Wow! What a day of guide work. A+!! Winston guided me thru downtown, to a coffee shop, to and throughout a park, a large department store. A very busy and jCostco and Wal-Mart as well. Winston also tried on dog coats and got lots of attentions for random but very friendly customers. What is your trained ouppy assintant for (if it's not too personal)? Do you have sight impairment?

she wasn’t actually for me! during my last year of college, I was lucky enough to get to raise a guide dog-in-training, which is a little different from an actual, fully-qualified guide dog.

that’s her! when she was like eight or nine weeks, I think. I got her when she was seven weeks old, and I was tasked with the responsibility of teaching her how to be polite, well-mannered, and calm in public while trying to expose her to as many new situations as possible. puppy raisers are essentially foster families for future guide dogs, in that sense - they don’t do any actual guide dog training (eg stopping at curbs, guiding their person around obstacles in their path, intelligent disobedience, etc.), but they take care of as much basic dog training as possible. and I got to do all sorts of awesome stuff with her! (which is under a cut, because picture heavy)

she visited central park when I took her to the city to meet @godlessondheimite:

a lot more. it was definitely one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my life, and I miss her tremendously, but I’m proud of the dog I saw her grow into. I had her for just a little over a year, and she went back up to her guide dog school on nov. 1st. she started her formal training in the beginning of january, so if that goes well, she should be matched with a visually-impaired person hopefully in the next few months!
