Hi do you have any Sky WIPs you can share a snippet of?
👁️👁️
🫶
Hi Ace!! Hell yeah I do!!!
Here's the summary (and a bit) of the fic I'm currently working on! It's called "scholarly stabbings". You can guess why, lol. Thanks for the ask, hope you enjoy 🫶
---
Sky flops back down with a loud groan of distress. Hyrule covers his mouth, eyes glittering.
“My pr’fessor’s gonna give me negative marking for the blood,” he whimpers into his arms, both crossed over his face. “My essay. Captain, my essay.”
“It's okay, buddy,” Warriors says, somewhere between amused and deeply concerned. “I'm sure they'll forgive you for being stabbed.”
“The ink's gonna bleed.”
“It's definitely bleeding,” Hyrule says.
“You need to get your priorities straight, Chosen.”
“I hate essays,” Sky moans. “They're so hard to write. And - and now there's a hole in it. Why did - why my essay? Why there? There was so much more of me to stab…”
“That's… that's not positive thinking,” Legend says over Warriors' shoulder.

Wait. Is it called the time knife because it's a time travel chart shaped like a knife... I'm a bit slow apparently
So it’s a reference to the Philosophy show of all time, The Good Place. Here is the clip:

Time Knife: a trillion different realities folding into each other like thin sheets of metal forming a single blade.
So… yeah. ⏳🗡️

congrats everyone!! such an awesome time :D
July LU Write-a-Thon: 351,092 Words in One Day!
On July 1, we hosted our second monthly LU Write-a-thon (organized by @not-freyja and @hotcheetohatredwastaken and joined by their new mods @noorahqar, @a-manicured-lawn, and @winterfen). The purpose of this event was to write as many productive words—words that furthered yourself, the LU writing community at large, or your own stories—within 24 hours as humanly possible.
We had a whopping 90+ participants as opposed to our previous 16 - none of us expected such a large turnout, and were suitably unprepared 😅 We’ll definitely be making a lot of changes to accommodate that many people during the next Write-a-Thon, occurring August 1st. Thank you all for your patience!
But, until next month, here’s the awards and titles earned by each participant, as voted upon by the Discord server through an anonymous survey. The mods read through all your hundreds of submissions (thank you guys so much!) and picked either the highest voted title or the funniest custom submission for each person, as we found appropriate. First up is the winner’s circle, then the clubs, and then everybody else in alphabetical order right below this readmore!
The Winner’s Circle (5 Most Wordiest)
20,037 “Writer of All Time” and “Most Likely to Make 1K become 100K” (As can be seen in all its glory in your Aspects AU) @tashacee: You took advantage of Freyja and Cheeto’s beefing about who would be first and snapped up the win right from under their noses. Well played!
20,011 “Writer of Some of the Time” and “Pen and Paper (Scritch... Scratchy?)” @hotcheetohatredwastaken: Missed the mark by juuust a bit, for the second time in a row. Cheeto, you suck. (:3 –Cheeto) (Qar wrote this, for reference!). Also wrote for most of the marathon on pen and paper!
17,491 “Writer of Last Time” (for winning last month and then failing to defend their title) and “The FourShadow-er of all Time” (for the unholy amount of Chekov’s Guns they leave lying around loaded in their docs) @not-freyja: you are the most autistic about Legend. Nerd.
13,203 “Will Make You Cry” and “Captain of the Twilight Angst Tag on Ao3” @somer-writes: Boosting the Twilight economy, and we’re all happy about it. Also the second-funniest person in the server, with the second-most stars!
13,000 “AU Collector” and “Four Enjoyer” @zarvasace: Whether they're heroes with disabilities, space rangers, or vampires, if Mina wrote it, the boys will be written well.
Clubs
Now while everyone’s accomplishments as individuals were nothing to sneeze at, teamwork does in fact make the dream work. A few lovely people made a couple of equally lovely groups, either by their own choice or as assigned by peer review.
Aimed for the Funny Numbers Club
“Literally Satan” @allwayswildchild: with exactly 6666 words, you deserve every bit of this cursed title.
“Lawn Blart Mall Cop” and “Qar's Mom in a Moment of Weakness Apparently (And Then Qar’s Sister in a Moment of Un-Weakness)” @a-manicured-lawn: The latter explains itself. Apparently, the vision of Lawn segwaying around is amusing. [Some people just can’t appreciate the beauty of a white shirt, tie, and glorious moped… ~Lawn]
“The Reincarnated” @defenestration13: Hadn't written in six months but then reappeared to write multiple thousand words. Good job.
“Multimedia Powerhouse” @passerinesoncaffeine: The art, the writing, Raven's got it all! Painting, analyzing music, commenting, whatever you touch it turns to gold.
“Dark Miette” goes to @rebornofstars: An inside joke that I don’t understand. Also thought you should know that you got [insert bee pun].
“The Memer” and “Literally Wind” @savimatteo2810: These are related.
“The Quoter” @whatvioletdoes-blog: For spending the event harvesting quotable quotes for their chat-fic.
(freyja overshot all potential funny numbers, but is a member at heart)
Most Likely to Get Fangirled (Gender Neutral) Over Club
“Literally Hyrule” @across-violet-skies: Also called the Spunky Sidekick and a calming jasmine tea type person. Hopefully your ghost pepper recovery goes well.
“The Snippeter” @imperialkatwala: For sharing so many snippets to us hungry folk. Thank you kindly.
“Friend Shaped” @polynomialpandemic: A friend to all. Also a “Snippeter” - thank you for feeding the masses!
“Four Tormentor” @undertheopensky: For really obvious reasons. Also managed to make Freyja scream for 10 minutes with your mere presence alone!
Other Friend Groups
“Sad Wet Cat Club” @cinis0 and @lunaopus, you two seem to have nominated one another, so you get this club all to yourselves! However, I would love to know what the talk of forgetting that the Queen died was about…. (Qar has requested to be an honorary member of this club)
@awildsilver and @four-eyed-nerd, you two get to come together as “Four-Eyed-Nerd’s Rat” and “AWildSilver’s Cat,” which is I think our favorite group of all in this month’s running. I do have some additional questions for you two, however, about a mention of the bee movie as an original work (allowed as long as it’s not copy pasted and also hilarious) for you Wild and the title “Honey I shrunk the Links” for you, Four.
The Community Support Team
“The Commentator of All Time” @1-renegade: To directly quote, “Ain't NOBODY give better feedback and comments than lawlessland.”
“Will Make You Cry” @artsy-anontmity: Anonymity is the sweetest and kindest commenter in existence! SHE. WILL. MAKE. YOU. CRy. Writes the nicest comments and they make me (and apparently several others) cry
“The Encouragement Itself” @cat-at-a-writing-desk: For encouraging others to reach their goals. We appreciate you!
“Drill Sergeant” @gintrinsic-writing: Made Qar get 5k and scared everyone else into writing. (You did it! I got 5k! The fear (with funny intonation) dragged me over the finish line -Qar)
“Drawer of A Thousand Words” @la-sera: Ruler of the Legend and Hyrule brotherhood, inspirer of writers, and the spreader of so much love with your art this Fan Joy July with the art you spent the marathon working on. Can’t wait to see it all as the month goes on.
“The Reader of all Time” @life-in-winter: Or as you all probably know her, passerine44, the writer of the best ao3 comments of all time. Thea, you walk into a digital room and every writer there makes heart eyes at you. Cannot wait to read the writing you’ve been working on (and leave a comment) to return the favor.
“The Respondent of All Time” @silvrash-797: Silvrash had over four months of unanswered ao3 comments that she caught up with, congrats!
“Lives up to the Screen Name” @sunny-porridge: To quote: “Sunny is 100% a ray of sunshine and anyone who says otherwise can FIGHT ME” and I think we all agree.
“100% Bunny Accurate.” @toyouhellohowareyou: Who is The Bunny Lord [Beloved Pet and Bunny Boy (Legend) Himself].
“The Wildest Supporter.” @twilightangel83: Supported people and sent a lot of Wild emojis, so much so that we started picturing you as Wild!
“Poet” and “Master of the Shrimp Check” @winterfen: Writes good poetry, and also made sure that everyone was appropriately fed, hydrated, and rested for this event.
Transfer Students
“I don’t work here, Lady” goes to bArk who neither has a tumblr nor writes for this fandom, but showed up and had fun anyways. Thanks for joining us!
“He Who Finished His Book” goes to jr_for_potus44 (not on Tumblr). Congrats!
“Split Screen” goes to @straight-outta-hobbiton for writing two fics on two screens at the same time, neither of which were LU. Frightening.
The Silent Ones
@pelicanpig, @mmelete, @wayfayrr, @raeofsky, @summaryscar @sunkissedkales: You guys came, you wrote, you did not elaborate. How mysterious your aura is (positive, deeply positive.)
"The Almost Silent One" @the-au-collector: Talked before and after, but not during the event. Probably too busy writing, or busy in general - good job either way!
Everybody else!
“Frequent Flier (WPM)” @anime-obsessed: For participating in so many sprints. Also earned “vocaloid enjoyer.”
“Keyboard Warrior” @august-the-friend: You fought autocorrect and lost 3-0, but it was a valiant fight nonetheless. You did great.
“Artist turned Writer” @aurora-boreas-borealis: Took a break from streaming to write—a huge shout out for all your hard work and your help with colors! (~the actual pigments, not the Links ~Lawn)
“Literally Sun” @beesandhoney1219: Warmer than sunlight, sweeter than sugar, and absolutely obsessed with Sky’s girlfriend.
“Most Likely to Include Raccoons in their Fic” @bittirsweeteer: They Who Has Given Legend Espresso (thank you for your service).
“Last Minute Vidow” @deleetrix: Something that should always be encouraged. Thank you for feeding us.
“Stargiver” @emberlylion: For starring in a lot of posts, especially cat pics. Thank you for your service.
Move over Time, @estelian-01 “Will Fight Majora and Win” and then go back to studying.
“Studious Student Who (has not) Studied” @gerudoevernight: Self nominated for “Studious Student who Studied” for hitting their goal while in school. The mod team disagreed with the accuracy of that title and affectionately chose this one instead. Good job hitting your goal!
“The Outliner” @gia-d: Accidentally wrote a first draft. Also think it should be noted that everyone is convinced you either could kill a god or that you carry one around in your pocket.
“Onomatopoeia Outrage” @halo-burns: Who debated the word “ow” so hard they inflicted it on the people around them.
“The Scholar” @irenkaferalkitty: For her extensive collection of well-researched data, presented in charts, documents and yes, excel sheets. We appreciate you.
“Most Improved” @labyrinthdancer: Their writing has improved a lot since they started posting! also they write really dark twilight & the chain fics. Being a new writer is scary, but they kept at it and are doing so well!
“Writer of Most Cursed Victorian Child” aka their take on Ravio, is @lele5429 with their first ever fic, which is as gorgeous in words as your art is in ink.
“The Hype Man (gender neutral)/Moral Support” @lemoncatssss: For all the encouragement that you gave others. Also the cat photos. Especially the cat photos.
“The accidental friend acquirer” @lennsart: For somehow befriending literally every single person you talk to.
“Severe Case of Clacking” @lerikwrites: You know why. Pennies in a washing machine my friend.
“Hyrule Hurter” goes to @linkiscool33: We all have the blorbo we love to put in the blender, but no one blends Rulie like you do.
“Marcus Actually Writes!?” @marcusdoodlesalot: For a second month in a row, some of us are still befuddled that Marcus is actually a writer, and not just an artist. Hard to believe that someone can have that much talent in both fields.
“Soup Soup Soup Soup Soup (Soup Soup Soup Soup Soup)” @marsnoodlesoup: I... do not know what this means. Congrats, it seems you’re soup.
“The Veteran” @musical-chan: For sharing stories of the early days of fandom. Back in my day but the most positive way possible
“Artist Turned Writer” @mysticstars105: Came out and wrote a whopping 400 words, which is so many words especially when you’re new. Gold Star!
“Art Fight Pre-Gaming” @nebulapaws: For their talk of Art Fight. Hope you have fun participating this month!
“Resident Audiophile” @needfantasticstories: Not just for writing with speech-to-text all day, but for your constant enthusiastic screaming about Epic the musical.
“Most likely to fight God and Win” and “The Modderrrrrr” @noorahqar: Who is actually Sky. Not with the sleepy part though. She actually wrote so much about Sky that he stole all her sleepy. Number one on the starboard, with the proud title of MVM (Most Valuable Mod) for sticking the landing as midnight hit. Also the one with “The Most Sigmas to Grindset” whatever… whatever that means. (Please help what does that mean?)
“Picture Perfect Exhaustion” @nyastri: Their PFP (Four Doubled Over, hands on knees) combined with the announcement they'd reached their writing goal at the end of the marathon really just sold the picture for me. Well done.
“The Sleepy One” @ocha-blue: who justifiably went to bed as soon as they finished. (Hope you're recovered by now.)
“First Time Fic Writer” @peepthatbish: for breaking into the fic scene and boosting morale for our mod team, especially Lawn. We appreciate you!
“Slow And Steady (WPM)” @pokegeek151: Who was chugging away all day long.
“Doomed by the Narrative” @ra-archives: Google docs acting up, cat sitting on lap, and yet you persisted. Good job.
“My Little Friend Who I Love (This Is Qar Btw) (This Is Part Of The Title)” and “Wordsmith” @rosehipandroots: This is a direct copy paste from your submissions, Rose. Hope you enjoy it. But your amazing descriptions really make you a wordsmith. “The SkyBoy Enjoyer of All Time” @sapphicseasapphire: for your lovely art and writing of the boy!
“Task Succeeded Successfully” @screaming-but-i-have-four-swords: was an artist turned writer that tried to write words, and did! Good job.
“Artist Turned… More Artist” @seaotter-17: We were told you write descriptions like a poet, but in this event, you were most recognizable by your drawings of Nina the cat. Thank you for sharing.
The “Person with a Passion for Pudding” (which is definitely an inside joke I do not understand, so I hope it makes you laugh) @somanyfanficssolittletime: Thanks for participating!
“The Fic Reccer of all Time” @staring-at-a-blank-page: For recommending so many fics, their own and others, up to read. Thank you!
“The Drabbler” @tenderleavesbob: For their lovely drabbles, of which they wrote around 10k of. The title is appropriate - it seems your drabbles have taken Tumblr (and the participants in this survey) by storm!
“100% Bunny Accurate Fiction” @toyouhellohowareyou: writer of the most rabbit-fact-checked fics of all time by our own Bunny Lord [Beloved Pet and Bunny Boy (Legend) Himself]
“The Podficcer of All Time” @unexpectedstormy: For podfic making, promoting, and educating. And if that wasn’t enough fae is also our very own “Dragon Tamer” who spent the event working on their HTTYD WIP!
“The Dashshunder” @vivalaplutothedachshund: For sharing your lovely menace of a dog Pluto with us all. We also appreciate you both in the chats and in our rampage to give PolynomialPandemic 109 hugs.
“Mod Emotional Support. We love you” @wanderlustmagician: You know what you did, and Cheeto’s firstborn deservedly belongs to you.
“Word Weaver” and “Fanfiction Foul---was writing at work instead of working” @weavingstarlight: Your words sparkle as bright as you do, glitter jar.
“Literally First (also shared cat pics)” @witchdoctor39: Even Hylia can’t hold a candle to how much you love that poor poor man!
Thank all of you for participating, we appreciate each and every one of you so so so much! Please note that we had 90+ participants, and as such, there is probably guaranteed to be some mistakes on the list above. If you find any typos or pronoun goofs or anyone that was put on the list twice or missing or under the wrong name or put under the wrong name or any error that comes with having different discord and tumblr names or if you were left off the list in error or if you want to request a different name than the one you received or you want to be put into or removed from one club or another or anything else that could have gone wrong—please feel free to contact @HotCheetoHatredWasTaken or @not-freyja with your concerns here on tumblr!
Again, a big thank you to everyone for coming to the event from all of us on the mod team! Can’t wait to see you guys next month! And stay tuned---there will be another post with more information about the next event within the next couple of weeks!

Hi again, @twistedstoryteller!
Okay, LU recs off the top-ish of my head in a sort of organized-ish order:
AUTHORS!
Angst, Action, and Mixed:
Faerule and the No Good Very Bad Road Trip by ImperialKatwala, PolynomialPandemic is a great "Chain Meets Hyrule" fic.
@gintrinsic-writing is phenomenal. A gem. I love all of it, but check the tags to find ones you're comfortable with. AO3 Blood Like Yours is my personal favorite, and the sequel Like Fire in Your Veins by @pocketramblr are both about Hyrule's Blood Curse from Adventures of Link. M for Violence for most of them, but check tags to be sure. If you like it, consider also...
Protector of the Golden Power by Sillus Hyrule centric but he has a different secret.
@somer-writes has a lot of great short one shots, some darker than others. My personal favorite is a sort of character study of the boys at their lowest and how they recover called "Depletion"
For a Sliver of Sunlight by tirsynni: Warrior's dedication to his brothers makes him question his title as Hero.
What are You to a God Slayer by Secretlysheikah BAMF Sky
Brethren in a Cradle by Skyward_Arpeggio BABY!!!! It is adorable, if a bit sad at the start.
Always Darkest Before the Dawn (Linked Universe Whumptober 2023) by Skyward_Arpeggio because in general they don't go above T ratings and write excellent fics.
this year it taught me (lost and ambitious) by qar Also EXCELLENT writer. "Sky has a separate moment with each member of the team"
Whumptober 2023 by Arecaceae Great fics! Plus, "Each story will have warnings in the tags and the story notes as well as a 0-5 whump rating. The ratings will be relative to my writing, so my 5 might not be equivalent to someone else's 5. I don't write MCD, extreme gore, non-con, or extreme emotional angst."
Major's Whumptober 2023 by major_de_speed Major's are also quite clean despite the M rating which is more about the violence.
Linkeduniverse Shorts by Skyward_Arpeggio LU Short fics
A Royal Castletown Wedding by Skyward_Arpeggio This story is so good!!!!!!!!!
Whumptober 2022 by Arecaceae more great fics, rated T.
LU Whump Dump by UnexpectedStormy (ArtemiStorm) need AO3 account to read, but worth it! Linked Universe Whumpy One-Shots, rated T.
There's one I'm missing, and when I find it I'll add it here. It involves a cursed magical artifact that Legend messes with... it's intense.
Fluffier Fics:
Frosty Reception by Skyward_Arpeggio "Four’s glad to finally be home again, and he’s not the only one happy at his return." Cute fic!
S’more Stories by Ginger375 "A collection of drabbles and mini-fics for LUtober! Day 31: Costumes"
Sentiment by Arecaceae
nine heroes, one spirit by Imjustherefortheangst, uncleskyrule (unclemoriarty) tons of great short fics, all with G-T ratings
Finding Family by Tashacee "AU where Wild's scars are a lot worse and he isn't used to interacting with people. The Chain think their new brother is dope af and are determined to make him feel at home."
My Heart's Forsaken Me by sister_dear "Four looses his sword in the heat of battle, and it's picked up by someone else... Time’s aren’t the only secrets coming to light, and the gang discovers they still have a thing or two to learn from each other."
Ambush at the Bridge by JinxedRuby Very action and healing oriented fic, multiple perspectives on one event.
Dark Clouds on the Horizon by CubanCracker62 "he Chain ends up in Wild's era shortly before the events of TotK."
There are worse ways to stay alive by EliotRosewater one shots rated T.
Crack Fics:
Misplaced Heroes by notOK this had me busting out laughing SO MANY TIMES!
Peak Gremlin Energy by defenestration_nation "Fics focusing on various Links being chaotic gremlins"
Not Necessarily LU, but Adjacent or just LoZ:
Blood of the Hero by Skye_the_Lofty_Nutcase: (Wild) Link's parents have to step in to save him when the Shrine of Resurrection gets damaged. His parents are so well written, and Abel makes appearances in LU-related/adjacent fics, The Many Misadventures of Dad Squad and Dad Squad AU by Nancyheart, Silver_Captain82403, Skye_the_Lofty_Nutcase
which is part crack and part angst, mostly lighthearted.
Don't Worry Man, I'm from the Yiga Clan: Link makes a Yiga friend due to being a delightful chaos gremlin.
Feature MCD... but might be worth it:
And Still the Cradle Blooms by Solistrix: GORGEOUS literary masterpiece. The writing is unreal. It's descriptions and emotions are incredible. This is more like finding the meaning in eventual death, so of the three here I suspect you'll like this one best as far as not being too hurt by the character's mentioned end.
This is an Adjuration: I'll be real, this is full of action and excitement but yes, it has MCD and is making me cry, but it's also REEEEAAALLY good!
Blood Drops on Roses by HotCheetohatred Fantastic storytelling! Wild centric, Twi is big brother but from day one of Wild's journey. Unreliable young Wild as narrator is an absolute delight. Unfinished, no MCD yet, but it's in the tags so no promises.
Modern AUs for not-big-on-modern-au fans:
As a fellow not-seeker of modern AUs, I personally have enjoyed the following
@skyward-floored Incredibles AU
Wild’s Wolf by HotCheetoHatred "Modern AU where young Wild is a feral forest child, raised by Wolf Twilight. He is captured, separated from Twilight, and put under observation. Time helps him escape." Unfinished, and I admit personal bias here because HotCheetoHatred is my BETA reader.
ARTISTS!!!
@ovegakart: amazing action, gut-busting humor, and captivating storytelling! Does comics
@la-sera: beautiful, ethereal, and gorgeous illustrations and a great storyteller, loves downfall duo but does every one of the boys justice
@dfanart: HILARIOUS and such heartfelt emotions on them boys.

AN INTRODUCTION TO "The Loving River", AKA Nazya's story!!
this story takes place in a historic setting in iraq, no specific years (for now) so everything here is subject to some change in the future.
this post is just an introduction to the main stuff and characters in the story! (all under cut, and fair warning, its a lot)
Shanya Al-Malaika:
shanya is a 29 year old poet, going by the pen name "Ta'abata Sharan" and taking on the image of a man so she can comfortably write about her love for nazik, and to be taken more seriously in the world of poetry. she is the mortal daughter of the goddess shaahida, also referred to as "The Witness", and ill be explaining more about her and her lore later.
to make a long story short, shaahida never wanted a child, and so shanya's coming into the world was a complete accident, and to shaahida, a shameful mistake. with that, she sends off newborn shanya to live with her aunt, saabira, another goddess, this one referred to as "Patience". saabira had a mortal husband and five mortal children with him, so the choice to send shanya there was easy. shaahida was sure saabira, with all her patience and knowledge of children, would be able to take care of shanya better than shaahida ever could. but of course, if she was going to give away shanya like this, shed have to gain something out of it too. she slashed baby shanya across the mouth with her divine nails, drawing blood, and leaving a scar. a tie between them both, stronger than their familial connection. wherever shanya was, shaahida would be able to keep watch, and when the time comes, shaahida would be able to use shanya as the vessel for her plan (which i'll discuss later,, maybe.)
shanya lives with saabira's family for most of her life in dhi qar, where she meets nazik, a girl around her age, and eventually, falls for her. the two are worlds apart though, for while saabira prefers to live humble and poor despite her divinity, making shanya live as a young sheep herder, nazik came from a wealthy family. middle upper class, to be exact. one day, however, nazik leaves dhi qar suddenly, and without much explanation, leaving shanya all alone. what made it all worse was this coming directly after a major fight/argument between the two. (this is insanely simplified, for a lot of stuff happens between them here.)
shanya continues to live with saabira, until the age of 16. when one day, as she on the carriage of saabira's oldest son, shaheen, she began to tinker with the oud guitar he always had with him. she strummed a few notes and smiled to herself, preparing to play a small tune. the carriage soon hit a bump, and the oud, with all its heaviness, slipped out of shanyas hands and fell off the carriage, tumbling down into the nearby river, and breaking. shaheen went off the rails at this, screaming at shanya about how expensive the oud was, and going as far as slap her and push her out of the carriage, telling her to walk home instead. its then, when shes trying to walk home, in the most vaguest in terms, she ends up dying. very unfortunate, and a horrible look for shaheen.
shaahida oversaw all of this. she was angered, not as a mother would be for a daughter, but a creator to a vessel. she transforms her own body to shanyas likeness, and makes it, in a way, a vessel for shanyas spirit to reside in for the time being. making daughter and mother, one and the same.
after saabira realizes what had happened, shanya's death, shaahida's work, she is frightened, and she does not tell shanya of what had truly happened to her. instead she grabs her and takes her towards kirkuk, where hashim, her uncle, and saabira and shaahidas brother, resides. hashim the god, also referred to as "The Punisher". after learning of what had happened to shanya, hashim takes her in, almost like his own daughter, and he is the one who teaches her of poetry and art and whatnot.
it is also hashim who sends 29 year old shanya out of kirkuk and to baghdad, along with her cousins, the twins jamil and jameela (also saabira's children), to gain more knowledge and more inspiration after she finds herself in a writing block. and that is where shanya meets nazik again after so long, which kickstarts the main story.
Nazik Al-Khafaji:
nazik is the 30 year old eldest daughter to jasim al-khafaji and his university sweetheart, nadeen. young nazik worked in a library with her mother until she was 14, before becoming a 'healer' or a doctor later into her adulthood. she has a younger brother, azra, only 4 years younger. nazik's mother had been a worshipper of saabira, one of the saabiroon, and as such, nazik aligned herself with that sect of worship too. and when push comes to shove, as an adult, nazik realizes she had been blessed by saabira with the power of healing. specifically, healing people with her own blood, something she couldve used much, much earlier.
jasim's family was quite a rich one, and yet, he distanced himself from them and went against his own family's wishes by marrying nadeen, and as such he did not inherit much of their wealth at all, and all the wealth naziks family did have came entirely from his own hard work and businesses in gold selling and jewelry making. nazik's family was originally from baghdad, however after jasim's falling out with his family, they packed their bags and moved to dhi qar when nazik was 6 and azra was 2, which is, of course, where nazik met shanya.
nazik quickly found herself enjoying shanya's company, and even introducing shanya to her brother, for a chance to get the girl to step out of her shell and meet new people, for nazik had noticed how lonely shanya seemed to be, with how all of her cousins were decades upon decades older than her, and having no free time to spend with her at all. nazik found herself skipping many of her classes to be with shanya, almost getting caught by her father many times, but she simply could not get away from her. in her free time she brought shanya books to read with her, though most of the time she sat by and listened to shanya play the oud, yes, the one she often borrowed from shaheen. nazik hadnt realized it, but she had fallen for shanya, hard and deep. one day, after returning home later than she should, after spending a night with shanya, she came back to find her mother dead. nadeen had been sick for years now, but nobody had expected her to die so suddenly. naziks life changed overnight. in the morning, she went to visit shanya one last time, a meeting which resulted in a huge useless argument, before nazik ran off, going home to finish her packing. that night, her, her brother, and her father took a carriage all the way to baghdad. she left shanya with no last goodbye, no last hug, and that is her one regret, though she does not blame herself.
jasim never quite made up with his family, his parents however begrudgingly gave him an estate to own in baghdad, which they settled in. as an adult, nazik was practically the only one working in the house. jasim had given up on life and on fatherhood after nadeen's death, forcing nazik to mother her own brother, and to grow up faster than she shouldve. and while jasim was useless, azra picked up traveling as a hobby, untied and free of all burdens, he was almost never home, and always off doing his own thing outside of iraq, leaving nazik to labor on her own, completely oblivious to the exhaustion she was facing, for she hid it all from him.
nazik, of course, has her own set of people in baghdad, and one of them was a pen pal, jameela, who she did not recognize as shanyas cousin, and whom she had urged to come to baghdad to meet. jameela had of course come to baghdad with her twin brother jamil and her cousin shanya. however, shanya and nazik would not stumble upon eachother until much, much later after shanyas coming to baghdad.
Shaahida (Al-Malaika):
shaahida, the witness, was the second born goddess from "The Creator", coming only after her eldest sister, huda, "The Gift". sources speculate she was born from The Creator's left eye, to bear witness over humanity, and to help her brother, hashim, the punisher, who was born right behind her, in trials, so he may adequately punish both mortals and their divine siblings alike.
of course it must be explained that The Creator is the one true god of the universe, having created it all with humans and all. in their divine eternalness, they split themselves into 99 different pieces, and the one last 100th piece would be created when all 99 pieces set aside their differences and finish their business on earth, and come together to create a new "creator". which is to say, the 99 lesser gods created were much weaker in comparison to The Creator, having a limited set of skills, and being very close to human like with their feuds and problems and personalities. some say there is no way all 99 of them would ever come together to become whole again, for each of them held such wildly different ideologies, and often butted heads with eachother. sometimes mortals wonder if they truly did come from one beings.
each god has their own set of followers that follow certain rules for worship. some gods have easier rules than others, some want all the worship, some want none. while, worshipping one god means you believe in the existence of the 98 remaining, it does not necessarily mean you believe in their coming together again to be one, and it does not mean you believe in them coming from one being. those beliefs depend on the individual and the family they hail from. there is however another religion made from these using all these factors (believing in all gods, their coming from one being and their eventual unity) called "Istiqbal", in the way that its followers await the future for the 'inevitable' unity of these gods.
that being said, shaahida was never one to love her job. as the witness for the punisher, she did not last long. she kept it up merely 3 millennia before giving it up, opting to wander the world meaninglessly for a few couple of centuries, before settling in a temple and watching people worship at her feet all day. along the way, she found herself obsessing with a mortal girl, a girl named batool, and a worshipper of hers. she possessive as much as she was obsessive, and batool did not by any means hate the attention. until one day, when she revealed to shaahida that was to get married to a man soon. of course, that angered shaahida greatly, and with her anger came eyes on them, and the public soon found out about their situation. it was not homosexuality itself that was forbidden, but the act of mingling with mortals at the time was. hashim came, with his divine punishment, and stoned them, though whether he truly wanted to or not was debated. some even said he had someone else come and punish them in his stead. shaahida was hung up and stoned for a whole year, before her mortal lover which of course died before her. after her punishment, shaahidas reputation was tainted forever. humans misunderstood the punishment, thinking it for homosexuality, and quickly forbid it. which, in turn, made shaahida a symbol for homosexuality, and specifically, lesbian love. she would gain a few followers for this, though not many, and all worshipped her in secret. for the next few centuries or millennia, shaahida wandered aimlessly amongst the earth in a disguise, though she did not dare get close to any mortal during that time.
until one day, it suddenly became allowed to get with mortals. a lot of time had passed, and most of her siblings had slowly but surely been becoming more lax on many things. it was frustrating, to think that if her and batool's love was delayed a few mere centuries, it wouldve blossomed to fruition.
shaahida let herself out again, and began to mingle once more with the mortals. she met a writer one day, a man who calls himself abd al sahib. without knowing of her divinity, he spoke to her of his want to write a book about the witness. she smiled, thinking it was flattering. the two got closer, though she did not love him in the way she loved batool, nor in the way lovers loved eachother. he however, was obviously in love and head over heels. and he was not stupid, he soon learned of her divinity and her being the subject of his book, which only made him get closer to her. a series of events unfolds, many that were out of shaahidas control, and she finds herself bearing a child, a mortal child, shanya. for the first few months she had not truly processed it, until one day abd al sahib pointed it out, grinning with pride at the fact that he had impregnated her. her actions next had been a long time coming, she had enough. she killed abd al sahib, which, of course, was a sin. for gods could not murder their subjects and humans in general. it was fine however, for she hid all the clues. and when she brought shanya into the world, she was disgusted. not specifically by shanya, but the events that led up to her birth.
she sends shanya away and goes into hiding, hoping hashim would not find this out.
she loses herself completely in this loneliness and new found hopelessness she has dug herself into, and thinks the only way to get out of it and to be free is to simply become the new creator, to end the world prematurely. and maybe shanya was simply a tool given to her by the world to achieve this.
with that, her loneliness is broken only slightly, and only briefly by her meeting a new woman. nadeen. they got close over a short period of time in baghdad, before shaahida realized nadeen was already married, and already had a few month old daughter. it was shortly after this realization did nadeen leave for dhi qar with her husband and daughter, and shaahida never had much of a chance to see her again. and there she returns to solitude.

Oooooooh tell us about "Stede goes to QAR AU", I adore an alternate first meeting
I haven't written too much of this one! Hilariously, I didn't even write an outline, but I did write an a/n at the top saying that I came up with the same beats as @amuseoffyre independently, so presumably it hits some of the same beats as A Good Impression, lol. I did write the very beginning:
“For some inexplicable reason, my boss wants a word with you, Bonnet,” said Izzy Hands, leaning against the bar as though it had personally offended him. Stede’s first, irritated thought was to tell Hands exactly where he could get off, and furthermore, exactly where his boss could stick it. Anyone who hired someone like that angry little thug was obviously brainless and not worth talking to! It was just so frustrating that he couldn’t find anyone on his own wavelength, even in piracy – he’d really expected that becoming a pirate captain would solve that issue, but nobody seemed inclined to take him seriously. Perhaps in a one-on-one confab with this captain, though, he could make a different impression. Maybe the man would be as impressed as people were supposed to be – maybe this fantastic white suit would work on him. Maybe Stede could stride onto his ship and strongarm him into buying the hostage: that would kill two birds with one stone. So instead of telling Hands off, he tossed his head back and announced, “Well, then! Lucius, fetch the hostage. We’re going to meet Iggy’s boss.” “Izzy,” growled the man, so easily riled. “Whatever.” Stede went to drain his glass dramatically before remembering that it was nose juice, and stopped.

i should love you and i swear i do
Words: 5,555
“Stressed, yeah. She looks like she's boutta pluck her feathers out.” “Might've,” Warriors says. “Looking a bit thin over here.” “Well, that ain't good.” Twilight purses his lips. Warriors keeps petting the bird absently, neatly arranging her feathers into straighter lines. She hooks her giant beak around his shoulder. “I'll tell Sun about it. Sky's off recently, have ya noticed?” “I have, but I wasn't sure if I was imagining it,” Warriors says. He frowns thoughtfully. “Sky's normal and Sky's off are remarkably similar. I worry he's bottling something up.” Crimson lets out a mournful little noise. Twilight's face twists into a concerned grimace. “…Do ya remember how Sky said Loftwings are extensions of their souls?” “I do,” Warriors says. Realization dawns in his eyes. “Wait, do you think…” (Sometimes it's easy enough to put two and two together. What's difficult, Twilight is finding, is dealing with the answer found.)

Academic excerpts as a framing device
So in the ask game I've been enjoying today, @piratecaptainscaptainpirates asked an interesting bonus question about the academic blurbs I've been including at the start of each chapter of From the Firmament that I started answering on that post, but things quickly go long enough to merit their own post so here it is! The question (as such) was:
(also, I was just re-reading From the Firmament and I will never be over the academic article excerpts. They're just such a neat and fun inclusion! I'd love to hear about your process while writing them, how you go about working them in with each chapter's themes, etc.)
Whatever specific idea that spawned the fic itself is now lost to the vicissitudes of ADHD memory, but it was born in the context of a lot of Thinking About Tropes in ways that were new to me at the time. In particular I was interested in a different first meeting, specifically one that involved Stede actually visiting the Queen Anne or being taken captive by the QAR crew, and Ed having to react to Stede under those circumstances.
I started playing with a draft in that vein that I'm going to come back to at some point, but the other trope I got really interested in (both as a reader of fic and also just like, intellectually) was arranged marriage. Basically every version of that I could imagine required an entirely different world than the canon one, and once I started casting about for the right circumstances I started thinking about history a lot.
The academic blurbs started as a worldbuilding crutch when I was first trying to get the fic together at the beginning, and it was easier to gather all that kind of information in a "just the facts" format when starting out. They started taking on a more concrete form when my thoughts about history intersected with 1) stuff I'd read before, 2) stuff I was reading at the time, and 3) a joke that got out away from me.
1) Two of my favorite novelists period are K.J. Parker (who I've mentioned at least once in the fic's notes) and Guy Gavriel Kay, both of whom are obsessed in their own ways with history in a way that come through in their fantasy work in interesting ways. Kay tends to straightforwardly mention in-world history and historians, without mentioning specific works but making a point to draw attention to the fact that he's speaking from outside of the characters' perspectives. Here is an example passage from Kay's Under Heaven, which is presented in its own separate section between character pov chapters:
It was said to be the case that the emperor's favourite wife, regarded by some later historians dangerously subtle and too influential, played a role in encouraging him to keep that agreement--with a view to securing Kitai's boundaries.
Meanwhile Parker, who includes the names of specific fictional works and specific fictional historians, is more likely to bring up history in the flow of the narrative, when at any time the next sentence could discuss history and/or in-world philosophy:
Saloninus, in the Exceptional Dialogues, speculates about the end of the world. Will it be a great sundering, the sky falling on the land, or a great inundation, the sea gradually rising until the last treetop is drowned, or a great fire, or—Wrong. The end of the world is like this, and a deaf man who couldn’t lipread wouldn’t even realise what had just happened.
I enjoy both of these approaches despite (or maybe because of) their differences, and when you've read as much of either author as I have this sticks with you.
2) at some point after I started playing with the idea that would become FtF and the draft of Chapter 1 coming together, I picked up Parker's Sixteen Ways to Defend A Walled City. One thing I really appreciate about both Kay and Parker is that they almost never tell their stories from the perspectives of rulers (with the occasional exceptions of rulers who began as commoners and are usually, like canon Blackbeard, some combination of bored, overwhelmed, and made miserable by their position at the top). Kay tends to alternate between a few main characters, with individual one-off outsider POV sections, while Parker tends to have several characters whose alternating perspectives cover the whole story. In either case those characters usually span the middle 3/4 of their given society, neither prince nor pauper. People who aren't starving but aren't wealthy, mid-level bureaucrats, low-ranking government officials, generals who we met as lower officers, etc. This was true of that novel, and helped me arrive where I did with Ed and Stede in my WIP's world (yes they're both high ranking, but neither is a ruler as such because that didn't interest me). I think looking at them in the canon world and realizing where I wanted to put them in the world I was building led to point #3:
3) "Wouldn't it be funny if Stede was accidentally incredibly influential?"
In some ways that question is a central question (and joke) in the show itself. Like, this guy shows up and starts doing things differently because he can't help but be who he is, and his desire for the world to be a better place then spreads beyond anyone's wildest dreams? And yeah Stede isn't the catalyst for the end of traditional piracy in the world (that's the British Empire, their culpability as represented by the death of Izzy "The Avatar of Traditional Piracy" Hands), but he is the catalyst for it on board the Revenge. And the place he was able to influence intersects with the wider world after a series of accidents and unlikely events, and even without season 3 (😢) we can see the way the world is changing now.
And how that got out of hand was I started thinking about contexts where accidentally becoming important to history would be the most unexpected (and therefore the funniest) and ended up at republican-era Rome. Something about the pomp and circumstance and veneration of it all, and then here's my favorite little guy with his inherent kindness and autistic whimsy, ready to turn everything on its head.
And from there: the blurbs just became a means to an end and the best way to draw attention to that joke. I couldn't stop imagining people talking about Stede Bonnet the way they do about Rome and laughing about it, so here we are.
As for your process questions: I tend to write them on their own, whenever a given topic seems interesting or like something that could fit into the world. The blurb in chapter one kind of just sets the stage for things, but when I first wrote it it was significantly longer and was much more about the documents cache it mentions, because at the time I was thinking about historical document preservation. Since it needed to be much shorter and kick things off I just reshaped what I had to serve my purpose. I do still have plans to incorporate the rest of it later!
The second one came from thinking about Edward "Daddy Issues" Teach's relationship with violence and how having a father who is different from canon was still going to allow violence and daddy issues to still intersect. The idea for the arrows it describes is lovingly (if shamelessly) borrowed from the Parker book I mentioned above, in an attempt to create a situation where Ed could still have (misguided) ideas about the capacity for violence being something inherent about a person.
Lastly, I'll say that while I'm not intending the opening blurbs as obvious statements of purpose for the chapters that followed, they do fulfill a worldbuilding purpose relevant to where they show up in the story. So the first one is, by necessity, an introduction, and the second one is both meant to inform and remind everyone of the bad blood that exists between the parties trying to bridge the gap between them with the marriage. I won't say yet what the third one is but I will say that I've foundered way too long working on Chapter 3 because I didn't immediately establish which one I wanted to open the chapter with. So they're important scaffolding, important worldbuilding, and in the way of worldbuilding they'll be relevant to later things when those things come up.
Thank you so much for asking this question, it was super fun and helpful to nail all of this stuff down like this and get it out of my head!

Thank you so much!!! Mwah. I love you, oh victorian dog
A GIFT FOR @noorahqar!!!!! mwah
qar. qar. qar I am platonically kissing you on the mouth. happy birthday I love you. minecraft villager noises or whatever
preview under the cut :3
It started with a rainstorm.
Four was the first to go down, with a sharp, biting cough that rumbled in his chest. Everyone quickly ushered him to his bedroll, insisting that the smithy should rest and recover. Wild made soup, Warriors watched the fever, and Sky played the harp to soothe him to sleep.
Hyrule was next, with a bright red nose and the deepest eyebags anyone had ever seen on the traveler. He joined Four in the bedrest corner of their camp.
After that, it took out the rest of them quickly. Legend’s voice disappeared, Wild was sweaty and flushed, Twilight had thick, wet sneezes, Wind was congested… even Time was running a fever.
The only ones unaffected were Sky and Warriors.
Naturally, the two of them took up parenting duty. Warriors would fetch buckets of water while Sky cooked simple broths (it was the only thing the Skyloftian could consistently cook). They would re-wet and cool down rags, resting them across sweaty foreheads. Bowls of broth were handed out or hand-fed to those most affected by illness.
And their work paid off! Eventually, everyone began to recover. Four’s cough became lighter and less frequent, the redness in Hyrule’s nose faded, Legend’s voice returned… all of them healed, finally overcoming the illness.
…Well, except for Sky and Warriors. They finally succumbed to the sickness that had consumed the rest of the Chain for the past week, crumbling under the stress of caring for the others.
Time wet a rag, cooling it with Legend’s ice rod. Warriors leaned into the touch, sighing miserably. “Thanks, Sprite,” he croaked, voice hoarse.
“Of course.” The eldest Link sat beside his brother. “I’ve got you.” He ran a hand through the Captain’s hair soothingly. “Get some rest.”
“Mmhmm…” Warriors mumbled, eyes fluttering shut. “...Sprite… is Wind…?” He made a move to sit up, dazed with fever.
Time shushed him, holding Warriors’ shoulder down. “Wind’s fine. You, however, need to rest.”
The Captain nodded, hazed blue eyes blinking up at Time. “...Yeah. Yeah, I’ll…” He trailed off, exhaustion pulling at his eyelids. They slipped shut, Warriors’ head falling to the side as sleep overtook him.
Time sighed, adjusting the blanket to better cover Warriors. It was shaping up to be a chilly night, and that fever of the Captain’s wasn’t going to help.

OFMD Microfic: Freckles
Ed,
Hope you've been well. Haven't seen you around the Revenge in a while. I must say, breakfasts are a lot lonelier without your company. Hope you're well. God, I said that already. Hope to see you soon!
Maybe dinner tonight?
Yours, Stede Bonnet, The Gentleman Pirate
PS Lucius has been teaching me to sketch, I've included my attempt at drawing the Queen Anne. What do you think? That's you in the crow's nest, looking piratical and intimidating! Anyway, hope to hear from you soon. Or see you soon. Or both. Right.
Bonnet,
Where do you get off with your perfect gold hair and your thousands of freckles and your stupid cute notes…Jesus, and you expect me to just sit next to you and eat crumpets or whatever? You fed me a strawberry with your fucking fingers last week and then got confused when I asked if you wanted to take it to the bed nook?! You're a lunatic. You are driving me mental.
God, I probably shouldn't be writing this pissed off my mind, that fancy brandy you gifted me goes down too smooth.
"Yours," you say?! "Mine"?! What are you saying?!
All I want to do is come back over to yours and laugh about how you drew Izzy drowning next to the QAR (hilarious, by the way. He hated it. He'll be fine.) and then kiss the stupid freckles off your stupid face. FUCK.
What am I even saying. God I can't send you this. Your boy has been waiting on the deck for two hours waiting for me to respond and all I have are twenty crumpled up notes that make me sound like a lovesick puppy. Fuck you, Bonnet!
I'm going to break a window.
Stede,
Dinner sounds great, see you later.
Ed

I just spent hours explaining myself to a stranger on the internet, and I'm kind of too bummed about last night's episodes to think about them too much anymore right now, but I just wanted to gloat that I apparently have mind-reading powers because I'm, uh, actually writing that Overboard AU I threatened in someone's tags back when ep 3 first aired, and I have a thing about a bit of string on a tray too.
So have an unsolicited WIP snippet!
So the premise is that Ed was moonlighting as a cabinet maker to stave off the boredom of piracy and took a job on Stede's Dad's ship and a recently married Stede was sent to oversee the work. Ed and Stede become friendly, and Ed takes more time with the job than he ought to have because he's enjoying Stede's company so much. So Father Bonnet decides to stiff Ed on the bill, and sends Stede to deliver the news with strict orders not to Take Any Guff From The Rabble. Stede is miserable but he does it (because he can’t v. well stand up to his father, can he?). Stede ends up getting accidentally knocked overboard when he tries to apologize, and the waves knock his head against the hull and he gets amnesia. Ed saves him, but decides to get back at the rich fucks who treated him like dirt by telling Stede he's a pirate under Ed's command and taking him back to the QAR. Things happen and now Ed is having Complicated Feelings, and at the time of the below snippet, Stede's turn on the rota to bring Ed dinner in his cabin has come up, and Stede has stubbornly spent over a week saying nothing but "Forgive me, Captain" to Ed whenever they have occasion to talk:
The next day Stede has a clean dishrag tucked behind his belt like an apron when he brings the tray through the door. Did he somehow charm Cookie into letting him help in the galley? Cookie is intensely territorial about his stocks and pots, and has been known to use his knives for more than just chopping veg when he feels someone might be encroaching. Still, if anyone could talk his way past Cookie's defenses, it would be Stede, wouldn’t it?
Stede whips the cloth from behind his belt and floats it over the papers on Ed’s desk before laying the tray on top of it. He pulls the chair back from the desk, angling it toward Ed, and holding on to the back of it. Ed sits down gingerly, and Stede helps guide the chair so he’s tucked up close. There’s another clean cloth on the tray folded up so it resembles a butterfly. Atop it there’s a bit of thin rope that’s been knotted into a little flower. Ed picks it up and traces a finger around the intricate interwoven strand. He looks up at Stede, who is standing just to his side with his hands clasped behind his back. His eyes are soft as summer skies and his smile is warm and Ed feels his face warming in response.
He looks away quickly, throwing the knotwork flower back onto the tray. “Don’t waste the line,” he said around the tightness in his throat.
Stede’s smile falls. “Forgive me, Captain,” he murmurs dejectedly.
Fuck. The tightness in Ed’s throat gets worse. Reaches down into his stomach and squeezes. He doesn’t feel hungry anymore. He forces himself to tuck in.
“Dismissed,” he says, his mouth full. Some broth spills onto his beard, and he grabs the cloth on the tray to wipe it away. When he puts it back down, the butterfly’s wings are crumpled and asymmetrically stained.
Stede stares at it for a moment. His mouth moves, and Ed wonders if he’s finally going to say something. He doesn’t. Instead, he moves silently toward the door, his shoulders stooped. Ed’s stomach clenches harder.
When he’s alone, he picks up the flower again, tracing out the star at the center formed by the overlapping weave with his thumb. He thinks about the way Stede’s eyes sparkle.
He pushes away from the desk. Enough grub. Time for sleep. He looks at the flower in his hand again, then quickly tucks it away into the interior pocket of his jacket.

Title: The Last Voyage Fandom: Our Flag means Death Pairing: Sam Bellamy / Izzy Hands Rating: E Word Count: 116,820 Tags: Israel Hands-centric, Soft Israel Hands, Gratuitous Smut, Fluff, Light Angst, Romantic Comedy but sexier, Original Character(s),canon characters will make appearance, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Edward Teach's Kraken Era
Izzy Hands thought his life was ending when Blackbeard banished him. With no ship and no captain to serve, he was ready to just drink his misery away. Then he met with Sam Bellamy who offered him a chance to sail with The Last Voyage as his first mate.
Hello tumblr! May I offer you a novel length Bellhands I wrote since October? It’s a romcom with smut, so it’s basically a smutty pirate novel. I have tons of fun writing this one. I’m a bit sad that it’s done, but it’s done!
Thank you for those who have read it! Below is some details from the fic so there’ll be spoiler! This my commentary and fun facts about this fic so if you want to read it, do click read more
This fic ending changed so much compared to the ending I wrote in my initial plan. I didn’t plan to write Ed this dark and I def had a plan to make Stede more stubborn and idiotic. I honestly didn’t know why Edward became darker and darker the more he showed up in the stories. I’m still conflicted with Stede’s ending because he became this tragic man whose crime was falling in love with the wrong man at the wrong time. I’m using Flashlight Method when I write so that’s why I always end up in strange plot points.
My original plan is to have Sam rescued Izzy at the end of chapter 9 then he signalled Hornigold to catch Ed and Stede. Izzy was furious when he knew that and in chapter 10, Izzy and QAR would try to save Ed and Stede. This plan no longer work because Ed and also Sam became darker than my original plan :’)
I was planning to include a Treassure Hunter scene to mirror the canon tv show. Sam’s real life collegue Olivier Levasseur was infamous for levig this cryptic message about the whereabout of his treasure. I was planning for Izzy and Sam to find that treasure together. I got a headache planning a treasure hunting
I told @laughingandcryingwhilewriting that I wanted to write a sensual bathing scene. I didn’t get a chance to write one :’)
I implied that Paul was struggling with suicial thought when he was young. That’s why he wore a handkerchief on his left wrist. He kept touching his left wrist when he told Izzy about Maria.
That’s also why Sam didn’t tell Paul about his depression and suicidal thought because he knew Paul was struggling with that issue. Bellhands shippers, we should exploit Sam’s survivor’s guilt in our fic because it’s delicious.
I’d like to think Bones was so self indulgent because if he didn’t focus on himself, he would start thinking about others because he was very emphatetic and it burned him out. He was your burnout health care worker. He was actually stressed 24/7. Dirk and Izzy would help him with his mental health.
Beasley was a bit of blank card for me. I just wanted to make him super chaotic but super competent. He was also super random, which was fun to write. He’s also super into music, which I thought would be funny but it worked out.
Dirk was your typical grandpa who like to give your advice. I really didn’t know why Dutch became such an important language in this fic. I blamed Dirk.
Peddle is my baby. He’s from the same ethnicity as I am. The blessing he gave Izzy at Chapter 10 is actually a prayer for newly wed in my enthnicity language :D
I renamed Queen Anne’s Revenge to New Concord because QAR’s name was La Concorde. I thought I was being clever.
Sam making a deal with Badminton and Rogers is supposed to mimic what Izzy did in canon. Again, I thought I was being clever.
I made a mistake of googling Woodes Rogers and found Rogers in Black Sail. I am in love. That’s why Rogers appears in the beginning of chapter 10
I had an idea of making a sequel to this fic. Rogers didn’t excute Edward, but instead he hired Edward as a pirate hunter so he could sicc Edward at Sam. He knew Sam was a pirate and he knew if he made a move against Sam, he would be fucked. The Sequel would delve more in political situation in The Bahamas and war prep against Rogers. I won’t write the sequel though because I want to write my Billionaire and Coffee Shop Manager AU.
The premise of ths fic is Izzy finally healed through the power of love and friendship. Actually Izzy is the one who healed Sam. Of course, I thought I was being clever.
My initial plan for Stede’s ending was too horrible. If you play video game called Dishonored, Sam was going to do the same thing low chaos!Corvo did to Pendleton Twin.
My take on Sam is he’s usually very generous and kind but he became super cruel to those who wronged him. He tortured someone in chapter 3 and he had someone tied to a mast of a sinking ship. I thought he would want to physically hurt Stede and Ed especially with the burn wound on Izzy’s face. Maybe this is just me trying to justify my choice because I lowkey regret what I wrote.
Paul is the aroace friend who gives great love advices. He told Sam not to sleep with Maria and looked what happened next :<
I almost didn’t write the matelotage. I’m glad I wrote it.
Most of the songs in my LV Playlist are sung by Home Free because my face and voice claim for Sam is Tim Foust.
Please listen to Take Us Home by Alan Doyle. It’s the perfect wedding song for LV Bellhands
Thanks for reading my musings. I just need to let it go. If you have any questions or prompt for Last Voyage Bellhands, do send your question my way!

Urgent Action: TRUTH AND JUSTICE FOR DISAPPEARED ACTIVIST (Iraq: 104.23)
On September 19, 2020, a group of armed men abducted Sajjad al-Iraqi, a prominent protester and activist involved in the 2019 Tishreen [October] protest. More than three years after his abduction, his whereabouts remain unknown, and his family have been subjected to threats as they pursue truth and justice. On March 22, 2023, the Dhi Qar Criminal Court sentenced to death in absentia two individuals convicted for kidnapping Sajjad al-Iraqi, but no arrests have been made. The Iraqi authorities must reveal the fate and whereabouts of Sajjad al-Iraqi, ensure his family is protected from reprisals, and hold those responsible to account in fair trials without recourse to the death penalty.
TAKE ACTION:
Write a letter in your own words or using the sample below as a guide to one or both government officials listed. You can also email, fax, call or Tweet them.
Click here to let us know the actions you took on Urgent Action 104.23. It’s important to report because we share the total number with the officials we are trying to persuade and the people we are trying to help.

1, 15, 18, 25, 26 For fic asks! :D
1– favorite fic you wrote this year: I nearly doubled my fic count by putting my ‘ask box fics’ up there. Wasn’t expecting to do that necessarily but here we are. Some were definitely written over a year ago but out of those I did write this year, I really enjoyed Betrayal? It was written in a frenzy caused by so many curse reveal stories and Kikker’s art and a fic from another fandom that is sadly not updating regularly but the idea was really cool and I thought I did pretty good showing the feels behind it?
15– something you learned this year: unrelated to writing I learned how to make a cheese sauce that doesn’t go oily and gross on me.
And that brownies are really good if you bake them in a muffin tin. Bite size and then they get eaten instead of the whole pan sitting out and going to waste because it takes a little more planning to cut them out and take them to work. Thank you, Cap’ika.
18– current number of wips: I only have three actual, active fanfic wips. Puppet Lullaby, Town of Traitors and (really need to change the title) Twilight/abandonment. But I have a separate document where I can put down snippets or killer plot rabbits.
Barring those: I have kind of an original work I’d been dabbling in for a writer’s group I’m in. But it’s slow going because I have way more planned than written and brain doesn’t want to do the boring bits between them.
I also have stuff for Dungeons and Dragons games like character back stories or reference documents for the campaign where I’m part Dungeon Master.
25–a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read: so many good authors I’ve met through this year. I automatically read anything by @silvercaptain24 or @skyloftian-nutcase or @bokettochild . And @majorproblems77 is quickly becoming another favorite. But @tashacee caught me off guard this year with her Chain Linked series and particularly Untarnished. I couldn’t put it down. I pulled it up on the computer at work (something I really shouldn’t have been doing) and read between customers (no one tell my boss) because I needed to know how it ended and could not wait until break or the end of my shift.
Second would be ‘this year it taught me (lost and ambitious)’ by qar. It’s good Sky content and his chapter with Time I think I read 5 or 6 times and… yeah.
26–number of favorites/bookmarks you made this year: I’ve added 7.5 pages of bookmarks this year. Assuming they average out at 20 a page… roughly 150?There’s a couple deleted ones in there (😭) so maybe more like 148 that I’ve managed to keep. Do I use bookmarks too often? Probably. But I also use those as my marker to download them for my horde of fics.
