Surprised that no one is talking about the line, "Together, we will end the chronic disease epidemic and keep our children safe, healthy, and disease-free." from the inauguration speech. On the surface, it sounds like a really good thing! Like, hey we're going to find cures and provide treatments for all these chronic illnesses that people are suffering from!
However, given who's saying it, I'm guessing it's a lot more sinister. Since funding research is expensive and Trump is greedy and also ableist, I'm guessing it's more along the lines of 'chronic illness rates will go down if we don't report them and also if everyone who has one is dead'.
In fact, he's working on this already by
Reversing previously established health care policies, like Medicaid and Medicare prescription caps
Directing health agencies to stop communicating
Those of us with disabilities and chronic illnesses are often very vulnerable financially and in other ways and can be reliant on others for our care. It is hard for us to organize or advocate for ourselves due to our health challenges and restrictions. We're largely out of society's view already.
The continued impact of COVID and the threat of potential future epidemics and pandemics, especially if they're being set up to be mismanaged by the Trump administration, is a huge threat to not only those of us who are already ill, but to everyone. Anyone can become chronically ill, even you.
Anyways, the point is, please don't forget about us. Please include us in your efforts to protect those affected by all of this.
If you, like me, have a chronic illness, disability, mental illness, neurodivergency, or are part of any other vulnerable health-related minority, don't lose hope. There's goodness in the world still and we need to be here to see it and to add to it. It's not easy and it's not going to be easy, but it's important. I love you.

Lil Kalish at HuffPost:
The largest employer health benefits program for the federal government announced Friday that it will no longer cover pediatric transition-related treatment, according to a document obtained by HuffPost. The directive from the U.S. Office of Personnel and Management’s Healthcare and Insurance program comes just days after President Donald Trump signed executive orders directing federally run insurance programs to exclude coverage for gender-affirming care for people under age 19, and defining sex as only either “male or female.” The executive order on “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation” has a specific provision directing OPM to update its benefits program to “exclude coverage for pediatric transgender surgeries or hormone treatments” in its guidance to insurance carriers. OPM, the government agency that acts as human resources for the government, has recently become overtaken by billionaire Elon Musk and many of his close allies. The executive order is expected to affect not only federal workers but agencies across the federal government. It could modify requirements under the Affordable Care Act and bar hospitals that accept Medicare or Medicaid from providing gender-affirming care to patients under 19.
Friday’s directive, which was distributed to health insurance companies that work with the federal government, states that all carriers will now have to comply with the two orders. Previous Federal Employee Health Benefits programs ― including the current plan, which is active through 2025 ― did include coverage for pediatric gender-affirming care. But the document states that the orders now supersede “any previous Carrier Letter with conflicting information.” “Pursuant to the second EO, all Carriers for Plan Year 2026 ‘will exclude coverage for pediatric transgender surgeries or hormone treatments’ for the purpose of gender transition,” the document reads. “OPM recognizes that there are some bona fide medical conditions, such as precocious puberty, or therapy subsequent to a traumatic injury, where hormone treatments for individuals under the age of 19 may be lawfully covered by Carriers.” Gender-affirming care is already difficult for young people to access, and more than half of U.S. states have already enacted bans on such care.
Yet another hateful anti-trans action by Tyrant Trump: 47’s Misadministration blocks gender-affirming care plans for minors under 19 from being covered by federal agencies’ insurance plans to comply with bigoted Executive Order 14187 barring GAC for those under 19.

Spent all day in the hospital and then at priority care with dad. Seven weeks after his leg surgery he’s now got a clot from his thigh to his ankle. It’s awful seeing your parents feel helpless and cry. I tried to lighten the mood and we were joking around and in response to my silly sassy joke he jokingly says “I liked you better when you were a little peanut in the womb!” and I replied “I also liked it better when I was a little peanut in the womb!” and that made him really laugh so job done I guess

Pro tip - all the people yelling about government "waste" are usually looking at people making a living wage working on it and paying out actual claims as the "waste." THAT'S what they cut, so that people like the late and unlamented Brian Thompson could be paid millions of dollars a year to pay techbros for AI that denies 90 percent of claims initially, and puts in policy to code fake HIV diagnoses for UHC's Medicare Advantage plan so they can scam more money while providing no care, and commit securities fraud to steal from pension funds, which is basically fucking retirees over twice.
No insurance company is more virtuous than this either, they just haven't been fucking caught with their hands in the cookie jar as recently. The spotlight on UHC right now just makes for more convenient examples. Don't reward this amoral fuckwaddery with tax dollars. I sure as shit don't intend to.
You know what since I’ve got a ton of new followers because my post on puberty blockers took off and people apparently want to see me rant, I’m gonna get up on my soapbox for a PSA for tumblr’s aging userbase.
Do not! Get! A Medicare Advantage plan!
Tell your parents not to get one. Tell your aunts and uncles not to get one. Tell your friends not to get one.
Why is that, you might say? Kouri, what is a Medicare Advantage plan, you might say?
tl;dr Medicare is the government healthcare plan for Americans of a certain age or with certain disabilities. It is owned, administered, and operated by the government. You are entitled, if you wish, to outsource your Medicare and have your policy run by a commercial group, such as United HealthCare, Cigna, Aetna, et cetera.
Here’s how it works: For everyone who signs up for, say, a plan that rhymes with Figna Medicare Advantage, Medicare gives Figna a certain amount of money and says ‘use this to take care of this patient’.
You can see where this is going, right? Figna says ‘sure boss! *wink nudge*’ and then shoves as much of that money into their own pockets as possible, and they do that by finding excuses to NOT pay for your medical care.
Medicare Advantage plans are pushed and marketed heavily. They’ll call you. They’ll set up stands in your PCP office to try to encourage you to buy in. They will say things like ‘with Medicare, you have to pay a 20% coinsurance, but with us you only have a 10% coinsurance’ and completely neglect to tell you that having a smaller coinsurance only matters if they approve the fucking care that you need, which often they won’t (while Medicare would have) and if your doctors are willing to accept it, which often they don’t (while they do accept Medicare).
Is Medicare perfect? Absolutely not! I've got my share of bones to pick with them. But simply put:
Medicare is government administered. It is a service. It costs the government money, which is why the GOP is always trying to cut funding to it. Medicare Advantage is corporately administered. It is supposed to make money. Which gives them incentives to deny your care and fuck you over that Medicare simply does not have.
Do not. Get. A Medicare Advantage Plan.

there is a bill named the SAVE act which would require americans to provide their birth certificate, passport, or other citizenship documents every time they vote, and would require the last name on their driver’s license to match that of their birth certificate. this would prevent married women who have changed their last name from voting.

the cdc has removed their hiv prevention page.
the united states state department has officially changed its “travelers with special conditions” page which previously said “lgbtqi+ travelers” to “lgb travelers”, completely getting rid of the tqi+.
every single republican told us we were overreacting. trump swore he had nothing to do with project 2025 yet continues implementing details outlined in it. not a single person has the right to tell us we’re being dramatic anymore.
hope “cheaper eggs and gas” was worth it.
EDIT: i removed the “trump refused to swear on the bible” point because it was being taken as me being an offended christian. i’m not christian, im agnostic. the reason i included it in the first place is because he’s the first president in history to ever refuse to swear on ANYTHING. meanwhile his “conservative christian” followers had no issue with this, and decided to continue to scramble for excuses instead of admitting he may not be as religious as he claims he is. i figured taking that point out entirely is probably better than filling this with an explanation in the middle of the other important issues.

Seniors don't trust Republicans. They've already voted in their 2025 budget proposal to CUT Social Security and CUT Medicare.
Don't take my word for it...
Tumblr media
Social Security and Medicare might not be important to you, but I guarantee it's important to someone you know, whether it's your parents, or grandparents, or friends... someone you know relies on that money. Plus, you're paying into those programs with every pay check. That's your money. You will never get that money back.
