Do you know of any articles/posts discussing the fact that the majority of shows with a diverse cast are primarily police dramas? Brooklyn 99, The Rookie, L.A.’s Finest etc.

Hmmmmm so on the one hand the television industry is a bit of a hellscape but honestly I would question this assertion like yes the correlation is frustrating but just because police shows often feature actors of color, doesn’t mean that most shows featuring POC are police shows. Like okay off the top of my head, here are a few:

Every episode of the new quantum leap, regardless of my other takeaways, I end up getting mad that Sam's family is missing from the story and that Ziggy has been reduced to a personalityless tool

I just watched the second (and final) season of Quantum Leap. As a nonbinary person, this scene really got me in the feels. It's really hokey and showing what should be basic human behavior. And I'm really glad it exists and it made me cry both times I've watched it.

Context for those who don't know, Mason Alexander Park plays Ian Wright, a nonbinary character in the main cast of the show. So they are reacting to this conversation among siblings, which is taking place in 1953.

And as a fan of the original QL in the early 90's, this is definitely a far cry from the overtly homophobic and transphobic aspects of some episodes back then. So, I guess it is nice to see specific evidence of some progress. Even as the backlash continues and we fight for actual liberation.

My favourite part of quantum leap is the intro. all 1 minute and 13 seconds of it. how it's in time to the music but not in the obvious ways. the random images of historical figures and dates that float around. but most of all how it's over a minute long and waits till the very end to credit the actors, the only 2 actors in every episode. and how they don't add any cast credits until after the intro. it's basically a fan cam. and I love it.

Okay so I just finally finished watching the second half of season 2 of the Quantum Leap reboot (I KNOW I'm late since these episodes came out in February but I just couldn't find the time with school and stuff first and then I forgot about it for a while) and I can't believe how beautiful and mind-blowing powerful this show is and these last five episodes hit so damn hard. But then I checked and the show got fucking CANCELLED??? I just can't believe it because there's so much unresolved and I'm just so, so angry about that.

I'm also surprised that apparently barely anyone talks about this show on here? Because not only is it really well-written, it also has a lot of diversity and a nonbinary character in the main cast, it addresses different problems in our society and at the same time it's all so real and human and exciting and it has really grabbed me by the shoulders and shaken me around while I was watching it.

I haven't watched the original show from the 80s yet (which I'm definitely going to do now that the holidays are rolling around soon for me) and I had only found out about this reboot because Mason Alexander Park is in it, whom I had seen before as Desire in The Sandman, and they're a really wonderful actor. Anyways, you guys gotta watch this show, you won't regret it.

Fav Jeff Combs character and movie/series, and why?

Anon, would you ask a mother who her favorite child is?? 😭

Okay well in all seriousness, I don’t have a number one favorite, so I guess I’ll do top 5 (in no particular order)

1. Weyoun. I just love how he’s the perfect blend of a silly goofy character, but also how much of a sly and devious little shit he can be. But at the same time, I can’t help but sympathize with him and what the Founders turned him and the other Vorta into

2. Milton Dammers from The Frighteners. Personally I think this is Jeff’s best performance. Better than Herbert West. Primarily because I think about what if they cast a different character actor from the 90’s for it, and tbh I don’t see anybody other than him pulling it off. I feel like if you got someone like Jim Carrey or Peter MacNicol, they’d probably play Milton as too eccentric and silly. Jeffrey gives the perfect blend of peculiar, threatening, pathetic, and funny to the role and I adore it

3. Doctor Mordrid. Maybe I’m just biased because I’ve fallen out of love with the MCU over the years and didn’t care all that much for the Doctor Strange movies and comics (especially if you take into account how racist some of the comics were), but I love campy fantasy films and Doctor Mordrid is no exception. Anton is very warm, sweet, brave and intelligent and I would feel very safe with him. Not even in a romantic sense, I would just love to be in a book club with him

4. Dr East from The Guyver. Ok ok so this movie isn’t very good and doesn’t do the manga it’s based off of any justice, but I can’t help enjoying it. It’s worth it for the kickass creature effects (Screamin’ Mad George is always a win) and David Gale is fun as always as the villain, and of course, Jeffrey as Dr East. He’s only in the movie for 5 minutes around the 3rd act, but he shines in those 5 minutes. He plays him as [in his own words] Herbert’s ditzy younger brother and it’s so much fun and cute. Plus he turns into a goat monster (before sadly getting killed off 😞)

5. Shran from Enterprise. Despite its many flaws, mediocre representation of diversity in the main crew, post 9/11 Americana vibes and getting canceled just before the series was getting really good, I like Enterprise a lot. Shran is one of the biggest reasons why. He’s a gruff, short tempered, cranky Andorian but underneath that blue exterior, he’s a noble man who cares about the people he loves. Jeff’s chemistry with Scott Bakula is great too and it makes me wish we could’ve gotten them in other projects together (maaaaan why didn’t they put Jeff in an episode of Quantum Leap????)
