Gruppo synth-rock artistico formatosi a Liverpool, nel Regno Unito, nel 1979 e composto da Gary Daly (voce), Eddie Lundon (chitarra), Brian McNeill (tastiere), Gazza Johnson (basso) e Kevin Wilkinson (batteria). Primi anni e influenze Gary Daly (nato il 5 maggio 1962, Kirkby, Knowsley, Merseyside)[3] ed Eddie Lundon (nato il 9 giugno 1962, Kirkby, Knowsley, Merseyside)[4] sono cresciuti in famiglie della classe operaia a Kirkby e si sono incontrati alla scuola cattolica romana St Kevin's School for Boys.[5][6] Condividendo un affetto per Steely Dan, David Bowie e Brian Eno,[5] hanno iniziato a suonare insieme nella loro adolescenza con Lundon alla chitarra e Daly al basso.[6] Hanno poi suonato con vari gruppi post-punk di Knowsley tra cui diverse formazioni della band Glass Torpedoes prima che Daly e Lundon continuassero per conto proprio.[5] Intorno al 1980 ottennero un sintetizzatore e una drum machine e iniziarono a scrivere canzoni;[7] i paesaggi sonori ambientali di Eno influenzarono la traiettoria musicale del gruppo, così come gruppi synth-pop come Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) e Depeche Mode.[8][9] Inizialmente, Daly e Lundon si divisero i compiti di sintetizzatore negli album del gruppo, ma Daly iniziò a fare la parte del leone delle parti di sintetizzatore/tastiera mentre la popolarità del gruppo continuava a crescere.

All'inizio del 1984, il singolo "Wishful Thinking" raggiunse il numero 9 nella UK Singles Chart, diventando il loro primo e unico singolo di successo nella top 10 del Regno Unito.[2][20] La canzone fu anche una hit nella top 10 in Irlanda, una hit nella top 20 in diversi paesi europei e raggiunse il numero uno nella classifica radiofonica svedese Poporama.[26] Nel marzo 1984, il singolo successivo "Hanna Hanna" raggiunse il numero 44 nella UK Singles Chart.[19]

L'album stesso fu un successo nella top 20 nel Regno Unito, raggiungendo anche la top 40 in diversi altri paesi (tra cui Spagna, Australia, Canada, ecc.), e i China Crisis trascorsero il 1984 e il 1985 realizzando la loro più grande corsa in classifica. Après avoir écouté en boucle les deux EPs précédents de la rappeuse, j'avais des hautes attentes pour cet album, et j'ai pas été déçu! Toutes les lines de Sloan Lucas sont fortes, prenez des notes. ✍️ La toune Je pense qu'on va perdre m'a aidé à passer au travers des derniers mois, alors que tout acte de militantisme ou de travail sur soi semble faire fuckall, ça fait du bien d'avoir ce genre de mantra.

14. Original Gros Bonnet - Le Vide

Non, vous n'hallucinez pas, c'est la deuxième apparition d'un rectangle blanc sur cette liste! Nettement plus à son avantage ici dans son habitat bleu monochrome naturel.

13. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Flight b741

(rock psychédélique, blues)

Imaginez ça: Vous marchez dans la rue, vous venez de finir de travailler, et vous entendez un riff de guitare festif au dessus de vous. Vous levez la tête et vous apercevez 8 petit cochons volant à toute vitesse à bord d'une grange-avion. Ça vous donne les larmes aux yeux.

12. Amyl and the Sniffers - Cartoon Darkness

(punk, garage)

Amyl and the Sniffers réussit à donner suite à son excellent album Comfort to Me en livrant ici un projet tout aussi catchy, énergique et plein de personnalité. Toutefois, malgré un effort valable de la part du gars en arrière sur la photo, la pochette n'arrive pas tout à fait au niveau du cover précédent (qui était réalisé par le talentueux Bráulio Amado).

Ce band s'ajoute aux nombreux projets que je découvre, à chaque année, simplement grâce à leur cover intriguant. Les drôles de poses que font les membres, leur logo qui est complètement absurde, vraiment, j'aurais dû classer cet album là plus haut. 🤨

10. Tierra Whack - WORLD WIDE WHACK

La niche ultra joueuse et enfantine que Tierra Whack s'est creusé se manifeste en un magnifique Pierrot, ici, pour accompagner ses paroles explicitement suicidaires.

9. P'tit Belliveau - P'tit Belliveau

(country, hyperpop, rock)

À mon avis l'un des albums les plus cool de l'année. Mais bon, c'est pas surprenant venant de ma part, parce que le projet emprunte pas mal à un duo que j'adore, 100 gecs, et ce autant au niveaux des thèmes que de la sonorité. C'est un album chaotique, vraiment l'fun d'un bout à l'autre, sur lequel P'tit Belliveau a l'air de s'amuser au max tout en se permettant d'être sensible par moments (L'église de St. Bernard). Toutefois, la toune Comfy avec Fouki est insupportale. J'peux pas croire que c'est la plus écoutée de l'album sur Apple Music, voyons câlisse... 😪

8. Mannequin Pussy - I Got Heaven

(hardcore punk, grunge)

Ce que j'aime de ce cover là c'est qu'il semble exister sur la frontière weird entre le rendu 3D et la vraie vie. (Malgré que ce soit bel et bien une vraie photo!) L'album occupe, lui aussi, un entre-espace, il arrive à naviguer dans le mince couloir où coule la beauté au milieu de la colère.

Encore une fois, un band que j'ai découvert grâce à leur magnifique pochette. L'artiste Kevin Martel a fait une maudite belle job, ça donne le goût d'acheter l'album en vinyle, mais genre un esti de gros vinyle de 15-16 pieds de large.

J'ai beaucoup de respect pour des concepts photographiques weird poussés jusqu'au bout, et celui là est juste génial. En plus, l'album sonne exactement comme le cover!

4. Conifère - L'Imp​ô​t du Sang

Je suis tellement prévisible, of course que j'allais adorer une pochette d'album black metal qui reprend les codes classique du genre mais avec une twist full colorée. En plus, c'est de l'excellent black metal aux riffs punk rock, en français svp, directement du Québec! Et puisque c'est toujours une de mes préoccupations quand il est question de black metal: Conifère semble 100% legit et n'a rien à voir avec les tabarnak de nazis qui polluent la scène.

Sans aucun doute, la pochette la plus iconique de l'année. 💚 On peut penser ce que veut de l’esthétique volontairement cheapette low effort, mais en bout de ligne, ça fait son effet et Charli s'est littéralement approprié une teinte de vert pour l'année au complet.

VOICI MA POCHETTE PRÉFÉRÉE DE 2024! 🏆 Si on regarde les années précédentes, j'ai visiblement un type. 😫 Autant j'adore les trucs ultra éclectiques, surchargés et maximalistes, difficile d'argumenter contre la force du combo: police bold + photo inquiétante + palette rouge et noir.

Malheureusement, notre première position est teintée d'une controverse... Quelques mois après la sortie du EP, le duo allemand a inexplicablement décidé de CHANGER le cover du projet (??!!). J'ai tenté de trouvé la raison, en vain. 😥 La nouvelle pochette est correcte, j'imagine, mais la brebis est indétrônable! 🐑

Due to the 1999 timestamp, Pokémania is at its peak. Pedro 100% plays Pokémon and their favorite 'mon is Jolteon. Vosim keeps a Gameboy in his desk and plays Pokemon and Tetris in his downtime. His favorite 'mon is Alakazam.

Several characters have pets. Dee has Snowball of course. Bert also has his two rats, Cheezit and T-Rex. Vosim has a huge tank with 4 or 5 goldfish. Pedro has a pet frog and them and Voder both own a St. Bernard named Sparko. Sam (who is blind! never mentioned) has a service dog (undecided, maybe a retriever) named Zoltar. Dandy has a cockatiel named Daisy. There's a stray cat that keeps showing up on the stairwell outside Otto's apartment window because he fed them once. His cat now. Cider is allergic to cats and dogs.

Cider is the weirdo that gets up at 5 AM for a run before work everyday, eats really healthy (is basically pescatarian), keeps a very thorough day planner and owns a PDA. Nobody can take him seriously.

He's also still a furry. His fursona is a mouse named Melvin. He has been to Confurence.

Terminal is the mail carrier that is so happy to have the office on his route. Everyone is friends with him in some regard and he's a huge fruit. Should this be modern day, he would be an Instagram girlie.

Rotten works at a music store down the street from the town campus. Bert swings by pretty much every day after class. They met after Bert stopped in one day trying to buy some normie pop punk music and Rotten basically grabbed the tapes out of his hands and threw them in the trash before dragging him to the real punk section. He also slipped him a tape of his own demo album he'd been working on. Bert was instantly smitten.

Happy Birthday Robert Bernard Andrew “Bobby” Gillespie who was born June 22nd 1962 in Glasgow.

Most people would be happy being famous for being in one iconic band, but like our last Birthday Boy Jimmy Somerville, Bobby has been in two great Scottish groups, he was drummer for The Jesus and Mary Chain in the mid-1980s before going on to be a founding member of the alternative rock band, Primal Scream.

Born and raised in the south side district of Mount Florida in Glasgow, he attended Kings Park Secondary School. His father is Bob Gillespie was a union rep and aspiring politician. Before joining The Jesus and Mary Chain Bobby roadied for Clare Grogan’s Altered Images, later joining ex “Images” man Gerard “Caesar” McInulty in the indie pop band The Wake who had a wee bit success, notably playing support on tour with New Order

By 1982 he had already formed Primal Scream and splitting his time between the two groups before leaving The Jesus and Mary Chain to devote his time to the former in 1986. Although well known in the 80’s around the Scottish Indie scene it wasn’t until Screamadelica was released in 1991 that the band had their breakthrough, since then they have went on to be one of the most successful Scottish groups.

In October 2021, Gillespie published his memoir Tenement Kid a memoir relating his childhood in 1960s Springburn Glasgow, the discovering of punk, then his realization as an artist, until the release of Screamadelica.

Gillespie married stylist Katy England at St. Margaret's Church, Betley on 29 July 2006. They have two children together, Wolf and Lux (born in 2004.

In April this year Bobby joined Eric Cantona on stage to sing song ex-footballer penned for Palestine. Writing on the official Primal Scream Instagram, Gillespie wrote: “Last night I was honoured to sing with my friend @ericcantona on a song he has written about Palestine titled ‘Give Us a Ticket’.

The song, Loaded is my favourite by Primal Scream.

I imagine that Hugo’s got a Not Great relationship with his parents, so for the period of Bandit’s mentorship he’s a father figure to him. I think they’d stay friends once the mentorship ends, even tough Hugo’s like ten years Bandit’s junior.

Its a good setup for explaining Queerness and discrimination to the kids(both of whom i HC as queer anyways, so a queer role model is a good thing for them.) and how Found Family is just as good as Blood Family.

Blues is WHIPPED for Hugo, but Bandit still goes Dad Mode on him at first, bc i think its sweet.

Bluey thinks it is Very Cool that she and Blues have such similar names.

Hugo is about the same height as Chilli, and Blues is Very Tall. The girls love when he gives them shoulder rides for that very reason.

Birds of Downtown Kelowna

top-left: American Widgeon

These are the main birds that occupy the shores of Lake Okanagan (kɬúsx̌nítkʷ) in downtown Kelowna. They are fairly territorial, and seem to have their favourite spots. Mallard land is just in front of the lake monster statue, at the intersection of Bernard Ave and Abbott St. The occasional widgeon joins the group, they seem to get along just fine. Directly north and south of there, the coots are abundant. They travel along, bobbing their heads up and down as they do, such inchworms in water. The mergansers tend to stick to the boardwalk near Tugboat Beach.

Disclaimer: If you can't tell by my simplistic vocabulary, I am not a bird expert. Until yesterday, I referred to the mergansers as the 'punk ducks' and the coots as 'little round guys'. However, with the knowledge I now hold, I do now feel a slight intellectual superiority. Yesterday, a group of three folks were taking a stroll along the snowy boardwalk. "There are so! many ducks", one of them noticed. As my riding partner and I passed them on our bicycles, we proudly and loudly exclaimed: "Coots are not ducks!" and rolled off into the distance.

Three questions for you!

1. It's time for the annual team building retreat! You have to pick which group you will be sent with to compete again the other! Do you side with the Wild Geese or the Iscariots?

2. You've won a week's vacation to the Bahamas, all expenses paid! But there's one problem...who is going to look after your beloved poochies while you're gone!?

The only people you can ask is either a starving Alucard or The Major. Who would you chose and why?

3. You've gone back in time to the night of your prom dance. The entire cast of Hellsing is there, along with ...everyone else.

Who amongst the cast is on your dance card and who is on your hit list?

I'm gonna start by saying that I'm dying for these questions and love them to bits. TYSM!! I'm gonna get right into it.

1. Fun fact about me! I went to an all girl catholic school for high school, so I've already been on retreats with a group of Catholics (and I'm well familiar with Catholic guilt, oh boy) so I'm gonna have to say the Wild Geese. They're probably really rowdy, but a corporate retreat probably means NOT a warzone and (if Hellsing sponsored) somewhere either nice in Britain or a country still under Britain's thumb. Sounds like it could be a good vacation.

(On that note I wrote some Hellsing headcanons ages ago about going to LeMans for the famous endurance race and because Pip and probably a bunch of the Wild Geese are French, they'd be familiar with it if not love going themselves. I've been before, loved it, and kinda follow endurance racing already, so I would love to do that as a retreat.)

2. Before I pick a babysitter I'm going to give you a full disclosure: I love big dogs. Grew up with goldens, a St. Bernard, and now my folks have a Newfoundland (who is a big baby that looks like a bear). So I would also have big dogs, probably Newfs or something (if only I'd be in a place to have a wolfdog) if I lived somewhere cold enough to be tolerable to them.

Now that said, I would honestly pick the Major. Alucard may or may not have eaten dogs and if he's hungry I would not be risking that. Automatic disqualification. But I would also daresay the Major probably likes dogs and might look at the Captain as a bit of a big dog himself. So if I were in the position to be able to ask: please take my dogs and don't let them witness your war crimes, sir. (Man let's trade for the week: you take my dogs and I take yours, if you know what I mean-- give me the Captain in swim trunks tanning on a beach. Or like, even better rent a whole catamaran and sail out to sea alone for like a week. A lot can happen in a week).

3. Prom was a funny night. First all-nighter I ever pulled in my life; I remember driving/flying home at 5AM in an overpowered car and feeling very free when the sun rose. I didn't actually spend much time dancing though because I went with friends-- had an all girl's school and knew no guys from the other private schools in the area. I think we had a brother school, never really got involved with them though.

That said, I would've danced with at least Integra, no questions asked. Just as friends. Would've probably avoided Zorin like the plague. And I am an almost criminally shy individual so I would've been pining hard across the room for the Captain only to get punked into dancing with him by a group of my friends. I would've never recovered. Didn't grow into IRL courage until many years later, lol, and I'm still a bit of a coward online. I am like, 3 hairs away from doing a Mill college AU for shits and giggles. But I'm gonna finish the December fic first. I may or may not have cheated and started drafting.

Dragon Fruit 

Being a dragon slayer is certainly a lonely and dangerous job, but someone has to do it, and Shouta Aizawa is that someone. He is a member of the Aizawa clan, after all. The job was supposed to be routine, just another dragon to kill to protect a nearby village, but the slayer's life changes forever when he meets Hizashi Yamada, a bard cursed to turn into a dragon whenever the sun rises. Really, there's only one glaring issue: Aizawa can't stand bards.

Hizashi doesn't deserve this curse - at least he thinks he doesn't. How's he supposed to live out a normal life of playing music and seducing women when he has horns and a tail? And that's only during the night! Nevertheless, he's survived with this curse for three years now, but his time's running out. Mating season is fast approaching and if he isn't cured by spring, he'll be completely consumed by the curse. His only hope is Shouta Aizawa, the same man who has promised to destroy him should they fail. Can the two really work together and find the cure when they can't even get along, or is Hizashi doomed to succumb to the dragon's curse?

He did not anticipate Gon’s incredible ability to talk to anyone, including his strange and stoic neighbor with the creepy quiet kid. He could have done with out the crazy clown and the gang drama but, hey, anything for family. (Plus that neighbor is cute when he’s not contemplating murderous revenge.)
