Fun fact: Kirby characters aren't the only things I have plushies for.
I just have them as standalone from the rest of my plushies. Because I'm sooo much more into Kirby than any other franchise lol.
But here are some plushies I have that are not in my Kirby collection, as they are from different franchises.
I've had them for several years now.

As you can see, there's a lot of pokemon.
I'm most proud of the Gengar plush. It's amazing.

I think Silver's Pokémon Team should be a mono-psychic + an Absol...
An Absol with the Psychic Teratype.

I legit think I only dislike Kecleon’s shiny because both the anime and mystery dungeon had a special color Kecleon and that made so much more sense as a shiny imo but noooooo! Blue stripe instead!
I would have loved a purple shiny, it would have been soo cool but atlas
It's actually been shown with more colors too

All I have to say is: purple Kecleon Espio. I know it's only canon to the PMD games but please consider my vision--
Oooh, this actually made me laugh a little.
What if Charmy was the trainer? With his Krookodile and Kecleon making sure he doesn't get in trouble.
He'd totally have a Combee and a Weedle that he's trying to evolve into a Beedrill.

Sooo... I did a thing. Here's the list of Pokémon I think would fit the td reboot cast. Choices are based on either esthetic, personality, certain characteristics or a mix of everything. I'm planning on doing the other casts as well, btw.
Axel: Scizor - I thought about an "axe" Pokémon, and the only thing that came to mind was Kleavor, but since I didn't want to give her a Pokémon from 200 years ago (no, I don't count the fact that you can have it on SV), I thought about the closest thing to it, and that was Scizor, which is still pretty fitting, if you ask me.
Bowie: Meowscarada - I decided to have Bowie and Priya foil each other. I haven't played SV, but from the Pokédex entries I've read, it seems like Meowscarada uses deceit to hit it's enemies. Plus, I think Dark type fits Bowie pretty well, and it also has his color palette (green and purple, though in reverse quantity).
Caleb: Dragonair - At first I wanted to go for a pink Pokémon since it's his main color, but I already headcanoned Milotic with Alejandro, so I went with the next closest thing. Plus, if in season 2 his own description ends up being true (strong and kind) Dragonite could be pretty fitting too.
Chase: Impidimp - A reddish little trickster gremlin who likes to cause chaos. I don't think I need to explain more.
Damien: Kecleon - Decided to go with his "biology nerd" side. A Kecleon seems like a species he would be really interested in, while also being a not-too-strong Pokémon.
Emma: Morpeko - I couldn't help thinking about the "Bad Emma" during the pole challenge. Plus, an overall cute Pokémon who gets angry because of a specific reason seems pretty on point.
Julia: Zweilous - Two-faced Dark type Pokémon, violent and strong. The colors are actually the opposite of hers (white, yellow and light blue vs black, blue and red). She probably wouldn't use it too often, but it does fit.
Millie: Gothita - I started thinking Psychic types would fit her well, so I started looking into it, and Gothita's Dex description is funnily on point. Observes other Pokémon and Humans to watch things only it seems to see (self-explanatory), and it apparently talks alone (which could represente her notebook).
MK: Nickit - Didn't know whether to go with the technology side or the thieving side, but in the end I chose the more obvious one.
Nichelle: Mime Jr. - A pink little Fairy, who becomes a full fledged performer (both as Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime), is the closest thing to an actor I could think about for her.
Priya: Quaquaval - Foiling Bowie, a Fighting type fitting of her, with her same blue palette and oriental elements in the design. Meowscarada and Quaquaval also have a weakness and a resistance to each other. Also a callback to when she acted as a bird to save Millie from the cassowary.
Raj: Alolan Vulpix - Ice type who become a Fairy type, the more trickster type (he was the one who came up with the idea to stop the raptor). Funnily enough both Ice and Fairy are super effective against Bowie's Meowscarada.
Ripper: Stunky - Do I really need to explain this? At some point he even does the same pose.
Scary Girl: Mimikyu - I could have gone with any Ghost type, but I thought about when Zee said she dressed like a doll, so I decided it was either Mimikyu or Banette.
Wayne: Alolan Sandshrew - Ice type who's also a Steel type, more strong willed and super effective against Raj's fairy (the leader and more competitive).
Zee: Slowpoke - I thought Water types fit Zee pretty well, and Slowpoke is probably the laxest and dumbest Pokémon I could have chosen. Psyduck was also an option at some point, but Golduck was too cool-looking for him.

Gates to Infinity
During my initial PMD playthroughs, I was considering skipping Gates altogether, as I had heard almost nothing but negative things about it up until that point.
However, my friend who I was liveblogging my PMD playthroughs to, she said that Gates to Infinity was good, too.
And so, after completing Rescue Team DX and Explorers, I acquired Gates to Infinity.
Quite possibly the best decision to get a game I've ever made.
As while Gates to Infinity is not my favorite game of all time, it's the game that brought the most to me, that affected me for the better the most.
As while games like Mario and Luigi Dream Team are amazing fun experiences that I treasure dearly…they didn't change my life like Gates to Infinity did.
It was Gates to Infinity that caused me to stick with PMD. It's what inspired me to start writing Eternal Shadows. It's what led me to meet so many amazing people. It's why I'm still talking about PMD today.
No other game has brought me so much happiness in the long term as Gates to Infinity has.
It's a bit silly why I started Eternal Shadows in the first place, really. I was playing through Gates to Infinity's opening, and it was so different from both Rescue Team DX's and Explorers'. It had an air to it that neither of those had.
2020 me thought it felt a lot like Kingdom Hearts, and I decided to write a PMD opening with very heavy Kingdom Hearts inspiration as a proof of concept.
That "proof of concept" is what is now known as Eternal Shadows.
Beyond how it personally shaped me, though…Gates to Infinity is a truly wonderful game.
Some may say it's a downgrade over Explorers. That it took things away from what made Explorers so great.
And…I would agree with that second sentence, in a way.
Gates to Infinity does remove a lot of stuff from Explorers. No personality quiz, severely limited Pokemon roster, no Spinda's Cafe, no IQ, no long second story in the postgame, and no purple Kecleon or Kangaskhan.
But Gates to Infinity doesn't need to be Explorers. It's not Explorers. And much of what it removes, it adds something new in its place.
While there's no personality quiz, for the first time, you can choose your protagonist's species, a feature that would remain in newer games.
IQ is gone, replaced by the much less grindy Team Skills system. No longer do you have to grind for gummis so your partner won't walk over exposed traps.
There's no Spinda's Cafe, but you build something similar through Paradise. You can build your own facilities, talk to your recruits in the town you have built, and it even serves as a hub.
There's no postgame story to the magnitude of Explorers', but what is there, is something unlike anything Explorers or Rescue Team gives you. It might not be as long, but a story doesn't need to be long to be good.
And while the loss of the purple Kecleon, Kangaskhan, and the large Pokemon roster could be considered objective downgrades…they don't ruin the experience at all, at least for me.
There's other flaws, too, like the slow text speed, and inability to choose gender, but I digress, and don't mind them at all.
Gates to Infinity doesn't carry over the letter of Explorers. It isn't a sequel to it in the way that Explorers is one to Rescue Team. But it carries over the spirit of it.
Like Adventure Squad, it still has the heart of PMD.
Yet unlike Adventure Squad, it's not afraid to show it.
Gates to Infinity still tells a heartfelt story about a former human who winds up in a world of Pokemon.
It has well-developed characters, amazing music that uses motifs wonderfully, and a touching farewell scene.
What does being a PMD game mean, really?
Does it mean pixel graphics, macguffins to collect, and guilds?
Or is it the story of a former human, who partners up with a Pokemon, eventually saving the world, before having to say goodbye?
Of course, some might just say "PMD gameplay". And there's nothing wrong with that answer!
The dungeon-delving gameplay is a core part of the experience, too. And sometimes, it makes the majority of the experience, like with Adventure Squad.
And yes, Gates to Infinity has some problems with the mystery dungeons. Repetitive room generation, party members wandering off, and that small Pokemon roster.
But it also has things Explorers doesn't.
It introduces the reunion cape item, my favorite item in all of PMD, and very useful for reuniting with lost party members.
It has outside areas to mystery dungeons, a first for the series, and even sometimes has small puzzles with them.
And without the IQ system, your party members have much better navigation and combat skills by default.
But the gameplay isn't what I love about Gates to Infinity so much. It's its story, characters, and the emotions it instilled in me.
I cried not even 15 minutes into Gates to Infinity, when I heard Ragged Mountain for the first time. I recognized it from Oddity Cave from Rescue Team DX, and…yeah.
I initially thought I wasn't going to be able to name my Snivy partner, but then we get to the future site of Paradise, and he lets me give him a name, in-universe.
Virizion's character arc is wonderful, and I love how she and Keldeo reconcile.
I love Dunsparce's bravery, and how Emolga gives up his spot on the Great Glacier expedition so Dunsparce can go.
One of my favorite moments in the entire game, and even just thinking about it right now is making me start to cry.
I love the first-person perspectives with Umbreon seeking shelter in Post Town, and how Espeon just wanted to do the right thing and feels so guilty for putting Swadloon in danger.
And Emolga!
Emolga my absolute beloved.
I love his friendship with Umbreon, I love his reconciliation and developing relationship with Virizion, I love his goofiness! He's my favorite canon Pokemon character ever!
And not to skip over Hydreigon, either. The Voice of Life is such a cool title and concept, and I love how you think they'll be the villain, only for them to come and save you, and be an absolute dork.
Even the protagonist! Even they have some character to them, and actually talk!
And then the story. Oh, the story of Gates to Infinity.
For a bit of context, I was…not feeling very well mentally when I started playing the PMD games.
It's a bit cliche, but, well…I was feeling pretty hopeless.
And Gates to Infinity took that hopelessness and melted it away.
Its theme of how hope can be found even in the darkest of times, how you can find friends even when you feel like you're all alone…it meant a lot to me. It still means a lot to me.
And the ending…I have never cried harder at a story in my life.
Everyone's final messages to you through the frism, how they remembered you, how even if you may never meet again, how they wanted you to have a good life…it broke me, in a good way.
My second favorite moment in all of PMD, and part of what led me to writing A Way to Reunite.
Gates to Infinity may not be Explorers. It may lack stuff, even important stuff that Explorers has.
But Gates to Infinity has heart. So, so much heart.
It's not soulless, it's the farthest thing from soulless.
Gates to Infinity is a true PMD game, and I'll always love it with all my heart.
I've also compiled my liveblog notes from when I played Gates to Infinity for the very first time, if anyone is interested in reading that, but unfortunately it'll have to be on Discord, as I initially wrote them on Discord, and porting around 5000 words of liveblogging to here does not sound like fun to me.
So, if you want to read it, hit me up on Discord! My username is @ifbench, just like on here.
I hope you've all enjoyed this, and I hope to have my Super retrospective ready soon.

Idea for an Explorers playthrough!
Through the power of Action Replay, Hero and Partner are Pokémon who would normally be unobtainable in gameplay (specifically, Primal Dialga, shiny Celebi, and purple Kecleon.)
MAN it would be so funny to just walk up to Dusknoir as Primal Dialga and he’s like “What the fuck.”
Or like Primal Dialga is partner so you have this giant dude who has crippling anxiety and his best friend is a tiny pink onion fairy or a chameleon.
Or the Grovyle boss fight where he sees shiny Celebi and Primal Dialga about to fight him and has an internal crisis.
Or everyone being scared of Kecleon because they know what happens if you shoplift.
My run is of Team Shroud, with a human-turned-Kecleon named Vivid, and their partner is Primal Dialga named Zodiac.
oh my GOD
randomizers are funny on their own, but also having changes happen where the other characters react to what they're looking at is a hilarious idea

Pokemon needs to use the color forms more
Just randomly remembered that Kecleon had that purple variant from mystery dungeon and it even made an appearance on the anime
Tumblr media
And the shiny form of Kecleon only has a minor change of the red zigzag is blue on the shiny
And they haven't retconned it to be the purple one that most saw before the shiny
So this has been one of those rare forms that's “unobtainable”
Then as I thought about it and while playing Pokemon Violet and saw the Squawkabilly different colors
Tumblr media
At first, I thought the first different one I saw was shiny but it wasn't, it was just a form
Then I remembered that even pokemon like Vivilon and the Flabebe line the different colors are considered forms
Tumblr media
Let alone Pokemon like Shellos with its West and East form being not only pink and blue but the smaller differences of their head shape
So I just figured that they should do that for Pokemon like Kecleon to have the purple version
And there are other Pokemon like that, like all the pink Pokemon from the anime including the iconic pink Butterfree
And even stuff like Crystal Onix, the Mewtwo movie variants with the spots and such, the orange island forms, and even the Magikarp patterns from Magikarp Jump, etc…
Tumblr media
These kinda take away from the shiny forms especially since most are better than their shinies but I think it's just a consequence when you have a more boring shiny design for some of these Pokemon
But that doesn't really apply for Pokemon like Vivilon as the different patterns make them more appealing than the black-and-white swap the body gets in its shiny form
Plus people just like the rarity and shiny sparkle and will still hunt them and such for even just completion purposes
And back to Kecleon, they could just play with color animations more like have it change colors constantly
Tumblr media
Shame that even if this is a idea to make it work
Time has always been an issue for Gamefreak as this does mean they have to make new models even if it really is just a color difference it'll take time away from other stuff
