Yami no Purple Eye (aka Purple Eyes in the Dark) is one of the craziest most 80s shojo manga I've ever read

You got

Transforming cat people

That one Tumblr post about purple eyes being like a rare genetic condition

A mad scientist lady whose father tried to prove the existence of the cat people but was rejected and went insane so now she's continuing his work by experimenting on a 16 year old girl

Said 16 year old girl's younger sister gets mauled to death by the scientist's dogs at like the end of volume 1

A lot of horrible bloody brutal murder

Injuries that you'd think would kill these people but I guess their cat powers help them heal faster?

Also the cat people have shorter lifespans as a result of being cat people. That's very important they bring it up a lot

Sexual assault

Unplanned pregnancy as a result of said sexual assault

Assaulter dying in an explosion

Mad scientist lady kidnaps this girl's baby and gets her eye gouged out and fucking thrown off a cliff and somehow survives

16 year old girl gets cryogenically frozen and brainwashed for 15 years

Cousin incest

Teased-but-never-actually-happened adoptive father/daughter incest

Transforming cat people clan warfare

More explosion deaths

I am not kidding there is so much fucking death in this manga

A priest gets rocks dropped on him

Blood transfusions in exchange for lobotomies

An anime adaptation in the form of a 30 minute long slideshow AMV that doesn't actually tell you what the plot is and has very little animation but at least the art and music are pretty

It's bananas. I burst out laughing at some of the shit in this. I wouldn't say I recommend any of y'all read it if you're squeamish, but I had a good time. Go look up the 30 minute AMV on YouTube if you're curious, though; it's pretty good!
