Ooh what if sanji grew up with asl brothers somehow? like the orbit couldnt keep a kid around and dropped him off on goa and he ended up cooking for a bunch of feral boys who teach him that brothers dont always have to hurt
I have a lot of thoughts about ASL+Sanji. A lot. (There's so much under the cut, so much)
Sanji who's dropped off in Foosha and is just, jumpy and frightened and runs at every breath towards him. I feel like Makino would tell Luffy about him and when Luffy's first few approaches don't work he tells Ace and Sabo. Sanji who is staring at these three feral gremlins who keep showing up at his hiding spot and trying to talk to him and Luffy who keeps asking about his eyebrows and Ace and Sabo hitting Luffy making Sanji flinch and cower from them.
Sabo would probably be the first one to Sanji warms up to. Both coming from nobile families that hate them. Sabo could recognize the way Sanji holds himself from a mile away so they bond and then Luffy would be next probably. Especially if Sanji has started cooking for them.
Ace would probably be last because he has the hardest to form trust with and Sanji is still skittish and jumpy and he flinches all the time. Ace can't even raise his hand for a high five without Sanji flinching. One night when it's just them Ace asks Sanji if he's a monster and Sanji says no, he knows monsters, was almost killed by monsters and Ace is blinking at Sanji who says that all with so quietly and with so much hurt. Sanji is small and quiet and the best behaved out of the four of them but over time he becomes just as feral.
When Sabo "dies" the three of them are heartbroken and Ace and Luffy go to the extremes of over protectiveness for a while. Ace sets off on his little boat to become a pirate and Sanji is working under Makino who makes him set sail with Luffy because of his dream of the All Blue(effectively making Sanji the first crewmate which Luffy is so glad is his cook and his brother). I feel from there things progress normally, they pick Zoro and Nami, fight Buggy, pick up Usopp and destroy the Baratie.
I don't think anyone would notice that Sanji and Luffy are brothers and then in Alabasta when Ace is visiting Ace is talking with everyone Ace just drops the bomb that the three of them are brothers. Zoro is like trying to wring Luffy's neck and Nami and Usopp are yelling at the top of their lungs as Vivi, Karoo, Chopper and Ace watch. Then Luffy drops the bomb that Sanji broke his back on the last island and Ace is yelling at Sanji for not taking care of himself better and Sanji is yelling back about the avalanche and everything and Ace is just watching with such a pained expression on his face. He thanks the crew for taking care of his little brothers and apologizes for the handful that they are.
Things progress normally until Marineford where Sanji and Luffy manage to show up to save Ace. Like this is all going, they can't find their crew, their brother is going to be executed for being born. Sanji takes this way too personally because of what his birth father did and well if he couldn't give himself up at Thriller Bark for Luffy he will give himself up for Ace and Luffy fuck this admiral. Sanji throws his leg into the lava punch and it still hits Ace but it doesn't kill him.
Law suddenly has three brothers, all of which have been hit with fucking lava, the blond is losing a leg, the one that was supposed to be executed is losing his back tattoo and the one who punched a celestial dragon like a week ago has liquefied organs and the Red Force is following them after Marineford has been sunk???? Is that the fucking White Beard fleet??? Law is the theater for 56 hours before being able to hand these fucking idiots off and hopes he never sees them again.
Shanks and Marco are looking at their respective brat/brother/son/person and the third one with tilted heads and Ace and Luffy keep trying to climb into Sanji's head which makes Marco snap at them for, Luffy especially because of you know, liquefied organs. Ace and Luffy keep crying because Sanji lost a fucking leg for them and Shanks asks Marco if he knew there was another one and Marco says he thought the blond one was supposed to be dead.
Skipping to Dressrosa Ace and Luffy meet Sabo who is there to help on behalf of the revolutionary army and Sabo is pointing at both of them and they're both pointing at him. Sabo asks where Sanji is and if he's alive and Luffy is like "yeah, he just fired on Big Mom's ship, traffy sent him to Zou because Mingo hurt him but he's fine!" And Ace is like "Sanji's fine, he has a metal leg now but-" and that makes Sabo hit both of them with his pipe and yell at them for not telling him anything even though he didn't have his memories and Ace and Luffy yell back at him for being dead.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

Thoughts on Chapter 1101 (Spoilers)
This chapter shows Kuma's time as a warlord, obeying the gov while also doing his best to help people. He visits Luffy, assists the Revolutionaries and writes letters to Bonney which never arrive, causing Bonney to run away in search of her father. Which leads to the most interesting/confusing moment of this flashback so far.
This chapter's biggest reveal was another aspect of Bonney's fruit: the ability to distort the future to borrow other devil fruit powers. I think. She becomes an alternate universe version of the future which feels very... metaphorical? Symbolic? Something like: if you can envision freedom you can attain it. Bonney asked if Nika could free her, and now she uses Nika's powers to free herself. Good shit.
The 'Kuma visiting Goa' part of the chapter is surprisingly short, so why did Oda include it? To confirm Dragon was intentionally staying away, to create more of a connection between Kuma and Bonney, Dragon and Luffy? Kuma may already know Luffy is Nika from the stretchiness legend and is visiting to check in on the god-in-training.
The most heartbreaking moment is learning that Kuma's letters never reached Bonney. It's brutal that she can't have a physical reminder of him. But as one commentator said, seeing her father's memories means she may have finally seen those letters. Even if the official translation doesn't use "a lifetime's worth of love," the concept eviscerates me. Break next week.

The Ocean Where The Stars Follow You 💫
[One Piece - ASL Never Met AU]
The one Roger trusted his son with wasn't Garp. That one small difference created a whole lot of changes.
In which, Ace was raised by Rayleigh, Sabo still tried so hard to leave the Goa Kingdom, and Luffy grew up without brothers.
Ace - Intro 1 | Early Childhood
Instead of Garp, Roger trusted his son with Rayleigh so Ace was raised by Rayleigh and Shakky on Saobody.
Ace is a much happier boy because he knows his parents love him from the start. He doesn't have parental issues aside from a little guilt for Rouge's death. Rayleigh spends a lot of time telling him stories about Roger and Rouge.
However, Ace also didn't grow up without issues. Rayleigh continued mourning Roger and Rouge for a long time and Ace sometimes reminds him about them a lot. Ace developed quite a complex about it, sometimes feeling guilty for making Rayleigh sad.
Rayleigh did try his best but Saobody is not a nice place for a child to grow up. Ace got in a lot of trouble. He also saw a lot of ugly things under the cheerful surface of it. By the time he reaches his teenage years, Ace already has a rather big reputation on Saobody.
Sabo - Intro 1 | Early Childhood
Sabo's early years follow the same as canon. The 5-year-old noble child ran away to live in the Grey Terminal. However, there is no Ace for him to befriend with.
Sabo spent his following years living alone in Grey Terminal, stealing and robbing people. At one point, his father found out and got him back. The fire in Grey Terminal still happened. Sabo met Dragon briefly while trying to warn him about it.
In the end, Sabo still chose to leave Dawn Island and was shot down by the Tenryuubito that visited the Goa Kingdom. He was saved by Dragon and the Revolutionary Army.
And here is the twist. Sabo doesn't have amnesia. He remembers perfectly his childhood and there is nothing on Dawn Island that makes him want to come back. Because there were no brothers and shared happiness. As far as Sabo is concerned, the only thing waiting for him back in the Goa Kingdom is suffering. So he went with the Revolutionary Army and never looked back.
Luffy - Intro 1 | Early Childhood
After Shanks and his crew left, Garp didn't bring Luffy to Dadan. Luffy spent the rest of his childhood in Foosha Village.
Luffy, due to spending more years with Makino in her bar, learned a bit of her skills. He still is a disaster in the kitchen but Luffy is actually good at bartending.
At one point, in his boredom, Luffy decided to explore the jungle. He eventually met Dadan and her bandits as well as discovered the Grey Terminal. Luffy in a stroke of luck, found Sabo's old stash of pirate funds. He used it to pay for a part of his tab at Makino bar.
Since finding out about the big animals on the mountain, Luffy started to go hunting more often and spent more time on the mountain. He usually crashed Dadan's place despite her protest. She stopped complaining once Luffy left her some of his hunts and some treasures he robbed the thugs from the Grey Terminal.
Luffy's main place was still Garp's small house in Foosha Village. It's where he kept all his stuff.

Self-Ship Content w/ Ace~
Note: This is extremely self-indulgent. The title says it all. As per requested as well by @ofoceansandtombsanew🫶
CW: Does first person POV self-ship count? lol
Word Count: 500+
Childhood Enemies(?)
It was hate at first sight.
Both parents are marines who usually went on long missions. They were close to Garp and wanted me to become a Marine. So, they thought it'd be a great idea to leave me in his care whenever they were out on missions.
Garp brought me along to Goa one time to visit Luffy and Ace and introduced me to them. I was hiding behind Garp and clung to him.
Ace looked me dead in the eyes and went, "I don't like him. He looks like a pampered brat." With that scrunched look on his face.
We were constantly on each other's throats since then. There was barely ever a moment of peace whenever we interacted. But I did get along with Luffy and Sabo. Just not Ace.
Didn't rlly help that I wanted to be a marine while he wanted to be a pirate (well, three of them wanted to be pirates) but Sabo would somewhat mediate before Ace and I threw hands at each other (again).
On the day Garp was finally taking me back to Marine HQ, we got into an argument. He said it was good riddance to have me gone, and I started crying.
Even Luffy chided Ace for that. Eventually, Ace gave in and admitted he'd miss our interactions— just a bit. Patting my head and even saying we'd meet again if I promised to stop crying.
Ofc, I came back a month later. After threatening Garp, I was gonna drive a fleet into a whirlpool using my devil fruit if he didn't let me see Ace and the others again (I was 10 and almost did).
Pre-Relationship
Went from being a well-known navigator of the Marines to being one of most wanted criminal for punching a Celestial Dragon square in the face real quick into my career as a Marine.
MIA for almost half a year. Ace was the only one who managed to find me. Hauled me over his shoulder and dragged me to his ship where I started free-loading.
The only reason he found out I had a...feminine body was when he accidentally walked in on me while I was changing (he thought I was a guy ever since we met).
There was a lengthy discussion after that. And he was visibly confused for at least a week. Always out of it for some reason. But he had the spirit, did his best to understand and respecy my identity.
Both of us were horrible at communicating and being honest with our feelings.
I had a crush on him when we were kids but stopped since he only looked at me platonically. And he had feelings for me when we were in our early teens but never confessed bc he was scared I'd reject him.
Now, there was that tension neither of us wanted to address. Everyone in the Ace of Spades could tell. But both of us were still stuck on the "What if they reject me and think I'm weird or a creep?" fear.
#look it's self shipping hours#the homies#one piece#portgas d ace#with: ace#do i feel flustered writing and posting this? yes#was it extremely fun that i forgot my period cramps? HELL YEAH

since your on a roll maybe a prompt with little sanji and little luffy. Mostly it be nice to see how fast the little monkey wants the blonde boy who can cook to be his friend. 5 year old luffy would see kid sanji and go, " want to be friends?"

The Orbit docks at Dawn Island.
It’s a little farther out of the way than they usually sail, but there were very well-paying guests on board at what would have been the end of the cruise who wanted to be taken all the way to their home of Goa Kingdom.
Captain Chas strikes up a conversation with the harbormaster, one seasoned sailor to another, and the harbormaster divulges that it might do him well to stay in port. The people of High Town love an excuse to spend their money on a good day, and with an upcoming visit from a Celestial Dragon, they’re even more inclined than usual to flaunt their wealth. Once word gets around that there is a luxury cruise ship at the wharf that offers fine dining and a cocktail lounge, they’ll show up in droves.
“Make yourself scarce for dinner service,” the head chef warned Sanji very clearly. “These people will take offense as easy as breathing, and I don’t want to lose my best kitchen boy because some middle-aged noblewoman didn’t like the way his uniform was pressed.”
So once all the food was prepped and ready for service, and the staff was taking their last break of the evening before the rush, Sanji was shooed away by the grown-ups and told to entertain himself for the night. He goes easily enough, stopping by the bunkroom to change out of his white service uniform and into secondhand trousers and canvas shirt and boots.
He doesn’t always get the chance to explore when The Orbit is at port, and he was warned to stay clear of High Town—but Sanji isn’t even looking toward the kingdom walls. He heads in the opposite direction, running down the pier toward the beautiful beach that stretches out of sight around the natural bend of the island.
The waters are so clear. There are tropical flowers blooming along the coastline that add something fragrant to the sea-salt in the air. A gull cries overhead and Sanji imagines, just for a moment, what it would be like to find All Blue.
Then he collides with someone hard enough that he goes sprawling backwards.
“Ow!” someone whines from right in front of Sanji. He lifts his head in time to look right into big brown eyes, all watery with hurt, as the little boy he ran into says petulantly, “You made me drop my fish!”
Bewildered, Sanji looks down. Sure enough, there are a handful of huge, colorful fish flopping weakly in the sand between them. They look too big to have fit in the kid’s scrawny arms in the first place.
“Sorry,” he says, for lack of a better thing to say. “The sand will come off easy when you scale them.”
The boy blinks. He rubs the rest of his crocodile tears away, smearing grubby fingers across a pencil-mark scar that curves beneath one of his eyes like a smile.
“Scale them?” he asks curiously. “They already have those.”
“No, you know, de-scale,” Sanji explains. “When you get the skin and scales off to cook them?”
He feels a little too big for his skin under the other child’s undivided inattention. Attention is usually a bad thing. Sanji has always been safer when no one knew he was there. He’s just barely gotten used to his kitchen supervisor hovering at his shoulder, reaching in to guide his hands away from a mistake.
This boy is smaller than Sanji, though. Most of the people who want to hurt him are bigger. That makes it easier to talk to him.
“We just roast them on the fire and spit out all the yucky stuff!” the boy declares.
Sanji thinks that’s the worst thing he’s ever heard. “What about the bones?” he says, not sure he’s ready for the answer.
“They’re crunchy but not big enough to choke on or anything.”
Standing up abruptly, Sanji picks up two of the fish. They’re heavy, someone’s very lucky catch. The younger boy scrambles up, too, face contorted into a scowl and mouth opening around what is probably a very loud protest, but Sanji beats him to it.
“Let me cook these for you properly,” he says firmly. “I’ll show you what fish is supposed to taste like.”
He watches wonder take over the boy’s face. He’s expressive, bouncing from one feeling to the next like he wouldn’t know the first thing about sitting still—not like the way Sanji’s brothers’ faces would always clutch onto anger or derision or mean-spirited glee for days, the way his father’s face was always chiseled into a displeased frown.
This kid has cycled through half a dozen emotions in half as many minutes, and now he’s already moving onto something new. He smiles brightly, sand in his hair and tear tracks on his face and a gap in his smile from a missing tooth.
“You’re a cook?”
Sanji nods, because that’s what he’s always wanted to be in his heart—but something in him that still shies away from lying, even after weeks of pretending to be a displaced orphan to the kind people who took him in on The Orbit, makes him add, “Almost. I’m still learning. My name is Sanji.”
“Sanji! I’m Luffy!”
Luffy’s hands come up and catch on Sanji’s sleeve, sticky and stubborn, already tugging him in the direction Luffy wants him to go. Sanji has no idea, in that moment, that those hands are never, ever going to let him go.
(If he did have any idea, he might have prayed again for the first time since mama died, just to say thank you.)
“Come meet my brothers,” Luffy demands, equal parts spoiled and sunny in a way that manages to just be charming. “But just remember, I found you first!”

Remembered I have free will soooo more Urpi headcanons!
- I know I said I imagine her as Simone Ashley (and I stand by that choice) but also now Nadia from the Arcana.
- Big eyes and even bigger starer (Luffy had to get them from somewhere)
- Another trait of hers that got passed down to her grandson? That stupid lying face! She can’t lie properly at all.
- She’s not the biggest fan of alcohol, the only one she really tolerated was champagne (completely different story when she gets to Elbaf, their spiced mead is too good!)
- Elbaf has more of a barter system with their goods coupled with that with its bounty of warriors and Urpi feels right at home!
- She participates in the Winter Solstice Festival with ease! When Garp and Dragon found their way to Elbaf however….
- Occasionally the older giants remark that she reminds them of someone, a Mother Caramel?
- If she was ever presented with a DF she wouldn’t eat it, it’s just not her style. There was exactly one time when she was tempted but she hid it and never went back for it.
- The waters of the Blue Sea are a lot denser than the ones in Skypiea so she had to relearn to swim.
- The way she met Ivankov and revealed that she is Dragon's mom is the same as how Luffy revealed he’s Dragon’s son.
- Her and Bogard have a very informal book club. Neither of them read the same books they just yap at each other for a while.
- She’s got that Disney Princess thing where all the animals in the forest love her.
- Yknow that thing that moms do where they make you sit on the floor and they sit on a chair or the couch to do your hair? Yeah that’s Urpi.
- She trained Dragon in Haki and defensive measures but physically couldn’t bring herself to swing at him, the thought of hurting her baby makes her chest ache.
- She trains his mind with more fervor, makes him question why the world was the way it was and why the World Government made it so. She quizzes him randomly, it keeps Dragon on his toes at all times.
- Outside of Dragon, Sabo was the most excited to meet his grandma, he makes sure to tell her all his stories of him, Ace and Luffy gallivanting in the Goa Kingdom. He listens to everything she says with rapt attention, the Shandians were the forebringer of rebellions against the corrupt powers that be! He was going to learn all he could from her!
- While she doesn’t love pirates, she doesn’t completely hate them either. She doesn’t trust them a lick though.
- Roger was the exception to the rule. She could immediately he meant her no harm and is very relaxed but confused when they first meet. By the time Dragon's born they’ve settled into an easy back and forth repartee where he insists they’re like best friends and she maintains that she’s never met this man before in her life.
- When the news of Roger's execution and subsequent passing made its way to her, Urpi was genuinely upset and made a prayer for the scattered members of the former Roger Pirates.
- Rayleigh makes it a point to visit Elbaf more frequently on his travels to check up on Urpi, complete with a basket of goodies courtesy of Shakky's Rip-Off Bar. He and Shakky write down any information about Dragon and Garp so they don’t forget and include them in the basket.
- Oden and Toki are fascinated by her and she them. They have a little cultural exchange + Toki is the first person to correct call her a Shandian so they got along great.
- She’s certainly not as angry as she was in her youth but a hot streak like that can only truly be muffled, not extinguished.
- Love love LOVES the Strawhats so much! Finds them so sweet and endearing! Pinches their cheeks a little and slips them some money as all good grandmas do!
- If Dragon had been born a girl, he would be named after Nina.
- Urpi genuinely believes Shanks and Buggy had a really nasty breakup and that’s why they don’t talk anymore. She really hopes they work it out.
- She had been inconsolable upon first reaching Elbaf. The second they assured her she’d be safe here, Urpi fell to her knees and began to sob. She hadn’t felt so hopeless in a long time. She had no one of contacting her loved ones, no way of explaining herself. It took time before she was able to leave her bed for more than trips to the bathroom and even longer to exit the house she was so generously gifted.
- She hadn’t been able to pack a lot the night she made her escape. Her price possession was a photo of the three of them at a beach, big and bright smiles on each of their faces.
Adding on to these because this is delicious food:
- When Dragon first made the discovery that his mother was missing, he made a point of locating all of her sentimental things (because some of them had been stolen by the people that were looking to capture her). If the off chance happened that she was found alive and well and free, he would make sure they got to her. Among these sentimental things are: family photos, the quipu she kept to keep track of her garden yields, a couple of crayon drawings he had made when he was little, and a no less than a dozen knitted pieces made from amaru wool.
- Urpi was overjoyed to see Dragon was still wearing her earrings, even years later. Initially she had given them under strict instructions that if he was in a financial bind, they would serve their purpose. No amount of sentimentality justified letting him starve. She takes it as proof for how resourceful he is in the face of adversity, even when he- or anyone, for that matter- shouldn’t have to be.
- Dragon’s tattoo is partially in honor of his mother. The Shandia have many stories of snakes and their ties to vengeance and rebirth, and thus he took the patterning of a rattlesnake as inspiration. He got it some time after the Ohara Incident to vow vengeance for the scholars- and everyone who had been unjustly murdered, enslaved, or displaced by the World Government in their eight century rule. Once Mary Geoise topples, its victims are mourned, and the foundations for a fairer governing body is in place, he intends to ink over the red with black.
- Urpi will never in a thousand lifetimes forget the first time she heard Shandora’s bell. She was safe in her son’s arms, next to her husband, soaring higher and higher, breaking the wandering clouds and watching the white sea fly past beneath her. Then the vearth of Jaya… and then Shandora itself. The stepped temple at the capital city’s heart was no longer gilded like it was in ancient days, but it made the great golden bell gleam even brighter.
- finding her sister again after all these years was the greatest closure she had ever been given. Nina was old and gray lime herself by now, but she recognized those gentle eyes like she had seen them only yesterday.
- During their stay, she, Nina, and Garp would often see Dragon and Wyper have sparring matches. Wyper was in those youthful years where his hot-bloodedness was being tempered with wisdom, but nothing- and I mean nothing- would stop him from testing the mettle of his elder cousin. Nina was quick to explain that this was all friendly competition, but by the way Garp was beaming at the two men, he already knew.
- Dadan cried her eyes put when Dragon told her Urpi was alive. That woman had been more of a mother to her than her own flesh and blood and she was devastated when it came to her that she had gone missing.
- Urpi- much like she had with Kuzan- adopted Dadan into the family without question. She had met her on a day trip to the port market in Foosha (the fish was always fresher, cheaper, and tastier there) when Dragon was going from learning how to walk to learning how to run. Poor girl was half wild and needed a home and family, both of which Urpi was happy to give.
- since adopting Dadan, Dragon’s newfound mischievous streak spiked to an all time high. Urpi and Garp found this to be quite endearing, and encouraged it, so long as the mischief was harmless. It usually always was.
