So, the picture is shit but this is Trundle, my Hapalopus formosus, giving me some real good evidence that she would benefit from a heat source. That black beside her? That's the stove that we were just cooking lunch on. The air temp near her viv is warm but far from hot, and she has herself pressed against the acrylic nearest the stove. In the couple days she's emerged from her burrow, this is the second time I've caught her doing just this; it is not a behavior she displays when the stove is off. She's got plenty of room to go to the cooler side of her viv, too.

My smallest baby, Greg. I’ve not seen them since getting them as they choose to remain inside their hide, behind their elaborate dirt curtains and dirt mounds.

I FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO SHARE A PICTURE OF THE REAL MINECRAFT STEVE. I also wanna talk about them since I don't get to talk about my tarantulas very often!
So there is no surprising here is a trigger warning for the arachnophobia gang.
There they are. Minecraft Steve is a Hapolopus sp Columbia, commonly known as the Pumpkin Patch Tarantula. Right now, Steve is a sling (spiderling/baby spider) who is slowly growing before my eyes! I even managed to unearth a part of one of their molts from the tube!
These are the most recent pictures I have of them, since I have moved their tube terrarium into their bigger home. This home will be temporary until they outgrow it, but that will be some time as they are about the size of my thumbnail(maybe a bit bigger!)
Below is a picture of their first burrow outside of the tube!! Great job, little friend!! 💎 ⛏️🕷️ Minecraft Steve has also started webbing a bit outside of the tube, so I am gonna leave it in there a while longer until I find a nice, lightweight tank decoration for them. Maybe minecraft minis?
I refer to my spiderling as them mainly because IDK what sex they are yet. I won't be able to identify that until they leave a decent sized/in tact molt for me to inspect. Even then it will still take me a while to find out since I am not adept at identifying spider parts yet LOL
And here are more baby pics because they have grown a lot since I first got them!
Likewise, they are hard to see due to being TINY AF, but it is adorable to me watching them grow and express themselves
And for a VICIOUS ATTACK on a HUMANELY pre-killed cricket. Scroll fast if you are squeamish of tiny things eating slightly larger things.
Absolutely carnage. Great job little guy. I may just feed you pre-killed prey forever or until you show me otherwise. Since Minecraft Steve is so small, this will be the norm until they get a bit larger. They have shown the hunter instinct though, and I hear this species is fun to feed. I'm very excited to watch them grow.
My Pumpkin Patch (Hapolopus sp. Columbia) finally got a name...
INTRODUCING
Everyone meet Minecraft Steve, the terrestrial tarantula. They love to dig looping tunnels, and sneaking up on prey. I cannot wait to see how they build up their substrate when I rehouse them.
I will share pictures later when they are a bit bigger.

So real talk...
I didn't anticipate getting THIS attached to my little bug buddies. Like. I knew I would like having them.
I would fucking KILL for this tiny little mantis and this eensy weensy spider. I talk to them. I check up on them and give them a "good morning" every morning. Both of them look at me when I speak to them. Bracken has this adorable little habit of waving his pedipalps or one of his little paws at me (and yes! Spiders have paws). I don't handle either of them but I wish I could pet them (and I may feel more comfortable handling them when they're both bigger, they're just so tiny right now).
I fucking love these little guys. I want more of them. I adore them. Bug hyperfixation is back in full swing.
#personal#bugblr#like okay I KNOW I want a tarantula someday#honestly I've wanted one since I was a kid#and the pumpkin patch is a dwarf variety and is small and has relatively easy care#obviously I'm going to wait on that for a bit but like#also tarantulas are a multi year commitment

They grow up so fast...
(Sling vs nine months later)
(Image description: two photos of the same pumpkin patch dwarf tarantula, nine months apart. In the first image, the spider is on a piece of moss and is seen next to a single index fingertip and is roughly the same size as it. Her abdomen is very large compared to her head in the proportions of a baby tarantula. In the second image, the spider is climbing the plastic wall of her enclosure and the same hand is behind her for scale. She is now over half the length of the palm, and has grown into her adult proportions. End of image description.)
#baby: sprout#tarantulas#spiders#pumpkin patch dwarf tarantula#hapalopus sp columbia#every time she climbs the walls i'm like BABY GIRL. U ARE NOT AN ARBOREAL!!!!! STOP IT!#but i'm also like oh fuck yeah this gives me a chance to get an accurate size on u stay still#she's prob wandering rn 'cause she's hungry#i just got back from 2 weeks vacation and i feed them all tomorrow#STILL no sexable molt btw i still dont know if i have a 2-3 yr friend or an 8-10 yr friend

State of the pet bugs (most of them anyway)
Maple making shiny eyes for more crickets bc I have only given her a couple small ones this week.
My two sensitive babies. Jumpers with light colored heads look like they're gonna cry with those little shiny eyes. The nameless A. purpurea escaped last night and went on a very tense two minute adventure before I managed to get to it enough to get a capture cup near for it to walk into.
My C. versicolor has been REALLY webbing up its enclosure this week and is spending a lot more time out of the hide. I feel a little bad that after its next molt, I'll be relocating it to an adult sized enclosure.
My cryptids, the moss mantis and new giant shield mantis.
My eternally furious babies, my desert scorpion and Autumn, my pumpkin patch tarantula. Her cheap ass Amazon enclosure is stuck partly open and I'm so glad it closed enough to keep her in but this replacement tank needs to get here FASTER....
#spider#spiders#bugs#scorpion#mantis#mantids#tarantulas#bugblr#pets#i have a handful more but they're hiding rn

found a really scary ai generated Spirit Animal website with very upsetting bugs. please admire a selection
yeah man thats a scorpion. good job.
aside from the images also i love the idea of someone looking intentionally for arizona bark scorpion spirit animal information. if this is your guide you may enjoy hiding under bark. forever
rest under the cut for long post reasons. theres a lot of insane ones in there
here are some more. i saved the best one for last if ur impatient just scroll to the bottom
everythings wrong. the legs tapering off into nowhere. the single scary beady eye. the?? face??
this one makes me feel bad. i dont like it. it looks like her head was scooped off her body. why does she have a mane like a horse. what is up with the ass eyeballs. i really dont like this one i feel gross
and this guy which is not what a chiton looks like at all but is actually really cute.
another funny thing abt this site is i think because of the recent boom in jumping spider popularity every time this ai generates a spider it looks like a jumping spider...kind of.
great work everybody. especially a fan of "sea spider" just chilling in the ocean i guess and "pumpkin patch tarantula" and her very tiny pumpkins.
in this case the ai seems to have freaked out and thought, what can i do to make an appealing spider? big bright eyes? as many as i can?? all over??
ok this next one is the worst one. so egregiously bad. i cannot imagine anyone ever thinking this is a real animal. it's an article for the long-winged kite spider. here is a picture of what she actually looks like. just so you can soothe ur eyes from all these scary fake bugs. shes plump and pointy and stylish.
ok ready? heres the article version.
what the fuck is that.

Hello Tumblr. I come from the land of twitter. I will be almost exclusively posting spider content. My blog is called Spicerack Spiders because most of my tarantulas are named after spices (some are just regular food)
Please enjoy Debbie Hairy, the breeder sold me her because she kept eating males and I related to that a lot. Debbie Hairy is not a spice or a food. But I could not change the name understandably.
My tarantulas are all tagged with their names if you have a favorite you wanna search for.
A chalcodes: #debbie hairy
B boehmei: #cayenne
B hamorii: #paprika
(RIP) A seemanni: #sunflower
GBB: #basil

Pumpkin patch: #cinnamon
A geniculata: #peppercorn
