Look. You can attach gdb to a running kernel in a VM and debug it properly. I am still going to just put kprintf calls in. Sorry.

Re-Learning C# Studies - Day #4
Tumblr media
Tuesday 16th May 2023
Today I continued my studies on Operators and Expressions and gave myself a small homework task to put my knowledge to the test - I made a mini console maths quiz game!
Tumblr media
The Maths Quiz
Tumblr media
The console quiz was pretty easy make and to play. I even learnt the 'Random' class in C# for generating random numbers so I am not entirely hard coding the values for the questions!
You can choose ranges to use, which I used from numbers between 0 - 30. Some of the harder questions involved bigger ranges and multiple operators in one question! It was quick and fun to make, I liked it!
Tumblr media
Here are the resources that I used:
GDB online Debugger and Compiler - LINK
Thanks for reading and happy coding! 🥰👍💗 [the previous study post]

My Wangan Maxi Tune Career Returns 2023 Edition [Timezone Arcade Trinoma] - Part 5 [third/final half] (Recorded: May 21st, 2023)
Hey, hey! It’s me! 😁 And welcome back for another installment of "My Wangan Maxi Tune Career"! I've returned in 2022, and now I'm gonna continue it, this 2023! Man, I've got ton of progress, on May 21st (Sunday) of that year! So, here's my "third/final half" of Part 5! 🚗🔧🏁
Before we continue, if you haven't seen my "first" & "second", then I'll provide these links down below. ↓😉
• My Wangan Maxi Tune Career Returns 2023 Edition [Timezone Arcade Trinoma] - Part 5 [first half] (Recorded: May 21st, 2023)
• My Wangan Maxi Tune Career Returns 2023 Edition [Timezone Arcade Trinoma] - Part 5 [second half] (Recorded: May 21st, 2023)
So, without further ado, let's get started:
4th to 13th phone screenshot(s):
• Now, my twins asked me, where that title came from? You know, Spot's new title "My mother is a designer"? Well, the answer is my today's "Navi Scratch-off" via the Wangan Navigator app! 🙂📱 And here are the items I've gotten before proceeding to the Wangan Terminal to claim. I've got my recorded video, so we'll get to that later. Also, these sweet stamps will be fitted on my blue 350Z tuned car! And if you want a closer look, then here. ↓ 😁💙🚘
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spot 🐶🏎️: Ah right, that explains it! And damn, dude! I wish, I want to get these cool stamps, too on our tuned Imprezas! 😁👍
Riya 🐰🏎️: Heck yeah! Our creator deserves these stamps, and hopefully we'll get ours, someday! 😃
Spot 🐶🏎️: We just have to drive hard & overtake these random opponents to level up our dress-up parts! 😃
Riya 🐰🏎️: And participate in the "Bingo Challenge" to unlock MORE limited edition items! 😊
Me 🇵🇭: Absolutely, Ri! 😊
Tumblr media Tumblr media
14th & 15th phone screenshot(s):
• Here's a little tutorial on, how to change your MAXI car name by using the "Name Change Ticket" via Wangan Navigator app? But first, Ri. Do you remember, when you decided to relinquish your GBR Impreza car to me because you want changed to the GDB-F Impreza car? → [CLICK ME!]
Riya 🐰🏎️: Well, yeah! I remembered, back in 2017, right? 🙂
Me 🇵🇭: Correct! Because it's time to change the name of that GBR Impreza car, and I officially owned that cool hatchback blue car!
Riya 🐰🏎️: Aww sweet! But, how do you do that? 🤔
Me 🇵🇭: I'm glad you asked! Here's how you change your MAXI car name using the "Name Change Ticket" via Wangan Navigator app? 🙂📝🚘
• First, open the "Wangan Navigator" app & then tap on the "Ticket Box". Then tap the "use" button & select the car you want to rename it. (I know, what car am I gonna change the name! *look at the upper*)
SIDE NOTE #1: be sure that you've owned a "Name Change Ticket" after checking in your miles, daily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
16th & 17th phone screenshot(s):
• Once selected, you're now typing in the new name of your car, like mine. I decided to change the name "RIYA★" to "★ETE★". 📝🚘
SIDE NOTE #2: Only "5 letters" to type in. Six or more letters won't count. Special letters are acceptable albeit limited, like → ★ or ◇.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
18th & 19th phone screenshot(s):
• Once it's done, you have to read the confirmation message before you decided to change the name of your car. Well for me, I tapped "OK" (twice) to proceed.
SIDE NOTE #3: As the message says, you can't changed the name again for 30 days.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
20th & 21st phone screenshot(s):
• And once it's done, you noticed that my GBR Impreza car is barred with the red bar. Meaning, the name of that car has changed! And look at that, I've used one "Name Change Ticket" on my "Ticket Box"! And yeah, it's official! I've finally owned the GBR Impreza car! You get the notes, Ri? 🙂✍️🗒️
Riya 🐰🏎️: Yup! And man, that was easy! 😃 Plus, you don't need to send that ticket the Terminal for changing the name! But, will it effect after that? 🤔
Me 🇵🇭: Well see in my recorded video. 😉
My recorded video [edited by Filmora 9]:
• Here it is, let's go to the Wangan Terminal to set things up, and I started with my new car, the Toyota GR Supra in gray metallic. 🇯🇵🚘😃 Mmm... I was expecting to be "Dark Blue" (or any kind of blue body color) 🚘🔵, but that's alright. At least, I've got the modern Supra car from their recent campaign (from May 11th to Jun 11th, 2023). 😊
• Now onto items from the "Navi Scrach-off" (from the Wangan Navi app). I'm selecting two new stamps & two titles, which are "I'm not sick" & "Old tires are a resource". Mmm... Is this title ("I'm not sick") related to the COVID pandemic? 🤔😷 Nevertheless, the rest of the titles will be decided for the Speesdter Twins' on their Imprezas. So, here are ff. titles:
SPOT★'s 🐶🏎️ titles:
• "My mother is a designer" (current) • "Getting carried away"
RIYA★'s 🐰🏎️ titles:
• "Dreaded Love Letter" • "Tandem Breathing"
Riya 🐰🏎️: Yeah, these titles are nice, but I'm stick with the current title. 👋😉
Spot 🐶🏎️: Good for you! Did you know, that I used to have a cool title called "Double-Edged Sword" in WMMT3DX+? 😁⚔️
Riya 🐰🏎️: Really? That would be awesome if only you have it. 😉
Spot 🐶🏎️: Yeah, if only... 😌
• Finally, let's check out the effects of changing the name & it is! The entire stats of my GRB Impreza remain intact. Also, I unlocked two WMMT OSTs: the Maxi Tune 1 & 2, and three WMMT3 installments (3, 3DX, and 3DX+). So, why not set the Maxi Tune 1 & 2 as my BGM race? Because they've got some of their great music if not many (in my opinion). And the rest, well, I decided to check my two cars, including the recent GR Supra.
Riya 🐰🏎️: Yeah, you're welcome for unlocking two OST installments! I enjoyed listening Wangan Maxi 1 & 2 soundtracks! 😉🎧🎶
Spot 🐶🏎️: Yeah, yeah! Mine too, mine too! 😊🎧🎶
Final Overall:
• Overall, I'm having a blast with my recent update! Not only I've finished the fully tuned 350Z (a.k.a. Fairlady Z Ver. S), but also getting a new body color, which is my favorite color 🥰🔵🚘, and the GR Supra on my Wangan garage list 😁🆕🚘, as part of their current campaign. Which, by the way, it starts on May 11th & will end on Jun 11th, 2023. So, for Wangan Maxi players, here's your second chance to claim it by playing Maxi Tune 6RR arcade 20 times. I suggest that you should finish the "Story Mode" to obtain it 📖🚗, like me. Speaking of which, I only have 20 episodes left before I get the random WMMT OST background. Then another 100 episodes of "Story Mode" to get another random OST, so you get the idea. As for today's "Ghost Battle" nothing new on the table, but we appreciate 9 new items from the Wangan Navi app. Although, I've forgotten to equip my new stamps, but, that's gonna be another day. So, twins, anything else to say before I end this post?
Spot 🐶🏎️: Hope I could attempt the same thing as you do! You know, finishing the "Story Mode" to achieve the 840HP?! 📖🚘🔧😁
Riya 🐰🏎️: Yeah, me too! I want our Imprezas maxed out to 840HP! I mean, we would like to earn more parts from attending "Ghost Battle", so, it'll be better if we finish the "Story Mode". 📖🚘🔧😁
Me 🇵🇭: Mmmm... Yeah, good call! 😊👍
Spot 🐶🏎️ & Riya 🐰🏎️: Alright, let's go! 😁🚘🚘
Riya 🐰🏎️: Also, if you get another GR Supra, can you pretty please reserve ME? 😊🙏
Me 🇵🇭: Someday, Ri. Someday.😊
Riya 🐰🏎️: Hehe! Absolutely! 😁
Well, that’s all for now. More Wangan Maxi experience, coming up soon.
If you haven’t seen my 2019 Wangan Maxi Tune 6 & Wangan Navigator app (on the alternate blog), then I’ll provide some links down below. ↓😉

Quote: The Hacker's Manifesto
A comment on Hacker News led me to 0xf.at, from there to hackthissite.org, and eventually to the challenges at overthewire.org. All three sites give you some kind of system (usually a website, in the case of the first two, or a Linux machine, in the case of the third) and challenge you to break in. A lot of fun and a good way to learn things like Linux, web security, forensics, and so on.
(The web challenges posed no obstacles -- mostly trying to figure out some '90s era Javascript or running SQL injection on a PHP script. Some of OTW's challenges, on the other hand, involved things like using gdb to identify the system calls in a compiled C program and finding the memory locations that contained the relevant password string.
[if the above is gobbledygook to you, clicking through to one of the first two sites above and trying to tackle one of the beginner challenges might be a good way to learn the basics of the incomprehensible machines that surround us. This should help you get started and Google can help if you get stuck.])
All in all, a good way to learn new things -- the original commenter said that he found "hackits" to be the most effective way to keep a class of rowdy teenagers focused on learning the fundamentals of CS and programming.
Anyway... while playing with the above I found myself reading some of the back issues of Phrack magazine, including the classic Hacker's Manifesto from 1986 (!) (context). Text below:
= = =
Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers.  "Teenager Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal," "Hacker Arrested after Bank Tampering"…
        Damn kids.  They're all alike.
But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's technobrain, ever take a look behind the eyes of the hacker?  Did you ever wonder what made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded him?
        I am a hacker, enter my world…
Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most of the other kids, this crap they teach us bores me…
        Damn underachievers.  They're all alike.
I'm in junior high or high school.  I've listened to teachers explain for the fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction.  I understand it.  "No, Ms. Smith, I didn't show my work.  I did it in my head…"
Damn kid.  Probably copied it.  They're all alike.
I made a discovery today.  I found a computer.  Wait a second, this is cool.  It does what I want it to.  If it makes a mistake, it's because I screwed it up.  Not because it doesn't like me…
                Or feels threatened by me…
                Or thinks I'm a smart ass…
Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here…
Damn kid.  All he does is play games.  They're all alike.
And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board is found.
"This is it... this is where I belong…"
I know everyone here... even if I've never met them, never talked to them, may never hear from them again... I know you all…
Damn kid.  Tying up the phone line again.  They're all alike...
You bet your ass we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby food at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let slip through were pre-chewed and tasteless.  We've been dominated by sadists, or ignored by the apathetic.  The few that had something to teach found us willing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in the desert.
This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the beauty of the baud.  We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals.  We explore... and you call us criminals.  We seek after knowledge... and you call us criminals.  We exist without skin color, without nationality, without religious bias... and you call us criminals.
You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.
Yes, I am a criminal.  My crime is that of curiosity.  My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like.
My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.
I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto.  You may stop this individual, but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike.
                               +++The Mentor+++
= = =
Curious, no? I think a friend and I read this in a .txt file when we were both about 13 (I was almost never allowed to use the internet at home ... he was already all over torrents and such things in the early '00s, and I used to hang out at his house where we could play with the computer unsupervised. Oh yep, I've just remembered, he was the person in our school who discovered The Anarchist Cookbook as well.)
Looking back on this: I can still relate to the mentality and to the overall vibe of the above, though not necessarily with the political ideas. I don't think the political ideas are fundamental, though. I think the essence of the mindset (and vibe) is this:
I made a discovery today.  I found a computer.  Wait a second, this is cool.  It does what I want it to.  If it makes a mistake, it's because I screwed it up.  Not because it doesn't like me…                 Or feels threatened by me…                 Or thinks I'm a smart ass…                 Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here…
Which suggests that the political beliefs and ideology are simply expressions of frustrated active minds trying to navigate the (largely) conformist, bureaucratic system they grew up in. Wanting to deal directly with physical reality, versus being forced to deal with an artificial structure created by the whims of others.
Speculation: there are some sociological, anthropological and cultural-historical* questions regarding the connections between the hacker culture of the '70s, '80s and early '90s, the early web culture of the late '90s and early '00s (typified by things like Napster, Mozilla, culture jamming and the like), and the culture of the second startup boom, beginning in the late '00s and continuing (in some form) until now.
*(Really {cultural,intellectual,ideological}-historical.)
In the case of the latter, I believe there was a fundamental cultural clash between entities like YCombinator, which (originally!) had fairly deep roots in the rebellious, piratical, outsider culture of the early internet -- and the more careerist, establishment, insider culture of the types of people who began to dominate the world of technology from the early '10s.
The latter group brought capital, connections, and masterful perception-management abilities. By the mid '10s, with their overall ascendancy achieved likely sometime between 2014 and 2016, they appeared to have suppressed and/or sidelined the rebellious types and their fundamentally unregulated* culture. *(See here: http://phrack.org/issues/69/16.html -- "Unregulated knowledge is pornography". That was the slogan of wargames.unix.se, an early hacking wargames community, and could be the slogan of various emerging groups I see in the world today.)
Or perhaps not. Maybe it was simply structural and economic issues that led to the cultural shifts in the startup world during the last decade.
(By economic issues I don't primarily mean things like the debate over wealth inequality, or government monetary policy -- though those things had a huge influence -- but more the prevalence of different funding models and corporate forms, and their effect on the agents who operate within those structures. The tension between bootstrapping and VC-funding is just the tip of the iceberg. Control of capital seems to lead to control of culture, and vice versa. There's a very deep -- and quite terrifying -- question to be investigated regarding which of the two had the most influence, but that is best left for another time. Still: whoever controls the capital controls the technology. Whoever controls the technology controls the world. The stakes are high!) At any rate, the world of technology appears to be a witnessing a nascent movement -- small, but growing -- back towards a more rebellious, free-spirited, system-breaking culture. This will be interesting to watch.

“Illusion”
I like to think about how Chelovek is the apprentice of Svet, “God of Light” and how Chelovek doesnt know what they are “God” of just yet. The only thing Chelo knows for sure is that they happen to be in the very common category of “Illusion Deities”
The Archetype of their “power” is like a mirror to Svet- who is obviously compared to the Sun. Chelovek is the moon- harmless, no light of it’s own, but appears to.

Displaced Dogs
So due to the hurricane, about 12 dogs are being removed from Houston raisers at the end of this week. 5 dogs are coming to my club. Summer and I are taking two of those, which will make for a hectic few weeks I'm sure. The other dogs are going to Austin and Dallas. The amount of time they'll be with other clubs depends on how long it takes for Houston to recover and get things repaired/back to normal. My leader played an instrumental role in getting all this planned, I'm so happy to call her my best friend!

I have decided to make a list of my computer programming nega-achievements because lord knows they outweigh the achievements.
Discovered Windows XP/Vista has a secret red screen of death triggered only when something goes wrong so early the kernel hasn’t loaded far enough to throw a bluescreen.
it’s almost always a hardware problem
the “normal” case where you encounter this is faulty RAM
in this case I’d put two VMs to sleep and swapped their “hardware” so they basically woke up screaming in a bad frankenstein horror movie with their heads sewn onto each other’s bodies
so, fair
Crashed every debugger I’ve ever used. Every. Debugger. gdb. pdb. MS Visual Studio. Totalview. Allinea DDT. windbg. I’ve crashed windbg.
it turns out when it calls KiRemoveAllBreakpoints() you should let it remove all breakpoints
Chased down a phantom heap corruption error because the debugger’s default heap size was bigger than the regular compiler’s and the overwrite therefore didn’t happen if I tried to debug it
that one’s more on Visual Studio though
Thrown an error in gcc, i.e. the compiler, at 3 AM, which was my sign to stop for the night.
fuckin’ Fortran linker libraries man
Tried to install a CPU temperature monitoring widget on a Linux box and had it commit suicide by package manager
I hit “ok” without reading the full list of what it was trying to install and it tried to update the entire window manager but then stopped and tried to undo the whole thing and uninstalled so much stuff it deleted the wifi drivers and could no longer connect to the internet to try to reinstall anything to fix itself
Presented serious evidence that different Windows service packs appeared to be linking against the future i.e. each loading the library list of the next service pack
turns out it was dynamic load calls becoming statics in the next update but listen that was a weird couple of hours
Some people say the definition of “experience” is just “you know a lot of ways to screw something up,” and by that metric I’m some kind of eighty-year-old bearded guru who lives in a shack and is owed favors by several governments.

Last Monday of the Week 2024-02-19
Surrounded by objects
Listening: Been listening to the new Synphaera label station on Somafm at work, fell into the album Hyperion Gate from Exosphere. Here's the titular song:
Big swoopy ambient synthy sounds.
Reading: Small things, between books at the moment. Catching up on ACOUP's series on the Roman Legion and how it interacts with the Greek Phalanx, which is fun. So far it's mostly setting up the context of the Greek Phalanx in contrast to other Phalanxes and how it embeds in a larger military strategy. It gives some of that really vertigo-inducing insight into ancient humans, like how the soldiers are arranged with the youngest at the front partially because they are meant to wear light armour and scatter under a charge to let the more experienced soldiers handle close in fighting, and partly so that older soldiers in the rear can keep up morale. Here's Part 1a of the four part series which is currently on the third article and second part.
Watching: Nothing really.
Playing: More Dark Souls, you'll see that I finally cut together and posted another video and it's like 40 minutes long, because I make mistakes.
youtube
Also, some Inscryption Kaycee's Mod. I had a hankering for deck-builder and I hadn't actually played much of Kaycee's Mod after I finished Inscryption.
Making: Went to an embroidery workshop with a friend, which was below my skill level but it was nice to meet some other textiles idiots, a lot of the other people there had other textile arts they knew well and were there to learn embroidery as well, one woman did some neat wool needlepoint. I did talk some shop with the instructor who is better than me at a lot of things so it was still worth it.
Also I think I'm almost ready to start the full-run prints for the 3D printed storage server, I've been dialling in the last few dimensions and now I think it's just a matter of getting it all set for success. Most of the parts are reasonably small but the main body is a huge 400 gram affair that's currently slated to take over 24 hours to print so I am probably sacrificing my bedroom or entrance hall to the printer. for a day or so.
Tools and Equipment: GDB has a feature called "checkpoints" which allows you to reset a program to a past state, which is really handy if you can't reverse-step the program. It allows you to deteministically re-run sections over and over again, albeit with side-effects. I'm tracking some memory-fuckery at work and it's super useful.

what OS should I use ? what device should I use ? what IDE/editor/tooling should I use ? what programming language should I use ? what git frontend should I use ?
these are (mostly*) the wrong questions !
ask questions like
what do I need from a development setup ?
what works well for me about my current setup and why ?
what doesn't work for me and why ?
can I test and debug my application effectively ?
would the benefits of learning a new tool/OS/editor/language outweigh the time investment ?
am I getting meaningful work done ?
for reference:
I use what I know (neovim(+plugins) inside abduco, neogit + raw git CLI, C or Python mostly, GCC GDB etc. for C, void linux on my desktop). I plan to make a similar setup on my laptop for in bed and travel.
but you could stick me in VSCode on windows and I would manage much the same, if a fraction slower. as long as it works for you and your needs it really doesn't matter.
what matters is removing barriers to you writing code, the rest is arguing over what colour to paint the bikeshed.
*if you code and debug/test on the same machine, then it makes sense for that machine to be your (main) target platform, and if you work within an organisation there may be certain requirements due to the way the project is managed.
Do you code on a pc or laptop? Also what do you think about coding on a MacBook? I have one but some people in my class say I should get something else
Hiya 💗
I code both on computer and laptop! I have my own personal laptop that I use 90% of the time and I have a home desktop setup in my living room which I code on it the rest of the time. I use my laptop more because it's more accessible - I can code in my bed...
I have zero experience in using a MacBook so I wouldn't personally know the difference. At my workplace we use windows for everything.
Hope this helps! 🥰💗

Dec 24 2021 - Engine Complete
I finally did it.  I completed the rewrite from version 3 to version 4 of my game engine.  It took me a couple of years.  Yikes.  But, it's done.
I can start sharing more about my progress.  Here's a proof of life video that shows placeholder art, some lighting, room, and collision system working.  Later in the video I turn on some of the debug shapes.  There's not much in the way of gameplay here.  At this stage, other than the world and room system, I have not worked on gameplay or player skills.  It's a blank canvas.
Was it worth it?  Not sure.  The entire process from zero skills to now took me almost 7 years on and off.  I wrote 4 game engines, a custom scripting language (unused) and a set of tools in 7 years...  I certainly am very competent now in all sorts of C++ programming styles and gamedev.  But it turned out to be a gigantic undertaking and burden for someone who's only slightly perfectionist such as myself.  Hard to say if I would have been able to make good games in the same time had I chosen an off the shelf engine but this engine quest has certainly prevented me from actually producing my clumsily announced demo 3 years ago...  Version 3 and its custom scripting language was a promising engine 2 years ago but there's no contest with version 4.  My future life as a programmer/designer is greatly enhanced by the sheer power and flexibility of version 4. So, from that perspective, I have no regrets.  I can tell there will not be a need for a version 5.  Let's look at it.
About the engine.  It follows the live-coding paradigm I described in previous posts.  The game and renderer are separate DLLs.  The game is launched by a platform specific executable.  All memory is managed from the platform launcher.  Reloading DLLs does not modify that memory unless I choose to and that allows me to near live code the game without shutting it down.  The C++ style I use is very bare bones, procedural, does not rely on compiler heavy C++ features.  All code is brought under single compilation units and the resulting compilation times are near 1s for each module.  This architecture makes programming systems or gameplay a breeze.  I would often be surprised how I could to write complete systems in a day instead of a few days as I used to.  The near instant compilation keeps me in the flow and productive.
About the tools.  I have two kinds, standalone and in-engine.   The standalone tools run inside their own process and monitor my creative apps.  When I edit registered files, the tools package them into an engine ready binaries.  The engine monitors those and live-reloads them as the game runs.  This allows me to draw art or modify levels from dedicated apps and see instant changes in game.  The in-engine tools range from C++ compiler replacement facilities such as meta programming, introspection, custom preprocessor based code generation to visual debug tools, input replay for QA, etc.  These turned out to be more interesting to me.  Due to the coding style and nature of version 4, I can very easily write stuff and see results live.  For instance, just yesterday I was reluctantly looking into fixing a bug in my static light system and I had been dragging my feet there because it looked like it would take a while to nail down.  Rather than starting up gdb and do some old school code investigation (very impractical there because that room had 100s of lights), I wrote an immediate mode style bounding box sprites selected by mouse hovering system to help me identify what light exactly was playing up.  Setting those up took me less than half hour.  I could retrieve several troublesome light ids very quickly just by exploring the world with the game camera and my mouse.  Those ids set me down the right track, and I nailed down the bug quickly.  I had more fun writing the quick tool than using the traditional debugger.  This system would be reusable for other game objects in the future for which I'll want quick introspection.
On performance.  This simpler style of C++ coding makes it easier to run -O3 type compiler based optimizations.  Just by switching that on I gain a 4x CPU speed advantage in most scenarios.  I have also pushed my renderer to do much more sampling and color work than version 3 used to.  I am knowingly using way too many FBOs, essentially having a mini-photoshop like layer system.  The idea being that as I design the game, the facilities will be there should I need them with the intention of bundling things tighter once I am set on the look I'll be going for.  This kind of unduly complicated pipeline made me aware of OpenGL driver overheads and I am now very curious about AZDO style interfaces such as Vulkan but that's a rabbit hole I am not prepared to go down for some time.
Where to go next.  I would contemplate splitting logic from rendering into separate threads to speed up the QA replay facility.  Also, there's more work needed on my audio system, as I would like to have more mixing facility and logic to accomplish some dynamic music effects.
That was a long, technical post.  I am about to open a new chapter on my gamedev journey.  One where I'll be mostly focused on art, design and storytelling, the stuff that brought me here in the first place.  I actually spent the last 2 weeks just doodling until I worked up enough motivation to fix those pesky static lights ;)  I am very happy to be largely done with the engine, even though those things have a life of their own and there'll be no doubt new systems or tools I'll just feel like writing down the track.  I am very excited to be finally turning to those design and art notebooks and try to make Two for Dinner come to light.
I really appreciate your support and interest.  Here, you can have a quick look at the tip of a 7 year iceberg with this placeholder art video.  Enjoy!
Merry Christmas everyone and all the best to you all!
Claude
