Happy Birthday Unity . . . Happy 10th birthday to Unity, the absolute love of my life. Unity has been my dutiful guide dog for 8 years now and I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be nearly as happy or prosperous without her. Today we took her on a shopping spree at @petsathomeuk where she picked a selection of toys and dog treats. We then took her for a long free run to her favourite park where she played chase with lots of other dogs. Now she is enjoying playing with her many new toys and taking a long rest. Being 10 now Unity is due to retire around the early part of next year. She will then become a family pet dog and enjoy her older years as a carefree pooch of leisure. I don’t think any amount of toys, treats or hugs can ever express the extent of my gratitude towards her or the charity @guidedogsuk who gave her to me. Unity you have changed my life beyond all measure, you make me happy every single day I’m with you. I love you more than words can ever say. . . . To mark Unity’s birthday I am asking anyone who can to please donate to Guide Dogs UK. Guide Dogs as a charity receives no government funding and like so many charities Covid has had an impact on the charity’s ability to operate. A guide dog costs £50,000 to train and they are worth every penny. Anything you could give would help to train a wonderful dog like Unity who will one day become not just someone’s guide dog, but their most trusted friend. . . . Hey guys! Tomorrow is the day I start my 100,000 steps for Guide Dogs. For the next week I’ll be walking every day to raise money for Guide Dogs. This next week is going to kill me, but I’m determined to do it. I’ll be updating my @justgiving page and vlogging it as my week progresses. Anything you can donate to support me and to help raise more money for Guide Dogs would be so very appreciated. Every donation helps make a different no matter how small. Unity came into my life when my independence was non existent. My mental health was at an all time low. She gave me my life back and showed me what it truly meant to be happy asking for very little in return. I’m eternally grateful to everyone who gives to this amazing charity. Guide dogs receives no government funding and can only train guide dogs through the generosity of the public and through fundraising. It could be as little as £2 that you would spend on a morning coffee. That £2 will help to train a guide dog who will one day enrich somebodies life beyond measure. When a dog enters your life, they fill all the empty gaps you had inside your heart. The reason you cannot ever truly be sad in their presence is because they filled all the places that sadness would have inhabited. They make your life whole, they make a house a home and they give you purpose even when you can’t find it yourself. My wild Rose is truly the life and soul of the party. She is the Jester of our household and without a doubt the most exuberant pooch I’ve ever known. But for all of her nutty ways and weird habits. She is a truly sweet and caring soul and I’ll always be grateful that she came into my life when she did. Being an adult sometimes can feel very demanding and often a little daunting at times. But Rosie always makes me look on the bright side of life which is something that copious amounts of therapy over the years never truly did. Funny how these older photos of Winston makes me super happy and somewhat sad at the same time. I guess that’s a good thing. It’s a good thing it makes me happy because that means I am super connected to this amazing guide dog. And it makes me sad that he isn’t with me now. Winston receiving some much deserved nursing from @starrfish56 after a very unexpected outcome at an unknown animal clinic. It wasn’t anyone’s fault just a very unfortunate mistake.
