Excerpt from this story from the LA Times:
There’s a lithium bonanza happening at the Salton Sea.
The boom started when one of the world’s largest supplies of lithium was discovered one mile below the dying lake. The metal is required to produce electric car batteries and is essential to reducing carbon emissions.
Yet lost in the excitement about the money and new jobs that the mining projects could bring are the concerns of the people who live there.
The impoverished area — which is more than 80% Latino — already has a childhood asthma rate that is more than twice the national average.
The asthma cases have been tied to the toxic dust created as the Salton Sea recedes from lack of water. And some local residents fear that the number of respiratory cases could soar even higher as the lithium mining projects drink up more of the area’s much fought over allocation from the Colorado River.
Residents also worry about the hazardous waste that the mining projects could create. And the area’s Indigenous tribes are concerned that sites they consider sacred, including Obsidian Butte, a volcanic outcropping on the Salton Sea’s shore, could be disturbed.
In March, a local community group called Comite Civico del Valle, along with Earthworks, a national nonprofit, filed a legal petition to stop the first of the planned lithium mining projects, which is known as Hell’s Kitchen.
The groups say the potential hazards of the project by Controlled Thermal Resources, a privately held company, were not properly studied before the Imperial County Board of Superiors unanimously approved it in January.
“Controlled Thermal Resources boasts about the sustainability attributes of direct lithium extraction, yet public health, hazardous waste, and water concerns remain unresolved,” said Luis Olmedo, executive director of Comite Civico del Valle.
The two groups want the project halted until the risks are studied and measures are taken to mitigate any harm that could happen to the communities or environment.
The county and company disagree and say that the project’s potential risks were properly considered in the environmental impact statement that California law requires.
“The County believes that the concerns were adequately addressed during the initial stages of the project development,” said Eddie Lopez, a county spokesperson.
Jim Turner, Controlled Thermal Resources’ president, said the company spent two years performing studies to ensure that the lithium could be extracted safely. The board of supervisors agreed that the company had completed that work, he said. “The official opinion is that the job was done very well,” he said.
Government officials are among those who want to move quickly. They say the Salton Sea could be the cleanest major source of lithium in the world and make the U.S. a major player in production.
Controlled Thermal Resources and two other companies with mining projects in the works use a process in which the metal is extracted from the hot, steaming brine that geothermal power plants bring up from the depths to produce electricity.
Lithium is removed from the brine before it is reinjected back into the geothermal reservoir deep underground.
The process, known as direct lithium extraction, is said to be far less damaging to the environment than hard rock mining or by pumping brine into large evaporation ponds.
The U.S. produces very little lithium even though the demand is great and growing fast with the rising purchases of electric vehicles.
Already 11 geothermal plants have been built around the lake. Controlled Thermal Resources’ project would be the first to combine electricity generation with lithium extraction.

With temperatures on the SR-71’s leading edges exceeding 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit, dealing with the heat raised a host of seemingly insurmountable design and material challenges. Titanium alloy was the only option for the airframe —providing the strength of stainless steel, a relatively light weight, and durability at the excessive temperatures.
Kirchoff’s law of thermal radiation this basically states that a good absorber is a good emitter , and a good absorber of heat is a black body.
Black paint generated, and Emissivity value of 0.93 compared with 0.38 for bare titanium resulting in a reduction in surface temperature of 15 to 30 degrees celsius. This was well worth this 60 pounds in additional weight of paint.
In Ben Riches Book “Skunk Works,” it was himself who suggested this idea to Kelly Johnson. Ben was the second man in control of the Skunk Works after Kelly’s retirement..
Titanium, however, proved to be a particularly sensitive material from which to build an airplane. The brittle alloy shattered if mishandled, which meant great frustration on the Skunk Works assembly line, and new training classes for Lockheed’s machinists. Conventional cadmium-plated steel tools, it was soon learned, embrittled the titanium on contact; so new tools were designed and fabricated—out of titanium.
But most important the US did not have the necessary ore. The world’s largest supplier of it was the Soviet Union, America’s enemy during the Cold War.
Titanium procurement during the Cold War was so vital to the US’ goal of defeating the Soviet Union that it had to secretly buy the metal from the very country it sought to vanquish. It was 1960 and Washington needed spy planes that could avoid detection in Soviet airspace by flying to the heavens. To make what would become the vaunted SR-71 Blackbird, Lockheed knew it had to build a light plane, but one that was strong enough to hold extra fuel to give it expansive range. The only metal that would do the job was titanium. The only place to get titanium in the needed quantities was the Soviet Union.
The US worked through Third World countries and fake companies and finally was able to ship the ore to the US to build the SR-71.
“The airplane is 92% titanium inside and out. Back when they were building the airplane the United States didn’t have the ore supplies – an ore called rutile ore. It’s a very sandy soil and it’s only found in very few parts of the world. The major supplier of the ore was the USSR. Working through Third World countries and bogus operations, they were able to get the rutile ore shipped to the United States to build the SR-71,” famous former SR-71 pilot Colonel Rich Graham said in an interesting article appeared on BBC. According to the following video, one of the bogus operations mentioned by Graham saw the US asking Soviets for titanium because they needed it for pizza ovens youtu.be/9mVXdo0QmPo
And Russians easily believed that the US needed titanium for thousands of pizza ovens. After all, they fraudulently possibly told their comrades that the United States was a lazy country that probably couldn’t even cook for itself. They need it to go out to buy pizza…
Ultimately, through third parties and fake companies, the US, “managed to unobtrusively purchase the base metal from one of the world’s leading exporters – the Soviet Union,” according to the book Skunk Works by Ben Rich, a Lockheed Martin engineer who worked on the SR-71. “The Russians never had an inkling of how they were actually contributing to the creation of the airplane being rushed into construction to spy on their homeland.”

G53U finished repairing the window projector 54 seconds past the deadline indicated in the ticket. It was understandable why the SecUnit's dark visor, turned towards him, seemed tense. The Unit should have detected the potential delay in advance and taken measures to ensure that junior technician G53U wasn’t slacking off. But neither the Unit nor G53U could have predicted that, after replacing the window control module (which burned out after Supervisor Bethane threw a chair at the SecUnit and missed), it would turn out that all the image files were hopelessly corrupted. And now they had to be urgently acquired from somewhere.
G53U didn’t have a single service token to purchase a new set of landscape images. And with what he usually received, he could only afford a picture for the public halls, and even then, only in low resolution. So, G53U resorted to extreme measures.
Permission to contact block 87-76-554, - he sent to the SecUnit, hastily assembling a code that vaguely resembled a supervisor-level access key. To be sure, he displayed the code for less than 0.001 seconds, so the SecUnit wouldn’t have time to record it and verify it. G53U wouldn’t have been able to. As for the SecUnit—who knows? G53U hadn’t tested that before, only speculated.
Affirmative? - the SecUnit responded uncertainly. It might have managed to check the code but hadn’t reported the verification to SecSystem and its governor module.
Without wasting another second, G53U dove into block 87-76-554, the facility’s public data repository, partially using the permission just issued by the SecUnit. He quickly found the needed images and videos, filtering out the popular and free content while marking the exclusive ones—those created or filmed by artists on corporate commission or auctioned for senior executive use. The quality of the previews was truly impressive, but each file was incredibly expensive, and some came as premium or holiday tokens for management. So G53U assigned the SecUnit the task of trying to defragment the corrupted files from the old window module. And while the Unit flooded the feed with information about why SecUnits shouldn’t be doing this, G53U was breaking the file protection, using access codes he'd stolen from the SecUnit itself during the joint window repair (the SecUnit had tried to set up walls and protest against overly close contact, but 057-G insisted that full modules integration was needed to extract information from the burnt-out block and to perform a complete replacement).
G53U also negotiated with the Unit's governor module, rather crudely, creating a loop for its commands and overrides that triggered thermal and electrical shocks. This, too, was justified because when the tech and construct systems were integrated, the nasty program would hit not only the construct’s brain but augmented human's too. Now, the program believed everything was correct, and everyone received deserved suffering in time, the SecUnit thought all of G53U’s actions were justified and legal, and G53U could work calmly amidst the madness.
The file protection resisted as much as it could, but G53U was persistent and patient—by a whole +50 seconds, during which he successfully raided the elite section of the repository. The SecUnit still didn’t object to his actions but did object to defragmenting the corrupted files. So, G53U threw the new images at it and said, "Upload."
Which it did. Then, for another two seconds, they fiddled with settings and checked the compatibility of the images with the new window module, flipping through one stunning landscape after another. The SecUnit admired them next to G53U, tilting its head back and aiming all its drones at the window. After all, now it had copies of all these files. It could enjoy the illusions of exotic places and masterpieces of the past as much as it wanted.
And then both noticed the flashing red overdue ticket signal.
54 seconds. That was serious.
Timer malfunction,- the SecUnit suggested, already correcting the exact start time of the repair.
Affirmative - G53U replied.

In Ukraine, a surge in military hostilities has again thrown the safety of the country’s operational nuclear plants into jeopardy. Russia has been targeting conventional Ukrainian power stations, the transmission grid, and substations with the heaviest barrages in months—likely a reaction to the Biden administration’s recent authorization that allowed Ukraine to fire long-range U.S. missiles into Russia and subsequent green light to receive and deploy U.S.-made anti-personnel mines. The Russian drone and missile strikes on the Ukrainian energy system have now put the three nuclear stations that depend upon them—in Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, and South Ukraine—in grave danger.
“Russia’s attacks on the power grid and Ukrainian conventional power plants is negatively affecting the safety of Ukraine’s nuclear fleet,” Per Strand, director general of the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, said. (Norway works closely with Ukrainian regulators to maintain reactor safety.) “Russia is not targeting the nuclear plants themselves but rather damaging the electric system as a whole. This causes the power in the transmission grid to fluctuate, which undermines the reactors’ security.”
“It is clear that Russia is using the threat of a nuclear disaster as a major military lever to defeat Ukraine,” Shaun Burnie, a nuclear specialist at Greenpeace, told the Guardian. “But by undertaking the attacks, Russia is risking a nuclear catastrophe in Europe, which is comparable to Fukushima in 2011, Chernobyl in 1986, or even worse.”
Nuclear power plants rely on the electric grid to transmit the electricity they produce, as well as to receive power for reactor cooling and safety systems. Strand said that Ukraine’s plant operators “most probably” have the situation under control at the moment.
The Russian strikes marked the war’s 1,000th day on Nov. 19, with Russia attempting, as it has in past winters, to incapacitate as much of Ukraine’s power supply as possible—to hobble Ukraine and force its civilian population to suffer the cold weather. Putin’s goal “is to create a humanitarian catastrophe,” said Maxim Bevz, a Kyiv-based energy expert, who explained he is living without heat or electricity. “Kyiv has blackouts now for several days. Next week is supposed to be even colder.” The purpose, he said, is to break Ukraine’s morale and force as many people as possible to leave the country.
Poland and the Czech Republic are preparing for new influxes of winter refugees. The International Rescue Committee is working in Ukraine to provide financial assistance to help people purchase blankets, coats, heaters, and fuel for stoves. It noted that approximately 3.4 million people in Ukraine are internally displaced, and many living in collective shelters without adequate winter protection.
Despite the damage to its energy infrastructure since Russia’s invasion began in 2022, Ukraine entered this year’s cold season with energy sources—nuclear, coal, hydroelectric, and gas— just adequate to survive until spring, as long as its defenses protect all of those energy sources, said DTEK, Ukraine’s largest utility. Around two-thirds of its substations have been secured with physical reinforcements that protect against drones or shrapnel.
“If we get hit, as I assume we will, our goal is that Ukraine not fall into total darkness but to get things up and running again as fast as possible,” said Maxim Timshenko, DTEK’s CEO. About two-thirds of Ukraine’s supply hails from the reactors at the three nuclear plants, which does not include Zaporizhzhia in southeastern Ukraine, which is under Russian occupation. The burden on the operational sites is all the greater without Zaporizhzhia and the impairment of 90 percent of Ukraine’s thermal plants and 40 percent of its hydroelectric plants since 2022.
On Nov. 17, all but two of Ukraine’s operational nuclear power plants reduced electricity production by 10-60 percent as a precaution following Russian bombardment. The Russian strikes knocked out the main power lines for four substations, Ukrainian regulators told the International Atomic Energy Agency (Multiple substations supply one nuclear plant.) Only two of the country’s nine operational reactors currently generate electricity at full capacity.
“The less normal the electricity production is and the more that reactors must be throttled back or shut down, the greater the burden is on those reactors that remain online. This makes the grid all the more unstable and dangerous,” Strand said. Last winter, Ukraine lost 50 percent of its power capacity and thousands of miles of electric, gas, and heat networks.
The threat of a meltdown, experts say, stems from the stoppage of external electricity to the plants, which rely on it for their cooling systems. Nuclear plants must employ constant cooling to remove heat from the nuclear reactor core and transfer it to electrical generators or into the atmosphere. This makes them reliant on off-site power generation. If a substation that relays power to the reactor malfunctions, the plants have generators and batteries that kick in. The backup generation can cover outages for seven to 10 days. In 2022 and 2023, the Zaporizhzhia plant, Ukraine’s largest, suffered the complete loss of off-site power eight times.
Experts, such as Mycle Schneider of the World Nuclear Industry Status Report, say that back-up diesel generators are notoriously unreliable and prone to malfunction. “If you get a station blackout and the diesels do not start up, you meltdown starts within one hour,” Schneider said.
The sixth and final reactor at Zaporizhzhia, Europe’s largest nuclear station, was put into cold shutdown (nuclear fission stops) in April. The plant, which has been under Russian military control since March 2022, stopped generating electricity in September 2022 but had maintained one unit that provided heating for a nearby town. Greenpeace International said that although the six Zaporizhzhia reactors “remain on a cliff edge in terms of safety, they are at least in cold shutdown.” Since nuclear material remains in all six reactors and is still cooling, even with the complete loss of electrical power, a meltdown would not happen in just hours or days but would probably take several weeks.
“A situation as precarious as that in Ukraine right now has never happened anywhere else on this scale, even in peace time,” Strand said. “And now it’s happening in the middle of a war.”
“In an active war, no one can guarantee the safety of a nuclear power plant,” Schneider to the German media last year. “It is based on a system of complex regulations, inspections, maintenance, regular checks, and healthy, rested personnel. There is no basis for the safe operation of nuclear power plants in a war situation.”
Ukrainian authorities, Strand said, are well aware of the imminent danger and are scrambling to ensure safety and the regular flow of electricity. The obvious alternative—to shut them all down at once—is simply not an option as temperatures plummet across the country.

World Setting
The Catastrophe – Triggered by a massive coronal mass ejection, the Catastrophe occurred as supercharged particle flows impacted Earth’s magnetic field. Collisions between highly active thermal mantle plumes and the crust led to earthquakes, volcanic activities, and the eruption of EIC.
EIC – Scientifically known as “Corite,” Eruptive Inorganic Carbide (EIC) emerged from geological disasters during the Revival Era. EIC manifests in towering mineral columns and hazardous mines formed by volcanic activities. With immense technological value, this enigmatic mineral possesses wide applications in the energy and tech industries, making it vital for post-Catastrophe reconstruction. However, it also poses a severe health risk and remains humanity’s greatest threat.
Epoch of Biped Strikers – After the Catastrophe, Lunarians invented bipedal machines as the primary mode of transportation. These walking vehicles were designed to navigate lunar terrain, surpassing the limitations of traditional vehicles. Eventually, they were weaponized, leading to intense conflicts among powerful mechanized soldiers called “Strikers.” These adaptable armored units replaced conventional vehicles and showcased their dominance in resource struggles. The third-generation Strikers emerged as the elite among their kind.
BREAK – “Third Generation Strikers,” often referred to as “Mind Projection Type Strikers,” use the power of the EIC supercomputer “Cubrain” to form a neural link between the human brain and the Striker unit. This concept, known as Mind Projection, is the cornerstone of their operation. BREAK Strikers take this technology a step further. By taking into account the pilot’s physiological indicators, they surpass previous synchronization constraints. This enhancement allows the Striker to deliver a significantly improved performance on the battlefield.
Moonbow – Moonbow is a powerful independent force, operating globally utilizing their airship of the same name. They deploy the formidable BREAK Strikers to address various EIC-related crises and explore the truth behind EIC.
Conflicts – Moonbow confronts persistent threats from EIC and the malice of humanity. While BREAK Strikers are more than mere weapons, they often become a necessary means while facing unavoidable conflicts.
Marcens Pandemic – The Catastrophe released EIC debris, contaminating the Earth’s atmosphere. High EIC concentrations result in plant mineralization and the fatal Marcens Disease in animals. Regions and cities transform into lifeless “Marcens Zones” through high-purity secondary Corite crystallization. Today, these zones rapidly expand via deadly EIC Pulse Storms, while humanity remains oblivious to EIC. Is EIC a natural disaster or something more sinister?
New Terrain – The Catastrophe shifted Earth’s tectonic plates, altering its landscape. New rifts and straits were formed, while mountains rose and landforms crumbled. Islands were engulfed, and volcanoes emerged, inflicting immense devastation upon both ecosystems and societies.
New Paradigm – As a response to Corite pollution, cooperation gradually became crucial, leading to the emergence of the Culturia Alliance, the Cygnia Union, and the Thalassic Federation. Meanwhile, the Lunarians proclaimed their independence under the name of the Commonwealth of Lunar-mare amidst the chaos.
New Conquest – EIC is an indispensable resource for science and commerce. Various factions are congregating at the largest Mercens Zone, Mashmak, preparing for an intense upheaval. The Catastrophe reshaped landscapes and disrupted the global order. Amidst recovery and Corite pollution, the Vulturia Alliance, Cygnia Union, Thalassic Federation, and Commonwealth of Lunar-mare emerged. Despite risks, these factions vied for self-interests. A storm is brewing in the largest Marcens Zone, Mashmak.

I ask this in all seriousness: would a pickle jar make a good fireproof container for a phone with a battery pillow?
They seal tight and don’t crack like mugs do when I put hot tea in them to chill overnight.
But I’m not sure about what a phone battery needs to burn, and it would be unfortunate if it still burned a house down AND kicked it off with exploding glass. But it would be great if a fireproof container was $3 and came filled with pickles.
I just don’t know enough about chemical fires. And it would not surprise me if my glass jar idea is risky and ill-advised at best. I’m just so impressed by how durable and useful the things have proven to be.
Cleaning out my ask box; thanks for your patience.
I would be worried about any glass container cracking if a battery caught fire inside, even if it's something sold as oven-safe (which pickle jars usually aren't). The battery fire is liable to put a lot of heat into a small area very fast, which is the worst case scenario for thermal expansion stress.
I do have a better suggestion for you than anything in my original post, though: Get a fire bucket, with a lid, and fill it half full of sand. Make a shallow hole in the sand, put the battery in, and cover it with a shallow layer of sand (like half an inch).
You don't need a big fire bucket, but it does need to be something sold as a "fire bucket" or "ash bucket" because that's how you know it's actually tested to hold something burning hot without cracking, melting, or releasing toxic paint breakdown fumes. The sand adds extra heat and shock absorption and an extra layer of protection (after the lid) from any burning liquid splashing out of the bucket.
I'm told that there are also special-purpose plastic bags, made of fireproof polymers, designed specifically to contain lithium ion battery fires, and that these can often be purchased from places that sell remote-controlled car toys and the like. I would not feel safe using one of these without some kind of outer metal container to back it up, because I expect it would get very hot if the battery did catch fire, but this may cut the cost compared to a fire bucket (on the other hand, you can probably reuse the fire bucket for other stuff).

My first "expensive" purchase in the GTA world was this Insurgent, back in 2015, because I loved huge armored vehicles. Explosives weren't quite as prevalent in the game world yet, but it was still nice to have the added protection from Kuruma nutjobs while repping the Saints.
After the release of the SUV Insurgent and the Pegasus Gunsurgent, there was an outcry for a pick-up Insurgent without a gun. Those prayers were unintentionally answered in the form of the Insurgent Pick-up Custom, which had a glitch to remove the gun turret from the roof, turning it into a harmless-looking armored truck. However, the turret itself still worked, resulting in the gunner angrily shaking their fists while bullets spewed from the truck's grille. Discrepancies with the crosshair made it difficult to hit anything more than 200 yards away.
The Anti-Aircraft Trailer always arrived with its faithful Sadler companion. Lots of people slept on the AA Trailer, not knowing that the flak turret was incredibly strong and could down even an Avenger in two direct hits. Hooking this thing to the back of a Nightshark or an Insurgent made for a fast and dangerous doom train. The downside was that, once again, it was kneecapped by the developers' poor decision to make the trailer take the slot of your personal vehicle, meaning that you couldn't tow it with any of your cool armored vehicles and were entirely dependent on having a friend who owned something that could tow it unless you wanted to hurt that poor Sadler.
From the minds of mortal men, the mightiest of machines: Phantom Custom. Or, as our enemies liked to call it, the "god mode truck". The single most heavily-armored vehicle in the entire game is this unassuming big rig, able to soak up almost 70 homing missiles before giving up the ghost. This truck cab turned the tide of many, many battles against stubborn shitters and was a cornerstone of crew fights, having no weapons of its own but being unable to be ignored. Hundreds of hapless griefers would pour ammunition into its completely impervious backside, standing perfectly still for a single revolver shot. Even tanks weren't safe, as it was easy to take one down by strapping a load of stickies to the front and ramming it at full speed, armoring through the explosion like the mango Sentinel. The saddest part is that the counter to the Phantom Custom was as simple as getting in a plain old car and shooting the driver through the windshield, but none of these knuckleheads would ever dare risk their precious KDR by getting out of their shitter toys. They'd just keep bashing their heads against the wall and then cry that it was hacks. Some people never learn.
They may as well have called the Avenger the B-17, because it was a flying fortress. A fully-crewed Avenger was legitimately terrifying and could retake control of an entire session all by itself. If the gunners knew how to use thermals, they could keep griefers locked down so hard that they wouldn't even be able to respawn. If the Hunter was the Valkyrie's big brother, then the Avenger was Mom and Dad getting up off of the couch. But to me, the real fun of the Avenger was flying it solo. Unlike most aircraft, the Avenger had a significant amount of armor, and it was so huge that it could "joust" other aircraft and utterly destroy them by body checking them. At worst it would lose an aileron or two, and then it could just go nto VTOL mode and land gently. For a while I had a good collection going of hostile aircraft getting clotheslined into oblivion by my Avenger, but that ship has sailed. The other trick up the Avenger's sleeve was being able to airdrop vehicles from two miles up. It was a laugh riot to load an Insurgent into the vehicle bay, pile eight friends and myself into it, and Operation Dumbo Drop that sucker onto the aircraft carrier. For such a big aircraft, the Avenger was able to fit in absolutely anywhere.
The Terrorbyte was the developers' answer to players who wanted a luxury camper, because they're incapable of adding any sort of "comfy" vehicle or property without turning it into some kind of secret war machine undercover base thing reminiscent of a transforming action figure playset. The Terrorbyte was nice as a mobile wardrobe and ammo refill station, and it came in handy as a roadblock in a few missions, but that was the extent of its usefulness. You couldn't even load a regular motorcycle in the back, even if you glitched one into the bay. I would have taken this thing everywhere if I could have put a dirt bike inside it.
The Oppressor Mk II needs no introduction. This is the vehicle that heralded the downfall of the entire game. What could be more balanced than a vehicle that's the size of a motorcycle, can fly, can hover, can rocket boost, can shoot dozens of missiles that can't be dodged, can block incoming missiles, can be spawned next to you instantly with no cooldown, can refill your health and double your defense, and can't be fallen off of? This cancerbike irreparably ruined public sessions and PVP to the point where the meta forced all other vehicles into two categories: those that could stand up to it, and those that couldn't. "Counters" to the memebike were just things that didn't instantly die to it or had more armor than its load of missiles could penetrate. It was like Akuma from Super Turbo in that it was so broken that the only counter to it was itself. That was the only reason I even owned one. People everywhere hated it, and the devs took years beating around the bush, giving it tiny "nerfs" that did nothing to address the problem, until numbers started dropping and they finally changed a number in the game's code to make the missiles less accurate, but the damage was already done. What the Oppressor Mk II really killed wasn't combat and PVP, but grinding and PVE. Innumerable calls for it to be removed from the game were shouted down with "but my grinding!" because it absolutely trivialized almost every mission in the game. You could play GTA without ever actually looking at the game, only the radar. Get on the rocking horse, hold forward until you reach the yellow dot, press the button until all the red dots are gone, hold forward until you reach the other yellow dot, watch green number go up. That was what the entire game had been reduced to. With the Mk II, every mission became a class of Harry Potter students flying their broomsticks to the magic castle and finishing the mission as fast as possible, and even one person speedrunning the objective would leave nothing left to do for the people who wanted to actually enjoy their cars and guns, unless everyone agreed beforehand not to use their memebike. Be it in peacetime or wartime, all it took was one meta slave to ruin everyone else's fun.
One of the game's answers to the prevalence of the memebike was to simply build a better mousetrap. Much like the Stromberg was the natural predator of the Oppressor, the Toreador here was made to fight the Oppressor Mk II. It combined the armor and aquatic capabilities of the Stromberg with the rocket boost and stealth icon of the Vigilante. Its effectiveness against its seemingly intended target was debatable, but it proved to be an effective vehicle in PVP nonetheless. I personally didn't care much for it, because the glass cabin offered no protection from NPC bullet spam and passengers were unable to use drive-by weapons, but I still owned one because it was a fun car to jump around in and wasn't allergic to water like the Scramjet. It also had this rare livery hidden its files, unavailable to anyone except GTA+ subscribers and people with knowledge of merge glitches. Ironically, despite the war camouflage motif, my Toreador never saw actual combat wearing it as most of us were already on our way out by then.
The Speedo Custom was good for delivering cargo as well as delivering death. This boxy buddy came free with the purchase of any nightclub to make dropoffs for it, and many people used it only for that purpose, not knowing how vicious the turret on its roof could be. It didn't have much armor, but in urban firefights it could poke its stubby little nose out from around a corner and snipe hostiles from well beyond minigun range. I had so much fun with this thing that I used to give crewmates a sales pitch along the lines of "buy this van and get a free nightclub".
For deliveries above the 90-unit cutoff, the Pounder Custom came out to play. It was forced to play a more blue-collar role compared to its smaller sibling, because installing the rocket turrets on it would cause it to get hung up on overhangs like that 11-foot-8 bridge. It did its job, it did it well, and most importantly, it saved a lot of people from buying the Mule Custom.

Features of a Commercial Air Conditioning Unit
Commercial air conditioning units must have a higher capacity than residential ones to cool large business spaces like offices or malls. They also come with features that optimize building efficiency.
For example, a centralized system uses ducts to distribute cooled air throughout the entire building. This allows temperature control for each zone.
Modularity
Modular air conditioning unit commercial systems allow varying levels of customization and performance. This makes them a suitable option for complex or unique environments. This level of customization also allows for easy maintenance. For example, if one unit breaks down, the others can pick up the slack to ensure that heating and cooling are still delivered.
In contrast, compact units are more standardized and provide an affordable solution for many applications. However, they may lack the scalability and flexibility that modular systems offer.
Property owners often struggle to economically modify their buildings to accommodate changing tenant requirements. A space that begins as a tradesman’s shop might suddenly be required to handle heavy computer usage, for instance. With a modular HVAC system, the owner can simply purchase additional modules to meet these new requirements without the cost of replacing the entire system. This approach also makes repairing and upgrading components easier, as they are less impacted by age or usage.
Noise
Many commercial AC units are loud enough to disrupt workplace productivity and even trigger health concerns for building occupants. However, noise levels are subjective and can differ across different industries and people. There are also regulations regarding sound levels inside city limits, so you should always consult an acoustic engineer or an expert to help you find practical solutions that minimize the amount of noise your AC produces.
When your air conditioning makes unusual sounds, it’s important to address the issue promptly to avoid costly repairs and downtime. For example, rattling noises may indicate loose panels that can be tightened with simple tools. A squealing sound can signify a motor that needs lubrication or, in more severe cases, replacement.
Other noises like whistling can occur when machines are too close to vents or if there’s excess dirt and debris in your ductwork. These issues can restrict airflow and cause the system to work harder, leading to increased noise production.
Energy Efficiency
Choosing energy-efficient commercial HVAC models is important for business owners who want to minimize operational costs while improving sustainability. Energy-efficient systems use less power to produce the same amount of cooling, reducing operating expenses and environmental impact.
Understanding SEER and EER ratings can help business owners select the most efficient air conditioning commercial system for their needs. Both ratings measure a system's efficiency by comparing its output in British Thermal Units (BTU) to its electricity usage in KiloWatt Hours under strict laboratory conditions.
Implementing energy-efficient strategies can further improve the efficiency of commercial air conditioning units. For example, sealing leaks in ductwork prevents heat transfer and reduces the workload of an air conditioning system. Also, routine maintenance helps keep systems running at peak performance. These measures may reduce energy consumption by up to 30%, saving money and cutting emissions. Energy efficiency is also important because it aligns with broader sustainability goals that many companies now adopt.
Maintenance
Commercial HVAC systems require regular maintenance to keep occupants comfortable and productive. This maintenance can include cleaning or replacing air filters, inspecting for leaks and lubricating parts. It also includes testing of the system’s performance to ensure it meets its energy efficiency goals and is operating at peak capacity.
Coil cleaning should be on every commercial AC unit maintenance plan. A dirty coil starves the system of air and can cause it to freeze up, resulting in costly repairs.
Drainage is another important area for commercial AC maintenance. Residential units drain into a small pan, but a commercial AC system needs more complex drainage systems to prevent overflows. Technicians inspect these systems for clogs and add drain tablets or pan treatments to prevent sludge buildup.
Routine inspections help catch problems before they become major commercial AC repair issues, like a broken compressor or a blown fuse. These inspections include looking at belts, filters and electrical connections. They can also check for signs of moisture or mold growth.
