How to Choose the Best Hostel in Goa for Your Perfect Vacation
Tumblr media
Goa, a paradise for beach lovers and adventure seekers, offers an array of experiences for every type of traveler. Whether you're a solo traveler, a backpacker, or part of a group, finding the right place to stay is key to making your Goa trip memorable. Among the many accommodation options, hostels in Goa are gaining popularity due to their affordability, social atmosphere, and prime locations. But how do you choose the best hostel in Goa for your perfect vacation? In this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know to make an informed decision.
1. Location, Location, Location!
The location of a hostel plays a significant role in your overall experience in Goa. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful retreat or want to be close to the vibrant nightlife, choose a hostel in Goa that’s situated in an area that suits your preferences.
Beaches and Relaxation: If you're traveling to soak up the sun, look for hostels close to popular beaches like Anjuna, Palolem, or Vagator. These areas offer stunning views, easy access to the beach, and a laid-back vibe perfect for relaxation.
Nightlife and Party Vibes: For those looking to explore Goa’s nightlife, choose hostels near Candolim or Baga. These areas are known for their bustling bars, clubs, and beach parties, giving you access to the best of Goa’s party scene.
Cultural and Adventure Seekers: For those who want to experience the culture and nature of Goa, look for hostels in Old Goa or the quieter areas of North Goa. These places are rich in heritage, with temples, markets, and more to explore.
2. Facilities and Amenities
When choosing the best hostel in Goa, it’s essential to consider what amenities and facilities are important to you. The best hostels in Goa provide a comfortable and convenient experience with top-notch services. Here’s what to look for:
Free Wi-Fi: Staying connected is crucial, whether for work or keeping in touch with family and friends. Look for hostels that offer free, reliable Wi-Fi to stay connected during your vacation.
Comfortable Dorms and Private Rooms: While many hostels in Goa are known for their lively dorms where you can meet fellow travelers, if you prefer more privacy, check if the hostel offers private rooms with ensuite bathrooms.
Lockers and Security: Security is important when traveling, especially with valuable items like phones, cameras, and passports. Ensure the hostel provides secure lockers to store your belongings.
Common Areas and Social Spaces: One of the main advantages of staying in hostels is the social vibe. Look for hostels with large common areas, kitchens, or lounges where you can meet fellow travelers, share stories, and plan your Goa adventures.
Organized Tours and Activities: Some hostels in Goa also offer organized tours, group activities, and social events, making it easier for you to explore Goa and connect with other travelers.
3. Budget-Friendly Options
Goa is known for its affordable travel options, and staying in a hostel is a great way to save money. However, the price of hostels can vary greatly depending on the location, facilities, and time of the year. It’s important to find a hostel that fits your budget while still providing quality services.
Low Season vs High Season Pricing: Goa sees a surge in tourists during peak seasons (November to February). Prices for hostels in Goa can spike during this time, so booking in advance can help you secure a better deal.
Special Deals and Discounts: Many hostels offer discounts for longer stays, group bookings, or during off-peak periods. Don’t forget to look for special deals when booking your accommodation.
4. Reviews and Ratings
To ensure you’re choosing the best hostel in Goa, always check online reviews and ratings. Platforms like Hostelworld, TripAdvisor, and Google Reviews provide valuable insights from previous guests. Look for reviews that mention:
Cleanliness of rooms and common areas.
The friendliness of the staff and their willingness to help.
The overall vibe of the hostel, whether it’s more relaxed or party-oriented.
Proximity to the beach, nightlife, and other attractions.
Remember that one or two negative reviews shouldn’t discourage you, but consistently bad feedback is a red flag.
5. The Social Vibe
The social atmosphere of the hostel is a big selling point. Many travelers choose hostels not just for the cheap rates, but for the chance to meet other like-minded people. If you’re traveling solo, a friendly and vibrant social environment can be one of the most enjoyable aspects of your trip.
Hostels with Events: Some hostels organize social nights, BBQs, or pub crawls to help guests meet others. If you’re looking to make new friends, these hostels will offer the best social experience.
Solo Traveler-Friendly: If you’re traveling alone and prefer a more relaxed environment, look for hostels that are known for their welcoming atmosphere for solo travelers.
6. Sustainability and Eco-Friendliness
In recent years, many hostels in Goa have adopted sustainable practices. If you’re someone who values eco-friendly travel, check if the hostel has initiatives like recycling, reducing plastic waste, or offering organic food options.
Conclusion: Why Choose The Hostel Co. for Your Perfect Vacation?
If you’re looking for an excellent option among hostels in Goa, The Hostel Co. offers a perfect blend of comfort, affordability, and social atmosphere. With prime locations, modern facilities, and a welcoming vibe, The Hostel Co. provides everything you need for a memorable Goa experience. Whether you're a solo traveler, a backpacker, or part of a group, The Hostel Co. offers the best hostel experience for your perfect vacation in Goa. Recap of my recent Goa trip! I have a question for you. What do you prefer? Hotels or Hostels?
I think Hostels are the right thing for me. A luxurious hotel is great for relaxing and their services. It was a good stay. But I think I could do a maximum of 3 days alone before I get bored. During my stay in hostels i had so much fun meeting new people and each day felt like an adventure. It felt like doors for possibilities were open.
That's my thoughts. What about you?

Tubby Graffiti
What is tubby graffiti?
If you found this page, you may have searched for 'tubby graffiti 'tubby1 graffiti', and wondered about my tag or sticker. I created this page to show up on Google so there is less misinformation about me, and write more about the purpose of my tag.
I am a graffiti writer/urban explorer from Sydney, Australia. I primarily enjoy painting in 'hidden spots', like drainage tunnels and under bridges.
I got arrested several times within the span of a year or 2 for various charges of vandalism and trespassing. The last time I got arrested in Australia for vandalism, I was sentenced to do community service and I really didn't feel like doing much more graffiti in Sydney, because I kept getting caught.
But as it turns out, I am extremely thankful for the day I was arrested, because that day changed the course of my life forever.
My friend invited me to travel overseas with him, and I ended up travelling some of Asia and Europe with him. I didn't paint graffiti on these first trips or go anywhere off the beaten path, I just put up stickers and just enjoyed living happy and free, and doing as regular people do in their early twenties.
Later on another friend invited me to travel to India. This was my first time travelling to a 'non-touristy' place, and the catalyst for what made me want to drop everything and see the world as so much happened in just a couple weeks, and it ended up with us forgoing our flight to the party destination of Goa and instead going hiking in the Himalayas for 5 days and living among gypsies.
While it was great fun, I also saw huge amounts of poverty and visited the slums. This is really the first time I really saw things like that first hand.
When I returned to Australia, I realized that normal life would never quite feel the same. After getting restless, I ended up selling my car, getting rid of most of my belongings, packing what I needed into a duffel bag and setting off to see the world and write graffiti.
It started off as just fun and games. Backpacking through Asia and Europe, staying in hostels, meeting other travellers, while also writing graffiti and just enjoying life.
As I travelled more, I started seeing more and more in the way of poverty, crime, economic disparity, etc...
When you are painting graffiti in a country which doesn't really have a graffiti scene, it often strikes up conversations or even altercations.
I would always talk to people and they would always ask me 'what is the purpose of the graffiti.' I didn't really have an answer, I just said it was a fat, happy character.
I would eventually start painting countries which are advised as 'do not travel' places, and painting graffiti in these countries would start getting increasingly dangerous, and I would see the effects of war, meet refugees, meet many people just trying to survive in atrocious living conditions.
It would begin to feel distasteful, me just being a tourist, going to these places of extreme poverty with terrible living conditions to write graffiti for a couple days and move on to the next place.
Sitting at 94 countries at last count, I still have not completed even half when it comes to the goal of 'visiting every country in the world'.
About half of the countries left are in the African continent.
I have analysed the list and possibility of visiting every country in the world, and a large portion of what I have left to visit are countries which are considered extremely dangerous/in war/very bad political situations.
At the moment I am not travelling due to real life catching up with me and having a child.
I do not intend to visit all 197 anywhere in the near future, but I do intend to spend a few more months when I can travel again and eventually write a book about the complex social-economic and geopolitical issues which face our world.
My graffiti doesn't really benefit anyone, and is relatively pointless. All my stickers and tags will fade or get painted over, and in a while it will be as if I was never there.
If there is one thing I wish to leave behind, I wish to write and spread awareness about the world issues I have seen first hand. I want to share my views and write about the good and bad I have seen. Unless you see the bad, you can't really appreciate the good.
I'm from Sydney, Australia, a place which consistently ranks as one of the best places to live in the world. I have a passport which allows me to travel to most countries without difficult visas/invitation letters. I come from a place of privilege which allows me to travel with ease.
No one chooses where they were born and I don't want to waste the advantage I was born with, so I will endeavour to write a book and tell the stories of what I've experienced and the things I've seen.

03.11.23 Tag 1; 03:20 in Indien ; 22:50 in Deutschland
Auch beim baggage drop off klappt alles super.

Goa in May & June: Weather, Events & Budget Travel Tips
Tumblr media
Goa is one of India’s most popular tourist destinations, known for its pristine beaches, lively nightlife, and rich cultural heritage. While most travelers prefer visiting Goa during the peak season from November to February, there’s something special about experiencing Goa in May and June. This period offers a unique charm, fewer crowds, and budget-friendly options, making it an excellent time for those looking to explore Goa at a lower cost.
Weather in Goa During May and June
May: The Pre-Monsoon Heat
May is one of the hottest months in Goa, with temperatures ranging between 28°C to 35°C. The humidity levels are high, but the sea breeze makes the coastal areas more comfortable. Afternoons can be scorching, so plan outdoor activities for the early morning or late evening.
Pros of Visiting Goa in May:
Beach activities are still in full swing before the monsoon begins.
Fewer crowds mean better deals on accommodation and food.
Most restaurants, clubs, and markets are open.
Cons of Visiting Goa in May:
High temperatures can be exhausting.
Some beach shacks may start shutting down toward the end of the month.
June: The Beginning of the Monsoon
June marks the onset of the monsoon in Goa, bringing heavy rainfall and cooler temperatures (25°C to 30°C). The lush greenery starts returning, and waterfalls in the region become more active, making it a fantastic time for nature lovers.
Pros of Visiting Goa in June:
The refreshing monsoon transforms the landscape into a green paradise.
Accommodation and travel expenses are at their lowest.
Ideal for those who enjoy the offbeat, peaceful side of Goa.
Cons of Visiting Goa in June:
Swimming in the sea is risky due to strong currents.
Many beach shacks and water sports facilities close down.
Frequent rainfall may disrupt outdoor plans.
Best Events & Festivals in Goa During May & June
1. Goa Food and Cultural Festival (May)
This festival showcases Goa’s vibrant culinary scene with food stalls, live music, and cultural performances. It’s a great opportunity to taste authentic Goan delicacies.
2. Sao Joao Festival (June 24th)
One of Goa’s most famous monsoon festivals, Sao Joao is a Catholic feast celebrating St. John the Baptist. Locals jump into wells, dance, and enjoy traditional music while feasting on Goan delicacies.
3. Shigmo (Late April - Early May)
A spring festival similar to Holi, Shigmo features colorful processions, folk dances, and grand celebrations in various parts of Goa.
4. Off-Season Nightlife and Club Offers
Although peak tourist season is over, popular clubs like Tito’s, Mambo’s, and Silent Noise Club still host events with discounted entry fees.
Best Things to Do in Goa During May & June
1. Explore Offbeat Beaches
Since the popular beaches like Baga and Calangute are quieter in May and June, it’s the perfect time to explore less crowded beaches such as Butterfly Beach, Galgibaga Beach, and Cola Beach.
2. Visit Dudhsagar Waterfalls
By June, Dudhsagar Waterfalls begin to come alive with monsoon rains, offering a spectacular sight. Trekking to the falls is an exciting adventure during this season.
3. Enjoy the Local Markets
May and June are great times to shop at Mapusa Market, Anjuna Flea Market, and Panjim Market, where you can bargain for souvenirs, spices, and handicrafts.
4. Explore Goa’s Spice Plantations
Take a guided tour of Sahakari Spice Farm or Tropical Spice Plantation to learn about Goa’s rich spice heritage while enjoying monsoon showers in the lush surroundings.
5. Experience Goan Monsoon Cuisine
Enjoy seasonal delicacies such as Prawn Balchao, Goan Fish Curry, and Bebinca while sipping on the famous Feni or Urrak, a seasonal cashew-based liquor.
Budget Travel Tips for Goa in May & June
Tumblr media
1. Affordable Accommodation Options
Opt for budget hotels, homestays, or hostels, as luxury resorts offer off-season discounts.
Consider booking Airbnb stays for a more local experience.
South Goa offers cheaper accommodations compared to North Goa.
2. Use Public Transport & Rentals
Rent a scooter or bike at discounted off-season rates for easy and affordable travel.
Use local buses instead of taxis to save money.
If using taxis, opt for prepaid or app-based services like GoaMiles.
3. Eat at Local Cafes & Shacks
Ditch expensive restaurants and opt for local Goan eateries like Vinayak Family Restaurant, Ritz Classic, and Mum’s Kitchen.
Go for thali meals for a budget-friendly yet delicious experience.
4. Book Flights & Trains in Advance
Since off-season tickets are cheaper, booking flights and trains early can save even more money.
Consider sleeper class trains for an economical journey to Goa.
5. Enjoy Free Activities
Walk along the sunset beaches instead of paid tours.
Visit free attractions like Old Goa Churches, Fort Aguada, and Chapora Fort.
Attend local monsoon festivals and live music performances.
Pros & Cons of Visiting Goa in May & June
Pros:
Low Prices: Everything from accommodation to food is cheaper.
Less Crowded: Enjoy a more peaceful experience.
Monsoon Beauty: Lush greenery and waterfalls at their best.
Unique Cultural Experiences: Experience local festivals in an authentic way.
Cons:
Limited Water Sports: Many activities shut down due to rough seas.
Unpredictable Weather: Sudden rains may disrupt travel plans.
Some Beach Shacks Close: Fewer options for dining by the beach.
Conclusion
Visiting Goa in May and June may not be everyone’s first choice, but it offers a unique, budget-friendly, and less crowded experience. Whether you love the beach vibes of May or the lush monsoon magic of June, Goa remains a fantastic destination all year round.
