I will say that y’all gotta lay off my girl Jiang Yanli 😭 She may have done a few small questionable things in life *cough*the wedding dress*cough* but saving Wei Wuxian was not one of them. She only died because she intentionally gave her life to save Wei Wuxian. She used up the last of her strength to shove him, a fully grown man, out the path of a sword trying to backstab him. She saw it coming when nobody else did and chose to save him. It was her choice. Don’t take that away from her by calling her impulsive or acting like “if only she had time to think,” she would have chosen differently. If one Jiang was gonna give themself to Wei Wuxian wholeheartedly, it was gonna be the one who publicly claimed him as her brother. Cause that’s what real family does.

Do people not understand what Katara being completely non-combative in LOK says about her? Zuko became active again to protect his daughter from the Red Lotus. Toph became active again to save her daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons from Kuvira.

How many times were Katara's children and grandchildren in danger? And she was nowhere to be found, not once. Genuinely, how the fuck do you think that makes her look compared to Zuko and Toph (one of which is older than she is)? Are you going to look me in the eye and tell me there's nothing wrong with that? Are you going to try and tell me that this is Master Katara of the Southern Water Tribe?

Nope. Not buying it. That is not the Katara I grew up with. That is not the Katara I looked up to my whole life.

Stop defending her treatment in LOK. There's no excuse for what Bryke did to her. They completely assassinated everything that made Katara who she was. If you think differently, you never understood her character

Does it ever hit you that Martha sat down in New New York and told the Doctor that she needed his honesty more than she needed to go home and that religious music played in the background at that scene and it was almost framed as a confession, in the most religious sense, and go a little bit feral? That as early as her third episode, she was framed as his equal, equally divine, equally a doctor, able to confront him, able to make him honest, able to sympathize with him, able to abide with him? That so few companions have ever spent so much time in one time period with the Doctor (1969/1913, for example), being with him/her, not running, just staying? That for every fucking thing Ten did wrong as John Smith/after coming back to himself in Human Nature/Family of Blood, he trusted her enough to leave himself vulnerable and human in her care, because he trusted her as a Doctor, because she was just as much a Doctor as he was? That Martha was, more than any other companion of the Tenth Doctor's, his equal, that her final speech about not being second was not just talking about her not being second best to Rose but about being second best to him? That she finally understood what had been true from the moment that they met and she closed Stoker's eyes and the Doctor realized that she had not just bravery and cleverness but a kindness that he had forgotten, that Martha Jones, more than anything else, has been and always will be The Doctor?

I wish everyone would stop saying that Wake doesn't care about Gideon or is a bad mother. We only have Wake's own word - to her greatest enemy, no less! - that she never cared about the baby in the first place, and everything she does after her death runs totally contrary to that anyway.

To start with, she's a soul cut loose from a body by apopneumatism. Revenants tend not to last very long - Harrow didn't believe Palamedes would be able to hang on without a corpus for anything like as long as he did, for instance - but Wake is in that sword for 18 entire years. Yeah, you could argue her hatred sustained her, it seems to be the case that ghosts are fueled by their emotions, but does anyone really believe that hate is enough? In this series? Was it hate that drove Donald Sex to take control of a maintenance skeleton and crawl across the surface of Mercury to break into his study? No.

We get most of our direct understanding of Wake in the sword from Harrow - she's a necromancer, and even if she's not a spirit magician she can still feel Wake's soul. Specifically, she feels her hate. Wake has seen Harrow bully and belittle Gideon her entire life. In Canaan House, Harrow is able to handle the Wake sword well enough to bring it to Gideon without puking her guts up, it's only after Gideon dies for her that the hatred becomes so intense that Harrow can't touch it any more. I don't think it could be more clear that Wake is reacting to how Harrow treats Gideon.

And then there's Gideon herself - she's not a necromancer, but I think she still feels some of Wake's presence. Her longsword is comforting, she associates it with safety and strength, and yes that's because she's trained in its use, but I do not think its a coincidence that at her lowest point, when Isaac is dead and she has Jeannemary screaming in her arms, she wants Harrow, and her mother - the two people she loves most in the universe.
