For a moment I thought the “host” you were referring to was Frisk lol (then read more and found out about it simply being an alter and not a rp/gimmick blog)

Anyway, Chara, two questions. Do you have know (or at least have memories of) other Undertale characters? (Like memory of the character)

And two (a more random one), any crushes or any ships of yourself do you have (if any)

Both are odd, but I’m just curious, and you can decline either if you want.

Oh yes, I can understand the confusion in that regard. Hell, I expected it! So no worries.

And yes, I knew most of the cast that we all fell in love with from the game! Of course, I knew my parents, Asgore and Toriel. After the last Reset, I lived with Mom and Frisk and visited Dad as much as possible.

As for the others, I was friends with Mettaton and Blooky (I usually chilled with Blook when he was mixing music or just chilling on the floor - he's super relaxing to hang out with - and Mettaton was an awful gossip, the few times he was actually in town), though I'll admit, I was way closer with Blooky than I was with Mettaton. Then there was Sans (I know, shocker right? I'm actually surprised that so many people think Sans and I would be mortal enemies or rivals - trust me, we both have common enemy to hate. Leads to a lot of bonding) and Papyrus, of course. How could anyone NOT like Papyrus? He's the softest lil puffball we got. I would commit another genocide if anyone made him cry, I swear.

Oh, and of course I knew Alphys and Undyne. Undyne and I did some sparring (I needed an outlet for my more. . . Violent tendencies) and me and Alphys got to know each other pretty well, since she was the one who ultimately revived me and gave me a chance at life again (Sans may be one hell of a quantum physicist and engineer, but I would swear on my life that nobody knows biology better than Alphys). We mainly just watched and talked about anime, or my own health. Strangest GP relationship I've ever had. I actually got to be at their wedding, you know? It was a lovely service, small but beautiful all the same. They went for vanilla ice cream cake, and it was so fucking good. I still dream about that cake sometimes.

As for ships. . . Ok, I can already hear the questions and all your hopes and dreams, so I'll just say it: Yes, Frisk and I were together. Settle down, Charisk shippers, settle down,I know you're all excited. We were together about a year before my fictive memories end and my current life actually began, so we uhm. . . We didn't get much time together, unfortunately. It sucks, but I've learned to live with it and have moved on. Maybe sometime I'll go into more detail about it.

UNDERTALE - Sans

headcanons and facts about the lazybones

Personality: Hes very laid-back, seems not at all serious, loves puns, knock knock jokes and pranks, hes is very goofy, kind and reassuring, but he can be very serious and even scary

Hes very observant, he knows how to read peoples facial expression and body language really well like a book. He hates making promises bc he aways takes them very seriously. Breaking a promise to him would be the worst thing to happen

Contrary to what many in the fandom think, he DOES NOT remember resets, hes only awere that they happen, and hes aware that WE are the cause of it and not directly Frisk, however, hes not awere that his existence is part of a game, he believes we are some kind of "anomaly" that messes with the timelines for fun. Because of this, he completely lost the will to make a effort in anything in life at all (braking the barrier for example), and that gives him the impression to be lazy, when hes just tired of trying, since everything is going to reset anyway

He calls himself lazy because he doesn't want people to worry about him, he prefers to hide in this "mask" of comic relief than opening up

Key thing about him is - he aways care about his family and friends and is aways open to help them, but GOD FORBID him to open up about his feelings, he hates it. You have to be VERY close to him for him to open up and stop lying about himself to you

Sexuality: Demiromantic and Pansexual, Sans don't know much about sexuality stuff, he doesn't even know what demiromantic is even if hes one lol, one of the reasons he identifies himself as pansexual is bc he can call himself a PUNsexual

Job: He owns a foodtruck and he sells burgers, fries, onionrings, hotdogs, hotcats, nice cream, and other junk food stuff. You can find him by amusement parks and shopping streets if you are hungry

Hobbies: word search, video games (pokemon style, rhythm games, sandbox, super specific simulators), study astronomy and quantum sciences

Frisk swaps with MK. Frisk is a human disguised as a monster. MK is a half human half monster (idk)

Chara swaps with Asriel. Chara is still the first fallen human but their soul controls a rose and they go by Rosie and with enough souls they can recreate their old body. Asriel was able to become a ghost with his determination and guides MK

Toriel swaps with River Person. Toriel ran away after Asgore disappeared and hides on the river. She wears a hood but it doesn't conceal her identity too well. River Person now goes by her true name Arial. She still has a shadowy face but it's in the shape of a skull. She was the former wife of Gaster but when he took the mantle of king and made their children part of the Royal Family she didn't think she could handle the responsibility of a queen. Her shadowy face is a result of an experiment done by her and Gaster. It doesn't hurt or anything just a mild annoyance

Napstablook swaps with Training Dummy. Napstablook posseses a punching bag esque training dummy and is rather passive and shy. Training Dummy is really bland and desires companionship. Very vanilla boring dude and is a writer but always writes bland uninteresting stories.

Sans swaps with Alphys. Sans is the Royal scientist hired by his dad Gaster. He feels like he didn't really earn his position but plays along nonetheless. He's studying quantum physics and is on the brink of discovering resets. He's a chill laid-back guy outside his lab and usually wears a lab coat, slippers, underwear, and shirts with science puns. Alphys is the former royal scientist who quit to live with Undyne in Snowdin after Undyne had trouble adapting to Hotland. Alphys isn't particularly interested in science anymore. She blames herself over every mistake. Instead of making puns she makes obnoxious pop culture references and wears a faded Mew Mew Kissy Cutie shirt that's 2 sizes too big.

Undyne swaps with Papyrus. Undyne never joined the Royal Guard but aspires to but Papyrus is hesitant to let her join because she has trouble controlling her emotions. She's brash and quick to fight but Alphys insists that she must use puzzles on the human first to avoid damaging them too much. She doesn't really like puzzles so usually she has Alphys make them. She prefers to cook ravioli but also likes spaghetti. Papyrus was named Captain of the Royal Guard by his dad. He sometimes feels as if he's not the best man for the job as he prefers pacifism and thinks that some other guard are better fighters but still appreciates the attention he gets as the captain. He is always ready for a scrap and is eager to fight but not actually hurt his foe. He wants to be taken seriously but is just a bit too goofy. He eventually gets fed up of chasing you and initiates the battle. He's one of the more determined monsters.

Temmie swaps with the Annoying Dog. Temmie is a weird cat dog thing that likes stealing things and annoying Undyne. She's alot stronger than she looks. Annoying Dog is a "Cool Dude" who runs a shop for charity donations in Waterfall. He'll eat anything and everything. He speaks in a nineties style.

Snowdin Shopkeeper swaps with Gerson. Bunnie (as shes known as) is the former captain of the Royal Guard. She was known as the sword of justice and taught Papyrus everything he knows. She retired early to raise her family. Gerson is an old tycoon. He sells weaponry for the Royal Guard and personal friend of Undyne.

Nice Cream Guy swaps with Grillby. Nice Cream Guy serves ice cream Goofy Goobers style and his homemade chocolate syrup is a personal favorite of Alphys so much that she drink it without anything else. He's a bit in over his head though as his parlor only got popular recently after Alphys added heaters around Snowdin. Grillby runs a small food truck for fast food. He travels the underground looking for buisness and always knows to stock Sans up with ketchup and hotdogs as Sans always orders way too much.

Mad Dummy and Mew Mew swap with Mettaton. Mad Dummy is now called Maddaton and was given a body by Sans who used the scrap pieces from Alphys old machine and at first they only hade one form their Boxer form but Sans gives them an upgraded TRANS form after she comes out as trans and this form was an old mech Sans found in Alphys old lab. Mettaton is a ghost possessed a metal training dummy that is overprotective of their cousin but is less mad and more over dramatic. He later posseses a masculine anime robot that sans was making as a gift for Alphys but he threw out after he found out that she is into a different anime. He adores this body and thinks that it's the real him.

Muffet swaps with So Sorry. Muffet runs an art club for spiders and isnt a very good artist (she's still a kid though so lay off). She also has a large sweet tooth. So Sorry reveals his true name as Hatter. (Every swap I make with Muffet ends up being the Mad Hatter but this one makes the most sense because he has his association with hats). He likes to make food art. Its all in the presentation. But he needs funds to help continue his passion and was paid a high amount of money to exterminate you.

Burgerpants swaps with Bratty and Catty. B&C are the very grumpy employees of Madatton and aren't very good at their jobs. They take their anger out by being passive aggressive to their customers and pretending not to be able to do their job....though their act isn't too far from if they actually tried. BP is a cool dude hanging out in the alleyway who totally doesn't sell drugs (you're not a cop are you). He's unemployed an kinda a hippie. He refuses to "work for the man and be another cog in the machine"

Gaster swaps with Asgore. On the day of his children's deaths Asgore was no where to be found. It seems that when he tried to absorb one of Alphys attempts of an artificial soul and it destroyed his body. Now he's all alone.... Gaster is the king who took over after the disappearance of Asgore. He aims to steal seven human souls and use them to become a god. And he doesn't care what he has to do to achieve that goal.

Undertale University AU??

Hellooo I am new(ish) to tumblr and also the Undertale fandom but I just finished the game a few weeks ago (played neutral and pacifist, watched genocide on youtube because i do not want to kill them myself) !!!! And I loved it a lot so I am finally passionate enough about something to be creative with it So I was like why not make an AU-type thing where everyone goes to university? It's probably been done before (?) but whatever I get to do it again I'm currently thinking of maybe doing some comics and potential fanfiction / writing? Anyway so far I have planned out everyone's majors: Sans - Physics I chose physics for Sans because he's aware of alternate timelines in the game, so I think he would be interested in quantum physics specifically. Papyrus - Game Design I had trouble coming up with a major for Papyrus at first but finally decided on game design. Here he can be creative with all of his interests as well as create puzzles for players to solve. He also seems to be online a lot in-game so I think this would be perfect for him Mettaton - Theatre This one is pretty self-explanatory, he likes to be dramatic and will do great in theatre. There is also a cutscene of him acting in-game so I think it fits Alphys - Computer Science (with Biochem as a 2nd major or minor) Alphys very much programs in-game as stated by Mettaton when he talks about her naming programming variables after Undyne, and she builds machines and robots! And Biochem might change but I chose this based on her experiments in the True Lab, I felt maybe those would be considered biology? Undyne - Criminology (potential focus on forensics) Undyne is a cop in Deltarune so I felt like this major fits Napstablook - Music (minor in business) Napstablook seems to be very passionate about music so that is their true passion, but their parents wanted them to become a business major so they could carry on the family business. They were originally a business major to appease their parents but decided to just have it be a minor and follow their true passion. Shyren - Music Obviously Muffet - Literature Muffet talks very properly in-game and is also based on the fairytale "Little Miss Muffet" so I thought this would fit! Toriel - Theatre Professor? Maybe English At the end of Undertale hard mode (where you name yourself Frisk) Toriel reveals she was acting out being dead so clearly she has the ability to be involved in theatrics. But she also gives off English teacher vibes and likes to read a lot so I'm not sure. Maybe both? Asgore - Biology Professor In Deltarune, Asgore grows his own flowers. I also need the professors to teach classes the characters will actually attend so this works lol Alphys will be in his class W.D. Gaster - Physics Professor Specializes in quantum physics and has his own lab at the university where he conducts research. Some people find him a little shady, but Sans works in his lab and does research under him. I'm very excited to work on this more, hopefully I have the time!! I also haven't really drawn much before but I will try my best :P Thanks for reading!

if i can be momentarily ship-for-brains a little bit i do think the implication of asriel and dess having had A Thing is very interesting when considered from the Eloping From The Narrative/Dess ‘n’ Dings Mobius Double Reacharound* perspective. because like yeah what’s more Rejecting The Narrative than the story’s intended hero rejecting her made-to-be love interest and waltzing around the Fantasy Holes with the story’s intended villain instead, directly defying the Will of their absent clockmaker God

like. thinking about the relationships around Dess, both the Holiday and Dreemurr parents were literally Made For Each Other — we know that at least Asgore and Toriel are the same Type of monster (this isn’t yet confirmed for the Holidays, but i think it’s more likely than not. also i will be shocked if the Mayor’s name isn’t Clarice. come on.), which fits common Fictional Family tropes — but even before her disappearance there may have been cracks forming. we don’t know enough about rudy and c’s relationship yet to say much about it, but we do know they didn’t start off on the best foot, though rudy plays off their meeting as a funny anecdote.** asgore and toriel were high school sweethearts who, if we follow that trope, may have never considered seeing anyone else before getting hitched, and we know (from our perspective later in the timeline) that the marriage failed. rudy and asgore have long-standing and extremely obvious chemistry but apparently never seriously entertained the idea that they’d make a good couple.

and then their first born kids seem to be in a perfect position to be Love Interests — they’re next door neighbors, childhood friends, she even wears his jacket. a perfectly wholesome Story Couple. of course asriel is the perfect love interest, the sweet, popular golden boy, her parents’ best friends’ child and someone the bulk of the audience already loves. i could see both in- and out-of-universe actors being very approving of it, even pressuring for it.

and i could see Dess, already rebellious, picking her own name and watching scary movies and wielding bats against bullies, looking at that whole situation and mistrusting it and thinking, Maybe I Should Explore My Options. maybe asriel is, if she’s being honest, a little boring. and, well, who’s that strange, spooky boy who just showed up in town one day? the one who keeps giving her Halloween pencils*** and seems to know just a little too much about quantum optics? the quiet outsider no one seems to like or trust very much? maybe he needs a friend. so they start to hang out. they stumble onto Dark Worlds together, and that becomes their little secret — not just because the Dark Worlds themselves are so exciting, mysterious, and dangerous, but because they can sense that the relationship is increasingly transgressive. her parents can’t know. asriel definitely can’t. these two kids’ relationship becomes so entangled in the escape of a collaborative fiction in which they can safely and authentically be themselves, together, that they end up dragging the whole universe with them into a struggle over creative disagreements (do we let it end with the Roaring or not?) that is really, at its core, about an unspoken mutual fear of losing each other. as above so below etc.

the possibilities in that for tying together other story threads… there are a lot. i dunno. ex: if this is D&D’s little secret, who’s the other person in “YOU TWO”? well, what if kris followed them on one of their excursions? what if they knew about the Dark Worlds, and even the burgeoning relationship, but struck a deal — they get to join in the adventure as long as they don’t tell. maybe the “deals” and “agreements” between kris and will-be extraplanar entities run deep. convenient, isn’t it, that kris as player-vessel can’t talk as far as a Player is concerned, and can’t speak freely to other characters? they can’t spill secrets or tell of any truths or promises they may know exist in anyone’s hearts. if that wasn’t gaster’s doing, then what if it was dess’s? is this all just high-octane copium to justify liking a very fringe crack ship? probably. man. i don’t even fucking know. just. do you see my Vision. do you understand. also they’d just be funny together i think

Her teacher was Comic Sans W.D. Who also worked with the king and his other scientist.

Sans was the one to tell the king Asgore about Nicky's existance and how smart she is, Asgore at first didn't put attention to it until...

He saw her for the first time.

He saw her soul dancing as she explained to Sans' class her own ideas and theories. He saw how she loved talking about it.

After thinking and thinking, he finally called for her and made her his own scientist or how Sans calls it, "his secretary"

Act 4: Education and Moral Standards, Chapter 3

Whoa whats this? A post that didn’t take two centuries before the last? I know, a real shocker. I even would’ve got this one done earlier if I wasn’t also writing a longer event chapter which is also getting closer to being done, although you won’t be able to see it yet obviously. I mean you probably think it’s a Christmas chapter, but actually no, while a Christmas one isn’t out of the question (I’m thinking I’ll do a short one for that), I’ve got a fun one planned for New Years, weird decision, but I’ll fully explain it then, I promise. Anyway here’s the first of the shorter chapters, feel free to let me know how it goes, it does feel super short to me, but maybe that’s because I wrote it in one go and I’m just used to the longer ones still, but I still think it’ll be better than waiting 100 years for a chapter. Ok I’ll stop rambling now, hope you enjoy, you people have a good day and stuff. 

FIRST, PREVIOUS, NEXT, INFO 

Asgore Asgore found the familiar halls empty of anyone he wanted to see, he passed parents and students that he didn’t really know very well, one of them was in a class of his, though obviously he was busy. Honestly, he’d hoped that maybe one of the kids would show up or Simon, or anyone he knew well enough to hang out with. With a final defeated sigh, he leaned his back on a locker, finding that this was a better place than any to rest, in another ten minutes or so he would go on another search, perhaps more people would out and about. For the next five minutes nothing changed, only one pair of parents passed him, the recently cleaned halls shined a little, yet revealing nothing of interest to break him from his boredom. That was until he heard footsteps running down the hall to his left, glancing over to find a girl clad in what he could only describe as cowboy attire, the old western look being the main thing anyone noticed on first seeing her because of how out of place it was. Although for him and his classmates, seeing Clover like that wasn’t so weird, at least not anymore. Clover stopped in front of Asgore, looking at him with eyes of contempt and pure aggravation, ‘’God damn it, my fucking luck’’. She kept looking behind her, back towards the corner she came from, now the two could hear some slightly heavier footsteps approaching. Before Asgore had enough time to even give her a ‘Howdy’, he found himself being dragged by the arm further down the hall, slowing down only 5 meters further and coming to a halt in front of a cleaner’s closet. The human quickly opened the door and shoved him into it with a lot of unnecessary force, causing him to stumble and almost impact the concrete floor, luckily, he regained his balance thanks to being able to grasp some support from a dusty wooden shelf, although he did knock a bottle of cleaning chemical to the ground in his attempt to save himself. Clover soon after dashed into the closet and closed the door slowly, obviously trying to prevent any audible sign that they’d gone inside. She turned to Asgore and put a finger to her mouth as a sign to be quiet, watching him pick up the bottle off the floor with a look disdain. Her attention moved to outside the door as the footsteps became louder and louder, eventually peaking when the individual got the front of the door, their shadow covering the light from under the entrance. But the shadow didn’t move. Asgore could tell Clover was holding her breath and he couldn’t quite blame her, he didn’t even know why he was here and yet he was dreading what would happen if that door opened, what type of situation was he about to get himself into? A deep feminine sounding sigh came from the other side of the door before finally the light from under the door was unblocked and the footsteps begun to fade away. Clover let out a huge sigh of relief, even taking a few deep breaths afterwards, ‘’Shit, that was real close’’. She looked back at Asgore who now had a matching but less intense look of relief. Once the halls had once again returned to its former silence, she opened the door and took a few steps out, looking both ways to keep watch and already looking to be on the move. Asgore followed her out, giving a friendly smile, now enjoying the open, light hall compared to that cramped, dark space. ‘’Hey Clover, uh you alright, what’s going on?’’ The moment his words reached her, she appeared to tense up, her tone making it clear that this wasn’t a conversation she wished to be having, especially with him of all people. ‘’None of your damn business, as far as you should be concerned everything’s fine. Just go run along and do whatever dandy stuff you like to do, I don’t care, just do it away from me’’. His smile turned to a much more nervous one, faltering at the hostility, ‘’So you’re just going to involve me like that and not tell me why I had to hide from some stranger?’’ She pulled down her hat as she groaned loudly, ‘’No, I didn’t do it to involve you, I bloody well did it because I don’t trust you not to sell me out, for all I know your stupid extreme honesty would’ve kicked in and I ain’t risking that…’’, she pulled her hat back up as her brown eyes found his with an irritated gaze, ‘’Why don’t you stop being real damn nosy and focus on your own problems… because we know you have them’’. It was finally at this that his expression lost the smile, ‘’Excuse me? But what are you on about?’’ ‘’You know, the fact that you get your ass beat every few days because you want to protect some kid… don’t give that confused look, you think those bruises you try to hide were only noticed by those close to you? Almost everyone in class knows something is going on, though most don’t know what… even seems to be a theory going around that maybe that’s happening to you at home after school, if you know what I mean?’’ ‘’Th-that’s… That’s not what’s happening! That’s completely wrong!’’ ‘’Well the less informed don’t know that. Tell us Asgore, what is going on? Because I mean the way Tori’s been asking around, she doesn’t know either… so why don’t you clear up the truth?’’ The goat monster’s surge of anger disappeared and was replaced with a silence, he only watched Clover with a look that showed he wasn’t going to say anything. ‘’Whatever Asgore, you’re not my problem so just stay out of my way, see ya, make sure to leave me alone’’, with an annoyed and dismissing tone, she walked back the way she came swiftly, trying to leave the situation as quickly as possible, leaving the prince to his own thoughts and secrets.

While the school was unfamiliar to him, it was thanks to signs and random people walking around that actually knew the place that he managed to find his way. The school itself from the inside looked nice, it was simple and a little generic. However, it was clean, had a large amount of running facilities and lots of room to do whatever classes and students needed to do, he felt like he wouldn’t have minded going to this school back in the day, a time that felt like it was a long time ago, a time where he felt he was a different person to the one that he is now, who knew being an adult could change you. Stifling another yawn that he could feel were becoming more and more overpowering, he made his down the last hall to his destination, seeing two doors to a bathroom for each gender. He opened the door to the male bathrooms and was half way from stepping inside when something made him stop, sending a shiver down his spine and making his eyes widen as well as making his eye lights disappear. ‘’Sans… Sans… come to us… Sans’’ The voice was faint and raspy, as if it had to rely on the wind to carry it anywhere, but despite the voice’s quirks, it was all too familiar to him. He turned his head to the left, looking down the hall where he saw a tall shadowy silhouette standing there, not moving, only being audible, repeating those words. Swearing, he dashed into the bathroom, slamming the door behind him and running to the row of sinks in front of the large horizontal mirror. Sci stuffed his hands in his right pants pocket, finding nothing, trying to slide his finger into a small crevice. ‘’Quick, quick, ah shit please, c’mon’’. Finally, he found what he was looking for, opening the concealed pocket and pulling out a syringe in the open, the glass in the small thing filled with an orange liquid. His eyes found the mirror in front of him and in its reflection, he saw the shadowy figure from before standing on the other side of the room behind him, this time joined by a smaller figure right next to it. They both had eyes develop onto them, familiar eyes, and then that’s when he started to notice colours were starting to form on the taller one, white spreading along its head to make a bone like material. ‘’Is this really Sans? Come to us’’. This time two voices spoke with the filtered-like voice, the second one seeming a little higher than the first, the way he spoke also had a less confident tone, it made him feel guilt. ‘’G-get… get the h-hell way from me!’’, panicking now, his hands were shaking fiercely and twice he nearly dropped the syringe on the floor. He rolled his right sleeve up and managed, with a struggle, to position the syringe above where his forearm would be. Barely giving him any time to aim properly, he stabbed it into the bone, gritting his teeth from the sudden sharp pain, finally pressing down on the end of the syringe, making the orange liquid disappear into his arm. After a few seconds of nothing but fear and pain, both feelings just suddenly stopped. Energy, lots of energy, it was the only way he could describe the sensation that was going through his entire body. He felt new, refreshed, powerful. Putting the syringe back in his concealed pocket, he looked up at the mirror. Both figures were gone, he was alone in the bathroom now. He looked at his eyes, making the pair of them blue, the type that would usually show in his left eye whenever using a lot of magic. The skeleton returned his eyes back to the normal white eye light and let out a deep laugh. ‘’Oh, this feeling just never gets old’’, he said to himself as he cracked the bones around his neck. Any feeling of tiredness had been eliminated, no impending yawns, no sign that he was ever like that in the first place, all they could see was the Sans who was ready to take on the world. ‘’Hopefully this will allow the others to worry a little less, I told them I’d be fine and look at me now, right as rain’’. With those last few words, he stretched his arms a little before finally leaving the bathroom to go find Alphys and Asgore.

Undertale Headcanons (mostly about Sans)

6 years have passed since the release of Undertale, and there’s still so much we don’t know, especially in regards to Sans. I didn’t write much for Undertale’s anniversary last year, mostly just reblogged other people’s gorgeous fanart, but I’ve been mulling everything over and I wanted to write a bit about everything we know, everything we don’t, and my takes on how those threads connect, in honor of Undertale’s 6th anniversary and the release of Deltarune Chapter 2. Here we go!

What we know:

1) Sans was most likely some kind of scientist, as evidenced by his workshop, his quantum physics books, and this statement:

Key word “our”,  meaning he was most likely involved in obtaining those reports somehow.

2) Sans was somehow involved with Gaster, the previous Royal Scientist who built the Core and who “shattered across time and space”. The biggest evidence to support this is of course his use of the infamous “gaster blasters”

Most likely, he worked alongside Gaster while studying the timelines, and he is the other person Sans is referring to when he said “our reports”. The only other possibility would be Alphys but she, unlike Sans, never once insinuates that she has any knowledge of alternate timelines or the power to RESET. She also mentions that you seem familiar if you RESET after befriending her,

Unlike Sans, who keeps whether or not he experienced any déjà-vu hidden (probably out of a sense of self preservation)

3) Sans has dealt with Flowey’s RESET BS before, and probably remembers enough to know he’s dangerous. If you reset enough times after battling Asgore, eventually Flowey will tell you this little gem:

so Sans has confronted and killed Flowey for his timeline shenanigans several times. Also, during a normal playthrough Sans tries to warn you about Flowey

I know he later says that “someone must be using an echo flower to play a trick on [Papyrus]”, but am I supposed to believe that while telling his brother about the flower giving him “encouragement, advice, predictions”, Papyrus never once mentioned that this flower was golden?? No, Papyrus being Papyrus he probably told Sans ALL about his little golden flower friend. So why be so cryptic about it? Why warn you at all? I believe Sans remembers or has figured out enough to know that the flower is dangerous, that it has hurt Papyrus before, so he tells you to keep an eye out for it, and he does so in such a way that, were Flowey to overhear your conversation (which little Mr follows-you-everywhere-you-go totally could), he’d be unlikely to suspect that Sans knows anything.

4) Sans dealt with RESET shenanigans for far, FAR too long - I made a post a while ago about exactly this, but the TL;DR of the matter is that Sans has had to deal with at the BARE MINIMUM around 70 years worth of RESETs. And that’s being extremely generous, with the more likely number being over 130 years. 

5) As a result of the aforementioned exposure to time hijinks, he’s most likely struggling with at the very least dysthymia, if not actual Major Depressive Disorder - It’s never explicitly stated, but the signs are all there, some better hidden than others. If you call Undyne at the Snowed Inn she tells you that she usually doesn’t sleep over at Papyrus’ house because Sans gets up constantly during the night, repeatedly waking her up.

This could of course have been done on purpose as a prank to make her lose sleep, but it seems a little too mean-spirited for him. Usually his pranks are completely harmless, like whoopee cushions or leaving a red ring around your eye or telling you he’s selling fried snow (without ever actually letting you waste money by buying it). Taking the fact that he naps constantly during the day into account, as well as this statement by Papyrus:

then we already have 2 of 5 criteria from the DSM-5 (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders created by the American Psychiatric Association) required to diagnose Major Depressive Disorder: fatigue/loss of energy and insomnia. Other criteria exhibited by Sans include:

Constant hopelessness

Not feeling interest or joy from things he normally would (aka anhedonia)

and Altered appetite (if we take what he says at face value, it seems like he is eating more than ever, since he says goes to Grillby’s to eat every 30min or something like that, but we never see him actually eat anything even after ordering, and some conversations with Grillby’s patrons seem to indicate maybe he actually has a decreased appetite, and is hiding it by feeding his meals to the Dogi when no one is looking)

There’s also this dialogue for the Ugly Fish, which directly contradicts what Sans said previously about his eating habits.

The game doesn’t give us direct proof for any of the rest of the symptoms, like thoughts of death or excessive feelings of guilt/worthlessness, but it is quite possible that someone in his position would struggle with those things as well, and in any case what we do have evidence for is enough to make me fairly certain that he’s dealing with a disorder on the depressive spectrum. Also, we may not have a time frame for his symptoms but as stated before he’s been facing Flowey’s bs for literal decades, so he’s probably had these issues for quite a while, and it’s undoubtedly affecting his life since he can’t bring himself to put more than the least possible effort into anything.

6) Even with everything I’ve already explained, despite finding life so pointless that he’s pretty much given up on finding happiness or in doing his best at anything for himself, the poor guy still does his best to provide and care for Papyrus. He’s basically his hype-man, he defends him from anyone who insults him, he supports him in every endeavor (both emotionally and financially), he makes sure that he has every luxury they can afford (even if he doesn’t buy any for himself), he does his best to spare him from harsh truths, and so much more. It’s part of why I love him so much; despite the world continuously trying to stomp out his empathy, he still cares deeply about his loved ones and will go to great lengths to help them.

This includes Toriel (besides making and keeping his infamous promise to her for as long as he could, he also supports her however he can in every neutral ending)

(and some of you still wonder why Soriel is a thing)

Also Alphys (he seemingly helps feed the amalgamates and he supports her wholeheartedly during the Queen Alphys neutral ending)

That’s pretty much everything we know with any degree of certainty about Sans. Time to head into...

Headcanon territory (continued under the cut)

1) How much does he remember? - I’d say Sans must remember SOMETHING of the previous timelines. Many people argue that because Sans always seems to talk about his knowledge of your actions in relation to things he can observe, like your expression, he remembers nothing. Others argue that his level of intuition is so uncanny that he MUST remember everything. However, I believe that the actual truth is somewhere in the middle. We know that other monsters have at least a sense of deja-vu, 

so Sans must likewise remember at least that much. Perhaps his knowledge of timelines, LOADs and RESETs or his experiments with Gaster allow him to dig up more memories than others could (or at least actually pay attention to what those feelings of deja-vu are telling him without dismissing them as most of the others do), which would explain how he’s able to tell exactly how many times in a row he’s killed you and give you a warning when you’ve killed Papyrus in a previous timeline.

2) So why keep quiet about his deja-vu? Why not be like his brother and make it clear that he has vague memories of you? It’s as I said at the beginning of this post - self preservation.

We’ve established that Sans is most likely aware of the threat Flowey poses, that he knows of timeline shenanigans, that he can keep track of events between LOADs/RESETs and that he’s very smart (and even used to be a scientist of some sort). A person like that could probably infer that the reason Flowey&Frisk RESET so much is because they “have to see what happens”. So what can he do, with his very limited power, to reduce the amount of RESETs as much as possible?

Simple - he gives them as little variation as possible so that they’d have no reason to RESET anymore. He hides his knowledge so that the anomaly can’t go “oh look! this dude remembers, so he could have a different reaction every single time! How fun! =)”

We know Flowey at least found great joy in the changes brought about by the presence of someone who actually remembered. So much so that he was willing to do nearly anything to stop you from leaving

In light of that, of course Sans would keep anything he knows as under wraps as possible. This is why I’m very reluctant to believe he only “figures out stuff from your expression”.

3) How much of a threat is Sans to a Pacifist Frisk? - many people speculate that Sans would be useless in a fight against an opponent with no EXP, since they believe his KARMA will not work at all against such an enemy, leaving him with only his natural 1ATK to work with. I, however, don’t think that’s true.

Sans’ KR can do a maximum of 40HP of poison/drain-damage, plus 30HP of damage per second of contact with his attacks (due to his invincibility cancel) at LV19, so clearly the HP lost is not exactly equal to your LV. If we say that KARMA is a form of retribution for your crimes, as it appears to be,

then we can assume that KR does more and more damage the more EXP/LV you’ve earned, yes. However, I don’t think KR would do NO damage at LV1, and I don’t believe that Sans’ most powerful weapon, the invincibility frame cancellation, would disappear.

After all, LV is a quantification of your capacity to hurt others. You start at LV1, not LV0, since even at LV1 you’re perfectly capable of killing people. You can even be LV1 after having killed a monster (specifically a whimsun). And that’s not even taking into account how complicated and hard to dodge his attack patterns are.

Therefore, little LV1 Frisk with their miserable 20HP would near dead after only half a second of contact with his attacks (which would deal 15HP of damage), AND I bet they’d have to deal with at least 1-2HP of extra drain/poison damage every turn.

So yeah, if he chose to fight Frisk as soon as they came out of the Ruins, Sans would most likely still be one of the hardest battles in the game.

4) Does Sans care for Frisk? - I’ve seen a lot of debate about whether Sans ultimately feels anything for Frisk or not (in Pacifist timelines of course, he undoubtedly hates you if you kill Papyrus and he judges you harshly if you’ve killed people),

particularly because even if you’ve got 0 EXP, even if you’ve gone to Grillby’s with him and bought his hotdogs and had fun together, this still happens

So he realizes you’re the anomaly, and therefore a threat, no matter the run. However, I think he says this because, at this point, even if you’re LV1, you could still turn around and kill people. You could even completely decimate the population of Hotland and the Core, Genocide style. So this is most likely both a warning and a *cough* “kind” suggestion to behave. 

However, I think Sans does eventually change his mind, and it’s probably at this moment:

at this point, you’ve gone through the entire underground without killing anyone. There’s literally no reason to kill anyone anymore, since there are no encounters in New Home (unless you go back and hunt the few monsters remaining in the Core, though I’m not sure if spawns still happen there after Mettaton. I couldn’t find anything clear) so he’s probably pretty confident that you’re a pacifist. I believe at this point he allows himself to trust you

Look at that: he tells you you’re loved, and that he believes what’s in your heart will most likely be the right thing for everyone. It’s actually very sweet of him...which makes going back to kill people at this point even more screwed up and heartbreaking imo.

Then there’s this little tidbit from Asriel while he’s holding everyone’s souls, which I feel is the biggest piece of evidence:

After all, Asriel doesn’t strike me as a very good liar. Even as Flowey the whole “friendliness pellets” thing was sus af in hindsight. And what reason could he have to lie at this point? If Sans didn’t love Frisk, all Asriel had to do was not mention him by name, just like he didn’t mention Asgore. In my opinion, this is proof positive that Sans must have at least some positive feelings for Frisk (this makes the soulless pacifist endings even more horrifying now that I think about it omg Toby why must you hurt me in this way)

5) Why doesn’t Sans stop you from killing Papyrus during a Genocide run? - I’ve seen people call Sans cold or uncaring because he only ever intervenes in the worst case scenario, but we’ve already established that Papyrus is one of the few things Sans can still bring himself to care deeply about. So, why doesn’t he stop at least Papyrus from confronting a blood(or dust in this case)-thirsty psychopath?

I have 2 theories about this (though they are non-exclusive, in fact they most likely both impacted equally on his choices). The first is that Sans, who canonically can teleport together with other people, helped warn the Snowdin residents of the incoming threat, and he was assisting in the evacuation efforts when Papyrus backtracked to confront the human, leaving him alone for long enough to kill him.

The second is that Sans knows from experience that there’s just... no point.

As we’ve said, Sans has been dealing with this time problem for a very long time. Since we know for sure Sans can tell when Papyrus has been killed in an alternate timeline, I’m certain that at first he did try to protect him, before deciding that it’s both hopeless and too painful.

I imagine it went a little like this: near the beginning of Flowey’s loops, Sans did his absolute best to protect him without Flowey realizing what he was doing, and likely succeeded. Sadly, the only thing Flowey would’ve had to do was to LOAD his save file and find a way to circumvent Sans’ interference. Then do that again. And again. And again, for every one of the hundreds of times Papyrus was killed. Eventually, Sans must have realized that not only was there absolutely nothing he could do to stop it, but that trying would just lead to him probably witnessing Papyrus’ death himself, helpless to save him, making it doubly painful.

He probably tried to tell people a few times, to ask for help, but that likely stopped pretty quick. Telling anyone would just cause them mental and emotional pain without being able to change anything, so he probably decided to spare them from the knowledge and just...bear with it.

After a while, broken, beaten, and terribly alone, he likely just... gave up on trying to change anything or even putting more than the bare minimum amount of effort into anything. After all if it all was gonna reset without warning, why bother?

Why do his best at his job(s)?

Why bother trying to build anything?

Before a Determined being, nothing lasts and nothing matters.

6) If all that is true, why does he try to stop you at the end during Genocide? - I’ve seen people argue that Sans fights you for revenge or to save himself from dying once the world ends, but I have to strongly disagree. If it was petty revenge, he would just kill you every single time you kill Papyrus after all. It’s also very unlikely to be self-preservation, since as we’ve said he’s most likely suffering from depression: he has no hopes for his own future, no ambitions, no will to accomplish anything except maybe see Papyrus happy. Why would he suddenly sprout a desperate desire to survive out of nowhere, enough to drive him to fight a literally unwinnable battle, possibly hundreds of times? I find that hard to believe.

The most likely answer is that, if you destroy the world... Papyrus would never come back, and neither would any of his friends. Every time you kill them, he at least has the dubious comfort of knowing you’ll probably bring them back during your next run, but not this time. If you win this time, you’ll take the timeline with you, and he’ll never see them again (huh... that sounds a bit familiar:)

So he fights.

Despite knowing he can’t beat you.

Despite realizing his only hope is that you get tired and give up

Despite coming to the fight with the knowledge of every single previous failed attempt

Despite having to exert himself to the bone

He fights, and clings desperately to the slim chance that you’ll try to be better

He doesn’t mean not to come back to the Underground at all. After all, that’d mean that Sans would be stuck in a world where his brother and most of his friends are dead forever. Most likely, he wants you to not come back to this Sans, to this timeline. He wants you to RESET, and to make better choices next time. He wants another chance for Papyrus to be happy, even if it’s for a short while.

I feel like his very last words, revealing the only thing at the forefront of his mind during his last moments, is what’s most telling of the truth:

As with everything else he does, it’s all for Papyrus

In conclusion (TL;DR), Sans might not be an epic hero fighting for the good of the entire world like Undyne, but he’s a deeply hurt individual struggling basically alone to survive a horrifyingly bleak situation, who despite simultaneously coping with a serious mental disorder as a result is STILL a fundamentally kind person, who does his best to spare his loved ones from the worst outcome, is always willing to help his friends and family to the best of his ability, and who, despite his best efforts to the contrary, still cares so much, to the point of even giving the benefit of the doubt and coming to care for the same anomaly that might doom him.

That’s the core of who Sans is, and that’s why I love him so, so much. It makes me hope that the True Pacifist ending really is the “True Ending”, and that somewhere, he has finally found peace, relief, and a future free of suffering together with his loved ones.

(If you have reunited playing at enter his room, it'll disappear forever. Untill you go back and let it play again. Even without reunited, a song that plays no matter what room your in, doesn't play any music.)

Never takes off his battle body.

(According to sans, he only takes it off if he has no other choice too. Otherwise he'll just put clothes ontop of it, or just repaints it if needed. He does how ever, change his pants but never takes off the top.)

the minute "royal gaurd " is out of the picture, he's got nothing.

(It was the one thing he worked up for. When the royal gaurd disbands He says he "working hard on doing absolutely nothing". Then again this can be interpreted as papyrus does say he is working on something, despite not being a royal gaurd yet.)

He lies. (And can manipulate)

(Though he is really bad at lying, he seems to manipulate just fine, though its usually not out of malice. He gets undyne to befreind you by mentioning "challenge", which is a weakness of hers, since she never can turn down a challenge. And has lied about floweys name to her to. Has lied to sans or atleast mislead him about the things he knows about. Pretended he didn't know what a lab was during a call in hotland, but if you call him when sans isn't there, papyrus mentions the lab as if it was common knowledge instead of saying "Labrador-y?" As if he had no idea.)

Changes up his attacks

( if you get captured a few times, you see variation in his attacks. If you do it right, you can get him too skip half of his entire attack.)

Calls his own puzzles "Awful"

(This happens after battling papyrus, he says "WHO KNEW THAT ALL I NEEDED TO MAKE PALS... WAS TO GIVE PEOPLE AWFUL PUZZLES AND THEN FIGHT THEM??" This could be interpreted in many ways.)

Spikes, fire, traps, fencless bridges: are all safe for children, according to papyrus.

("EACH AREA HAS TO HAVE A PRECARIOUS BRIDGE" -bridge likely to collapse, dangerous. "ITS MANDATED BY THE GOVERNMENT. OF COURSE KING FLUFFYBOY WANTS TO UNMANDATE IT SAFER." "WHY?! WONT HE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!)

Has "talked" with asgore before.

(Sadly, asgore and papyrus has crossed paths. Asgore advises him not to but dangerous puzzles around town, for the children. Papyrus wants to put dangerous puzzles around town, for the children. This results in them bickering over saftey laws, with papyrus usually winning.)

Tried to start a flowey fan club

(On multiple occasions calls flowey "his best freind" and shows genuine love for the little guy. He even gave flowey a little red scarf to match his, during the 5th anniversary winter alarm clock.)

Has photo-graphic memory for phone calls.

(Says this during a call with undyne in grillby's place. Undyne says she loves grease, and he quickly dismisses his opinion in favor of hers. Of course, papyrus HAS visited grillbys before, as the dogamy and doggeressa mention him with sans. )

(He teases undyne a few times on this, leading to the "hot voice" and "audible wink" papyrus lines. He's not oblivious to the things around him, unless he chooses to be.)

(Conversation in hotland! The guy thought limes where cucumbers and stuck them in his eyes. When. He thought it wasn't working he put more limes. It burned like hell but he says it was all to have "mettaton's bishoning eyes")

(Nobody seems to know that mettaton has eyes?! Undyne confirms this fact. Papyrus is the only one who outright mentions it.)

(FOR SOME UNEXPLAINED REASON- mettaton was the tile puzzle robot alphys built. The puzzle robot papyrus had during his own tile puzzle. Infact, during mettaton's tile puzzle in hotland, he says that you'd is this a few hundred rooms ago. If you call papyrus, he starts rambling on all the instructions again. Hehe.)

During a call in waterfall, with the puddle hallway, papyrus talks about not letting it "get to you" or something along the lines of that. Since undyne speaks from her experience with the puddles, then i'd assume papyrus would too.)

(I think its just a sign of self doubt or insecurity. Someone once said its dysphoria, which is a cool headcannon for paps or something. What ever it is, he has some demons that he doesn't want to let out.)

( interpreitive as well:Before the human showed up, sans explains how his brother was feeling quite down lately. We see a.. Happier side of papyrus through out our journey.. He vents out to us, the player/human, about things he dislikes, or troubles he faces. Hes like a froggit. Life is hard for a froggit.)

Uses his playful "OUCH!" emote when you straight up kill him. Instead of his hurting/in pain emote when flowey catches him off guard before absorbing everyonesones souls.

(The reason is unkown, but that emote is normally associated with more of "light taps." Examples are, toriel's fireballs at asgore and flowey. Unless... Cutting off his head was considered a "light tap" then, but flowey wrapping him in painful vines is considered more painful than getting his head chopped off and still having enough consciousness to joke about it.)

He knows his cooking sucks and that nobody likes it.

(He's not naive. He knows. He even says it. "Nobody has like my cooking before!" - QUOTE. This isn't some hidden fact. He's trying his best, "mabye next year, he might even make something edible." -sans quote.)

~At this time he is the only boss monster that has 3 magic traits

~He truly gets excited when talking about science or when people asks questions about souls and how they work.

~He does have a second job at a medical research lab for souls but it’s usually to help Alphys and her crew.

*whispers into the mic* Okay some info on soul magic. With boss monsters soul magic is almost equivalent to a soul trait. It can tell you a little bit about a monster’s personality or where their ideals stand. Because Wingding is the only boss monster currently known to have three traits he pushed himself to try and learn more about souls in order to better understand himself. Mostly any research about souls in general are his research and other scientist thought and theories.

There is going to be more info that goes into depth about how boss monsters’ souls are so closely similar to mages souls but for now. Boss monsters can pass down their soul traits to their offspring and sometimes as they get older that trait will either get overwhelmed by the growing kids own trait or coexist with the parent trait allowing the child to have two traits. “It is said the more traits you have the stronger you are.” But that statement has yet to be proven for safety reasons.
