I generally wait until I am ready to post the whole piece, and all chapters/sections are ready. Then I try to post one a day until they are all up. Or just say screw it and post up the whole thing. For Jezelf Leren Kennen, the longest thing I've done at 12 chapters and 75,123 words, I ran it through many edit runs, and then posted a chapter a day until the whole monster was up. Thuiskomst is 3 chapters, but they're all the same night, and it felt weird to split them so I just published them all in one go. I am super fixated on completionism, though, so there's that.
For reading, I will start reading fics that are unfinished, but I *usually* wait until things are either completed, or have more than one chapter up. It depends on the author, the piece, and where I am at in terms of wanting to read a full thing all at once, or know I'll be happy with a snippet.
hey fic writers, if you're writing a multichapter and posting as you go (as opposed to having the whole thing finished and/or in editing before you start posting)
if you're not a writer, you can choose what you'd prefer to have writers do as you read. if you don't read/post WIPs, here is a picture of a frog for your time in reading all this. his name is kevin.
please reblog for sample size and so everyone can see kevin thanks

I feel like I should say since there's been a recent uptick in a lot of communities I'm in/see stuff from a lot of white people pretending to be Asian, but you are not welcome here if you are in anyway stealing from Asian cultures for clout or the aesthetics of it
This includes if you're white and you give your self inserts Asian names, I truly do not care if your f/o is from an anime, you should not be using an Asian name under any circumstances. I hate that whenever I see someone using an Asian name online, I feel like I have to start searching their account to see if they're actually Asian or just a white person who likes the aesthetic of it bcs far too many white people will use Asian names here just bcs it sounds cool, with no regard for the actual cultural meaning behind it. Meanwhile actual Asian people will be mocked for their names, or treated like their names are too hard to learn to pronounce, or discriminated against based on their names
Asian cultures are not a fun little costume for people to dress up with. They aren't just a nice aesthetic, they aren't just a thing you can borrow from bcs you think it sounds cool
#my posts#selfship community#anti asian racism#like it's definitely a perpetual problem of white people not seeming to realize asian names are like#a thing that are tied to culture and identity#but it's gotten crazy lately with people pretending to be asian online for clout#just in the past like 3 weeks of things i've seen#we had the white woman pretending to be a japanese woman on comic twitter#the white woman who pretended to be korean to get a 'ownvoices' book published#(who btw. named herself kim chi. you cannot make this shit up)#and then the white guy pretending to be japanese to try to justify his hate of the new assassin's creed game using stuff around yasuke#like it's so draining. i hate how much this is a never ending problem#i hate how casually white people will use asian names#like worstie. i am a korean woman. but i am whitepassing and mixed so i never use korean names for my self inserts#bcs i have the privilege of looking white and people generally only knowing i'm asian if i say it#it feels inappropriate to me for me to name my self inserts a korean name#bcs that would then mean they experience the world in a different way than i do#even being whitepassing bcs of the way people treat korean (and other asian) names#if you are white you have no fucking right to asian names#idgaf if your f/o's an anime character. stay away from asian names bcs they are not yours to dress up in#vent a little bit sorry team#i've been dealing with white people doing this shit and being assholes to me about it for well over a year now. it's exhausting

“What art does is to coax us away from the mechanical and toward the miraculous. The so-called uselessness of art is a clue to its transforming power. Art is not part of the machine. Art asks us to think differently, see differently, hear differently, and ultimately to act differently, which is why art has moral force.”
— Jeanette Winterson (Winterson, 2006)

SELF PUBLISHED AND SMALL PRESS AUTHORS: CHECK YOUR AMAZON PAGES
Recently I found out that my book was just gone. Completely wiped from Amazon. My author page said I never published anything. I got word from my publisher that this was a glitch with Amazon and they were working on fixing it. That was three days ago, and my book is not back up.
According to my publisher, small presses (between 200 to 1000 books) randomly had several titles “dropped” from Amazon.
My worry is that this may have also affected self published books that are only sold through Amazon. Please go check and make sure your work is still up. Even if just to make sure.

Hellsing 2002 calendar illustration.
Ein wunderliche und erschröckliche Hystori von einem großen Wüttrich genant Dracole wayda Der do so ganz unkristenliche marrter hat angelegt die mensche, als mit spissen als auch die leut zu Tod geslyffen
A wondrous and frightening story about a great berserk called Dracula the voivode who inflicted such unchristian tortures such as with stakes and also dragged people to death
#hellsing#alucard#kouta hirano#translation was found in a comment by u/lazyfoxheart on r/Kurrent#fun fact this is the highest quality version of this image that exists online#i know because i've been looking forever for a version that's clear enough to actually read what hirano wrote under '1443'#but there weren't any so i had to take matters into my own hands#the real image on the back of the guidebook is only 2 inches tall so i had to take this with my smartphone and will my hands not to shake#anyway i'm pretty sure it's supposed to say Eğrigöz (the location vlad was imprisoned) so yeah. thank you hirano very cool#if i might rant for a sec it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure that out because i didn't have the guidebook at first#and in the images i could find online that part was just a blur that looked suspiciously like a person's signature and i was like. who tf#i was thinking matthias corvinus since he issued some political propaganda against vlad iirc but it didn't match his signature on wikipedia#then i thought it might be vlad II dracul's since he probably had to sign an agreement to send his sons over as hostages at some point#but that didnt seem right either so i kept skimming vlad's wiki page#and then i was like goddammit...hirano.....you just misspelled Eğrigöz didn't you.. ....#i maybe should've made a separate post dedicated to this instead of writing a novel in the tags but eh#the hellsing brainrot runs deep#also- i put it in the source link at the bottom of the post but the german inscription is copied off a real woodcut of vlad from 1491#except instead of depicting him as an adult hirano drew him as a child which gives the inscription a very different feel imo#the one final thing that interests me about this is the fact that hirano published this calendar in 2002#which is REALLY early in the series. like this was before volume 5 came out??#i have no idea why he decided to do a massive spoiler drop in a random piece of japan-only merch#sandwiched between a drawing of alucard as john travolta from saturday night fever and integra as a fish no less#it makes me really curious to know what the fan response to this was back then. like did people even know who this was#maybe im just an idiot and everyone back then was like 'ah yes its alucard as a 12 year old. how very informative'

the book trend that needs to be left in the dust for the new year is greek mythology retellings. i am so sick and tired of "retellings" of greek (or roman, but mainly greek) mythology from authors that clearly have a very surface level pop cultural understanding of the myth(s) they're adapting and the culture(s) they're depicting. especially the many that market themselves as "feminist retellings" where the "feminism" is basically just "men bad sometimes", and especially when they're "feminist retellings" that take some of the few mythological women who get happy endings and take it away from them for the sake of saying "men bad sometimes". it's all so shallow and they exploded this year and i'm sick of it.
#i wish so fucking much to read one (1) singular actually good feminist retelling of greek mythology#but they're always so shallow both in their messaging and their understanding of ancient greek culture and religion#i speak#anti booktok#sort of anyway?#greek mythology#bc i can't make a single post tangentially about myth without bitching about medusa:#so many people in publishing clearly got everything they learned about medusa from popular online depictions#and especially the books that are specifically about medusa blending greek and roman mythology despite them having very distinct elements

To make up for the fact that I didn’t do anything for them for Christmas, here’s another fake shoujo magazine chapter cover :]
pose ref ↓
HAHA ITS FROM ITAKISS!!!! Naoki and kotoko are nothing like the blorbs but I thought this pose worked for that scene (it’s apart of a much large page split into two images, but I decided to crop it cause the rest of it doesn’t matter tbh)
#‘but Emily it’s too early for Christmas?’ shut up the hallmark/w channel here in Canada has Christmas in July going on rn so it’s fine#/j it is too early for Christmas I’m just being silly#I’m aware of the fact the Japanese I put on here is terrible I’m not very good#while I know some words and have certain hiragana characters memorized (looking at you よ(yo))#my Japanese is still garbage and I rely on shitty online translators and the Japanese keyboards I have on my phone and now ipad#thought I’d add it this time around to make it feel EVEN MORE like it’s a shoujo being published in a monthly magazine in the 80s and 90s#also yeah I’m gonna post these covers out of order if I make more (keeps me from losing interest in completing something)#also also later on ill share what the test says as I’m too lazy to do it rn#anyways I’m gonna go read the blue castle now as I started rereading it recently and my phone need charging#stranger things#nancy wheeler#jonathan byers#jancy

the problem with many self-published indie authors i that in order to get any audience and any traction at all, they have to be on social media A Lot. And people who are on social media A Lot have weird things happen to their brains. And a lot of them get super goddamn annoying and I end up not wanting to read their books because they're too annoying on social media.
#this is how I feel about renthony and thebibliosphere#they're too online in an annoying way#catch-22. sorry#however derinthepescatarian is very online in the way that makes me want to read everything they write#so. it evens out?#there are also traditionally published authors that are Too Online in a super annoying way too. btw. this is not UNIQUE to selfpub#Al*xandra R*wland my nemesis. for the love of God stop Posting

Bruv people have been saying being any flavor of queer would be made illegal and have you sent to a camp since trump won in 2016. There’s a lot of horrific human rights violations and fucked laws it’s not an easy existence but they’re not going to make concentration camps for gay people in the USA people are fear mongering in a way that wouldn’t even be helpful if it had an ounce of truth to it like what do you expect people in red states to do when you tell them they’re going to be split and quartered by the government if trump wins
#I remember seeing PUBLISHED ARTICLES about how people needed to make plans to leave the US before trump took office#when I was 17.#what’s crazy is I feel like this is a conversation I have more often irl than online
