quarter three book favorites! (qts 1 & 2) once again, in the order in which i read them:
I'm gonna cheat and list three witch books I read in a row because they're all kinda linked in my head: The Change, about three women who gain magic powers after they go through menopause, The Witches of Moonshyne Manor about a coven of witches in their eighties who must protect their home, and The Rules of Magic, a prequel to Practical Magic- though I preferred the even farther reaching Magic Lessons.
The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin is a really hard book to describe haha but it is as great as everyone says it is.
Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson is a really fun, voicey mystery. A complicated family reunion at a ski lodge gets more complicated when people start dying.
Painted Devils by Margaret Owen is the sequel to one of my favorite fairy tale retellings, Little Thieves. I'll admit this one isn't nearly as good as the first, but still pretty great.
Sisters of the Lost Nation by Nick Medina is a mystery novel about an Indigenous teenager who dives into the mystery of the missing women on her reservation after her sister disappears. This is marketed as a horror and I think that's a bit of a mistake- the horror is in the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women, and this book is not a fast-paced slasher or thriller. It is great though.
Northranger by Rey Terciero is a graphic novel, and it's a queer, modern retelling of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey. So fun! Lots of discussion of horror media and how it both helps and hurts queer people.
Vampires of el Norte by Isabel Canas is a gothic historical romance set in Mexico, as vaqueros attempt to stop the invasion of the United States- and the vampires. Mostly a romance, but so delightful.
Better Living Through Birding by Christian Cooper was a fantastic memoir! Written by the Black man who was birding in Central Park when a white woman called the cops on him, this memoir is primarily about how much Cooper loves birds and what it was like for him to grow up gay, Black, and nerdy. Highly recommend the audiobook, which is read by Cooper and his passion comes through his voice so beautifully.
Carmilla by J Sheridan Le Fanu is a gothic classic that I'd never read, and I really enjoyed it! I love classic vampires.
The September House by Carissa Orlando is a delightful haunted house book about a woman who refuses to leave her haunted victorian manor. It has a turret, after all! She is annoyed when her adult daughter comes to investigate, because she knows that her daughter will just overreact to the bleeding walls. Fun and funny, with a lovely amount of depth about why families hide things from each other.

"The Mushroom Mine" sign by @shantismurf, with assistance from @tickles-ivory
As part of the celebration of the one year anniversary of the Bagginshield Book Club, we asked the lovely @chrononautintraining a few questions about this wonderful work.
June 2024 Author Q&A with Chrononautical
Q1. What name would you like us to use and what are your pronouns?
A1. Chrononautical or Chrono, She/Her
Q2. How many years have you been writing?
A2. Most of my life, but posting publicly for about 15 years.
Q3. What do you think of as your writing style - are you a plotter or pantster?
A3. Pantster, primarily, though I've learned my lessons and do like to know where a story is going to end when I start it these days so I try to plot.
Q4. What’s your favorite genre/trope to write?
A4. Speculative fiction: stories about magic or science fiction, primarily.
Q5. Is there a genre/trope you haven't written as much of yet that you're excited about for future writing?
A5. I'd like to do more comedy.
Q6. Was there an idea or scene that inspired A Passion for Mushrooms?
A6. Passion for Mushrooms is one hundred percent inspired by the quote I used for an epigraph: "Hobbits have a passion for mushrooms, surpassing even the greediest likings of Big People." - The Fellowship of the Ring, J.R.R. Tolkien.
When I decided to write it, the fandom already had more than a few stories about Bilbo planting gardens and deciding to stay in Erebor with a miraculously alive Thorin. I was completely here for all of that, of course, but I wanted a story where the garden wasn't special because of gold or rare plants bought with gold. I wanted there to be a treasure that Bilbo could appreciate with the Baggins half of his heart, as well as the Tookish bit. And I know next to nothing about mountains, but I do know mushrooms do okay in caves, so...
Q7. Did you do any special research before writing the work?
A7. If you're asking this because I go deep on How To Pluck A Chicken In A Medieval Kitchen during the cooking scenes, you're right and you should say it. I am a middling cook, but all of my ingredients come from grocery stores. I had to do a fair bit of research on the cooking aspects of the story that were furthest from my own experience. Fortunately, the professor already put tomatoes and potatoes in Middle-earth, so I didn't have to go Full Historical.
Q8. Did the story change from how you originally envisioned it? Were there scenes or plot elements you had to cut out?
A8. It absolutely did. Because I am, as previously said, a pantster. I wanted a bigger bang for the ending of the story than I was set up to get. I could have stopped with Bilbo and Thorin getting together and had some simple falling action, but that didn't perfectly tie the subplot of Dis and Tauriel back to the main pairing, which I knew I wanted. Having Doron try to poison Bilbo was actually a late in the game choice. If I'd planned that from the start, I would have threaded him into more of the middle sections of the novel.
As for cutting things out, the additional stories in the series started as deleted scenes/reader requests that I couldn't find use for. So most of what I cut didn't end up in the rubbish bin. Anything that wound up there really wasn't worth posting.
Q9. Do you have a favorite moment from the entire series?
A9. I still really like "A Spy In The Shire" a lot. I know it's so self-indulgent to say that about a story focusing on an OC, but if the point of the Battle of Five Armies is to reclaim Erebor for the dwarves, then I want that to mean something. I want the average dwarf to be in a bad place. I want the average dwarf to need Erebor the way Thorin needs Erebor, to be willing to do anything to get back to the Lonely Mountain. Because if that's the case, then all the sacrifice means something. When I talk about this one luckless dwarf on the world's silliest quest to figure out how to help the king hook up with a hobbit, I'm talking about hope for the future. I'm talking about all the people who long for and dream of the home that Thorin was willing to die to reclaim. I think about them going back there and living better lives. It brings me peace.

Some days ago I made a Milgram OC for fun and now I have thought too hard about it...they're ten and I've made them parallel too hard with both Amane and Muu lol. Fucked up Children stay winning.
Little bits of on the spot writing under the cut because I love them and I keep on being anxious about writing them...they don't got a name cause...I'm bad at names. They will be referred to as 011 for my sake-
(CW: Uh...bad things are implied to happen to Child, self-hatred, implications of self-harm)
T1 Character Voice:
011: Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Sorry-
T1 VD:
011: I didn't mean for them to die! 011: I didn't know that was going to happen...I didn't....
Interrogation T1
Q4: What are you the most afraid of? 011: Sorry, but I don't think I can choose. There's just a lot.
Q6: If you had the chance, would you bring your victim back? 011: ...is it alright if I don't tell you?
Q9: Who do you like the most here? 011: I think Amane is a good person.
Q10: Who do you like the least? 011: No one! It's not nice to say that about someone!
Q15: If you could be anything what would you be? 011: Something that can be anything!
Q18: Favorite animal? 011: It feels wrong to choose but...I really really really like wolves! They're like dogs but even better! I have a whole book about them back home!
Q20: Do you think your a good person? 011: Sorry but I don't think I can give you a good answer...maybe ask someone else? They probably know better than me...
T2 Character Voice:
011: You should say sorry, Es. You really hurt them...
011: *heavy breathing* hgh...why...
T2 VD:
011: I'm sorry but I don't understand! I really don't understand! If we all did something bad then why are they the ones who get punished? I don't get it...I really don't get it.
011: I don't want to do this but if you don't stop...
Interrogation T2
Q1: How's everyone doing? 011: Not as good as I'd like.
Q3: Could you forgive Es? 011: Of course! It's wrong to not.
Q7: If you could do anything what would you do? 011: I'd make everyone happy!
Q10: Do you think you're victim deserved it? 011: ...Maybe. I think they should of stopped sooner
Q15: Do you like yourself? 011: I don't want to make you sad.
Q17: Do you have any friends? 011: A few, I don't know if they feel the same way though.
Interrogations are so fun to write I love doing that. I should give characters a list of 20 questions more often and I think about what they would say. 011's fucked up-ness isn't super evident here but I will say they did threaten Es with something they could Very Much Hurt and that in my head their T1 Inno T2 guilty.
It's so fun coming up with running themes...ten year old commits manslaughter and doesn't feel bad about it what do you do?
I dont know if they'll pop up again but I do got them in head.

Do you guys have favorite movies/books/songs?
How about stuff you like to do after a long day at work or school (if you’re college students)?
How about… how you like your coffee or tea?
(I have. A lot of OCs so gonna answer with my FFI OCs :D)
Q1:
Drusus: Keme brought me to watch a movie called Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. I had a lot of fun, and that is my first and favorite movie. I can't wait to see Dragon Quest 12 hit in theaters in a few years!
Keme: Ditto, Drus.
Veles: I enjoy reading The Warrior of Light. I always felt a connection with the main character, and now that I and my friends are also Warriors of Light, it made me feel closer to him.
Taika: Keme introduced me to a show called Hello Kitty. It's so silly and adorable, and it's something I love to watch after all the... horrors, I saw in my line of work.
Q2:
Drusus: After working as a mercenary, I enjoy settling down and reading a book. And of course, cuddling with my husband, Keme-Wemie. ❤️
Keme, chuckling: Except for the reading, I love spending time with my husband! I also enjoy cooking a delicious meal after work.
Veles: My wife, Taika, and I would usually head down to my personal library, brew a drink, and talk for hours. There are a few times where she fell asleep and I had to bring her to bed. It's quite cute.
Taika: I love spending time with Veles. *giggles* After seeing so much as a healer in a mercenary group, being with Veles reminds me that I'm still alive. That my friends and beloved are still there.
Q3:
Drusus: I like my coffee plain. I usually drink water, though; I fight a lot as part of my job, and I need the necessary fluids to keep going.
Keme: Neither. Drusus won't let me drink either. Says something about how I was bouncing off the walls.
Veles: I enjoy my tea with goat's milk. Especially if it's green tea. It helps perk me up after a long night's rest.
Taika: I love both, but I lean more on coffee. I love my coffee with milk and sugar; I can't stand bitterness.

*taps on mic* Um. Hello. I'm the question fairy, and I've come to sprinkle some questions on your day.
You don't have to answer these questions, but to do so would require you to enter a binding agreement where you swore to bequeath your first born to me in exchange for my alchemical notes on how to weave straw to gold, in accordance with the Rumpelstiltskin Act of 1969. So. The ball is in your court.
Question 1:
In a world where money/logistics was not an issue and you could easily and ethically travel anywhere, where would you want to spend a month vacationing?
Question 2:
You wake up to a glowing portal and a woman stumbling out of it in a spacesuit that looks like it came from one of those sci-fi book covers where all the cloth is silver and spandexy. She tells you that you're The Chosen One™, the one woman in all the multiverse who can stop the encroaching darkness and restore order to the galaxy through your untapped powers and also a sizable and well armed army outfitted in, you guessed it, silver platform boots and stretchy metallic miniskirts. Due to plot reasons, there is no time for questions. You have to either enter the portal and embrace your shiny, shiny future or pretend she portal'd into the wrong bedroom. What do you do?
Question 3:
What is your favorite winter beverage to unwind with?
Thanks for the ask, Rifle the Question Fairy!
Q1: Since we're already dreaming, I'm just going to go ahead and eliminate my chronic pain/health problems that also prevent extensive travel.
In which case: I've always wanted to go to Aotearoa/New Zealand in the geology field trip/hiking/explore national parks style vacation of my childhood. Yes, because I watched the LotR films at a very formative age and fell in love with the landscape due to the beautiful cinematography. Yes also because my mom at one point genuinely considered taking my brother and me there (fell through due to those financial concerns we're ignoring), and so I already know a bunch about the geology and evolutionary history (which is really cool).
Q2: ...she definitely has the wrong bedroom. oh no. oh dear. how sad. (not today, destiny!)
(look, as an astronomer it feels weird turning down a (free) space adventure...but I also know what extensive time in space does to the human body. And I'm more about sitting in a cozy chair with my knitting these days than going on wild adventures and getting shot at by space lasers. Silver body suits and miniskirts just aren't my style. take your pick)
Q3: definitely tea. Usually some kind of herbal tea because too much caffeine is a no-no (but if I could drink black tea with milk and sugar all day long that's literally all I would drink). Currently drinking a lot of the bengal spice (herbal chi) and apple cinnamon tea from celestial seasons, especially since the weather finally turned here and it's full on winter rainy season for the next...well, until end of July going by this past summer.

Question 3:
What is your favorite winter beverage to unwind with?
Q1: This is such a hard question to answer because there's a lot of places in the world I want to see. At this moment, though, I kind of want a beach with warm sand, just enough wave action to make bodysurfing fun, enough wifi to load up my e-reader as often as needed, and (highly paid, ethically treated) handsome men bringing me snacks.
Q2: Bitch interrupted my sleep? My sweet, sweet sleep? She's got a portal, she could have picked any time, but she picked my three AM? The multiverse can get fucked.
Unfortunately, the truth is that my Librarian Instinct to Help would probably get me out of bed. But rest assured, I am going to bitch and moan the entire time I'm saving the multiverse. And I ain't wearing no silver spandex. The boots are a maybe if they have decent arch support.
Q3: It's a tie between hot chocolate and hot apple cider. There's tea, but I drink that no matter the weather so you can't really call it a winter beverage.

Ten Questions for Writers
I was tagged by @sunnyrosewritesstuff and since I'm not *quite* as far behind as usual, here we go...
Q1. how many works do you have on ao3?
36, the majority of which are 100+k words
Q2. what's your total ao3 word count?
2,641,488
Q3. what fandoms do you write for?
Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Richard Armitage, Marvel, The Boys
Q4. do you respond to comments? why or why not?
I try to respond to all of them, even if it's just an emoji because I don't know what else to say. But, I'm sure I've missed a comment or two along the way and if so, I'm sorry...
Q5. have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so
Q6. have you ever cowritten a fic before?
No. I don't think I'd play well with others when it comes to writing and I don't see that changing. I'm too much of a control freak.
Q7. what's your all-time favorite ship?
I don't have one, really. My fics almost all exclusively have OC heroines (or reader inserts) so I rarely write about a particular pairing more than once.
Q8. what are your writing strengths?
Dialogue. I love to write it and I can't even say how many comments I've gotten on how natural it sounds. I also tend to write mostly happy stories. They're almost all romance and one hard and fast rule in writing romance is either happily ever after (HEA) or happy for now (HFN) endings.
Q9. what are your writing weaknesses?
Pacing. I struggle with balancing it and it only comes about in the revision process.
Q10. first fandom you wrote for?
Marvel. I wrote a single Loki fic that turned into a four-book series, and spawned second generation fics as well. They're on Wattpad and still getting love nearly 10 years later...
And now, to the tags... and I'm not going to tag anyone since I always leave someone out, so anyone who wants to play, go for it! I'm curious to read others' answers...

Hello Friends!
I just wanted to jump on here and give everyone an update since it’s been so long since I’ve posted anything. Five months here on Tumblr, 16 months since there’s been an update to any of my fanfics at best and 50 months at worst. (And for some reason One White Blank Page seems to be going through a renaissance period of new readers despite the fact that it’s been 16 months since there was an update.)
It’s crazy looking back at it, but I started writing One White Blank Page 4 years ago when I was a full time college student! A lot has changed since then, in the world at large, and in my own little personal bubble of a world.
In 2022 I took a hiatus from posting or updating any fanfics at all. It was a year where everything felt so incredibly out of control for me, and that feeling spiraled into my creative life and took away most of my drive to hunker down and actually create. I’m looking at 2022 as having been a ‘fallow’ year where my metaphorical fields had to sit untouched for a while in order to prepare for a new season of creating.
This year I’ve been brimming with creative energy! And I’ve been focusing most of my efforts into a piece of original fiction that I’ve talked about here a bit before. It’s a New Adult novel that I’ve tentatively titled You Got The Wrong Hero, and I do aspire to one day query and publish that novel. Of course, in order to do that I have to actually have a finished novel to publish!
So, this year, I’m choosing to focus the brunt of my creative efforts on YGTWH. At this time, I’m planning on having the first draft of YGTWH finished towards the end of this year. Because I’m going to be focusing so much of my creative energy and free time into getting the first draft of YGTWH finalized, I’m not going to have much time to focus on my existing fanfics.
Now, this isn’t to say that I’m abandoning my existing fanfics! I love those fanfics that I’ve written and I have every intention of returning to them. But this is a notice that I’m going to be on a fanfic hiatus until I finish that first draft of YGTWH.
Apologies to everyone who loves my Megamind and ATLA fanfics I have up, but it’s been a lifelong dream of mine to write a book that gets published and I genuinely feel like the idea, plot, and characters of YGTWH are enough to get me there if I can only give them the time and effort they deserve and actually get them down on the page.
I threw a (very) tentative schedule for my upcoming writing life for the next few years down below for those who are interested in when they can start expecting me to return to my existing fanfics. And below that I have a short list of tropes and ‘comp titles’ for YGTWH for anyone who might be interested in being a beta reader once I get this first draft done!
TLDR; I’m not dead and I haven’t abandoned any of my fanfics! I’ve been on hiatus and will be for a while longer while I finish some stuff up. See the (very) tentative timeline below for an estimate of when I will return to working on your favorite fanfic!
SCHEDULE
Q2 & Q3 2023 - 1st Draft YGTWH
Q4 2023 - 1st Draft YGTWH; OWBP as time permits, may add an additional chapter
Q1 2024 - One White Blank Page, add at least 3 chapters
Q2 & Q3 2024 - 2nd Draft YGTWH
Q4 2024 - One White Blank Page, add at least 3 chapters
Q1 & Q2 2025 - 3rd Draft YGTWH
Q3 2025 - One White Blank Page, add at least 3 chapters
Q4 2025 - FINAL Draft YGTWH
Q1 2026 - FINAL Draft YGTWH
Q2 2026 Onward - Focus on fanfics in the following order of priority; One White Blank Page, You Bare Your Fangs, Cupid’s Got A Gun, Gangster’s Paradise, Time and Time Again. (Not to say the fics at the end won’t be updated at all until the prior ones are done, but they’ll be updated less frequently than the others.)
If you came this far and you want some You Got The Wrong Hero deets… here ya go:
Imagine if you dumped Stranger Things, Venom, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Twilight (but only the vibes) into a big stockpot, simmered for 12 hours, attempted to perform an exorcism on the remains and failed… and you would get something similar to You Got The Wrong Hero.
An action packed dystopian with sci-fi/supernatural elements and lots of romance. You have these tropes: Long lost friends to lovers, Love across battlefields, Slow burn romance, Touch her and I’ll kill you, a Morally grey protagonist, the ‘Villain’ gets the girl (and the girl is the ‘hero’), Mutual pining but they’re idiots, Hurt & comfort, Angst & fluff, EVERYBODY has daddy issues, When he’s with her he’s a golden retriever but when she’s not there he’s a rabid dog, Extremist terrorist groups and the government agencies dedicated to catching them.
Again, if you want to be a beta reader once the first draft is done (or want to hear more) just hmu!
Thanks for reading everyone! ❤️

Dental Clinic in Gandhinagar Offering Invisalign Treatments - Orthosquare Multispecialty Dental Chain
Tumblr media
Achieving a perfectly aligned smile has never been easier, thanks to Invisalign, a revolutionary alternative to traditional braces. If you’re searching for a reliable dental clinic in Gandhinagar offering Invisalign treatments, Orthosquare Multispecialty Dental Chain is here to provide expert care with advanced technology.
What Is Invisalign?
Tumblr media
Invisalign is a new orthodontic technology and instead of wearing traditional braces, it utilizes semitransparent prescription retainers to gradually move teeth. These retainers are nearly invisible, and they can be removed and placed back and are designed for maximum comfort.
How Invisalign Works:
1. Consultation:
Our dental experts assess your smile and develop a personalized treatment.
2. Custom Aligners:
Advanced technology designs aligners customized for the structure of your teeth.
3. Gradual Movement:
Each aligner shifts your teeth slightly until the desired alignment is achieved.
Why Choose Invisalign Over Traditional Braces?
1. Discreet Appearance:
Invisalign aligners are transparent and,  therefore, not so visible  when put on.
2. Comfort:
Made from smooth plastic material; irritation is much less than that of metal braces.
3. Convenience:
Tumblr media
They are easily removable so you can eat, brush, and floss as you please.
4. Customized Fit:
Each aligner is individually tailored for precise results based on your specific needs.
