Some people get so upset when you call an animal ugly. Like, sorry! Some animals are ugly! That doesn't mean they aren't beautiful.
#not mustelids#i do not find newborn featherless birds or certain dog breeds visually appealing. thats not a bad thing#it doesnt mean theyre not beautiful and deserving of love. i just#personally. do not think theyre very pretty

Icelandics are a type of bird dog, but not in the traditional way. Being an all purpose farm dog, they alert to predators BUT the only predators in Icelandic are birds of prey which means they alert to birds. Which means Saga sits in the back yard and bird watches.
#bark bark bark#she doesn't bark at them just watches#looser than a pointer but it's kinda similar and I suspect it's a very similar genetic behavior#which brings the interesting idea of dogs have some genes that mean 'look at birds' because we can selectively breed for bird traits#also interestingly Moxie and Ever both stand on point at times but neither cares about birds so perhaps pointing and bird watching#aren't directly linked but DO interact with each other#much to think about

Y’all ever get frustrated with yourself wondering why you can’t just be normal and enjoy social/friendly dog breeds because life would be so much easier if you did
#I had it in my head that maybe I’d enjoy a lab one day#I’ve been staying with three labs for the past few days and I am sooooo overstimulated#so I think that breed is out#one is more calm/mellow about affection but the other two are intense#they’re all working bird dogs and they’re really cool in that respect… I wish I naturally enjoyed the breed more :(

Quick Question again
If you Rook was a dog, then what breed? And what about the type of bird? Aaand maybe cat breed? 👁️👁️
Spite said that coffee smelled like Lucanis in one of the cutscenes, sooo What does Rook smell like to him?
What is favorite companion quest for your Rook?
*cracks knuckles* let's get this bread
Dog Breed: something very energetic and intelligent, clever and loyal, like an Australian Shepard! (or a husky for the simply image of Viago bringing a stray puppy home and then having to live with the fact that she can scream like a person and she does it all the time for fun) but Renn hates sitting still and needles Viago for a contract all the time when she's left to her own devices for more than a few days lol
Bird Species: some kind of corvid is the easy answer, like a Jackdaw! taking anything and everything shiny does match up with Renn looting every location the gang visits for an extra coin lmao but if we're going more for a pet bird, then something in the parrot family I think. like uhh, a yellow-naped amazon! they're social and vocal, but moody which lines up with Renn swapping from very easy going and nice to burying a dagger in your heart without warning!
Cat Breed: similar to the dog breed, so something like a bengal perhaps! it's another high energy breed, it's good at adapting, and it loves to climb which matches Renn very well~ I haven't gotten to write about that habit much, but if you can't find Renn she's either out on a run or you haven't started looking up enough
Spite Smells: First and foremost is her perfume! Red Berries and Jasmine is quite a sweet scent, not as bright as a citrus perfume but it's up there. Underneath that, though, it starts depending on Renn's mood. Sometimes she smells more metallic, like blood and blades, or that sharp burn of the ozone before a storm when she's using her magic a lot, or the sour decay of the poisons she keeps hidden in her gear. And of course, the usual Crow scents of leather and blade oil! Renn comes across as very sweet to him, with complex, sharp scents lying underneath for him to untangle.
Favorite Companion Quest: She's a fondness for Lucanis' quests simply because she loves having the excuse to return to the Crows and bother Viago, but with how dire and depressing the actual content of those quests are, she's not having fun with it. So, I think she actually has a lot more fun with Emmrich's quests. It's a whole new culture and approach to magic and, after finding Lucanis has a +1 in Spite, she kind of takes her previous fear and hesitation for necromancy and spirit calling and drops it over a cliff. She wants to learn more about spirits so she can understand Spite better! And she found a kind of solace in visiting the Memorial Gardens with the Professor and taking part in the Rites. Renn has a complicated relationship with her past before the Crows, but she never really dealt with what happened (or her father's death when she was little), she just pushed it all aside and threw herself into training and work. So I think that specific quest helped her find a way to let it go, to "put it to rest" in a sense.
thank you for more questions!!!
#I haven't looked at actual tarot card meanings in years so I have to do some research before I can answer that ask#but it Is in the works <3#also if you've ever smelled the Bath and Body Works Vampire Blood Halloween candle#congrats you essentially know what Renn's perfume smell like#I wanted to keep it to 2 scents so the plum got left out#but it's one of my favorite candles and it felt a little fitting for my assassin lmao#I had to look at so many birds I didn't have a specific one in mind for her#and she kind of got saddled with my favorite dog and cat breeds that I can never have (I am so tired all the time lol)#but they do fit her a lot so! happy accident lmao#the favorite quest was a real thinker!!! thank you for that challenge#but meeting Emmrich forced Renn to get really okay with a lot and while she tries to joke it away#it really wasn't until they visit the Gardens that she starts to /get it/#anyways I hope you enjoy just how much I write out and think about for these things lmao#feels like the responses should be short but I am a chronic yapper#Renn#Renn de Riva#Dragon Age#Dragon Age Veilguard#DAV#ask#anon#asks

how did you get into bird dogs? do you prefer britannies for any reason? i have a bird dog mix myself and she is so fun. she got me into hunting breeds.
also, what high value treats do you enjoy using? i try to use veggies and chicken but want to add variety.
Mav was my first brittany and I picked the breed basically on a coin flip. I had some criteria (size, biddability, general temperament, activity level) that several breeds met and I ended up picking brittanies out of my short list because I had read a book I liked as a kid that had a brittany in it. It's not a strategy I would recommend but it worked out for me!
I was back and forth on gundog breeds when I got Aurora, but ultimately I stayed with britts because I love a pointing breed (a different flavour of biddability that I find extremely fun to work with), they are the perfect size for me, and they are CKC recognized so I can do CKC events. Other breeds I considered to a high degree were blue picady spaniels (too big), field spaniels (not a pointer, maybe too chill for my lifestyle, hard to get a puppy in Canada), boykin spaniels (not a pointer, not CKC recognized), and French spaniels (hard to get into, very closed breed). I was actually on waitlists for BPS and the FS but backed out for one reason or another. I was following Rory's kennel (new breeder's first litter) because I liked her puppy raising efforts and wanted to see how the puppies grew up, so when Aurora was offered to me, it was a pretty easy yes.
I lived up in Yellowknife with Mav for a few years and hunting (esp hunting with versatile dogs) is extremely common. I was able to go ptarmigan hunting and duck hunting a couple times and it was cool. I worked on easy gundog skills with Mav as much as I could. He found a lot of the work extremely reinforcing though (searching fields, retrieving) and it quickly became my favourite thing to work him in.
When I got Aurora I really wanted to encourage behaviours that would help her be the best possible field dog, things like confidence and appropriate ranging and recall. She's still a baby and we both have a lot to learn, but it's been super fun so far. It's really rewarding to watch her do what she was made to do and enjoy it with every fibre of her being.
For high value snacks, I usually pick up a different option every time I do groceries. This week I had clearance pre-cooked turkey breast strips, the week before that I had discount aged cheddar cheese cubes, the week before that I had rotisserie chicken I found in my freezer. You get the idea. I keep freeze dried raw for training at home or on leash, but use the good stuff for recall and retrieves in the wild.
Here's a little croissant for reading this far:

#dogblr#about aurora#rory borealis#bird dog training#the breed definitely isnt for everyone#but it was a great choice for me#especially rory#im so glad i didnt end up switching breeds

The tragic duality of absolutely adoring and wanting rodents and rabbits and birds but also absolutely adoring and wanting terriers and sighthounds and field line spaniels...
#like it can be done lol i've had rats and mice and my bird in a house with multiple cats and homes with dogs without issue#(have also had all of these creatures in a home with a constant rotation of dogs of all breeds i've been dogsitting with no issue)#you just have to not be stupid about it. but still

just transitioning would not fix Kendall Roy but becoming a rich lady in an agatha christie mystery who gets to dramatically faint when the lights come back on and there's a dead body in the dining room 100% would
#it would fix her#succession#kendall roy#she would be up to some shady shit but not murder but poirot would drag it out anyways before revealing the killer#some inept industrial espionage probably also her pearls would get stolen as a part of an another red herring side plot#other possible career options for post finale kendall:#a cartoon villainess who idk does evil enviromental crimes like has little robots spilling oil at birds or whatever#and is defeated on a weekly basis by a duo of plucky kids and their robot dog#i have ideas but we must go deep#tomgreg are already cartoon villains they can be her henchmen and kendall can keep putting them in funny matching outfits#she could also start breeding pedigree cats and become america's number one catlady
