@hrjunjae
clink, clink, clink, went the knife against the flute. it resounded in the hall, which caused a hush to fall over the gaggle of guests.
by flute, he meant the one used for champagne, not the instrument. and by hall, he meant the one that housed his latest exhibit, ptaki, as he asked for a moment of silent reprieve to utter a few words.
bang yujin cleared his throat, in that non-obnoxious manner that seemed almost silent if you were greater than three feet away from him. then, he attempted a smile, which was a sight so rarely seen in public that the photographers of the event scrambled to grab their cameras and take photos of the moment.
with flash, yujin noted, his teeth gritting together ever so slightly. he was glad this particular exhibit contained nothing but sculptures, or else those media outlets would be eternally banned from his future events.
but sir, that would be bad for press! he could already hear his assistant hyesung’s voice in his head, cautioning him against acting impulsively yet again. it wasn’t yujin’s fault that he had a strong opinion on art critics, and decided to voice said opinion in an interview some two years ago.
to this day, he still doesn’t regret calling them vultures. he even made a sculpture especially for them, as this particular exhibit was bird-themed. the vulture was displayed at the east side of the hall, near one of the exits, its form hunched and not the least bit as glorious as the eagle to its left, nor the majestic albatross to its right.
but now, it was time to be the darling of the press yet again.
“thank you all for coming today.” yujin allowed his voice to carry over the crowd, loud enough to be heard by those in the back. “this exhibit, and all thirteen of its sculptures, were inspired by my childhood fondness for birds.”
he paused, briefly, as a chuckle rippled throughout his little audience.
“i’ve always found them to be such elegant creatures.” he continued, reading off the mental script he had stored in his memory. “and tonight, with ptaki, i hope to showcase their beauty to you.”
to cap off his little speech, he expressed his gratitude: to mr. kang—the museum’s art director—and to his assistant, and finally to the avid guests and potential buyers alike who fought tooth-and-nail to get their hands on the tickets for the one-day exhibit. and when he was done, he raised his glass for a toast, and gave a final, courteous smile.
and slowly, once the incessant clapping subsided and the guests began mingling with themselves, yujin found himself retreating back into his shell. he stayed at the edge of the crowd, dodging interviewers and shyly taking photos with eager fans, all the while sipping on his champagne and wishing he was drinking something else, that was darker in color—like wine, or whiskey, or even rum.
and deep within him, where the darkness lay untouched, he wished he was someone else—but this life was what he chose, and this life had chosen him, and yujin only had one means of escape at this point.
although, that’s a matter for another day.
when his body was finally devoid of energy, he allowed himself to rest by one of the doors—near his vulture statue as well, he noted, chuckling lightly to himself—hoping to slip out the exit without anyone seeing. except, there was this… kid meandering by the door as well. yujin bit the inside of his cheek, wondering what he should say or if he should say anything at all.
maybe he was lost. he seemed younger than yujin, but not so much that he was a minor.
at least, yujin hoped he wasn’t. he was glad that this particular exhibit was tame compared to the others—family-friendly, if you will.
in the end, yujin’s better judgement won over natural curiosity. so he just stood there, flute in his hand and heart in his throat, as he waited for the right time to flee.

20. Niemiecki Wystawowy (EE 32) (German Beauty Homer) Pochodzenie:
Sylwetka krótka, silna, zgrabna o kształcie klinowym, tułów noszony prawie poziomo, o pięknie opływowej linii, tworzy harmonijną całość, usposobienie żywe, chętny do latania, charakter gołębia pocztowego lecz uszlachetnionego.

Piotr Chara: Fotografowanie przyrody to praca. Liczy się wyczekanie, powtarzanie, poprawianie. Ile trwały twoje najdłuższe starania o wymarzone zdjęcie? – 11 lat. Fot.
