HIGH REEPER’s Shane Trimble Talks to D&S Ahead of 3rd Full-Length Album
~Doomed & Stoned Interviews~
By Doob Solo
Tumblr media
HIGH REEPER lead guitarist Shane Trimble meets with D&S contributor Doob Solo for an in-depth, lively interview with a bit of sarcasm, a few laughs between friends, and some unexpected show-and-tell.
Take a full one-hour ride from the 1970s to present-day to get the lowdown on High Reeper's earliest origins and on their new album Renewed by Death, including revelations about the band’s name, album artwork, and primary inspirations for their new songs.
Tumblr media
In our favorite section of this interview, things get poetic when Doob spills her raw opinion of Renewed by Death while Shane listens and backs her on a vintage instrument. Curious? Watch and find out how it manifested!
High Reeper's fresh album Renewed by Death emerges October 4th on Heavy Psych Sounds Records.

SOME BUZZ
High Reeper is a heavy metal band from Delaware/Philadelphia. Shortly after forming in 2016, they were signed to Heavy Psych Sounds Records and have since released two full-length albums and one split EP. They supported their first two releases with almost 90 dates over three tours in Europe alone, including stops at HPS Fests Rome and Innsbruck, Desertfest Berlin and Antwerp, headlining their venue at Desertfest London, Esbjerg Fuzztival and many other killer shows abroad and in the US.
youtube
Originally with a sound deeply rooted in modern stoner metal while still giving a nod to classic heavy metal records, High Reeper’s sound has continued to evolve with each LP and through lineup changes. The result of which helped produce their upcoming 2024 full-length length which is a 35-minute assault of brand new metal that finds the band looking clearly forward while at the same time exploring their influences from the ''80s and early 90s.
youtube
Their third studio album 'Renewed By Death' (2024) will see the day in the fall on Heavy Psych Sounds. It was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Shane Trimble at the band’s brand new studio Sletner Sound, in Wilmington Delaware with Justin Di Pinto also engineering. The cover was done by Solomacello.

ETERNAL SPOKESMAN FOR THE SUPER-SEVENTIES DOOMED GENERATION.
PIC INFO: Spotlight on pioneering American heavy rock/DOOM metal frontman, Bobby Liebling, vocalist lyricist for heavy metal band, PENTAGRAM, c. early to mid '70s, USA.
"Some people thinkI'm an advocate of Lucifer, And some say I'm a child of God -- yes they do, Some people think I've got the nine lives of a cat, And others say I'm filthy as a dog, So you be forewarned, I'm coming after you, About the time I catch up to you, I'll never, No I'll never, I'll never let you go -- alright!"

Big Boss could and would never love the clones but god. god. ocelot could.#and it wasnt just david!!! IT WASNT JUST DAVID!!!! you follow the logic of all of Ocelot’s plans start to finish and he tried HE TRIED#to get every EVERY snake out. DAVID WAS THE MOST ‘OUT’ TO START WITH!!!!!#AND AND AND AND AND AND AND!!!!!#of the boss’s 3 sons….otacon was also the ‘most out’ from the word go. the only one who wasnt a child soldier#OTCAON IS SO OUT OF THE LOOP HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW HE WAS A PIECE ON THE BOARD#we don’t even know if Ocelot knows. but my god if he did. if he DID?! thats his BROTHER?!?!#and Ocelot WAS the proto-type Las Enfant Teribles in everyway that the Boss was the prototype Snake#and the boss didn’t even KNOW Otacon she NEVER knew that strangelove was doing that shit#Ocelot got approximately/metaphorically 15 more minutes with his last ‘son’ than the boss did with her’s and it was enough. it was enough#Snake is going to die but he got an extra 15 minutes of freedom that Big Boss + Ocelot + The Boss NEVER had#there was so much love and it didn’t affect anything and everyone was doomed until the very last minute

i think if i was exploring the ruins of an ancient alien civilization on my home planet and i found a log they wrote describing a species that was very clearly a precursor to mine as "fascinating creatures" that they love to watch in their natural setting and being like "oh we can't dig here we don't want to disturb their habitat!" and just generally talking about how cute they are i think i would immediately begin sobbing

Arteaga – NEON ACIDO (English And Español) (2023)
Tumblr media
Mack of Fuzztlán takes a look at NEON ACIDO, the new album from Chilean occult stoner doom band Arteaga, released August 31st on Interstellar Smoke Records.
It’s a masterful work in six tracks, a unique journey in each one of them that makes It impossible not to be transported back to the seventies with the style that they have managed to achieve in such a magnificent way; a classic, vintage sound, riffs and a seventies rhythm to the max, all as if it were recorded in a still life thanks to this effect of reverberation and remoteness that is acquired, it even has a phantasmagoric air, a sound from beyond the physical.

Frara is really like "I was born with no name then locked in the endless depths of a watery void, unable to breathe, unable to speak, only able to see. The only companion I had was a man that didn't exist, he had no name, no face, and no voice. When I finally escaped I was in a world that was not my own, lived a life that was not my own, adopted into a family that was not my own, a brother that was not my own, played a role that was not my own. I was given a name that was not meant for me."
And Hero is just like "I'm Hero, I'm ten, I'm a human from the surface and my favorite video games are earthbound and brandish! :D"

GREEN LUNG are sad because not only did they miss the solstice celebration, but they're increasingly convinced that they're in the wrong place.
Stonehenge is definitely meant to be bigger than this.
They should have stopped to ask for directions. How many henges can there be, anyway?
The first person to mention Spinal Tap will have to walk home. Not having it. Not today.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Tumblr media
It’s the end of March already? Damn. Join me as I recap releases that slipped under the radar recently.
NEW IN MARCH
Gentle Beast by Gentle Beast
Gentle Beast of Basel Switzerland put out their self titled album this month, and boy is it addictive. The second track, Joint Venture is a massive dose of heavy psych laced with manic energy and eye watering riffs. Greedy Man snarls and pounds its way under your skin with a searing guitar solo and attitude that won’t quit. Caterpillar injects a catchy hook into your bloodstream that you won’t be able to shake. Caution: album may cause fist pumping, head banging, and other uncontrollable movements. 🤘
Cold Mountain by Dhyana
If you have a weakness for drone metal like I do, then Louisiana’s Dhyana is just what the buddha ordered. The meditative sludge EP Cold Mountain was written under the influence of Japanese zen poetry. There are just two tracks, but each is a vast instrumental soundscape that evolves through time and space. Drop in and zone out with the twisting riff and hypnotic drum groove laid down in Sky Above, Great Wind.
OTHER JUICY RELEASES FROM THIS QUARTER
El Rey Del Aquelarre by Santo Fuzz
I rarely cover singles, but there are two in this list that couldn’t be ignored. Santo Fuzz is conjuring up occult stoner doom in Silao, Mexico. El Rey Del Aquelarre, creeps in by candlelight, offering an old-timey horror vibe that’s sure to make the skeletons in your closet quake with delight.
god by PVRS
Belgian postdoom duo PVRS single, god, is a sludgy beast. The song hits that elusive sweet spot; it’s bristling with hard edges, but melodic enough to sing along to. Looking forward to their full album, due out in September.
Desde el Bosque by Moodoom
Buenos Aires doomers Moodoom brought us back to the 70’s with their album Desde el Bosque. The heady combination walking blues grooves and proto doom swagger have kept this album on heavy rotation at casa D&D.
Pulse by Regulus
Sheffield heavy psych outfit Regulus released their latest album back in January, and honestly I’m surprised these fuckers aren’t already a household name. The songs on Pulse are gritty, groovy, and absolutely wipe the floor with your face. Lead singer Chloé Jolivel’s voice has a blues-rock bite that’s effortlessly cool. Contagion is a particular favorite, but let’s be honest— every single track rips. If you like your melodies soaked in gravelly blues and punctuated with epic guitar work, this album needs to be next in your playlist.
