market update // october 5th

it do be pumpkin season 🎃 got this kratos variety pumpkin (perfect name) from a farmer friend and i sketched out a scary design on it during the slow parts of the day. hope to carve it later this week. future me might regret it.

today was actually a pretty busy day! sooooooooo many return customers from spring all realized i was back from summer break and in a new spot, and shared so many stories about their garden and what grew and what didn't.

one customer said he didn't expect a 100% germination rate on his okra, and he and one other customer "complained" that the okra from seed grew TOO fast!! one day would be tiny, and the next day is too big to harvest. i don't eat okra, nor harvest for produce because i know it has to be picked at *just the right time* and i have no idea when that is 🫣 so i just grow okra for seed only. i asked customers what variety of okra should i grow for seed next year. one said an okra that grows slower or smaller, another said purple okra. which i assume is the burgandy okra since it's a deep red, it can be kinda purple.

had people ask for garlic and onion, and i've been sold out for a couple weeks. might need to get more bulbs so i can grow even more and have even more more of those next year.

also had 2 people ask for parsley seeds. sadly all my parsley got eaten by swallowtail caterpillars in the spring, so never went to seed.

was telling a lot of people about overwintering pepper plants. we are getting lows in the 40s late this coming week, so pepper plants need to be dug up and brought inside. they are technically perennials if kept warm enough. i got a couple more i need to dig up this week myself.

another customer bought an eggplant transplant from me in the spring and she said it's the biggest eggplant plant she ever grew and still going strong. i only sold patio baby eggplants in the spring, and they're a dwarf variety so that's kinda funny.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: seed storage! lots of people were buying seeds that you can't start until spring, so they were asking how to make them last. short answer: cool, dark, dry place. ez pz. long answer: imma do a post soon of all the good options and why some options are bad.

i've also known for being the lady who sells these variety 6 packs. they're super popular and always sell out quick. i take 3 varieties, 2 each, and put them in a 6-cell like this. sometimes i have a theme, like in the spring i had a taco tuesday 6-pack (2 tomatoes, 2 hot peppers, 2 beans) or a pizza 6-pack (2 tomatoes, 2 basil, 2 sweet peppers). nobody else at the market does this, and customers love it because then they don't have to make a decision 😅 just an idea for others who are looking to sell transplants in the spring.

i sold out of my ground cherry produce within 30 minutes. last day i was offering them. guess i'm growing more next year 🫠 sold out of all but 3 of my kale plants by end of market. sold a good chunk of seeds too. hope my inventory lasts 🫠

Just got a shared apartment with a tiny kitchen. What is this “no room for three people in the kitchen” shit? My kitchen has 1 square foot of countertop, and yet I still can’t imagine saying that it’s a danger to have someone cutting vegetables while another uses the toaster. Who turns around holding a knife so abruptly that they stab someone? Zena?

The most dangerous things about their kitchen are the mold spores and dreaded tortilla bag. And PZ flailing around with sharp objects, apparently.

PZ straight up are terrible roommates and guardians. Yeah, I didn't like going into the kitchen when roommates were there. I didn't make a big deal out of them being in a common area to eat. I just waited until they left.

Not cleaning the kitchen from mold is hella gross and irresponsible.

All of the screenshots I have so far of the RDR2-inspired zoo I'm starting up with my mom :D

I've been playing RDR2 exclusively with her watching, we found it for like $10 or so I think when we went out for my birthday and I started playing a couple months ago, it is such a fun game. And of course, loving the aesthetics, I just had to make a zoo based on it! So far I have a lil guest area based on Hani's Bethel because I thought it was fun, I stumbled across it trying to get those debts (and felt bad for taking what seemed to be the guy's life savings, but heck man he shouldn't have tried to get away without it) and managed to wait long enough to get the UFO, kind of shocked Arthur says nothing about it ngl.

Either way turns out I adore this game and similarly I adore Planet Zoo, so I had to combine them.

I didn't have many screenshots lol, I was so focused on building I just, didn't take many. But I really like building off the grid, actually. I had way more fun with this than I usually do struggling with things trying to snap together when they don't need to, or not snapping together right, or all the other strife that comes with building in this game. This? This was fun. I used just about every plank/beam piece I could get my hands on that looked decent, and I love how it looks. Not the most accurate and I have seen much better in this game, but I'm still learning and I cam super proud of this, also I need to fix that beam in the third image I just noticed that ew.

I'm putting a lil picket fence around the entire thing because I thought it would be fun and a good place to start tying things in to the whole zoo, and plan to put it around the guest paths as well for obvious reasons. I'm in sandbox so they won't care about the giant murder lizard right in front of them, thankfully.

This habitat has American Alligators, and I'll also add Mute Swans so I don't have to download another mod. I actually went through and got just about every animal I could find that's in RDR2 but not PZ, but then a remaster/variant mod of all things (I don't remember if it was the Gemsbok or Addax variants, sadly) repeatedly crashed my game whenever I opened the Zoopedia. I was not modding responsibly and ended up having to go through every single mod I've ever put in the game just to figure out which one it was, don't mod like me that was stupid why did I never playtest them one-by-one before this disaster, but all is fixed and I am in fact going to go through and test them all individually before I add them all in again (and as much as I love getting new variants... probably drop remasters haha. Except for the peafowl one) but woah was that not fun. I lost all of my original progress thanks to it lol, but that's fine because originally it was just a tiny duck pond and now I have a lil swampy spot with one of the coolest things I've ever built <3

I know there's no gators in that spot, but I took a creative liberty because I just, wanted gators lol. I then came up with a plan to name the Gators after members of the Van der Linde gang, and the swans after the O'Driscolls/just Irish names in general, which I thought was a lil funny.

All in all I am super proud of this so far. I need to build an entrance still but cabin!! (I also very intentionally added 11 tables!)

Just like with RDR2 itself I am building this one with my mom there to watch and give me ideas, super fun ngl. I love getting to include her in my stuff

Welp that run of Project Zomboid I started last night is dead. Since I've come back to PZ I've been having problems with mods. The first two times I launched the games all my mods were auto-disabled and I had to manually re-enable them. This time all my existing mods are enabled but most of my mods were deleted. I got the modpack from a friend and don't remember what mods he used. The font is so tiny it's hard for me to read what mods are missing and I kinda don't want to go back for them.

TTRPG WIP Tagged Post!

Soooooo in this post, I'll talk a lil bit on what I have cooking in the metaphorical game-making oven! I'll aslo give them a percent of their completion!

1. GRIM, a Quake-inspired TTRPG (95%, 24 pages)

Quake is a game I have recently fallen in love with, and GRIM reflects that love superbly. In its fast, brutal, and accessible combat, it emulates what it feels like to run through fleshy castles and sci-fi facilities.

GRIM is very similar to another game I made that was inspired by Doom called MOURN, and like it, it uses coin flips as the "check" system, and multiples of 5 to calculate damage so that mathing won't math as hard.

GRIM is my favorite game I have worked on, and I even commissioned a theme by Eric Castiglia to be made that will be published on my YouTube channel TODAY (8/11/23) at 1pm EST, so stay tuned 0.0

2. The Warrior's Poet (60%, mid-sized)

This will be my first ever solo game, and it focuses on the relationship between a Champion and their Poet. In this game, you will journal and chronicle your journeys with rolls of a d20 to determine what situation has arisen, and then, at the end of each act, you will write a stanza of a poem that reflects these recent happenings! Your Champion can also die if they are not careful, so be sure to chronicle your journeys well!

I am going to release the game in two acts per game, and then if enough interest is gained, I'll make it into more! This is mainly just a test on how to do these games, however!

3. Welcome to Castordale! (30%, mid-sized)

Ez pz explanation. You are beavers, trying to build a home and community with tools, technology, and friendship. it has no combat, and is more of a Stardew Valley experience than a DnD experience. I have the basic plans for the game, as well as some character designs, but I have a lot to work on here!

4. Lil Tiny Experimental Games and Projects

Every month or so I release a small, experimental game that kinda just pops out of nowhere. I have tons of ideas (if u steal at least credit me), so I'll list them here!

My Modding Story, Looking Back

I remember when I first started modding games, Planet Zoo. Unlike Sims 4, most games require mountains and hurdles to get the actual modding process started. I was struggling to figure out launching python stuff for the very first time (now I can create small applications with it) and I reached out to one of the only like 3 people who had made a PZ mod so far that I knew of to ask. Instead of answering my 'how do I..' question they said, "If you can't do something as basic as install Python, this modding thing probably isn't for you." [Little things can stump you, but it doesn't mean you're not smart, that's just part of the process.]

I beat my head on the wall until I figured it out through finding the at the time, almost unknown tiny discord with a faint flicker of a community and in it the Legendary Hendrix himself (who I then realized MADE THE PZ MODDING TOOLS I was struggling with), pretty much the father of Zoo Tycoon modding. Apparently he himself did not realize he was so well known to some. I was so freaking shocked to see he resurfaced like 14, 15 years later. I wonder why he likes zoo games in particular. ZT was my favorite game, a big part of my childhood, and his contributions were part of what made me grow up to learn 3D modeling, rigging, reto, texturing and eventually major in animation. I was..beside myself. Stunned.

Despite being an orbital moon and me being a little speck of dirt on the ground in terms of programming knowledge, this person patiently hand held typing out the steps for me and getting me through my first janky mod. Never criticized the process. I got to nod like an itty bitty little tiger cub and hold up my unicorn. (Classic ZT callback.)

wow the first day back from break sure was weird. did not find out the status of the chicken nugget stuck to the ceiling (maybe tomorrow) - did, however, discover that the person that drags me on the floor for enrichment was for whatever reason carrying a ton of deer teeth and this tiny thing of mouthwash. both of which he was showing off on the table in the library out of boredom and jokingly threatening to consume. one was apparently for a trade and the other was a christmas gift. he also told me that i should listen to my heart and buy project zomboid because he loves it himself so i will be doing that it's an instruction now (/silly).. no guarantee i'll play right away cuz i'm scared of new things and i'm also still playing thru the seer mod on rainworld right now which is very fun im busy. i have a very strong feeling that actually playing the game (pz) will not kill the hyperfixation on it anyway considering it's been on and off since i discovered it. it will probably make it worse. uh oh

I was really productive today and tried to stay focused on whatever task was at hand. I made it a point not to rush either, I'd take my time with everyone knowing I would get it done in a reasonable time which was a big deal because I'm always moving quickly and feel stressed about things. Today's topic was defusion too so I kept telling myself out loud the thoughts that would appear in my head so I could take note of it and keep doing what I was doing.

I cleaned my bed today and moved it back out to cut the room in half like I had it before. I think it makes the room feel a lot nicer that way. I also found a simple and satisfying way to tuck all 3 blankets under the mattress on one side so it stays secure. And this time I let the sheet blanket drape on one side with the deer design on it showing.

My sister's poorly trained dog got out of his kennel and got into some cans today which really pissed me off. He's done this a bunch of times before but he always get into the garbage and spreads it everywhere. I dont know what my parents do about it, nothing apparently since he isn't deterred to fuck everything up. It's not my job to punish him but I did yell at him and maybe went a little overboard posturing at him and trying to spook him with a hat I picked up. I lost my temper a bit and I'm not proud of it, but I didn't hurt him. I did slam my hand down onto a big wooden dresser and gave myself a little welt though. My punishment towards him was not effective, I know that. He was mostly just growling at me.

I had a hard time caring about the first commission I finished this morning. I feel bad because I want to be someone that cares about what my customers want, even if I don't care for the subject matter. But I still think I should be able to feel a level of importance doing it for them and that in tern would help me ensure a higher quality. Sometimes its just not there though.

Costar was kinda of accurate today, it suggests alone time and boundaries. I definitely think I need some alone time, I think I've been spreading myself thin like always and I need to build myself back up to keep going. Its just another case of learning how to take care of myself.

I was kinda looking forward to playing Starfield all day but I didn't get the proper time for it. I still had fun though, this evening DS and I perused some content and played Dress to Impress and she read Monster High in bed. It was a good night. I even did squeeze a tiny bit of Starfield in learning how to set up a base while I popped into BR's server where they were watching the old Twister movie.

PZ has lowkey been ghosting me and I'm not sure I'm actually going to get his world done for him. It's such a shame because I've been meaning to do it for a long time and finally got around to it, largely as an act of kindness. But he's really bad at reciprocating literally anything and is probably the worst person I've ever met to stick to any kind of plan. I don't really know what to do about this aside from continuing to bug him. Maybe I should try attending events and talking with him there, it would be nice if we actually hung out but again, I can't because he is so unreliable.
