A man in Brazil stopped a robbery with a katana.

As a Brazilian person, I feel it is my duty to occasionally bring to you wack news coming from my country. Lucky for me, about 2-3 weeks ago on August 13th, a man in Belo Horizonte stopped a robbery at his building by charging at the thieves with a katana. He has been dubbed “the samurai of Belo Horizonte”.

A man used a katana, a traditional sword used by samurais in Japan, to chase down a group of suspects who were attempting to steal bicycles from a garage in a condominium in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais (a state in Brazil).

Alisson D’jean, who became known as the “Samurai of BH” [Belo Horizonte] went viral when the images won over social networks on Friday the 25th. The robbery attempt, however, occurred on August 13th.

In an interview exclusive to CNN, Alisson says it was his mother who first noticed the robbery, after hearing noises of someone breaking into the garage doors.

The “samurai,” who is a physiotherapist, reported the experience on his Instagram stories, and said he decided to act on his own accord after the military police, according to him, did nothing after three previous break-ins to the condominium [by the same suspects].

After checking the security cameras, the [fourth] invasion was confirmed. The samurai put on some clothes, grabbed the katana, and ran to the elevator, where he met up with the building manager [who was checking the security camera footage on his phone].

“I grabbed this samurai sword, a handmade katana, a weapon of war, really, because I didn’t know what I was walking into, I didn’t know how many [invaders], I didn’t know what kind of weapons they had,” reports the physiotherapist, who says he began using this type of sword almost 30 years ago.

According to Alisson, the decision was taken with the sole intention of protecting himself, his family, and the other building residents. “At no point was I concerned with the bicyles. I don’t even own a bicycle,” he says.

In the images, it’s possible to see Alisson and the building manager in the elevator. After getting out [of the elevator], the “samurai” begins running after the suspects, who, scared, ditch the bicycles and flee. No one was injured. In the days following this incident, no other break-in attempts were reported.

He’s not on the road jockeying for the latest sound byte on CNN or some podcast - he’s working to implement the policies people want. He’s tweeting about Mountain Dew. He’s at the state fair eating fried food and talking to his constituents. This is the governor we know. A man who cares deeply about the work he does and the people he represents, not the fame, not the clicks.

He’s genuine. Minnesotans know that. Now it’s time to sell that to the rest of the country.

I don't often miss the chance to gloat about this sort of thing, so I also wanna mention that this artwork was made with the help of 3D modelling (with models I made myself!!!) There do exist 3D posing resources that can be used with zero modelling knowledge (such as https://justsketch.me/) however they almost always have some features behind a paywall, whether it be different body proportions, props, or camera controls.

Knowing how to use Blender may not be easy or fast, but by god is it free.

Contrary to popular belief, I think s4 being the final season is not necessarily a bad thing. The first season was 8 episodes and they told a complete story. Through their success, they have gotten to expand on that story and the characters throughout the past two seasons, mileage may vary.

For me, next season the important things to touch on is Sydney’s backstory, all of Carmy’s conflict resolutions, and whatever they decide lies ahead for Sydney and Carmy as business partners and hopefully a realization that everything they have felt for each other is on a deeper level than just professional admiration. There is a lot to wrap up but I trust Chris and Joanna will be able to carry this very complex and dynamic story home and stick the landing as they say.

I will forever be grateful to Chris Storer specifically for seeing Ayo, and giving her this star making opportunity. Not only has she been given the opportunity to show range, not just comedic, but dramatic, introspective, ambitious, anxious, talented, intelligent, and discerning. Something we rarely get from Black women leads on television. Also providing her the opportunity to flex her creativity and mentoring her through direction was beautiful to watch and she flourished. Her episode was one of the most highly rated in s3.

What I love about the creatives behind the bear, including (og) cast and crew is that they all recognize the greatness in everyone. They have a genuine respect for each other and what their show represents and what it means to people. I feel they will go to the ends of the earth to support each other and the work they have done together and individually. They really seem like a family despite any perceived mess and drama. I look forward to supporting what they all do when this era comes to an end, celebrating their wins or losses, and how this wild ride concludes.
