Animage June 2024 Issue ft. Soma Satoru Interview (translation below)
Publication: May 10, 2024 (between episodes 10-11)
The True Face of a Procurer
Suddenly coming and going before the Boonboomgers and procuring what they need from out of nowhere. A mysterious man with a soft yet elusive appearance. That's the procurer, Genba Bureki.
"What brings me joy is supporting and witnessing the progress of people who are serious about tackling something."
Genba had been involved with the Boonboomgers as a procurer after repeatedly turning down countless offers from Taiya Hando. Taiya said, "We're gonna continue to crank up. I wonder if you'll be able to keep up," and Genba was blown away by how he saw them team up to fight and overcome their challenges. Understanding that he isn't strong as he is now, he makes the decision to join the Boonboomgers.
Just like Taiya, who dreams of winning the BBG (Big Bang Grand Prix), a car race held throughout the universe, each member of the Boonboomgers has their own goals and objectives. Genba also said that when he joined, he'd be able to do "what he wanted to do" as a Boonboomger. He also said, "I'm not sure how serious I am when it comes to myself." For Genba, who wants to "do what he wants to do," will the moment come where he gets serious? To begin with, what is it he "wants to do"? Genba's actions are still shrouded in mystery, and we can't take our eyes off of him!
-Genba's character development will make you think about his background-
"Genba Bureki, who had been supporting the Boonboomgers as a procurer, finally changed to BoonOrange in episode 7."
Soma: When I lined up with everyone else and said "Boonboom Change!," I finally felt that I had joined the team and had become a Boonboomger. It used to feel like as soon as I appeared, my time was over, so when I picked up the Boonboom Booster and Changed, I thought, "I'm a Boonboomger!"
"Your transformation pose is also impressive, with your left leg raised to use your knee to push the button."
Soma: The first thing I was told was to push the button with my knee. I consulted with a bunch of people, including BoonOrange's Suit Actor Ono Yukimasa-kun, about how to make it look cool and sharp, and conversely, how to make it look mature and relaxed, and we ended up with the pose I have now.
"As the number of episodes increase, the pose will become alot more polished."
Soma: That's right. I'd like to compare the Change in episode 7 with the Change in the final episode. In the end, I might be able to lift my leg up really high (laughs).
"(laughs). Genba is often mysterious, but is there anything that's important to you when playing the role?"
Soma: I'm conscious of creating a character that'll make the viewers think, "What kind of person is this person?" To be honest, I don't know everything about Genba either. I'm trying to include a mysterious element that'll make people want to imagine what this person is thinking as they watch.
"Speaking of, Soma-san, what kind of past do you think Genba has?"
Soma: At first, Genba didn't join the Boonboomgers, right? I feel like there's some meaning to that too. Also, in episode 6, when he muttered "Madrex…..," in my mind I felt that he might have a connection to Madrex and the other Hashiryans. For example, I'm thinking that there must've been some event in the past that made him lose the desire to make friends, such as the loss of a friend due to the Hashiryans.
"Since joining the Boonboomgers, you've had more scenes with members other than Taiya Hando, what do you keep in mind when interacting with those members?"
Soma: I think it's important to bring out the different flavors or colors of each character. I'm hoping to bring out the other's characters, like Mira’s naivety, and Jou’s hot bloodedness. Especially with Chasshiro, I'm much more conscious since we're both very cool and have easily understandable positions.
"We think the exchange between Genba and Chasshiro regarding Taiya in episode 9 showed the difference between the two."
Soma: That's for sure. Even when we were performing together, I thought to myself, "This is how Chasshiro's supposed to be."
"Soma-san, are there any other members besides Genba that you are interested in?"
Soma: I like the straightforwardness of Jou, it's impressive because it's something that Genba lacks. We haven't had that many interactions in the story yet, so I'm looking forward to seeing how we'll be involved in the future.
-Episode 10's action supported by the staff-
"In episode 10, many scenes were depicted of you and Mira as a duo working together."
Soma: This was the first time where I was heavily involved with a member other than Taiya, and it was also the first episode where I was able to do some solid action untransformed.
"Another major point is the fact that the Director was Watanabe Jun-san, who usually works as an Action Director."
Soma: Right, I thought there'd be alot of action since it's Jun-san, but there was more than I expected (laughs). For my role as Genba, I have to show composure even when fighting, but I myself was fumbling around trying to figure out how to move, so it was difficult to avoid not being myself.
"Assistant Producer Yoshikawa Fumiki, who happened to be there said, "I didn't know that kid could move to such an extent" which became a hot topic."
Soma: Really?! I might become overconfident (laughs).
"Was all the action in episode 10 done by Soma-kun?"
Soma: I asked Ono-kun to stand in for some parts, but I did the whirlwind kick and the actions with the suitcase. Ono-kun has been practicing Chinese martial arts since he was a child, and all of his movements are beautiful and cool. In episode 10, I played the role while learning alot from Ono-kun, such as, "It'll look cooler this way." After all, I can't lose to Jou.
"The most mobile of the Boonboomgers is Jou, played by Saito Ryu-san."
Soma: That's what I think. He works out alot (laughs). I'd be happy if I get the chance to do some more untransformed action in future episodes. Since they have me play it cool after the transformation, I also want to move more easily, so I want to train for that. I want to challenge myself and grow in action throughout this year.
"We're looking forward to seeing more action scenes in the future! Finally, please tell us about some future highlights."
Soma: I think we're probably at the point where there'll be some rumors about "Engine Sentai Go-Onger" appearing or not (laughs), but I hope you'll keep high expectations for that. The most recent episode 11, which was also directed by Jun-san, is an episode where you can see everyone's different from usual Boonboom Changes. Personally, I had alot of fun with it through trial and error, and everyone did a cool Change, so please make sure you pay attention to that! _
Q: What's your favorite anime/manga? I've played soccer for a long time, so I've seen alot of soccer anime and manga. I especially enjoyed "Captain Tsubasa," which I watched when I was in elementary school. And then there are works which I think everyone has seen before like "ONE PIECE," which I also like. (-Soma)
Q: How do you unwind in your private time? It's futsal. Kicking a ball is fun, and I like that I can forget about things like work. It's not a reaction to the exercise, but I also like to eat whatever I want after futsal (laughs). Also saunas! Just recently, all the male members went to one. (-Soma)
Q: What's something you'd like Genba to procure for you? I wonder what it'd be……something from the lottery? (laughs). To be realistic, I'd want him to procure a smart phone for me since my camera lens broke and I'd like to get a new one. However, asking Genba to do it might be abit risky, as I'm afraid he'll charge me alot of money for it (laughs). (-Soma) _
Genba's Words By looking back on them, we can get closer to his true feelings……maybe?
"Seems like you're having trouble……" (Ep. 2 + others) This is a common phrase often said by Genba. With this phrase, he appears out of nowhere to accept requests from Taiya and the others, or to hand over items he's procured. Sometimes, like in episode 7, it ends in failure, with the Boonboomgers overcoming their situation before the items were handed over.
"Can you deliver the Boonboomgers?" (Ep. 4) With ISA trying to take control of the Boonboomgers, during the discussion between Taiya and the others, the Hashiryans appear in the city. On the scene, Genba asks Taiya to make a delivery: the Boonboomgers to people who need help. This little pretentious phrasing may also be a characteristic of Genba.
"It's me. I'm gonna accelerate you guys." (Ep. 7) Genba's reply to Taiya's question, "Procurer. What'd you bring us today?" With Taiya's invitation, "You'd be closest to us and get to sit in the best seat in the house to witness the moment we crank up," Genba takes control of the "wheel" known as Boonboomger and changes into BoonOrange for the first time.
"Deliverer, it's surprisingly interesting." (Ep. 10) Genba becomes interested in the work of a deliverer that Taiya's so passionate about. Together with Mira, who he met by chance, he delivers the energy source in a case to the research lab……by making the Hashiryans think that way in his successful decoy mission to lure them out. Genba has discovered the fun of being a deliverer, so keep an eye out on his future actions!

The Situations of Bames Jond - Human Activist
Intro, panning shot, exterior, mid 21st century Human city Silent music, hip-hop tune over opening credits, give sense of nostalgia (Kpop or EDM?) Establishing shots of office building, then of a ICE vehicle of "muscle car" variety (will have to build a prop and CGI that), people walking around the interior (remember to get ONLY Human extras this time) Cut to BAMES JOND lighting a herb stick (prop) and angrily folding up a retro iPad.
BAMES JOND: "Curse management! These regulations won't keep the streets safe from the troublemakers. I have to take matters of importance into my own two hands,
Again..."
Cut to dramatic montage of Bames Jond's previous incidents. (hold each new shot for at least 2 seconds and lower the exposure, last premiere was a health and safety disaster with the Ker'hrah audiences) Title card: BAMES JOND 2: SELECTIVE JUSTICE SCENE 1 BAMES JOND is talking over a phone, the slim black rectangle variety, while walking around a corner of a lower income population street, and encounters TWO HUMANS in non descriptive purple attire (robes?) using compressed air bottles that shoot paint at a wall (CGI department is gonna be busy with this one, huh)
BAMES JOND: "I'll call you back later, I have an urgent situation on my hands!"
BAMES JOND approaches the TWO HUMANS and folds his hands over his chest, speaks sternly but cautiously
BAMES JOND: "Are you two artists? Did you procure a permit from the municipal government for this visual depiction you are undertaking?"
PERSON 1: "What permit? This is a free society where we can express our grievances in the public domain."
PERSON 2: "Yeah! Who are you to issue such implied suggestion that we are not complying with certain rules that do not even pertain to this situation, huh?!"
The TWO HUMANS exchange smiling glances and do a "high five" (Does anyone remember what that is? Our Human consultant is on parental leave for two more months, but we need these scenes shot quickly. -Do several improvisational takes utilizing their limbs, one has to feel right)
BAMES JOND: "I'm sorry to say that that is not how this works. This structure is legally under the jurisdiction of the local government, and I am an employee of said government. Now show me a permit or your public artist license, or things are going to have to turn unpleasant."
BAMES JOND narrows his sight at the TWO HUMANS, who are now becoming nervous and gain a stutter in their speech.
PERSON 1: "W-we would, but, uh, the thing is um..."
PERSON 2: "I-it got eaten by my pet moose, y-yeah. I am from Florida, so such things happen."
PERSON 1: "M-my license is still valid, b-but I just forgot to get a new one, what with the economy and all."
Cut to close up of BAMES JOND contemplating, insert flashbacks to news articles about Florida Man and various Prime Presidents talking about The Economy.
BAMES JOND: "Well alright, you two appear to be amicable young adults. Let me print you a map to the government building that issues new licenses and handles permits for public artistic endeavors. Remember to bring an identifying document with you, okay?"
PERSON 1: "Y-yes, thank you very much, liege."
PERSON 2: "We will pause our activity for today and g-go and get the legal matters sorted, Sama-san. Good bye!"
BAMES JOND looks on caringly at the TWO HUMANS departing the scene of an avoided unpleasant incident. SCENE 1 END

In a media release, the RCMP said 62-year-old Clara Elaine Visser faces one charge of fraud over $5,000. The RCMP said that in the summer of 2021, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) launched an investigation of a federal consultant who did contract work with eight separate federal government departments and Crown corporations. Hi!! Idk if u write for Scaramouche/Wanderer, but could I maybe get a short imagine/hcs him with a regressor? Maybe with a padded baby regressor? Thank uuu!! Bye bye bear!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course! I’m sorry it took a little while!! Also I’m sorry I’ve been taking so long to get to your other request, I’m a bit stumped on ideas for it!
⋆୨୧˚ Carer Scaramouche HC’s + imagine!!˚୨୧⋆
♡ He didn’t quite understand what age regression was at first, and why you would mentally regress to babyspace and was hesitant to take care of you at first.
♡ Once he did however, he began developing a soft spot for the little one and slowly warming up to them while they were in that state, buying them the occasional soft toy or baby item for them.
♡ Due to being a harbinger, he always acts big and tough around you in public, but when it’s just the two of you, he’s a calm, caring person. He loves bouncing his little one on his knee.
♡ He often goes by Papa or Dada, but he doesn’t really mind and allows his little to call him anything they’d like or prefer.
♡ He was absolutely terrified by the idea of diaper changes, running to consult with Yae and Ei on what to do, but with a lot of assistance and guidance, he became quite efficient at them!
♡ He makes sure to keep Childe away from his little one, he doesn’t want Childe to get them into any mischief.
And now! Onto the imagine, enjoy! 🐾
☆ ^_^ <3
There was never really any peace for Scaramouche, his day full of scheming, training.. more scheming.. more training..
But in the midst of all the chaos and stress, he had you, his precious little darling. He let out a long sigh as he shut the door behind him, striding into his quarters in a huff, but when he saw them, his frown became a soft smile.
“Sweetheart.. I’m home.” He said gently, walking over to where you lay, on your baby activity mat. Scaramouche had procured many different things for you to create a safe haven for you to relax, a playmat, many stuffed toys and even a cool crib with the finest sheets and even a hanging mobile.
He crouched down besides you, running his hands through your hair as you babbled, nodding as if he could understand every word.
“Ahh.. I see. I hope you haven’t got into any mischief since I’ve been away?” He asked, raising an eyebrow as he leant forward, gently rubbing your tummy. He thought you were such a cute baby, so wholesome and adorable! He patted your head, getting comfortable on the mat next to you, smiling at you all the while.
He chuckled lightly, watching your expression become that of surprise as he covered his face, peeking through his fingers to see your reaction. He loved playing little games like this.
“Peek a..” he murmured, stopping for a moment to build suspense before uncovering his face.
“Boo!” He smiled, watching as you burst into a fit of giggles before reaching for one of your stuffies, holding it carefully.
“Well now I’m home.. do you want to play with Papa for a little? And then I can get started on dinner?” He asked, adjusting the buttons of your onesie.. it seemed you were a bit too small to get dressed by yourself, the buttons were all wonky!
“There we go.. I’m very proud of you for managing to not only change yourself, but get into your onesie!” He praised, pressing a kiss to your forehead before he began to play along with your games, he was truly lucky to have such an adorable and lovely little one such as you.

This was really fun to write, and probably my longest post so far! I hope you like it! - Bear 🐻

On June 5th 1592 an act of the Scottish Parliament came into force “concerning the Office of Lyoun King of Armes and his brether Heraldis”
The Lord Lyon is still in use today and an important office in all heraldic matters.
The title, Lord Lyon - King of Arms, stems from an ancient tradition of sovereign appointment. The appointee is responsible for "granting armorial bearing of the recognition of clan chiefs". The Lord Lyon, who has his own procurator fiscal, investigates abuses of heraldic law.
The position may incorporate the much older Celtic office of royal Seanchaidh or of King’s Poet with responsibility for keeping the royal genealogy and attending the inauguration (later coronation) of the King.
The Lord Lyon is the sole King of Arms in Scotland. He is Head of the Heraldic Executive and the Judge of the Court of the Lord Lyon which has jurisdiction over all heraldic business in Scotland.
On ceremonial occasions the Lord Lyon is accompanied by Her Majesty’s Officers of Arms, all of whom are members of the Royal Household. They are at present Rothesay Herald, Snawdoun Herald and Marchmont Herald, Ormond Pursuivant, Dingwall Pursuivant and Unicorn Pursuivant.
The Officers of Arms may be consulted on matters of heraldry and genealogy by members of the public and may represent their clients before the Lyon Court.
An Act of the Scottish Parliament of 1592 gave the Lord Lyon responsibility for prosecuting as a criminal offence anyone who uses unauthorised Arms. The Court has its own Procurator Fiscal an independent official prosecutor.
In 1672 a further Act of the Scottish Parliament authorised the creation of the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland. This Register is maintained by the Lyon Clerk and Keeper of the Records and contains an official copy of every Coat of Arms granted in Scotland since 1672.
Anyone can create their own coat of arms for your family. it is the Lord Lyon, and his deputies that will do a search to verify it is unique and register your design.
Sir David Lyndsay of the Mount a poet and diplomat during the Scottish Renascence was the first official Lord Lyon from 1542–1554 but the actual office of Lord Lyon predates the year 1399, with Henry Greve recorded as the first holder during the reign of Robert III. There is an oft-repeated statement that Robert the Bruce created a Lyon King of Arms in 1318, but this is open to considerable doubt. The story seems to have been originated in the fifteenth century by a sub-prior of Arbroath Abbey, one William de Pittenweem. However, the Exchequer and other Records do not support the assertion and it is not until 1377 that the office of “Lyoun Herauld” is known to have existed.
The Rev. Canon Dr. Morrow is the present day Lord Lyon, he was appointed in 2014.
The first pic is the arms of Lord Lyon, next is Sir David Lindsay of the Mount who was Lord Lyon from 1542 to 1554. A poet and diplomat during Renaissance Scotland, then the Seal of the Lord Lyon King of Arms, created in 1673, depicting the arms of the Lord Lyon, lastly is Lord Lyon King of Arms' crown. The others are labeled

The general question that might be asked is - why is infrastructure more expensive in English-speaking countries, seemingly, than in places like Spain or Japan? (and it is) Is there just too much consultation? Do Anglosphere polities just give too much damn say to people who don’t want to be pushed out of the way for the common good? And my answer is … yes and no. Basically, I am not sure that the UK/US/Australian system really does have more veto points and people wanting to be bribed or look after local interests than anywhere else. But it seems very likely to me that the Anglo-Saxon system of governance does have one characteristic that makes it much more likely that every single such potential sticking point will become an actual sticking point. And that characteristic is “a healthy, vigorous and well-resourced professional services industry”. We know that this is one of the crowning glories of common law economies - it’s the great big intangible asset which was created in the time of William the Conqueror, has been invested in relatively consistently for nearly a thousand years, and which generates consequent outsize returns. But if you’ve got such an industry, then you have to respect it as a system. And as a system, it generates fee income. That’s what it’s there to do. And you can’t expect that it’s going to differentiate between one sort of fee income and another. Everyone involved in infrastructure procurement is paid according to a proportion of the costs, either contractually or de facto. So my first-order explanation for why it is that common-law countries spend so much on consultations, inquiries and litigation over every little bit of public investment is that there are lots of nice family houses in conveniently located London suburbs, the mortgages on which depend on this being so. [...] And unfortunately, I don’t see much that can be done about this. The cost of building railway lines in England is largely due to the presence of very aggressive and skilful consultants and lawyers. But the revenue base that pays for the infrastructure is also largely due to the presence of a big and successful professional services industry. We’ve somehow created a pathological relationship between the two, but it’s not obvious how you can cut out the bad bit while leaving all the valuable stuff alone.

Notes from the Jan 28 OTW Public Board Meeting
Today's Agenda:
Decisions made since the last public board meeting
Diversity update
2024 Board roadmap
Any other business (Questions & Answers)
Decisions taken since last meeting:
Approved new chairs for Webs, Communications
Approved Board Confidentiality Policy
Approved Board Break Policy
Granted new threshold for Finance's expense approval
This meeting ran as smoothly as the last, again due to the fact that the only people allowed to post to the meeting room are Board members and there's no way to ask questions about the business at hand. The first roll call showed 99 guests. The second had 75, and the last 67. So around 100 people were there at one point or another, maintaining the trend of increased attendence since End OTW Racism began encouraging fans to show up for the meetings.
The diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) update, was, in its entirety:
We're pleased to announce that our contracted organizational culture firm finished conducting interviews in December, and will be sharing their final report with the Board very soon.
This was so inadequate my eyes nearly rolled out of my head. Their DEI efforts cannot begin and end with this firm's audit, but as long as we're on the subject, what did they learn from the preliminary report? Did it trigger any changes in the organization? And, as I asked in my one alloted question: If the OTW doesn't release the consultant firm's findings to the public, either in full or in summary, what other kind of transparency and accountability mechanisms will be employed?
To that, Anh Pham responded: We don't have the report yet, so we cannot give a specific answer at this time. We know that people are eager to hear the findings and will share what we can when we can.
But back to the agenda. After that DEI "update," Kathryn S shared the Board's roadmap for 2024:
The following is a list of tasks that the OTW Board hopes to accomplish by the end of the current Board year on September 30, 2024. Completing this list is our goal, but it will depend on numerous factors outside of our control. We will continue to post updates on our progress on these and other tasks in the OTW Signal and in Public Board Meetings. Trust, Safety, and Accountability: * Enable Elections Committee to pay for elections without requiring Board approval - DONE * Board Confidentiality Policy - DONE * Policy for Making a Formal Complaint Against a Board Member - IN PROGRESS * Improve Board transparency - STARTED * Improve Board responsiveness and turnaround time for communications - STARTED * OTW Whistleblower Policy * Review and revise OTW policies for volunteer discipline Soliciting Expertise: * Procurement Policy (Outlines steps to find new consultants, contractors, tools, etc. in a fair and fiscally responsible manner) - IN PROGRESS * Create Requests for Proposal for various consultants/contractors Following Existing Plans: * Stay up to date with Board's goals in the OTW Strategic Plan * Assist other committees to reach their goals in the OTW Strategic Plan * Support Strategic Planning Committee through the implementation of the Strategic Plan * Lead the review, approval, and implementation of recommendations from organizational culture survey Board Sustainability: * Board Break Policy (Requires Board Members to take a reasonable break from Board work every year to prevent burnout) - DONE * Board Hiatus Policy (Outlines procedure for going on and coming off hiatus, as well as establishing limits for how many Board Members can be on hiatus at once and how long a hiatus can be) - IN PROGRESS *Board Annual Self-Assessment and Still Willing to Serve survey Board Assistants Team (BAT) Committee: * Approve creation of new committee - DONE * Approve committee chairs - DONE * Approve first committee members - DONE * Work with BATs to create systems to better manage Board tasks - STARTED
After all that copying and pasting we had 45 minutes left for questions.
The first question was:
Q: Have there been any meetings or other progress regarding updating the AO3 Terms of Service since this summer? Given the timezone difficulties involved in coordinating real-time meetings, is asynchronous meeting being considered (and if it is not, why not)? When do you expect TOS revisions to be complete? kcdayton: We are getting ready to begin asynchronous meetings about this; we hope to either make significant progress or complete the work by the end of this Board term. We will provide updates at our next meeting.
Someone astutely asked:
Q: I see that the Board has "started" working on transparency in the update. Could you clarify what steps are involved in this process, please? Kathryn S: For one, better Board meetings! We're making an effort to answer more questions during these quarterly meetings. We are also sharing updates through the monthly OTW Newsletter, which you can find on the OTW website. We have also made internal changes, such as giving a way for volunteers to request public responses to questions asked in our Volunteer Anonymous Feedback Form, answering volunteer questions in an internal public space, and having a policy for making volunteers and chairs aware when individual Board members are unavailable (e.g. when they are on vacation).
There were two questions about ensuring disciplinary measures are applied fairly.
Q: What internal policy changes is the Board pursuing to ensure that volunteers of color aren't held to an unfair double standard when being corrected/disciplined? Kathryn S: We cannot currently speak to specific policy changes, but we are committed to reforming our disciplinary procedures in line with best practices, including considerations for holding volunteers of color to an unfair double standard. We will continue to provide updates.
The second, purely based on its wording, got more of an answer:
Q: What standards are in place for dealing with racism and hate speech within the org without being subject to the personal biases of the board and chairs? Kathryn S: We are in the process of revising our formal disciplinary processes and procedures, and we're also working on a volunteer complaint process that will ensure fairness for all volunteers. We also expect the organizational culture consultant to have recommendations related to this.
Got a bit of clarification on what "soon" means:
Q: What is the Board's time estimate on when the results of the organizational culture firm's report will be shared with the Board? Will it happen before the next public Board meeting? Michelle Schroeder: We do expect to see it soon, so definitely before the next public Board meeting, which will be next quarter (so in about three months).
Then there were two questions about the Board meetings themselves.
Q: Some questions here can only be answered in real-time with "more information to come". Could such questions be noted in after-meeting reports to help track issues due for follow-up? (Or is there another plan for reporting on them?) kcdayton: We can look into ways to indicate fuller responses when we add the post-meeting replies, sure! On that note, Board shared the updated responses to 2 questions we answered live in November 2023 meeting in the #questions-answers channel. You can check them here #questions-answers November 2023 post-meeting Q&A. We are also paying attention to what people want to know so that we can do better next time! Q: Will we have more frequent meetings? Kathryn S: These public meetings take a lot of time to prepare for, so it is very unlikely that there will be more than 4 per year for the foreseeable future.
Questions were also asked about improving communications between committees, hiring additional consultants/contractors, committees holding open meetings, what's being done to prevent volunteer burnout, and AO3's policy on AI-generated works. If you'd like to read more on these subjects, I recommend joining the OTW Discord and reading back through the #public-board-meetings channel, which is pretty straightforward now that Board members are the only ones allowed to post there. If you've already joined, you can use this link to jump to the top of the Jan 28 meeting.
The Board took fourteen questions all told, though some were not blessed with what I would call answers. The questions that did not get answered at all will be replied to in #questions-answers starting in two weeks on February 10, 2024.
Meanwhile, at the top of the hour, in the #open-chat channel where people socialize and post their questions for the Board, Kathryn S shared a statement from the Board, with this introduction from dazyndara: "Before we get started, we are aware of the ongoing discussions around the OTW and Israel-Palestine. The Board has prepared a statement on the topic which they will share now. Follow-up questions can be sent in via the contact form but will not be addressed during this meeting."
Dear Meeting Attendees: We understand that many attending are planning to ask for the Board to make an official statement on the Israel-Palestine conflict. It is the policy of the OTW to not make official statements on anything that falls outside of the purview of the OTW as a nonprofit organization: fans, fandom, and Internet policy. This is primarily for the following reasons: * Engaging in advocacy beyond the organization's purview could risk revocation of our 501(c)(3) status. * The OTW community is enormous and diverse, and is impacted by a huge variety of political issues. Making a statement on some issues would make our silence on others more significant – and more hurtful to those impacted. * Researching and crafting official statements on complex political issues takes a significant amount of time and effort, and the Board has limited time and needs to focus on the elected mandate of running and improving the OTW. * The OTW is respected as an advocate for fans and fandom, and our statements in this regard are therefore taken seriously and have an impact. Public stances made by the OTW regarding topics outside of the organization's scope are far less likely to be taken seriously, and could even reduce the impact of future statements made within our purview. We know that this is disappointing to many of you, and we are sorry. However, as the people responsible for the current and future wellbeing of the OTW, we are not going to break or change this policy. Respectfully, The OTW Board
But as satsuma points out in So the OTW Board is still being terrible, but this time about Gaza, the OTW has already taken a political stance when they decided to treat the phrase "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" as threatening rather than liberatory, and now they are refusing to comment on that choice.
For this, and other reasons, I found this meeting very frustrating. I am not feeling any kind of increased transparency from the OTW or the Board, and that DEI update was a joke. Also they were back to banging on the drum of the Contact Us Form. I once again took them at their word and threw this series of questions into their mailbox: What is the structure of your agreement with the consultant firm? What are they contractually obligated to deliver? Is it just a report or will they be assisting in or assessing your implementation of their recommendations?
But I still haven't gotten any response to the last ten letters I sent, so at this point I'd have just as much luck chucking them down a wishing well, with about the same results.

Dozens of women suspected of having illegal abortions have faced criminal investigations from the police in recent years, new figures show.
Information obtained under freedom of information (FOI) laws reveal at least 36 women endured criminal investigations after being accused of having illegal abortions from April 2014 to December 2021.
The data, obtained by National World and based on responses from 35 police forces, looked at recorded crimes for the two charges of procuring an illegal abortion and the intentional destruction of a viable unborn child.
It comes after Carla Foster, 44, was sentenced to 28 months in jail earlier in the month, having obtained drugs to end her pregnancy at 32 to 34 weeks during lockdown.
Dr Jonathon Lord, who represented medical organisations in the case, told The Independent the sentencing of the mother-of-three “brought back the horrors of the 1960s”.
The consultant NHS gynaecologist at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust added: “The really big fear is that we know the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) are sitting on lots more cases - waiting to see whether this one would be jailed and thereby prove a public interest in prosecuting.
“So we now expect anything between six to 40 proceeding - it is so hard to know numbers as it’s all so secretive. We don't know if these cases will be charged. Another issue is that patients are told to speak to nobody. So one woman had post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for over six months before we heard she’d had a premature delivery that arose suspicion.”
Dr Lord explained the CPS evidence in the recent headline-grabbing case involving Foster included the fact she searched for ways to cause physical harm such as “Can being hit in the stomach cause a miscarriage?”, adding this demonstrates “she was so desperate she was even considering self-harm”.
Dr Lord noted she had been imprisoned under a law from 1861 - “an era when public hangings drew large crowds and 67 years before women were able to vote”.
The latest Home Office data show the number of Britons being investigated by police over suspected illegal abortions has more than tripled in the last decade.
Recorded crimes for abortions surged from eight in 2013/2014 to 27 cases in April to December 2022 so far.
This includes recorded crimes for three separate charges of procuring an illegal abortion, the intentional destruction of a viable unborn child and concealing an infant death pre-birth. While the first two charges are punishable by life imprisonment, the latter carries a three-year prison sentence.
Some of the cases included in the government data could relate to investigations into abusive partners forcing a woman into having an abortion, those who sell abortion pills, and individuals whose violence against a woman or person with a womb causes them to lose their pregnancy.
Earlier in the month, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard Foster was between 32 to 34 weeks pregnant when she took the abortion pills – with Justice Pepperall saying she felt “very deep and genuine remorse”, was “racked with guilt” and still had nightmares over her actions.
Kate Osborne, a Labour MP who sits on the women and equalities committee, told The Independent the imprisonment of Foster was a “disgrace” and was “perverse” as she called for abortion care to be decriminalised.
“This case shows that the current legislation is unsafe for women and could potentially open the door for more prosecutions,” she added.
Labour MP Stella Creasy, an outspoken campaigner for abortion rights, noted “no other healthcare service sits on a criminal foundation” as warned “it’s time to treat all patients equally and introduce a proper medical framework to guide access rather than use the threat of prosecution to deter it.”
A spokesperson for the CPS said: “These exceptionally rare cases are complex and traumatic. Our prosecutors have a duty to ensure that laws set by parliament are properly considered and applied when making difficult charging decisions.”

What is ESG Controversy, and How Does It Impact Business?
Tumblr media
Social media has augmented the power multimedia coverage has over public perception. The positive aspects of this situation include a rising demand for accountability and transparent corporate communication. However, the potential misuse of modern media, third-party firms’ intelligence, and news platforms can threaten the brand you develop through fake news. For instance, an ESG controversy, whether real or not, can impact a business. And this post explains how.
What is an ESG Controversy?
An ESG controversy encompasses all events concerning actual or alleged adverse impact assessments, sustainability non-compliance, data theft, etc. The environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors help analysts create comprehensive reports and financial disclosures, highlighting potentially controversial business aspects.
Controversial events can decrease your company’s reputation, increase legal liabilities, and alienate the stakeholders. Besides, brand-related risks have long-term consequences. Therefore, corporations leverage ESG controversy analysis to identify the activities that can undermine their strategic vision, financial performance, and stakeholder interests.
What Causes an ESG Controversy?
Advanced technology empowers today’s world, empowering researchers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), industry bodies, regional authorities, and consumers. They can quickly investigate if a brand has engaged in ESG non-compliant activities.
Employing child labor, discriminating against employees, polluting the environment, or engaging in corruption can affect your company’s relationships. Sometimes, old norms become obsolete, and new legal frameworks replace them. However, specific organizations might miss such dynamics or willfully postpone compliance.
Through ESG consulting, businesses can acquire thematic insights into sustainability compliance and controversy exposure. Themes include energy transition, labor rights, social good, carbon emissions, and waste disposal. So, investors, authorities, businesses, NGOs, and consumers can decide which brands to support or ignore.
How Does an ESG Controversy Impact a Business?
1| It Can Discourage Investors
Ethical and impact investors want to focus on enterprises working on socio-economically beneficial projects. They also employ exclusion strategies when building portfolios based on sustainable development goals (SDGs). Investors are less likely to include a brand with a controversial background in their portfolios.
2| ESG Controversy Can Lead to Consumer Boycott
Launching a new product or service will become more challenging if a company is part of a controversy. Consumers believe in buying from brands that share their values. Suppose they learn about a brand’s ESG controversy. They will deliberately avoid its products, events, and services. Simultaneously, social media and news platforms can accelerate the brand boycott trends.
3| Legal Processes Will Impact the Business
Addressing non-compliance issues can involve fulfilling legal requirements like account audits, independent inquiries, or financial penalties. These activities can make specific business operations inefficient for a while. Otherwise, the managers might get trade restrictions for an indefinite period.
4| ESG Controversy Makes Supply Chain Management Riskier
Consider a business that procures critical components from a supplier that employs child labor and releases untreated industrial effluent into water bodies. Therefore, the brand is at risk. After all, ESG controversy analysis does not stop at the company level. It inspects whether a few supplier relations can damage your stakeholder goodwill due to questionable practices.
Steps of Controversy Monitoring and Reporting
Recognizing the vulnerable aspects across the environmental, social, and governance pillars helps companies and investors streamline risk assessment. Think of the deforestation risks that will be higher in the case of construction projects. However, water resources will be more vulnerable to pollution from the heavy chemicals industry.
Later, you want to create a consolidated statistical method to rate the adverse impact according to ESG controversy risks. It will allow companies to benchmark their compliance.
Finally, investors must determine whether they want to buy or sell an asset using the final reports. Likewise, business leaders must explore opportunities to make their organizations more resilient to controversies.
Conclusion
Several possibilities affect how everyone essential to your business development perceives you. Their faith in your brand shakes once your organization becomes the focus of global and regional media coverage for the wrong reasons.
Still, every ESG controversy analyst will follow a unique system to evaluate the risks that business leaders must mitigate to have a positive impact. As a result, corporations must select analysts with an established track record of sustainability compliance and risk assessment.

Foundations of Canadian Contract Law in Procurement
Tumblr media
In the dynamic landscape of Canadian procurement, understanding the legal foundations of contract law is crucial for ensuring compliance and minimizing risks. This blog, presented by The Procurement School, delves into the core principles of Canadian contract law concerning procurement practices, offering insights that can benefit procurement professionals, suppliers, and stakeholders involved in the contracting process. Additionally, those looking to deepen their understanding of these principles may find value in pursuing procurement certificate programs, which can enhance their knowledge and skills in this vital area.
Foundational Aspects of Canadian Contract Law in Procurement
1. Overview of Canadian Contract Law
Canadian contract law is rooted in common law, based on judicial precedents rather than statutory law. The legal principles governing contracts in Canada are primarily derived from English common law, with some variations depending on provincial legislation. At its core, contract law aims to enforce agreements between parties, ensure that obligations are met, and provide remedies in breach cases.
Key Elements of a Contract
To form a legally binding contract in Canada, certain key elements must be present:
Offer: One party must present an offer to enter into a contract, outlining the terms and conditions.
Acceptance: The other party must accept the offer, demonstrating their intention to be bound by the terms. Acceptance must be unambiguous.
Consideration: Value must be exchanged between the parties, such as money, services, or goods.
Capacity: Both parties must have the legal capacity to enter into a contract, meaning they are of sound mind, not minors, and not disqualified from contracting.
Legality: The contract's purpose must be legal; contracts that involve illegal activities are unenforceable.
2. The Role of Contracts in Procurement
Contracts are the backbone of procurement processes, providing a framework for exchanging goods and services between buyers and suppliers. They establish the terms under which procurement transactions occur, including pricing, delivery, quality, and performance standards.
Types of Procurement Contracts
Procurement Canada contracts can take various forms, including:
Fixed-Price Contracts: The contractor agrees to complete the work for a set price, providing predictability in budgeting.
Cost-reimbursement contracts reimburse: the contractor for allowable costs incurred plus a fee. They are often used in research and development projects.
Time and Materials Contracts: Payment is based on the time spent and materials used, providing flexibility but potentially less predictability in costs.
Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Contracts: These contracts allow for an indefinite quantity of supplies or services to be delivered during a fixed period, giving procurement flexibility.
3. Legal Framework Governing Procurement
Understanding the legal framework that governs procurement is essential for compliance and risk management. In Canada, procurement activities are subject to a combination of federal, provincial, and municipal laws and international agreements.
Federal Procurement Legislation
At the federal level, procurement is primarily governed by the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and the Government Contracts Regulations (GCR). These laws outline the procedures for government procurement and emphasize transparency, fairness, and accountability.
Provincial Procurement Legislation
Each province has procurement legislation establishing the rules for public sector procurement. For example, the Ontario Procurement Act and the British Columbia Procurement Policy set out the framework for procurement practices in their respective provinces, emphasizing ethical practices and competitive bidding.
International Agreements
Canada is also a signatory to various international trade agreements, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). These agreements aim to promote fair competition and provide guidelines for cross-border procurement.
4. Critical Principles of Procurement Law
Several vital principles underpin Canadian procurement law, shaping the conduct of procurement activities and the formation of contracts.
Transparency
Transparency is a fundamental principle of public procurement. It ensures that processes are open and accessible to all potential suppliers. This includes clear communication of procurement opportunities, evaluation criteria, and decision-making processes. Transparency fosters trust in the procurement system and minimizes the risk of corruption or favouritism.
Fairness and Non-Discrimination
Procurement processes must be conducted fairly and without discrimination. This principle requires that all suppliers have an equal opportunity to compete for contracts, regardless of size, location, or other factors. Ensuring fairness helps to level the playing field and encourages healthy competition.
Accountability
Accountability in procurement involves holding parties responsible for their actions and decisions throughout the procurement process. This includes ensuring that procurement officials adhere to established policies and procedures and that suppliers fulfil their contractual obligations. Accountability mechanisms, such as audits and oversight bodies, help maintain the procurement system's integrity.
Value for Money
Public procurement aims to achieve the best value for money, balancing quality, cost, and other relevant factors. Procurement professionals must assess bids on price and the quality of goods and services offered, delivery timelines, and the supplier's track record. This holistic approach ensures that public funds are spent efficiently and effectively.
5. Common Challenges in Procurement Contracts
While contracts are essential in procurement, they can also present challenges that procurement professionals must navigate.
Ambiguity in Contract Terms
One of the most common issues in procurement contracts is ambiguity in terms and conditions. Vague language can lead to misunderstandings and disputes between parties. To mitigate this risk, it is essential to draft contracts clearly, using precise language that defines each party's rights and obligations.
Changes in Scope
Changes in project scope can arise due to unforeseen circumstances or evolving requirements. Such changes can lead to disputes over costs, timelines, and performance expectations without proper change management procedures. Establishing transparent processes for handling changes in scope within procurement contracts is crucial.
Breach of Contract
A breach of contract occurs when one party fails to fulfil their obligations as outlined in the agreement. Breaches can result in legal disputes, financial losses, and damage to relationships. To minimize the risk of breaches, procurement professionals should conduct thorough due diligence on suppliers and establish robust monitoring mechanisms to ensure compliance.
6. Dispute Resolution in Procurement
When disputes arise in procurement contracts, resolving them efficiently and effectively is essential to minimize disruption. Several mechanisms can be employed for dispute resolution:
Negotiation
Negotiation is often the first step in resolving disputes. Open communication between parties can lead to mutually acceptable solutions without formal proceedings.
Mediation
Mediation involves a neutral third party facilitating discussions between the parties to help them reach an agreement. This method is less formal than arbitration or litigation and can preserve relationships.
Arbitration
Arbitration is a more formal process in which an arbitrator reviews the case and makes a binding decision. This method is often faster and less costly than litigation, making it an attractive option for resolving procurement disputes.
Litigation
If other methods fail, parties may resort to litigation in court. This process can be time-consuming and expensive, so it is typically considered a last resort.

Top 5 Qualities to Look for in TMT Bar Manufacturers
Tumblr media
At the heart of every powerful construction project lies the very core material. Among them, Thermo-Mechanically Treated (TMT) bars become that most crucial element that can break or make the strength, durability, and safety of buildings, bridges, and other infrastructures. Deciding the right TMT bar manufacturer is not merely an act of procurement but is, in fact, investing in long-term structural security.
Role of TMT Bars in Construction
The TMT bars are a backbone of modern construction which is superior to strength and corrosion resistance compared to the other traditional steel reinforcement. The performance of the construction materials, however, can have a huge difference among different types of TMT bars produced by different manufacturers.
5 Defining Qualities of Exceptional TMT Bar Manufacturers
1. Sophisticated Manufacturing Technology
A good TMT bar manufacturer should have good technological infrastructure. The best among them are those which maintain accurate temperature control in the quenching and tempering processes. One feature that separates the great manufacturers from the average ones is this. Invest in computerized rolling mills, automated quality control systems, precision temperature regulation equipment, and advanced metallurgical testing mechanisms. All these lead to mechanical properties that are in accordance with strength and ductility for the TMT bars.
2. Strict Quality Certification and Compliance
Leading TMT bar manufacturers differentiate themselves with strict quality certifications. Most manufacturers comply with the minimum industry standards, while quality manufacturers take it one step ahead by:
ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Certification
BIS certification
International quality accreditations
Third-party laboratory testing on a regular basis
Quality documentation is transparent
Certifications are not paper-thin; they are the commitment of manufacturers to keeping up with quality products and constant improvement.
3. Metallurgical Expertise and Research Investment
The science behind the production of TMT bars is very complex and intricate. Established manufacturers invest heavily in metallurgical research and come up with new techniques that further improve the properties of steel. Some of the indicators are:
Dedicated research and development departments
Collaborations with engineering institutions
Continuous material science innovations
Comprehensive knowledge of regional construction-related challenges
Publications and technical contributions to industry wisdom
Metallurgical capabilities ensure TMT bars versatile to varied environmental conditions and site requirements.
4. Sustenance and Ethically Manufactured Products
Constructions today require much more than a quality product; require an environmentally conscious and responsible manufacture. The top-ranked TMT bar manufacturers prioritize the following:
Carbon Footprint Reduction
Energy conservation through production
Sensible raw material procurement
Reduced waste and recycling process
Employee safety and fair labor practices
Those manufacturers who are committed to sustainability contribute not only to individual projects but to more general environmental and social objectives.
5. Detailed Technical Support and Customer Service
In addition to the quality of production, high-class TMT bar manufacturers also offer detailed technical support. These are:
Technical documentations on the product
On-site technical consulting
Assistance in structural designs
Construction professionals training
Customer care system response mechanisms
All this means a manufacturer who delivers a holistic solution extending well beyond delivering the product.
An Informed Choice
Selecting a TMT bar manufacturer is a strategic decision on construction project longevity, safety, and performance. By narrowing it down to these five critical qualities, construction experts will be able to make effective decisions that translate into strong, durable, and reliable structures.
A right manufacturer is not just a provider but is a reliable partner in achieving the actualization of architectural visions.
