Very persistent hawk this morning. I went out to make him nervous enough to leave and my canary went from 'hawk!' to 'hi human, greetings this fine morning.' Said hi back and convinced the hawk to leave. He waited until I was almost to the porch to fly back up LOL went back out and shooed him again. Got inside with coffee before he came back this time. Shooed him again, he came back. He must be very hungry but its no good for him to waste time and energy on birds he'll never get a hold of (plus its not great for my birds either).
#the hawk is probably female actually#very pretty young coopers#their hunting technique to flush prey is very interesting#fortunately for those dumb valley quail the wire stops them from leaving the cage into the hawk's talons

Always proud to say my dogs will always get to do what they’re bred to do 🫶
I think it's so funny how we bred JOBS into dogs. I have two shih tzus and they were bred to be lap dogs. All they care about is looking cute and cuddling with people. Meanwhile my grandma has a border collie and that dog needs to feel so useful all the time, he acts like he will pass away if he doesn't have a job to do constantly
#German shorthairs are versatile gundogs#aka HPR (hunt point retrieve)#they’re bred for high prey drive - used for a range of hunting#from waterfowl to upland game#to blood trailing and game tracking#expected to point game and retrieve downed game#we do field work - pointing pigeons and quail#as well as trial in gundog sports such as retrieving#please please please allow your dogs to express their genetics#you’ll find your bond gets so much better if you work with your dogs genetics#and not against

the discourse against bootstraps/libertarian style homesteading was inevitably going to lead to total rejection of the idea of growing food for yourself and your community
like yea libertarians are dumb but so is ordering uber eats every day and supporting govt subsidized monocrops and factory farmers
#i dont know much abt growing food outside of florida but native food forests and fishing/hunting/trapping there#and maybe some small meat animals like rabbits/quails/chickens#are GREAT things to look into idc if you rent own use a community garden etc... its so much more humane+sustainable than buying everything
