❝ was this not what you expected? ❞ nudges towards arthur if thats okie-
|| Conversational Starters ; accepting!
Oh, there were so many ways Arthur could respond to that deceptively simple question.
Too many, in fact. He bit the inside of his cheek as he mulled over his response, jade green eyes turning from scarlet to focus instead on the contents of his teacup. Contrary to what some other Servants in Chaldea might believe, he did understand diplomacy and did not tend to set out with a desire to pick fights.
Usually.
Had the man before him been the Gilgamesh he knew, then Arthur doubtless would have provoked him without remorse.
But this was not that tall Archer with the wild hair. Another difference brought about by the oddities of summoning. Or perhaps it was caused by the intricacies of Chaldea's summoning system, as opposed to the Grail Wars Arthur had taken part in. Hm. Something to think about later, maybe even to ask Merlin about. Saber sighed, setting the cup down on its saucer with the light clink of porcelain on porcelain and finally raised his head again to look at the other man.
"Indeed it was not. The Gilgamesh I am familiar with is different from you in nearly respect, aside from the superficial similarities in your hair and eyes. He was an Archer, one quite different from the other Archer version of yourself that walks these halls." A small huff, the king waving a hand idly. "He was an irritating, rude, smug, and unbearable pain in many respects."
For a moment he remembered the agony of forcing his broken body to move, to unleash Excalibur to cancel the Flood Gilgamesh was causing with his bow. Of laying exhausted and barely able to move or even see on the pavement afterwards as a gentle rain fell. And the sound of the bottle of precious antidote being placed next to his head as Archer walked away somehow still alive after it all. A promise kept, and that girl's life saved due to it.
"...But he kept his word. So I will extend trust to you, since I assume that, too, is a shared trait in those with your name and face."

#Reading the 18.5 guidebook I got in Italian and... wow haha#Many things are so#I don't know if they were not translated or if I just forgot about them lol#But like#At one point Oz was going to be a girl (which I did recall) and him and Gil would have Some Tension#even though Gil can't forget the girl from his last (proto-Lacie)#The little comic teases the question whether Gil would choose that girl or Til-girl-Oz#And it ends with Oz being super embarrassed and Gil telling him it's alright#That no matter girl or boy or of he had any other name (hehe Romeo and Juliet)‚ it would be the same for him#And Oz would still be himself for Gil#And if that's not... If that's not haha#Like it's so on your face the romantic aspect of that relationship from Gil's side. More explicitly than in the manga itself haha#It was fun to find it#I won't talk about the... trans? implications of this all because that's clear enough in the manga I think#But it's cool#I talk too much#I should probably delete this later#There's a mention of Oz wearing that dark suit in the middle part of the manga in part as mourning for Elliot#And I also didn't remember reading that but I loved it

I’m just gonna say it. I like Rings of Power. And I say this as someone who, 20 years ago, spent a lot of time writing and thinking and talking about the Second Age, so I am deeply aware of every change.
But!!! Watching Sauron seduce and gaslight Celebrimbor into creating the rings?! Chef’s kiss!! Proto-hobbits? Love it! Khazad-dûm at its height? Makes me feral. Gil-galad! Círdan! An elf corrupted by Melkor! Númenor! For everything they choose to change (and they do choose it,) they leave a thousand Easter-eggs for old Tolkien nerds like me, and I’m here for it.

You know, I kind of hate to see people treat Cas!Gil as if he was any less arrogant than his Archer counterpart, when in reality, he just learned that there is a time and place for everything, including arrogance
Same here, and like I kinda understand where those people are coming from since they got used to Saber having a bunch of different versions or alter egos or like Sakura too and some others more. And sure Gilgamesh too has different versions of him like his alter ego that we'll about to see in new volume of fsf or we have proto Gilgamesh or Nebuchadnezzar (well this guy is just Gilface and not actually Gilgamesh but you get the point).
But still you can't treat archer Gil and caster Gil situation as like saber Artoria and caster Artoria because it's a completely different thing and there's a lot of proofs that show that they are one and the same person.
The most obvious one is Babylonia, like there's a lot of moments there that show the connection between caster and archer Gil and it has a huge reference to Gilgamesh's third SG in CCC like I mean.
Also some characters in fgo also mentioning the fact of connection and similarity between archer and caster Gil, like Hakuno for example. She has a line for caster Gilgamesh
AND she uses the same words that archer Gilgamesh mentioned during his third SG speech.
Also in fate samurai remnant there's a lot of archer and caster Gilgamesh references scattered all over his shop. Oh and also this art.
AND there's one official acrylic stand that we have of archer Gil but he wears caster Gil's jewelry.
And caster Gilgamesh can be just as merciless and sharp as archer Gilgamesh
#so yeah those two are one and the same person and who says otherwise is just dumb#also if those people treat caster Gil as alter ego or whatever then why they don't treat kid Gil as other version of him?#because like it's obvious right?#and with caster Gil it's not so obvious because ??? he doesn't look like middle aged or old man ???#I actually have a thought why he still looks young as caster Gil#in CCC Gil mentioned that he managed to retrieve immortality plant or whatever#so I guess he took a test sample and it made him younger#so anyway once again archer Gil and caster Gil is one person. end of discussion#my ramblings#txt#long post#answers

*There is now, of course, Ruler Gil, but since he seems to be an even split between both Archer and Caster, I will just lump him in with either version here. I will do Proto Gil in a separate poll.

Hi there! Do you think the people of Rohan would be familiar with the Elvish history? Like, would they know about the silmarils? How about Valinor and the trees? Balrog and Glorfindel? Thank you so much!
Hi! I think the answer here is an unequivocal…kind of! 🙂
They absolutely know some of that Silmarillion-style history because every once in a while they refer to it in their own lore. For example, in Appendix A Tolkien says the Rohirrim thought this about their great horses, the mearas: “that Béma (whom the Eldar call Oromë) brought their sire from West over Sea.” In that one phrase, we get confirmation that they knew 1) the identity of the Vala Oromë, 2) that he had an association with horses, and 3) that the Valar lived in the far west beyond the sea. So they’ve got clear familiarity with at least parts of that story, and I think that’s only natural.
For starters, their ancestors (the Rohirrim are kin to the House of Hador but settled further east and didn’t go all the way to Beleriand) lived through a lot of those early historical events. So when the elves were up to big deeds, the proto-Rohirrim would have either directly witnessed some of those deeds (for ex.: their immediate ancestors, the Northmen, were liberated from Sauron by Gil-galad at the end of the Second Age!) or heard about them as news made its way around Middle Earth. Those stories would have become part of their general histories and been passed on through the years, making their way eventually to Third Age Rohan (though sometimes incomplete or having been altered through repeated transmission).
In addition, although the Rohirrim as we know them didn’t really interact with elves and seemed to have lost some knowledge and understanding of them (see Éomer’s misconceptions about Galadriel and whether she is well intentioned), they weren’t total isolationists. They were best buddies with the Gondorians, who were the intellectual heirs of Númenor and, thus, knew all that Silmarillion stuff. And they had established relationships with both Gandalf and Saruman. So they had plenty of sources available to them for information about the elves’ ideas about the gods, the world, and the history of Middle Earth.
Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a lot of textual evidence to clarify exactly *which* pieces of those elven stories the Rohirrim knew and believed. I’ve previously highlighted a few Silmarillion references, like Haleth and Aerin, to pop up in Rohan, but they tend to be references to the humans of the First Age rather than the elves or the Valar.
Of the examples you asked about, we can give a definite yes to Valinor (see above), but as for the Silmarils, the trees, or Glorfindel and the balrog in Gondolin, we could only speculate. The Rohirrim’s relatives, the Hadorians, were deeply tied up in the doings of the elves during the War of the Jewels – including the fall of Gondolin, since Tuor was a Hadorian – so I think it’s reasonable to assume that at least some of that made its way to them back then even without a Gondorian or Saruman or whoever telling them about it later. But I can’t produce any specific evidence for that!
If pressed, though, I’d say that the most highly educated of the Rohirrim have probably heard about most of those big ticket events, ideas and people, if only in an abbreviated or adulterated form (and they may not believe all of it to be true even if they’ve heard it). But they aren’t super focused on it anyway, because their primary interest would be the history and lore that’s most directly related to their own forebears, and that didn’t tend to intersect often with what the elves were up to.
Hope that was helpful, and thanks for asking! ♥️♥️♥️
