From the Bristol, UK, IWW Chapter:
“Uprisings in Bristol UK have been continuing since Sunday against the new Police and Crime Bill which would restrict peoples right to peacefully protest and would give 10 yeah prison sentences for people causing damage to statues (the usual sentence for rape in the UK is only 5 years).
The bill also includes many restrictions on traveler communities in the UK who throughout the covid lockdown have faced violence and illegal evictions. This Bill would institutionalise this violence and illegalise the lifestyle of a marginalised and regularly persecuted minority group.
This comes in a time when people are still mourning the death of Sarah Everard who was attacked and murdered by an off duty Met police officer while walking home. Women held vigils around the country for Sarah and some of these were broken up by the police and attendees arrested (by male police colleagues of the officer charged with the murder).
Here in Bristol the Black Lives Matter movement is also very strong and many people feel that the Police and Crime Bill is a response to the people of Bristol pulling down of a statue to Edward Colston, a slave trader who funded many of the cities major institutions.
Locally these struggles have intersected in the #KillTheBill movement and peaceful protests have repeatedly been attacked by the police, causing a revolt on Sunday where Bristolians lay siege to the police station and set several cop vehicles on fire.
Last night, an explicitly peaceful protest was again attacked by police and a number of people arrested and beaten with shield and batons, charged with horses and dogs. Travelers had come to hold space in a public park where they could make their voices heard but they were attacked in the night by the cops, arrested, beaten and their dwellings and property destroyed without consideration that some had nowhere else to go. Several protestors were hospitalised and many more suffered minor injuries.
When young people lay down in the streets shouting that it was a 'peaceful demonstration' the cops charged in, again beating people and arresting anyone who wasn't able to flee. This took place in the middle of a residential area where many of these folks actually live.
For several nights the streets of Bristol have become a physical and metaphorical battleground that may determine the rights and freedoms for all people living in the UK.
Kill The Bill has no official organisers and actions have been mostly autonomous and spontaneous, this includes a march of 5,000 people in support of the protests on Sunday.
Members of Bristol IWW have continually done what we can to support these protests, including providing first aid for protestors who have been injured by the police. While we know some on the British left may question why we have offered our support to this autonomous street movement rather than appealing to the parliamentary system and its antiquated processes. Some even question why we would take part in events that have seen the destruction of police equipotent and self defense used against the cops. We be believe our position to be clear and consistent as members of a revolutionary working class union.
"There can be no peace so long as hunger and want are found among millions of the working people and the few, who make up the employing class, have all the good things of life.
Between these two classes a struggle must go on until the workers of the world organise as a class, take possession of the means of production, abolish the wage system, and live in harmony with the Earth.””

On May 6, Ben, a Jewish New Yorker who was raised Orthodox, counter-protested a pro-Palestinian rally that was part of the “Citywide Day of Rage for Gaza,” outside of CUNY Hunter College on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
The “Day of Rage” coincided with Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The event was promoted by Within Our Lifetime (WOL), an anti-Zionist organization spearheaded by Nerdeen Kiswani, a 2022 CUNY law commencement speaker who was caught on video telling a man, while she was holding a lit lighter, that she wanted to light his IDF sweatshirt on fire.
WOL announced the “Day of Rage” rally with an incendiary image of someone covered in a keffiyeh holding a fiery torch, which student groups, Palestine Solidarity Alliance (PSA) and CUNY for Palestine, posted onto their social media. Ben, who said he’d prefer to use only his first name, told The Jewish Press, “This was an angry mob and Within Our Lifetime was inciting a riot with obvious warlike imagery.”
He asked, “Inciting a riot – is that a crime anymore?”
Three months ago, The New York Jewish Week reported that a spokesperson for Meta, which owns Instagram and WhatsApp, told them that WOL accounts has been removed for violating its “Dangerous Organizations & Individuals policy.”
Ben said a high percentage of the protestors “seemed to be Arab,” and that he believed “a lot of them were definitely not Hunter students…they were much older.”
He was aware of a police presence, and didn’t see violent eruptions at that time.
To counter the pro-Palestinian slogans, Ben chanted back, “Down with Hamas! Victory for Israel!”
Ben said the protestors marched out of Hunter and around the Upper East Side in “a snaky path…probably trying to avoid the police.” He believes they could have been heading towards the Met Gala, where The New York Post reported over 1,000 protestors were being blocked by police. Ben explained, “They got filmed by half the city beating and harassing people, blocking traffic and swarming the Met Gala.”
As Ben followed them along Madison Ave. up toward 86th street, he described the crowd as “all over the place…arguing with people… exchanging insults with pro-Israel people.”
In a video posted on X, two masked men harassed a man with a dog in the street, and one of them threatened to slap the woman he was with.
Ben said a middle aged woman yelled “Heil Hitler!” at him, and a girl whose face was covered in a hijab shouted, “Hitler would burn you all!”
Ben relayed how he “let passion take over. I took out my Israeli flag. I just started shouting, “Nazis, out of the East Side! Nazis, out of the East Side!’” He said he called them Nazis because the “Day of Rage” was on Holocaust Remembrance Day, and the protestors reminded him of “the pro-Nazi German American Bund that used to march on the Upper East Side back in the 30s.”
Jewish World War I veterans and gangsters like Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel took to the streets to battle them, believing it was their civic duty to fight back.
On 74th and Park Ave., Ben said there were no police in sight and he was assaulted – punched in the body and face, and kicked multiple times by different assailants. When one of them snatched his sudra decorated with the Star of David off his head, he dove into the violent crowd and retrieved it, waving it triumphantly. “I didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of taking away my symbol,” he explained.
Someone threw a stone at Ben, injuring his right peck. A few people chased him down the street afterwards, but Ben said he walked and didn’t run because he “didn’t want to look like a coward.” Ben noticed that the glasses he was wearing weren’t even broken.
The Jewish Press has confirmed Ben’s account via the video that has been posted on social media.
Ben said that only after he viewed the video online did he see two New York intelligence offices restraining protestors who shoved and cursed at them on 74th street between Lexington and Park avenues.
Ben lost his beloved Chai necklace, which he believes someone could have grabbed off of his neck. He commented, “My uncle who gave who gave me that necklace would be proud that I lost it doing that.”
You can see the video here: https://x.com/nicksortor/status/1787671509051298154?s=46.

INSANE FOOTAGE: Police blame VICTIMS but new video tells different story
A Jewish man was assaulted by pallywood actors in Melbourne Australia a few days ago. All for trying to reach the door of the town hall where a hearing on a Israel/Hamas conflict resolution.
The almost elderly man was assaulted and called several names including “Zionist pig” and “Dog”.
And what do the police do? They BLAME THE VICTIM!
They drag him through the crowd, injured his arm, and sanctioned HIM, instead of the people who assaulted him.
The man was also visibly wearing a Kippah.
Days later, and pro palestinian individuals and groups are trying to claim he was trying to “intimidate the crowd”. He was not.
Shame on the police for doing nothing
Shame on the protestors for assaulting him

LIMA, Peru—When Dina Boluarte was abruptly sworn in on Dec. 7, 2022, the fact that she was the first female president in Peru’s 201-year history was widely noted, yet barely explored by Peruvian media. Journalists had other things on their minds: Boluarte’s inauguration took place just hours after her predecessor Pedro Castillo was impeached for attempting to dissolve Congress and rule by decree, bringing down the curtain on a 17-month administration that had tipped the Andean republic into unremitting political instability and chaos.
Boluarte’s professional credentials as a lawyer felt like a qualitative leap forward for the presidency—regardless of the fact that she, like her predecessor, had never held public office before becoming vice president for the self-declared Marxist-Leninist Free Peru party in the June 2021 elections.
The youngest of 14 children from a working-class family in the remote Andean market town of Chalhuanca, nearly 10,000 feet above sea level, Boluarte said in her maiden presidential speech that her priority would be to fight for “the nobodies, the excluded, the others, to have the opportunity and access that has historically been denied to them.”
“More than a politician, I am a Peruvian citizen and mother who fully understands the high responsibility that history has put on my shoulders,” she declared. “Responding to that high responsibility is [a show of] my respect for the millions of Peruvian mothers who day after day provide sustenance for their families.”
Now, three months since Boluarte’s swearing in, her presidency has descended into a dark mess of severe human rights violations, its legitimacy decimated by allegations of principle-free political opportunism, brutal authoritarianism, and racism. It looks increasingly inevitable that Peru’s first ever female president will face a similar fate to Castillo, the country’s first ever campesino president (in Peru, the term means someone of indigenous ancestry who works the land), with a post-presidency dogged by legal problems and a potentially lengthy jail sentence.
At the time of writing, 48 Peruvians had been killed by security forces, some while protesting violently; some while demonstrating peacefully; and some who were just bystanders, including a medical intern treating an injured protester. Another dozen people died after protestors’ road blockades prevented them from receiving emergency medical treatment, and one police officer was found dead in a burnt-out patrol car.
In a searing report released in February, Amnesty International warned that Boluarte had presided over an out-of-control police and armed forces that, motivated by “systemic racism ingrained in Peruvian society,” had repeatedly violated international human rights standards by using “lethal ammunition to control demonstrations.” Many Peruvians view Boluarte as having blood on her hands. Three-quarters want her to resign.
“We are not celebrating her presidency,” Indigenous feminist activist Tarcila Rivera Zea said. “For us, it has meant pain and sadness, with so many deaths. More than anything else, it is a feeling of frustration and disappointment.
Boluarte, 60, who is bilingual in Spanish and the indigenous Quechua language, started her presidency relatively well. Indeed, in her inaugural address, she distanced herself from Castillo, referencing her “revulsion” at his flagrant alleged graft and condemning his “attempted coup.” Having been expelled from the Free Peru party nearly a year earlier after openly disagreeing with the party’s more extreme politics—and after managing to stay clear of her predecessor’s endless corruption scandals—she had some credibility in the matter.
But her legacy, to the extent she has one, will remain inseparable from that of her predecessor. This is not only a matter of the authoritarian excesses of her leadership over security forces, but also her emphasis on social conservatism, which has been one of the few areas of common ground between Free Peru’s presidential administrations and the hard-right congressional majority. Free Peru’s campaign manifesto has even been accused of advocating “machismo Leninism” for accusing the state of “subcontracting” its obligation to provide for the children of separated parents to absent fathers by requiring them to pay child support.
“It’s also a lesson learned,” Rivera Zea added. “What her presidency shows is that it is not enough to be a woman or speak Quechua if you don’t have that sensibility or identification with the historically excluded. She could have been a president who showed strength, wisdom, justice, and respect for human rights. Instead, she has aligned herself with the worst in Peruvian politics.”
Far from being carried on the back of a feminist wave, Boluarte’s rise to power came at a particularly challenging time for gender rights in Peru, even as some other Latin American nations have been relaxing restrictions on abortion and increasingly tackling gender violence. Peru was already one of the most socially conservative societies in Latin America, with what are thought to be some of the highest rates of sexual violence in the region, and where abortion is only allowed in cases where the mother’s health is at risk.
It is unclear whether Boluarte has ever identified with the feminist movement, although she has shown an appreciation of gender issues. “[Boluarte’s] not a feminist in the sense of a feminist activist,” Alexandra Ames, a political scientist at Lima’s University of the Pacific, said. “But she’s definitely a woman who feels that she has got ahead by working hard, harder than men would normally have to, and seems to have that awareness.”
While she was vice president, Boluarte also served as minister for development and social inclusion, a role that would normally have a strong gender component. During that time, gender rights came under a sustained assault from lawmakers, one that might have been met with effective resistance from a different executive.
Members of Congress sought to further restrict already highly limited abortion rights with a blanket ban, and change the name of the Ministry of Women to the Ministry for the Family—a switch that in Peru’s machista society could have potentially life-and-death policy consequences for, for example, women facing abusive partners.
But the most damaging counter reform has been a new law allowing parents to block classes with a gender focus—or, as Peruvian conservatives call it, gender ideology.
First introduced to the national curriculum in 2004, gender focus concepts, which include sex education, were aimed at raising awareness among boys and girls of the harms caused by Peru’s patriarchal culture—everything from wage disparities to femicide. Conservatives, often fundamentalist evangelical Christians, caricature gender focus as “cultural Marxism” that encourages premature sexual activity and pressures children into homosexuality and transgenderism.
“Getting rid of gender focus will do enormous damage,” warned Gloria Montenegro, former minister of women. “You’re getting rid of sex education, of a girl’s right to understand herself, to make informed choices, or have good self-esteem. What is so lamentable is that in Peru, we already have so many cases of physical and sexual abuse, of women being raped, often in their own homes, and this is going to make all of that worse.”
Throughout the debate over the curriculum, Boluarte was notable for her silence. She did, at different points during her work as a minister, show protocolary support for gendered development policies, including to empower indigenous women. But she failed to provide any substantive leadership, much less confront the attack on gender focus.
Boluarte did restore gender parity in her government after Castillo’s notorious cabinet appointments, which were not just overwhelmingly male but frequently involved ministers with a track record of misogynistic statements and even domestic abuse—including, briefly, one prime minister.
Ironically, however, that parity was just a return to the status quo ante in a country which, despite its entrenched patriarchy, had previously had some half dozen female prime ministers. Indeed, at one point, just before Castillo’s surprise election victory, almost all the major roles of state barring the presidency had been occupied by women, including the prime minister, foreign minister, defense minister, speaker of Congress, chief prosecutor, head of the judiciary, and chair of the constitutional court.
Boluarte’s term is scheduled to end in 2026, although the deadly repression of anti-government protests means she faces huge and potentially irresistible pressure to resign. Either way, her story as Peru’s first female president seems unlikely to end happily.
Montenegro said Boluarte’s mistake was not realizing she didn’t need to cross the political aisle to build a base of power. “She abandoned the Free Peru program, which, as a party of the left, had a strong social agenda, especially for rural Peru,” she said. “She’s an Andean woman; she should have understood. Where’s the political skill, the ability to broker political compromise and then sell that to the population?”
Protesters are now demanding a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution capable of addressing stark economic injustices. However, a new constitution could also entrench gender inequality. Although there have been no polls on the issue of gender rights in a new constitution, surveys show that most voters want a conservative Magna Carta when it comes to social issues, including prohibiting same-sex marriage and reinstating both compulsory military service and the death penalty.
As for Boluarte personally, the moment she loses her presidential immunity she faces criminal exposure as a head of government who presided over heavily armed police and soldiers gunning down anti-government protesters.
“She’s going to have very serious problems with the justice system,” Montenegro said. “She doesn’t seem to understand that there is no statute of limitations for human rights violations.”

Love how we’re still living in a timeline where police just train animals to maul and mangle people and it’s just treated as the norm by a majority of you.
Call me insane, but I don’t think animals should be trained to attack people actually. I think that’s an extremely abusive situation for the person and animal involved especially when the animal is trained specifically to attack POC. Which is something both cops and rednecks have done purposely and accidentally.
Dogs are brainless animals so when they see master react badly only to POC...they react badly to only POC...
And yes this OP is very pro-destruction of police dogs. Idgaf you’re gettin put down fido. And I know yall are gonna ignore this post because you value animals over POC specifically Black lives, but I will say I also love how you guys never question the police using animals as weapons like that doesn’t abuse the animal in any form or fasion or put them in constant danger for something that should have no part in being a mindless animal.
I always see yall say shit like “that poor animal those protestors shouldn’t have hurt it! It didn’t know any better” and it’ll be a horse some pig cop was galloping into groups of people trying to get the animal to injure them or it’ll be a dog just literally tearing someone apart.

~IRAQ~
Tumblr media
[ I.D. is photograph of miner or worker in rolled up jeans and white shirt, bare feet, yellow hard hat, and covered in what looks like smoke debris. He is sitting in a throne. There is an Iraq flag to the left of him. The text above him says, “Such a powerful picture. Iraqi protestors take over government buildings and sit on the chairs of the elected officials that failed them. This is one such example.” ]
PLEASE READ BELOW
“I'll try to tell you in short. In the beginning of the past month, a small group of Iraqi female students went protesting for a better education system and shit. In Basra of course. The police handled it greatly and professionally, by fucking assaulting the students The tribal leaders basically went out and said that they won't let any sly dog touch "our sisters and daughters in Basra" (btw nasiriyans are known to be extremely jealous)
But then they were met with water cannons. Before the tribal leaders in Nasiriya threat the government with their weapons (yes, tribes are heavily armed) the tribal leaders in Najaf also started protesting So then it became a large protest, then Amara, Basra, Koot/Wassut, and other big and small cities and whole provinces started protesting Soon Teenagers and Millennials led the protests for 2 weeks.
Because if they let the Tribal leaders lead the protests, it would be a blood bath since the tribes are heavily armed and they hate the government, Iran, Kuwait, America, and almost every neighboring country. (They'll cause a civil war in the whole region) So the internet was cut for 2 weeks. Hundreds of protesters died and thousands injured.
Then at the next Friday, a big Multi Million protest was organized across the country After that Friday, the dead body count restarted. To this day, it reached 200 people. And 8000 injured.
There is no article on earth documenting this. But in the last few days something...really phenomenal happened Almost 20 million people in Iraq have participated and are participating in the protests...But that's not it The Iraqi men and women from all the ages, religions, sects, races, have participated in the protests, Standing side by side, after 16 years of division
Even Kurds, started traveling to Baghdad and Babylon to participate in the protests with their broken Arabic.
Students escaped schools to participate in the protests.
Doctors left their desks to go and heal the protesters.
Unfortunately, Heavy machine guns always fire at the protesters, tear gas canisters and bombs are always aimed at the heads and chests of the protesters. At night rockets fly above the protesters heads and Irani snipers are always scattered around on Buildings.
Unknown masked men wearing black chase and follow the protesters that return home.
One incident was when an activist was seen at a protest, when she return to her home a squad killed her, her husband and her 2 children. Although every Iraqi house has an Assault rifle in it,..
Also, in the heart of Baghdad, the area of Tahrir there are millions of protesters over there, many Areas in Iraq had also overthrew the government. Almost all the politicians and corrupt religious men have fled the country.
Also, the province of Babylon was known in the past years as "the Chicken of Iraq" because of how people fear for themselves. During these protests however Babylon stood out from the other provinces being the most violent towards the government and militia.
Few days ago, a group of Irani militia known as "Saraya-lkhurasani" was raiding homes and killing everyone in the street and kidnapping children. Now, Babylon is known as the black rooster Because every building that belongs to Irani militia and government have been burned. The government is just threatening with execution at this point since many branches of the Army, Police and Kurdish Iraqi army have joined the people and overthrown the government in many areas. The separatist puppet Kurdish government is also scared that the Kurds will join the protests. Especially scared of the Province of Suleymaniya Currently many governments in the region are concerned about Iraq. Especially Turkey and Iran.
Sulaymaniyah is known to have fearsome warriors that never liked or wanted the Kurdish government. Even Sulaymaniyah had protests going for years but they just get killed and executioner the same way with no coverage Kurdish Tribal leaders got to the point of asking protesters in Baghdad if they should also start a protest.
And funny things: Protesters made a new magazine called "the Tuktuk" documenting everything regarding Iraq, they also made a few interesting things like using small satellites as shields or make some, make new structures like nets that are supported by iron rods with a net between them catching tear gas bombs and canisters, on bridges in Baghdad they made bunker and castle like structures able to withstand rockets fired by militias, talking about castles and medieval shields, the protesters even made catapults and giant angry birds like slings.
And a new accessory for women that's shaped as a tuktuk.
Edit: it reached 17,000 injured and almost 500 killed, yesterday, 50 people in Nasiriya got murdered and a massacre occurred both in Basra and in Najaf.
Your news channels are so funny.
Edit 2: don't make your self look stupid by assuming that Iraq is nothing but a chunk of Arab people. Iraq is more than that, there's a diverse culture here with a lot of traditions and different languages”

Like those folks on twitter obviously know fuckall about police dogs, starting off with they only use male dogs. They’re already being abused to act that aggressively towards folks. And that human lives are more important than the life of a dog. To say otherwise is so fucked up. IF A POLICE DOG IS ATTACKING YOU- YOU SHOULD DEFEND YOURSELF.
the replies to that tweet were all so stupid like SUPPOSEDLY op was referring to “protestors throwing bricks at police horses without being provoked” but like
a) even if that was true, injuring police horses in such a way that they cannot be used to LITERALLY TRAMPLE protestors is a good thing. i don’t care about the horse in this situation
b) it’s literally used as propaganda to frame protestors as evil and violent. the cops know that people no matter their political leaning usually object to animal abuse and harm.
but all the replies were just like POLICE DOGGOS ARE GOOD BOYS THEY ARE JUST DOING WHAT THEY’RE TRAINED TO DO UWU which is laughably close to the “just doing their job” argument. like k9s are trained to be violent, racist, aggressive, and relentless. It is absolutely okay to hurt them, they are going to hurt you probably far worse.

Cw- police, right wing groups
I saw this and felt the need to share. Portland friends, have courage, you do not walk alone
Very Important Portland Info for tomorrow
TLDR:
Police and Mayor have promised to use any means necessary against protestors
There have been real and credible threats from right wing attendants, with a high chance some will be armed
Police don't need a legal reason to arrest/attack you, Don't talk to police no matter what
NLG are on the ground and have their defense line up at 503-902-5340
Don't go Alone! Stay alert stay vigilant
Heads up, Portland! Tomorrow, again, the far right—ranging from Portland locals, to the heavily armed white dude who waited outside an El Paso immigrant detention center, to Florida residents—will descend on and assemble in the downtown area, and lots of leftists are showing up to oppose. Given the current political context, we need to do a lot of work to keep each other safe. Here are some things to keep in mind:
-Mayor/Police Commissioner, Ted Wheeler, has “empowered and directed the Portland Police Bureau to use whatever means necessary and amass whatever resources necessary to uphold the law.” That’s a direct quote. Be prepared for police escalation against leftists, and maybe a couple of dog and pony show arrests of the far right (like what’s been happening this week) -- Don’t get sucked into the false narrative that the state’s form of “justice” is any sort of liberatory justice! Please don’t cooperate with the state, even if it’s to testify at a grand jury that’s allegedly seeking to file charges against civilian fascists. The state will come down many times harder on the left than it will on the right, and any cooperation only bolsters this process
-The police do not need a legal reason to arrest you, or a hundred of your friends. Remember, they are the ones with the power of the state—they can incarcerate, injure, or kill with impunity. The potential that they’ll get sued later is never a deterrent to violence in the moment (they’re indemnified anyway, so they don’t have to pay for losing a civil rights lawsuit)
-Rose City Antifa has documented numerous threats of violence toward leftists that fascists have been making on social media, so expect them to be carrying weapons that will not be confiscated by the police -- Please know basic gun safety! If you see a gun, assume it’s loaded. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, and always know how you and others can quickly evacuate the area
-The National Lawyers Guild's (NLG) Portland Mass Defense team will be staffing the jail support hotline: 503-902-5340. Please write this on your body in sharpie! This is a number to call if you are arrested, witnessing an arrest (of a leftist), or if you've witnessed or experienced police violence (against someone on the left). Please do not call us to simply describe the brawls between Antifa and Patriot Prayer/Proud Boys, as our role is to support leftists subject to state violence (including policing and incarceration)
-The NLG will have legal observers on the ground, wearing bright green hats, who are there to monitor police conduct, help track arrests (of leftists), write the jail support hotline number on you if you forgot it, etc. Please note that some fash wear bright green hats to these demos, so check to make sure the folks you think are LO's have hats that read, "National Lawyers Guild Legal Observer"
-We have seen the police actively coordinating with the far-right, and are aware that they target leftists with their "less-lethal" weapons and for arrest, including after witnessing violence initiated by the far-right
-Expect random police searches and checkpoints intended to confiscate weapons (including flagpoles and banners) from leftists, that are not enforced against civilian fascists
-DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE! Even if you think you're good at it / think you can get them to quit their jobs / think the conversation is innocuous! They are trained to seek information, and they can legally lie to you! Under NO circumstances are you legally required to talk to any law enforcement agent. This includes when you're on the street, in jail, or if police or district attorneys or their investigators call you after the fact. You don't have to speak with them or call them back! If this happens, call a lawyer (the NLG does field this)! --> If you do get arrested or detained, repeat to the police, "I am going to remain silent. I want a lawyer." If they ask to search your belongings, or start searching, state, "I do NOT consent to this search (or any searches)." At no time during any street interaction with law enforcement (or in jail) in Oregon do you legally have to produce a phone number or ID
-DO NOT go alone! And make sure you have an exit strategy/off-site meeting location for you and your crew. As we keep witnessing, things can get very violent very quickly. Check in with yourself around what you can actually withstand. Leaving early (with a buddy) is ok! Stay alert and stay vigilant!”

Indonesia Abuse of Power during 21st and 22nd May 2019 - a wrong presidential Election
The presidential elections of 2019 Indonesia marked the end of the power and reign of Joko Widodo, but the announcement of this result was followed by two dark days in the history of Indonesia. The two days, 21st and 22nd May 2019 are still remembered as the saddest days for the whole of Indonesia and in particular, for Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.
The protests commenced on the day of announcement after the defeated President did not accept his defeat and passed statements challenging General Elections Commissions (KPU). Not surprisingly, the other candidate, Prabowo Subitian had called for peaceful protests throughout the country, but the protests were accompanied by riots and violence. Throughout Jakarta, vehicles were put on fire, and tires were burnt. Till the night of 21st May, eight casualties were reported with hundreds of citizens injured by tear gasses and chaos. The police took hundreds of protestors into custody including children and peaceful protestors. Water cannons were brutally used by the police to back off the protestors and regain peace- but all for nothing! Instead things had gone from bad to worst. A mob of protestors attacked on police officers with fireworks and stones. This deteriorated the situation even more leading to the unrest in almost the entire city of Jakarta comprising mainly central and western parts of the capital.
On 22nd May, the events had become so tensed that sharing videos and pictures on social media platforms regarding government were restricted. However, some of the protestors reported police having hollow-point bullets in their vehicles, although the claim was completely denied by the police and the officials but it was a serious blow to the police and the government.
To disperse protesters, rubber pellet grenades and crowd control guns were also heavily used by the military personnel’s and police. According to reports, there was a time when noise of gunshots and firecrackers could be heard from different parts of Jakarta. The air was filled with smoke, ash and smell of fire crackers. Military men and protestors could be seen negotiating and running to save their lives. The scattered stones and burning vehicles such as private cars and trucks also had their part in the scene. It was an evening like no other. Aggression and fear could be sensed in the streets of Jakarta.
According to the officials and local news channels, the President Joko Widodo was held a sole responsible for the riots and demonstrations which disturbed the peace, and law and order of the city greatly. Joko was not at all prepared to accept defeat. It was reported that he had cheated and his supporters had casted false votes. Joko’s supporters had declared the presidential elections ‘free and fair’ in order to give their leader, one more chance of ruling on Indonesia, which was absolutely unjustified by Prabowo and his supporters.
Within these forty-eight hours, news channels were continuously broadcasting tragedies that were taking place. A man was shot-dead in the chest by the police on the night of 22nd May, he was taken to the hospital in emergency but could not cope up with the wound and died. Hospitals reported all incoming injured patients that night had serious bullet wounds which needed an immediate surgery.
In a mass shooting many innocents were also killed. Among all those unfortunate souls, one was M. Harun. A little young boy who was shot dead by the police. He belonged to a decent and middle-class family. He was a lively boy, a kid with huge dreams. The dreams which never cam true and were cruelly shattered by the bullets.
Only imagining how his family, specially his younger sister would have received his body shivers the soul of everyone who have even a grain of humanity and sympathy in his heart. The police and specifically the president did not leave any opportunity of showing hatred and greed of power by ordering police to perform such heinous and inhumane acts.
Harun was undoubtedly a cheerful boy, a boy full of life, as reflected by his pictures and videos which are circulating on the internet since the horrible tragedy occurred. There were many other cases similar to that of Harun.
Among them was also Ibunda Faisal Amir, who was slain by the shooting of police. The video in which his mother is asking for the justice of his son with his picture in her hands is enough to wake up the authorities who are responsible for his death.
In short, police were totally and badly failed in guarding the rights of citizens. A common man was treated in a way no one would even treat a stray dog. They were badly beaten with woods and metal rods, pulled on the streets with their shirts ripped off and ultimately were shot by the police if they wanted to do so. Physical abuse, and mental torture had crossed all its parameters of tolerance. The videos circulating and going viral on the internet are the real proof, showcasing the attitude police had when the condition had got out of hands. The basic human rights do not allow any such action which Indonesian police did in those two days in hope of regaining power and throne of president Joko Widodo.
In those two days, the defeated president Joko conveyed one message and principle regarding his character and personality very well. That, to what extent a self-centeredness of a man, who is egoistically obsessed with his power can go.

so, by your rationale, if the gangs/police/government were initiating violence first (i know you don't believe this, but for the sake of argument), you don't believe that violence should be used in self-defense? do you believe they should just allow them to be attacked, up to injury or worse? also, do you think that if a massacre were to take place as a result of the protests, it would be justified? i'm just trying to clarify your stance, because this is what it sounds like.
No. Violence should not be done in self-defense—especially not in protests. What do people mean “we didn’t have a choice?” You always had a choice. You had a choice to take the high road. You had the chance at peace. You didn’t take it.
Because you see, dear anon, when you are fighting for something you believe to be “right,” you should not swoop to the same level as the enemy. Always take the high road, because that way no one can penetrate and divide you. Now, people are turning against protestors because they think the violence has become unbearable (just look at the comments! So extreme on either side). If they never used violence and stayed peaceful, people would continue to support them, including myself. This is a stupid and inefficient tactic. You hit me so I hit you and then you shoot me so I shoot you and it goes on and on until someone gets hurt or worse, dies.
A massacre is most likely going to happen at this rate. Because they are “violent people” and therefore cannot be trusted to stay civil in the future. It’s like a dog. If a dog bites someone and injures them/kills them, the dog is put down. Is it fair? Heck no. Is it what happens? Yeah.
Listen, the people should not have protested so obviously. China is watching us closely, and if we fight so obviously, China will not spare a glance to destroy us. But if we lay low for a while, faking obedience, planning something secretly and attack China when we have the proper power and weapons? That’s smart and much more likely to succeed, do you disagree?

Anon asked: DBH prompt: some (insert language unsuitable for children) tries to steal/hurt Sumo while he’s on a walk with Connor, and the Android gets injured protecting him. Connor doesn’t want to admit Sumo was in danger while in his care and won’t tell Hank why he’s hurt
Connor. Loves. Dogs.
Connor especially loves Sumo. Going on walks with Sumo was one of Connor's favorite parts of the day. Hank kept telling him that now that he was deviant he had to find a hobby or something but...why can't he just go on walks with Sumo? That's a hobby right! And he loved it. Sumo is just so damn cute. He has a weird little trot and he's kinda lazy and always greets Connor with a kiss to the face. You would never guess he was the Lieutenant's dog.
"Sumo. There are twenty minutes left of your recommended walk."
Sumo looked up and him, and despite having no idea what he meant, barked lovingly at him. Connor smiled proudly. He was totally spoiling him with treats later. He pet the dog behind the ears and then continued on their walk, just going about their business.
But sadly Connor's life couldn't let him have one relaxing afternoon, could it?
It started when he had accidentally bumped into a man walking by him. The guy got instantly angry and shoved Connor down to the ground. Connor glared at the man, and mumbled under his breath,
"Come on Sumo, we don't need to deal with rude assholes like that"
Big mistake.
The guy immedietly spun on his heel and turned back to Connor looking PISSED. He got in his face, yelling angrily, "What the fuck was that you said?!"
Connor didn't flinch or move. He was more annoyed at how he could easily detect the high traces of Red Ice in the man's breath. Gross.
He pushed him away, not having time to deal with people on Red Ice of all things, "leave us alone"
The man was about to comment more when he noticed the circle on the side of Connor's head. He started laughing hysterically, a gross wheezing sort of laugh that made him sound even more bonkers than he already did. "Android? Of course of course I'm not even surprised! Hell I bet you're walking a fucking android dog with the way the world is!"
"I can assure you that Sumo is a real dog." Connor stood his ground.
"Aww did your little factory manufucktuer-" he took a moment to laugh at his own little joke, but Connor could barely understand him, "not tell you that your doggy isn't real? So sad."
"I'm leaving now." Connor turned around and began to walk away from the man, but he grabbed onto the leash and suddenly tugged.
Connor glared at him, feeling a proactive anger go through him, "Do not touch that."
"Oh c'mon I just wanna see the little guy" he pouted, tugging the leash harshly again. Sumo uncomfortably barked.
"Leave us alone or I will call the police."
"You think the police give a shit? They don't- they only care about stupid shit like...like loitering."
He lifted up his leg and tried to kick at Sumo, but was stopped when Connor harshly shoved him in the chest, making him stumble back. Once his leash was let go of Sumo ran behind Connor and under a bench. Connor glared down at the man, "I told you to leave us alone." He really fucking hated red ice and what it did to humans.
Now on his nice day off he had to go and file a report to the police station because this asshole stabbed him.
Wait wait- stabbed him?
Connor looked down to his chest where the was a pocket knife sticking out. In shock he opened his mouth and closed it again, looking at the high man.
"What..."
"You're not turning me in robo boy!" He pulled the knife out, and Connor stumbled. He held onto his chest where thirium now bled out. He cringed, about to turn off his pain sensors when the man took his head and bashed it against his knee. His vision instantly went to static, and he found he couldn't get to the pain sensor. The stabbing ache in his head was evidence enough of that.
He looked up at the man who was laughing, but people were starting to gather now. Connor swore and stood up, reaching for Sumo's leash. The man grabbed his hair and yanked, "where the fuck are you going? The funs just getting started!"
He punched Connor in the stomach, causing him to go down onto his knees. He didn't dare get back up, but it turned out he didn't have to.
"Leave him alone!" A stranger had gotten the police, Connor felt relief when the man was tazed down.
He tried to stand up, but found he couldn't fully straighten. Something was wrong with abdomen. And his chest was still freely bleeding from the wound. His vision had fuzzy static like ends and warnings were showing up displaying all his injuries in big red annoying text boxes. He just wanted to get home and heal up.
Thankfully he knew the cop, so that part was dealt with. But she did say she'd need his statement tomorrow. Fine whatever it takes. Then he wondered how he was supposed to just go home all beaten up.
Oh god, Sumo had almost gotten hurt.
Hank was gonna kill him.
Hank had just started trusting him enough to take Sumo on walks alone and now he almost got Sumo hurt? What was he supposed to do. He stared off towards the ground until Sumo started excessively barking at him. Connor cringed, his aching head not enjoying the stimuli.
He felt even more in pain when Sumo suddenly took off running, dragging him along. "Sumo! What- heel Sumo heel!" But he didn't listen, he had Connor running up and down Detroit until he was in front of a familiar house.
"I...dammit Sumo..." He can't show up to Hank like this especially before he decided on what he was going to say.he tried to think of what to do but all the physical activity had drained a good amount of his thirium. He tried to move, but instead stumbled and fell against the front door. Sumo went ahead without him through the doggy door, Connor could hear things calling down as the leash dragged everything down.
Heavy footsteps ran down the stairs, "what the fuck!? Sumo-? Sumo heel! Stop it god dammit!" The clattering stopped, "what the fuck are you doing. Where's Connor?" Hank took to ranting to himself under his breath while taking off the color and leash. Then he opened up the front door, shocked to find Connor on the other end who nearly fell onto the ground.
"Connor? What the fuck- woah are you ok?" His eyes widened. He took in the stained and ripped hoodie and Connor's busted forehead, bright blue. "Holy shit Connor what the fuck happened."
"I..." Hank would hate him forever. "Hank I need thirium to start healing"
"...uh right..." He stepped aside and helped Connor down to the couch. Then stood up to grab the thirium supply from the bathroom, "should I call a mechanic?"
"I'll go to a walk in tomorrow." Connor stuck his hand in the wound- gross- and started to fix the cut valve himself with duct tape. Turns out that was also a go to solution for androids.
Hank handed him the blood bag and crossed his arms, "What happened? Was it another protestor cuz I'll kick their ass"
He shook his head, frowning at the feeling of pain that went through his head at it. He held onto his forehead where the knee had struck him. The pain was somehow behind his eyes. It made the lights terrible.
Hank frowned and lowered his voice, "you got a headache..? Ah geez kid..."
Connor put his hand over his eyes to lessen the pain light brought him. He listened to the sound of footsteps, a click, more footsteps, the sound of the fridge opening, and then even more footsteps.
Hank gently tapped his shoulder, "here"
Connor looked up, finding the lights were now off. He looked at Hank thankfully, who smiled and handed him an ice pack.
"But Lieutenant I'm not-"
"Trust me it'll help."
Connor shrugged and put it to his forehead. He sighed, nearly melting. He relaxed against the couch, shutting his eyes at the small but much needed relief.
"...Connor you can't just come home looking like shit. What the fuck happened to you?"
Connor groaned and opened one eye, "Hank I don't-"
"If you don't tell me you're not taking Sumo on another walk"
Connor frowned, but it worked. "...I'm so sorry Hank. I let you down-"
"Woah" Hank put his hands up, "where's this coming from?"
"I didn't mean to put Sumo in danger. There was this intoxicated man and he tried to attack Sumo so I shoved him and-"
"What the fuck...?"
"Please don't be mad at me Hank I know I should have better accessed the situation"
"Connor Connor calm down son! Why would I be mad at you that some high asshole beat the shit out of you!"
Connor shook his head, leaning further into the couch. He watched Sumo bite a table leg in the corner of his eye, "I'm an android. I shouldn't have gotten so hurt like that."
"Where is this guy anyway I'll beat the shit out of him myself-"
"Lucy already detained him"
"Oh... well uhm...you feeling ok?"
Connor shook his head, a weird cringe on his face, "I feel...discomfort"
Hank wrapped an arm around him, "it's ok kid" he squeezed his shoulder, "I've got you. Maybe next time I'll go on the walk with you though. Just rest up"

May 3, 1963: In Birmingham, Alabama, city authorities begin to deploy violent force against black protesters.
Fifty-five years ago today, in schools across Jefferson County, Alabama, thousands of students dropped their pencils, laced their shoes, and walked out of their classrooms. Some would march together ten miles, and all were headed for the county seat of Birmingham. For a month, a mass nonviolent campaign against segregation had been underway there, under the cooperative leadership of the local Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
Even among Southern cities, Birmingham was afflicted by a racism so stubborn on the systemic level, and so bitter and violent on the personal, that it was nicknamed ‘Bombingham,’ and it was described as “the most thoroughly segregated city in the United States” by Dr. King. Here there was no pretense of genteel Southern hierarchy. For a month black protestors had gathered at city hall, launched boycotts, organized lunch counter sit-ins, stood in the doorways of white churches. In the course of the demonstrations Martin Luther King, Jr. had been jailed for a week (during which he published his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”).
James Bevel, the SCLC’s direct action mastermind, came up with the idea to organize the children and students of Jefferson County. They came from elementary schools, high schools, and colleges. (The plan was later dubbed the ‘Children’s Crusade’ by Newsweek.) As the students arrived in Birmingham in the direction of City Hall, the hardline segregationist Commissioner of Public Safety, “Bull” Connor, directed police attack dogs, hoses, and mass arrests against the protesters.
The shocking images (people huddled on the ground and against buildings; snarling dogs; cruel water and crueler men) splashed onto the pages of Life and Time, and into the national discourse. The Life magazine spread, famously photographed by Alabama native Charles Moore, depicted the scene in terms at least as explicit as much of mainstream America outside the South had hitherto ever heard.
Its coverage struck a cynical tone: Connor was playing right into the hands of the organizers; a man having his pant leg ripped off by a police dog was “the attention-getting jack pot of… provocation” and a woman knocked down by a “hose blast… like a battering ram” had been struck in the act of “[taunting] the police.” Mobilizing children was low, nearly as low as sending grown men with clubs out to beat them. But people saw, and at least some listened.
On May 4, Burke Marshall, head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division, arrived in Birmingham. Between bad publicity for the city and bad economics for white business leaders, Marshall was sure that they would give a little. The next week, the City of Birmingham agreed to desegregate lunch counters and drinking fountains, and to hire some black employees.
Robert and John F. Kennedy entreated dialogue between the North and South, between black and white. Both publicly lauded Dr. King, but the attorney general also observed: “If King loses… worse leaders are going to take his place. Look at the Black Muslims.” If Americans were fed up with Dr. King’s campaigns and his boycotts and his nonviolence, they would not be able to imagine the alternative. Privately, Robert Kennedy was more critical of the campaign as a whole. “Many in the Negro leadership didn’t know what they were demonstrating about,” Kennedy remarked, and “none of the white community would get near… because they felt that they were being disorderly.” The violence in Birmingham had shocked both Kennedys. Both also feared what else might come - from the whites, but even more from black communities with little faith in white leaders. It seemed to Robert Kennedy that “the Negroes are all mad for no reason at all, and they want to fight.”
In September 1963, for no reason at all, a Ku Klux Klan bomb injured twenty-two churchgoers and killed four girls at the same 16th Street Baptist Church where the Children’s Crusade had gathered. In June 1963, President Kennedy called for legislation that eventually became the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Bristol: 14 people arrested following further 'Kill the Bill' protests
Tumblr media
Police have made 14 arrests following a further “Kill the Bill” protest in Bristol on Tuesday night.
Specially trained public order officers were deployed to College Green, where police said around 200 people had gathered from 4pm.
Footage of the protest showed crowds of people shouting, “our streets” and “shame on you” at lines of police – some on horseback and others with dogs.
The “Kill the Bill” protesters were demonstrating against the government’s Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, which will see the police handed new powers to tackle demonstrations.
It comes just two days after another “Kill the Bill” protest in the city descended into rioting.
Avon and Somerset police said 14 people had been arrested for offences including breaches of COVID-19 legislation and obstruction of a highway.
One of those detained was also arrested for offences connected with the violent disorder in the city on Sunday.
Earlier in the evening, the force said officers had attempted to engage with demonstrators and asked them to move on.
Shortly before 11pm, police said crowds had been moved off College Green but that a “significant number” remained on Deanery Road “and continue to refuse to leave the area”.
About 90 minutes later, police reminded the public that gatherings were not permitted under COVID rules, adding that demonstrators risked “spreading the virus further”.

Chief Superintendent Claire Armes said: “Officers had engaged with protestors and asked them to disperse, but tents and a sound system were set up so it was abundantly clear they were intent on remaining at the location, in spite of legislation in place to protect public health.
“After the scenes of violence witnessed in the city at the weekend it was necessary to bring in additional resources from our neighbouring forces to ensure the protest was safely brought to a swift conclusion.”
She added: “It’s disappointing that officers needed to take this action on a day we should be remembering all those who’ve lost their lives to COVID-19 over the past year.”
Meanwhile, police investigating Sunday’s riot have released images of 10 people they wish to trace.
The violent clashes saw a police station attacked, 21 officers injured and vehicles set alight.

Around 3,000 people attended the peaceful demonstration on College Green but events turned violent after around 500 people descended on the New Bridewell police station.
Detective Chief Superintendent Carolyn Belafonte, of Avon and Somerset Police, said the investigation “will undoubtedly” be one of the largest in the force’s history.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson led the condemnation of the riot describing the scenes as “unacceptable”, while Home Secretary Priti Patel said “thuggery and disorder” would never be tolerated.

Patel condemns ‘appalling criminality’ in Bristol
Bristol mayor Marvin Rees, who said he had “major concerns” about the government’s bill, condemned the thuggery but said the disorder would be used to justify the legislation.
The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill would give the police in England and Wales more power to impose conditions on non-violent protests, including those deemed too noisy or a nuisance.
Those convicted under the proposed legislation could face a fine or jail.
