whatsapp kept erasing each voice message before I was done & AHHHH I mean, it worked eventually but I’m all flustered now lol  LET MY SHARE MY RECIPE INTERNET  (it was my fault. I kept touching things) anyway, if anyone else wants to know how to make it since I’ve now repeated it so many times that it is all I can think about: get some shiitake mushrooms get low sodium oyster sauce (vegetarian, non-vegetarian, whatever works) get low sodium tamari (i use it over soy sauce because the flavor is less sharp & has more depth imo) get some tuong ot toi (chili garlic paste) (optional - my ex liked spice) get some fish sauce (optional) get some sriracha (optional) get some garlic cloves get some green onions (optional) get some citrus (orange is nice) or fresh coriander (cilantro) or both get some flour or cornstarch (i just always used flour)
pop out the stems of the mushroom, they are tough & you do not want them; however, you can use them to make broths/stocks. Slice mushrooms about a half of an inch thick (you want them thick enough to stand up to the cooking & the sauce). Roughly chop as much garlic as you’d like (I always used a lot). You want to roughly chop them so that they do not burn. Haphazardly slice up the green onions (as many as you want -- I’d typically use three to four if I was using them). Heat oil in pan on medium heat. Throw in mushrooms. Saute until mushrooms begin to brown. Right as mushrooms start to brown, throw in the garlic & the green onions & cook until garlic has softened. Mix the sauce: I just eyeball this, so I throw in the oyster sauce (I often used vegetarian oyster sauce, but it all works), some tamari, some chili garlic paste, maybe some sriracha & fish sauce (really just whatever you have in the fridge currently will do), & then I’d thin it out with water (water is very important because the condiments, even when using low-sodium ones, are salty). I’d then throw some flour into the pan w/ the oil & mushrooms & make a roux-like thing. Then I’d throw in the sauce & let cook & bubble until thickened. I’d make a slurry out of water & flour to pour directly into the pan if the sauce was still too thin or I needed to add more water to make it less salty (thus making the sauce thin again after thickening it once). After it was all done, I’d throw in some chopped cilantro & maybe a squeeze of citrus to brighten everything up. & that is that.  Serve with steamed white rice. Or, if your girlfriend has particular food tastes, then serve the mushrooms alongside potstickers (jiaozi).
