ive been rereading your ffxv fic "im trying hard to take it back" for literally four years now. please end my suffering and tell me how gladio feels. please. PLEASE. (but only if u want ofc)

(fic) Short answer: Gladio feels insane guilt and spends a lot of his life trying to make this up to Prompto. In the process, they deepen their connection as friends and do begin a relationship probably around the one-year mark of endless darkness. <3

Longer answer: (implications of abuse/violence tw but no worse than in the fic itself; just what others assume to be true even if it's not in the context of this specific fic)

Gladio is a secret romantic at heart who has always envisioned meeting his soulmate, but he's also duty-bound and duty comes first. So even though he reads romance books (amongst other types of books too) and indulges in his head a bit as many people do, he's often put his duty to the crown first and foremost in his mind. He also didn't imagine his soulmate was anyone on this trip and thought perhaps the person he may have been fated to meet died in the assault of Insomnia. Even if they were a refugee, they can't be a priority to him at this moment. His priority has to be Noctis.

Prompto has obviously grown on him over the course of their road trip, but there are aspects of them that don't 100% mesh (as is true with every realistic relationship). That said, Gladio never in a hundred years would want this moment of (understandable but out of line) frustration and anger in the wake of Luna and Altissa to be a permanent mark on Prompto's face. He's genuinely horrified and disgusted with himself for a long time after this and spends most of his life trying to make it up. He feels like a dirtbag about it.

That said, Prompto runs away from him in this moment and they need time to calm down, just as the fic shows. Noctis goes after Prompto, just like in canon. Prompto falls off the train and has his Despair Arc just like in the DLC, now with the added despair of "well, in addition to being a clone, my soulmate hates me. And in addition to the mark of inhumanity on my wrist (barcode), I have a giant hand print of him literally Shoving Me Away on my face. Forever."

Aranea: Well, do you want to die about it. Or do you want to live.

Prompto, eventually like in canon: Live, I guess. But it will be excruciating.

Aranea: That's what living is. We do it anyway. Your friends love you. Get off the floor.

He fights his way through his issues and gets rescued like in canon. Gladio probably tries to talk to him when they all catch up again, trying to apologize, and Prompto tells him to hold off on that for later.

Then, of course, Noctis is eaten by the crystal and "later" becomes much, much later as they evacuate and try to survive in eternal darkness. (Though they also can't Not think about it because it's a giant hand print. On Prompto's face. And every person they meet has Something To Say about it, for better or worse, whether they knew Prompto before or not. Prompto cannot escape it, and when Gladio is not doing Crown Duties he feels he must do in Noct's absence, he's with Prompto, so he also Cannot Escape It either. Even when the person speaking is unaware that Gladio left that mark. It's almost worse when they don't know, but when they see it's Gladio, who is such a big guy who seemingly hit Prompto and left that permanent mark there, some of them get nasty to him and some back off out of fear. Both are horrible. The guilt is eating him alive.)

Eventually, enough time passes as the dust settles that they do Talk About It. Gladio apologizes sincerely, for the 500th time. Prompto's like, "Well. It's not like you could have known that this would be The One Time it happened." And then cracks a joke about their soulmate mark being a Prompto's hand print on Gladio's ass from a butt slap in another life, which does help the tension somewhat. (The more Gladio tries to apologize, the more Prompto grows sick of hearing it, so they just have to move on and keep going, as he's learned to do.)

They grow closer over time, especially because there's not a lot of people who have survived to this point and even less later on. They do get together romantically, both because they do like the idea of soulmates (for different reasons) and also because they're living out of each others pockets for years, so there's an affection and dependency that develops there. Also, teenage Prompto always thought Gladio was really handsome and teen Gladio thought Prompto was cute and sincere for a pipsqueak.

When they are out together on dates in normal settings surrounded by strangers after the light returns, Gladio will receive dirty looks for the rest of his life from strangers who see the hand print on Prompto's face and immediately (correctly) assumes it was out of anger rather than a funny accident or something. (Edit: Some people will assume there is a funny story attached. Gladio will not know what to say to this. Prompto will play along.) He will learn to live with this. Prompto is really grateful Gladio is with him despite everything.

In honour of Prompto Argetum’s birthday have a few fun head canons of the boy (promptis. Don’t like don’t read. You know the drill.):

He’s VERY fond of strawberry Mochi

When Noctis takes the vegetables out of his food, Prompto will start moving them onto his own plate. Food is good and Prompto will eat whatever’s going.

He’s naturally cuddly, and gravitates towards heat sources in his sleep. Noctis would not mind this if it were not for the fact that Prompto has the core temperature of a polar ice cap.

Prompto’s entire speech pattern is comprised of movie quotes and song lyrics (I feel like that one’s just cannon at this point.)

He gets really sweet when he’s sleepy. Rubs his eyes, puts his head on peoples shoulders. There’s always a point at which someone will teasingly say “are you tired Prompto?” And all they will get is a sleepy nod before Prompto curls into whoever’s shoulder he’s decided to commandeer as a pillow.

The hair style was an accidental choice. He did it for a party; Noctis said he liked it; now it stays.

He’s a big fan of hair playing and scalp scritches. 10/10 will do tricks for scritches.

He’s got a favourite camp chair. He’s convinced it’s magical, because apparently whenever he sits in it campfire smoke never follows him. It’s not Gladio just can’t be arsed hearing him whine all night about the smoke so he places Prompto’s chair against the wind.

Prompto kissed Noct first. It was spur of the moment and he’s pretty sure he blacked out from panic during it but Noctis just looked so pretty, and UGHHHH.

Their first date was low key a disaster, because Prompto tried to be smooth and ended up just being clumsily tripping head first in the castle fountain. BUT, Noctis laughed and kissed him again so he will sheepishly classify it as a win!

“Ever at your side” is Prompto’s “as you wish” it’s his I love you when I love you doesn’t feel like it’s enough.

There are too many pictures of Noct of Proms camera honestly. Noctis looks cute while he’s sleeping? *click* Noctis laughs at Iggys horrible dad jokes? *click* candid moments watching the sun set? *click* gross double chin close ups? *click* intimate moments with permission to take a photo? *click* Noctis stupidly assumes the camera battery is dead and lets his guard down? *click* Noctis is failing to use chop sticks while eating instant Raman in the snow? *click* honestly he has a problem.

FFXV Fic Recommendations

Hello! I thought I’d share some of my favorite fics from my most favorite game. Will update with more when I read more. Thank you!

Set Thy Hidden Stars On Fire by MYuzuki (16k words)

This time, when Prompto wakes up to start a new loop, it’s raining.

Normally, this wouldn’t be a cause for concern (or even a blip on his radar, really) but this time he wakes up outside for some reason, which means he’s in the rain.

And as his luck would have it, it’s something of a downpour.

If you love Prompto, you’ll love this fic. It’s relatively short, but managed to have me still think about it nearly a year after reading. MYuzuki is a great author!

Salvation by cassisluna (11k words)

Nyx Ulric lives and accompanies Lunafreya across Lucis to wake the six. Written for the 2021 FFXV Reverse Bang.

As she travels to wake Titan and Ramuh, Luna is grateful for the time given to her to see the land of Lucis with her own eyes and feet.

Nyx promised the King that he would see Princess Lunafreya to Altissia, and it seems easy enough—until he learns the Oracle's price for forging the covenants. After that, it's just a matter of... maybe going off-route for a while to let the princess sight-see for a bit.

I love anything that expands upon Lunafreya’s character or Kingsglaive. This fic did not disappoint with that at all.

Worth The Risk by Asidian (6k words)

It's captivating. Prompto's probably going to have thirty-eight photos of it for them to relive the experience, in vivid detail, later on.

But Prompto's not taking pictures anymore, Noct realizes. The camera's stopped.

And when Noctis looks over to see what the matter is, Prompto's just staring through the view-finder, head angled up. He's gone absolutely sheet-white – looks like he might pass out. He says, "Noct," very softly, like it's a plea.

Then the world explodes, and something slams into Noctis with the force of a subway train, and everything goes dark.

I adore Asidian’s writing, especially for Prompto. This, and any of their other fics you should absolutely check out!

Honor Bound by The_Asset6 (125k words)

It’s still hard for Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto to believe that Noctis has been gone for a year. However, when an old ally appears to tell them that what is gone might not be lost after all, that spark of hope they kept alive during their ten years apart is rekindled. Their only question: what will they have to sacrifice this time in order to bring their brother back alive?

This fic focuses more on the bros rather than Noctis himself, and it was really nice to see from their POV how far they’d go to get Noct back. A longer read but didn’t drag, great fic!

Somnus Ultima by The_Asset6 (349k words)

King Regis and Queen Aulea’s desire for a child has finally been fulfilled, as well as their kingdom’s need for an heir to the throne. However, when a dark mage with a vendetta against Lucis blesses the young prince with a deadly curse, they realize that no sacrifice is too much when it comes to someone you love.

But too much, it turns out, is never enough.

A sleeping beauty AU! I won’t lie, this one is long, but it’s so worth it. I don’t typically like AU fics, preferring canon-compliant work, but I gave this one a chance and didn’t regret it. The author made great use of the characters and created a lengthy but not hard to read story that was very enjoyable.

"Where are you?"

Noct. Voice controlled, each word precise and even. In other words, pissed off to the point of seething. Prompto had obviously screwed up. Again. Seemed about all he was capable of doing lately when it came to Noct—and just about everything else.

It’s a shared headcanon for both Noctis/Prompto and Noctis/Ignis, but whenever I envision them getting together pre-game time, I always imagine they have a very quiet, very frank breakup when they get news of the treaty terms. Like—yeah, of course it hurts, but also, the good of the kingdom absolutely outweighs their romantic feelings, of course they’re going to break up with as little fuss about it as they can manage.

Currently thinking of AU’s where Prompto is a Prince of Niflheim. And technically of Lucis. But doesn’t know.

Iedolas’ wife died after giving birth to her son. He never remarried (and arguably, it’s at this most vulnerable point in his life that everything regarding Niflheim takes a downward spiral).

So, obviously there’s going to be sole concern over what would happen if the Only Heir to the throne tragically died or never got married, or had children of his own, etc etc.

(In Dawn of the Future, he had Solara - but I’m pretty sure the Prince was never mentioned in-game?)

And then there’s Besithia. With his cloning tech and research over transporting his consciousness into machinery all Otto Apocalypse style.

Honestly my two thoughts are of Prompto being a clone of Niflheim’s unnamed prince, or literally being said prince’s twin or something being put in a stasis tube [in case of emergencies].

Naturally, this gets spliced with additional DNA of a certain ‘man of no consequence’ in a bid to create a ‘perfect’ heir - one that could even bring Lucis to heel.

Fight fire with fire and all that.

All similarities to Besithia end up because Besithia is somewhat related (close or distantly, who knows) to Iedolas’ late wife. Part of the reason he has Imperial Favor in all his unethical shady experiments.

I have so many plot bunnies about this au.

Maybe the late Empress was related to the Fleuret’s somewhat distantly and this is part of the reason they had a somewhat low level of autonomy (up until the burning’s), so technically he gets Fleuret powers too - and, in a really really really far out and distant way, Prompto is technically the son of Aera and Ardyn.

Or, on the other hand, No Prophecy AU where someone sees Prompto with Noctis on some of the few pieces of news that leave Insomnia - or maybe a spy, who knows? And this makes its way to Niflheim because, hey - we could use this kid against Lucis, he’s a friend to the Prince

And it’s just. Iedolas’ son. Or Ardyn’s, depending on the route you want to take.

There was also the thought of Prompto resembling the late Empress while the imperial suite is there in talks of peace and the emperor sees him, like he looks quite similar to - wait, wait a moment.

I HAVE BRAINROT I CANT PUT INTO WORDS.

This would, of course, make the kidnapping of Baby Prompto from Niflheim a far bigger deal (in very secret, confidential circles) than it seemed to be in canon.

And deal with a fleshing out of Iedolas’ character that we never really got canon-wise, because…by the time of canon, he’s gone nuts. Under the sway of Ardyn and the scourge - because we see just how badly Ardyn can fuck with people’s heads - Etc.

Plus, Ardyn’s character because - how does he see Prompto, provided he did give his DNA to be used (or if, you know, Besithia just took it) in cases of Prompto being a clone using a myriad of dna samples?

Then there’s Regis. The Father.

Prompto is Noctis’ best friend, his brother (or boyfriend, because they do make a very cute couple, I will Fight for that). Who spends a lot of time around Noctis.

This boy is pretty much Regis’ second son already, whether he’s dating Noctis or not, in my head. There’s also Cor, who baby-snatched him.

Imagine the ensuing custody battles.

Prompto is still new to the Crownsguard, which means he's not used to the long hours of standing still that come with the job.  So far he's taken two shifts standing guard for meetings, and he has to play little games in his head to keep from getting too bored to pay attention to possible threats.  How many different ways could an enemy get into the room?  How many things can he see that are purple?  Anything to keep his brain occupied.  Today, he thought it would be easy, since he's been assigned to guard Noct's while Noct is in the Citadel between meetings.  Unfortunately, while he imagined he might be just hanging out with Noct in his room, Prompto's boss was extremely clear that his job is to stand outside the door at attention, and only go in if there's a problem.  Besides, Noct has a giant pile of paperwork he's supposed to be reading, and even Prompto knows that if he goes in there Noct's gonna stop reading and play video games instead.

Out of curiosity - you've written Dreams au for Prompto and Ardyn kickstarting the Reunion, plus the Gladio version that became canon.

But what about Ignis? How would the verse where he finds Noctis first look like?

Not gonna lie. This one had me stumped. I never considered that Ignis might be the first to find Noctis (my mistake) and so didn't even have an incling about how it might happen. Until about half an hour ago, that is, when an idea fell from the sky. Or my shower head. Depending on the point of view.

(I wrote this really fast, so it doesn't fit stylistically into the Deep City verse. When I have time, I'll try to write a 'proper' version.)

You could say this starts around Noctis's 17th birthday. Ignis hasn't been doing well. Not at all. His friendship with Gladio is splintering like rotten wood and his uncle as been... distant lately.

Ignis does his best to bury his worries with work, but that's only helping so much. What with his work now being a glorified secretary for whatever ministry, board or committee will have him at the time. Still, Ignis does his best. What else can he do?

So, that one fateful day, on Noctis's 17th birthday, when the hurt is rubbed fresh and raw again and there is no work for him to do...

Ignis bakes.

He tries, once again his best, to recreate that one sweet pastry from Tenebrae Noctis liked so much and Ignis could never get right. Once he's done, he goes outside and somehow finds himself in a park in a working class area. Later, he will think is has been fate.

Right now, he doesn't care, strangely glad for being outside his usual haunts, and unpacks the pastries he has brought.

Their taste is warm and creamy and so sweet Ignis can practically feel his teeth rotting in his mouth. Was that the right taste? he wonders and hates that he will not get an answer.

"Yer usin' the wrong types of berry," an old, creaky voice says behind him.

Ignis whirls around and whom he finds fits the voice very well. It's an old woman, bent and with wrinkles deeper than he has ever seen. Her hands are bony and full of spots. Her dress looks more like it's been made from patches than proper fabric. The smell of freshly baked bread hits Ignis's nose.

"Excuse me?" he asks.

"Tha' pastry o' yer's," she says in the strangest accent Ignis has ever heard. "Them berries're too sweet. Yer'll need them from northern Ulwaat. T's colder there, so they need ta be more hardy. 'Too sweet' tha' prince o' yers would say."

Ignis feels ice cold dread creep up his spine. Does this woman know Noctis? Does she have soemthing to do with his disappearance?

"Now, now laddie. Get those thoughts outta yer head. Ah'm simply following the fire to where it'll lead me."

"What...?"

"Fire, laddie. It knows ye got to play a part in the storm ta come, and it likes ye. So Ah'll make sure ye know wha' ta do once the time is right."

"I'm afraid I do not know what you are talking about, Maselle. Excuse me, I have work to do."

Ignis turns around, intend to leave the obviously mentally unstable old crone behind him, but her next words make him stop.

"None o' tha', Ignis Scientia. There's no work waitin' for ye today. Yer uncle is teachin' yer cousin Paxil in the hopes he'll not be a disappointment, an' yer friend'll not get a diagnosis fer his sister t'day."

Slowly Ignis turns around. "Are you threatening me?" he asks, low and dangerous. One hand his inconspicuously reaching for the dagger he never goes without these days.

"Ye can leave tha' dagger where it is, laddie. Ah'm not threatening ye, simply sayin' things how they are."

"How do you know all this?" Ignis finds himself asking through the fog in his mind.

"The fire, laddie. Once ye know how ta listen, it'll never stop tellin' ye things," the crone says and waves her hand in a way that makes it clear that she wishes for him to follow. "Come," she says. "Ah'll show ye."

And against his better judgement - and the usually so large, but now tiny rational voice in his head baring warnings at him - he follows.

Nearly three years later, he stares at the fire burning between his fingers, and follows it's call deep into the ancient bowels of the city.

How did you get involved in your latest fandom? well, i was SUPER into the vampire chronicles as a young teen but i basically read iwtv -> TVA -> blood & gold and then stopped, cos i was mostly HUGELY into Armand and then Marius, and less bothered about the rest. then when iwtv (tv) came out, i was HUGELY into it, but i wasn't back on tumblr back then so i just kinda squeed in my own head? so when i found out s2 was airing (i'd missed like 3 eps i think??) i just finally got into the fandom proper! and having Armand there now just gave me all the impetus i needed to start making things heh. god i love him so much... needless to say young teen me HATED the casting choice from the original film LOL

So. Fictional Romantic vs Platonic relationships.

I was not gonna post bc it had been a while since seeing Discours(TM) on the topic but then another post reminded me of it (like it wasn't a discourse post but it sparked the Memory) and I was about to put a long-ass string of tags and went. nah. I'll just do this.

For The Record this is not a bash against any interpretation. Wish I didn't have to state but this is Tumblr lmao.

Anyway most of the time I do see actual Discours(TM) on the topic has like, the people who want more platonic relationships be annoyed that fandom very very often goes for romance and say they feel unwelcome or at least un-represented in fandom, to which the ones who prefer romance say that no, there's Friendship everywhere, just look at all the buddy cop plots etc., you have enough.

Not to go "both sides" here but - Both are right.

Especially with two men, which is a lot of fandom main ships, there are a ton of stories that feature a Close Male Friendship. Greg House and Wilson from House MD, Riku and Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Dean and Cas from Supernatural, all four guys from Final Fantasy XV, the list goes on. "Two Boys/Men Who Are Best Friends" is a very, very common group of main characters.

In canon.

Because as soon as you leave canon and check out canon, well... At a quick glance at AO3 stats, there's about four to nine times as much ship content than platonic content (3,400 vs 600; 4,000 vs 950; 115,000 vs 12,500; 5800 vs 970 [Only checking Prompto x Noctis because I'm not gonna check all permutations of this and they're the most popular ship]).

Yes, canon is severely lacking in queer ships most of the time, while friendship is often a big focus. And also, fandom is somewhat lacking in platonic stories while ships are often a big focus.

So, yeah, it can be frustrating to join a fandom where you love a canon friendship and just get "Oh the way they're looking at each other here, they're so in love! Oh I bet they kissed after that scene! Oh I'm sure they'll marry after canon!". It is, of course, also frustrating how rarely we get to see any queer kisses on TV (or books etc pp). Who is more likely to hurt the other?

Not on purpose, mind you, but Ignis would absolutely hurt Prompto more. Ignis is similar to Gladio, in that he's the blunt 'reminder of reality,' which can, oftentimes, come across as uncaring and harsh. He wouldn't MEAN to hurt Prompto, but there are a lot of times he may unintentionally shoot down that sunshiny demeanor and cast a cloud over it, and there would be many more occasions where he would have to put Noctis first and, to some extent, neglect Prompto. It's a lot of the reason why Ignis is so hesitant to get into a relationship; Noctis comes first, no matter what, and in past romantic pursuits, this HAS raised several issues.

Who is emotionally stronger?

Ignis. You have to be as advisor to the future king. In fact, Ignis struggles to show emotion, in general, because he's been taught, in a way, that weakness and vulnerability impose upon his ability to do his job.

Who is physically stronger?

Ignis. Prompto is definitely strong in his own right, but Ignis was trained since he was a little kid to prepare him for his role as the heir apparent's advisor. There aren't many who can trump him in a fight,

Who is more likely to break a bone? 

Prompto, haha. Dude is, without a doubt, more accident prone than Ignis.

Who knows best what to say to upset the other? 

I think this is where Prompto would shine. Ignis approaches most situations with logic, whereas Prompto feels with his heart more than his head. Logic is great in some situations, but not all; sometimes, someone may just need a hug, or the right words to pick themselves back up and press on, and Prompto has always been the 'optimistic sunshine' of the group.

Who is most likely to apologize first after an argument? 

I'd say both! Neither of them wants to do wrong, and they're mature enough to realize when they have.

Who treats who’s wounds more often? 

Ignis treats Prompto's wounds. He's the healer of the group for a reason.

Who is in constant need of comfort? 

Prompto. Ignis doesn't seek it; he was trained to handle matters on his own without seeking comfort but Prompto (especially after THAT PART OF THE GAME) needs more validation.

Who gets more jealous? 

Prompto. He's shown to have more doubts than Ignis, and worries about his place in both their group and the world itself, so I can see those uncertainties rearing their ugly head in certain moments.

Who’s most likely to walk out on the other? 

I dunno, this one is tough. I think Ignis would probably up and leave first? I feel like Prompto would be the one who would fight for their relationship more, and Ignis would just deem it easier to call it quits if Prompto is the unhappy one.

Who will propose? 

I could see either of them doing it! Or... WANTING to do it, but I think Prompto would seize the opportunity before Ignis.

Who has the most difficult parents?

Canon wise, Prompto, the poor guy. :/ Even outside of the LITTLE we got in regards to Ignis' family, Verstael was... UGH. If we're talkin' my personal backstory for Ignis, then Prompto still takes the crown, but Ignis does become somewhat of a decent contender.

Who initiates hand-holding when they’re out in public? 

100% Prompto. He's definitely going to end up being the more affectionate one between the two of them, even after they've been together for years and years and years. Ignis just tends to be more private and reserved, especially in public, but as he gets more comfortable with the relationship, he'll return Prompto's affections more and more frequently, and initiate it more, too.

Who hogs the blankets? 

Prompto, haha. Ignis is the most orderly, unmoving sleeper in the world. He'd let it happen, too.

Who gets more sad? 

Prompto. Ignis definitely gets sad, but he swallows it down like it's soup and puts on a stone mask. Prompto feels a lot more than Ignis does.

Who is better at cheering the other up? 

Prompto. Mr. Ball of Sunshine right there~

Who’s the one that playfully slaps the other all the time after they make silly jokes?

Oh my gosh, 100% Prompto. If Ignis EVER did something like that, the world itself would end.

Prompto, just from experience alone. Ignis was raised in a very strict, culturally limited bubble, so his 'street smarts' are a bit... lacking.

Ignis! Has to be. Ya don't get to be the Advisor of the Heir Apparent without being INSANELY wise.

Prompto. Ignis isn't 'shy,' he's just a bit... socially awkward.

Currently I'm mostly only writing for Rise of the TMNT, but I have written a lot for One Piece and Free!, as well as Twisted Wonderland, Persona 5, Fire Emblem 3 Houses, FFXV, KnB, and others.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably this old fic where Sanji just dies in the end, but I think I have fics that are angstier in the middle even if they end better. For something that's not just the character dying, probably Herbal Tea (ROTTMNT), or maybe Failures and Heroes (You and Me) (ROTTMNT)

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my fics have happy endings so this is hard! Probably a tie between Tight Fit and IMBI, since those have their central characters going through pure hell but getting all kinds of love in the end (including romantic love in Prompto's case).

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Once. This is the hazard of writing AkeShu (P5) lmao.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOY I sure do. I write all kinds of smut, including a few gross kinks most people put in their hard nos. If you're poking around in my full fic list proceed with caution. Lately since I've been writing so much ROTTMNT I haven't been writing smut, though, since I'm more into the canon for the fluff and family feels. The last smut fic I wrote was The Appearance of Impropriety (FE3H), which is a Dimitri/Edelgard/Hubert threesome. And before that, it was a TWST AzuJami fic that, well, took advantage of Azul's octopus anatomy, if you get what I'm sayin'.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I haven't really written fandom crossovers since I was a teenager and tbh I don't remember much about them, I think they were more crackfics than anything serious. I have written several AUs that use other fandoms, though. Probably the weirdest one I've actually written is a Free! RinRei Dragon Age AU, where Rin is a templar and Rei is a mage (the forbidden love of it all). I also have waaaay too many ideas in my head for an ROTTMNT FFX AU where Mikey is a summoner.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I remember back in my FFN days I would occasionally search up my fics and find them c/ped to random clickbait sites, probably as a bot scrapping operation. But to my knowledge I've never actually had anyone take one of my fics and claim it as theirs. Even that bot reposting still had my username attached lol

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yep! The fabulous @e-turn has translated several of my ROTTMNT fics into Russian! I've had other requests before, too, but I'm not sure how far those went. If anyone does want to translate my works, feel free! Just be sure you're crediting me, and if it's going on AO3 be sure to link the original!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have done some co-writing and some fic round robin events but none of them ever got to the point where they actually got published, because someone would flake out or we would just lose steam. I might be up for it, if it were a project we were both really invested in, but I'd probably have to be friends with the co-writer first.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

MMM this is hard... probably RinRei from Free! I've never felt quite as intensely about a ship as I did that one.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Hold On To Me (KnB); I love it but I am so far out of KnB fandom at this point haha.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Character voice, I think; it's what I usually get compliments on and what I feel the best writing. In a way, fanfiction (and fandom RP) has really helped me think about characterization. Something I was certainly guilty of in my younger days (and that a lot of amateur writers are guilty of) was having my characters act as vehicles for plot, doing or saying whatever I needed them to in the moment to move the plot where it needed to go. This meant none of my characters had any kind of consistent characterization and all of them were samey. We joke about "he wouldn't fucking say that," but in a funny way this kind of thinking really got me to think about characterization and character agency. Before I would say, "we need to get from point A to point B, so let's do that." After trying to get into the groove of writing already strongly characterized characters, and please an audience with certain expectations, I found myself thinking really hard about what would motivate a character from point A to point B, and if the circumstances I'd set up weren't enough to cause that, I'd need to tweak them, or better yet, explore what I think the character WOULD actually do in that scenario (which may be more fun anyway). This is a skill I think fanfiction is great for helping new writers develop.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I wish I had stronger word choice at times, and had stronger imagery. I'll read lines in other people's work that just blow me away haha. I could never write so poetically, I think.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

If you are good at a language, or have someone fluent helping you out, then go for it. There's no reason any work needs to be written in only one language. I'm not a purist on this. That said I also think writing "he said in Spanish" or something like that is fine. If it serves your purposes better for your fic to all be in one language, or you aren't confident enough to write in a different language, then you can just make it clear to your audience that a different language is being spoken now. Especially because I come from a lot of anime fandoms, I'm used to there being a sort of unspoken understanding that the characters are not speaking English and what we're getting is just the English approximation/localization of what they're saying. So this doesn't bother me. And of course, throwing in random Japanese exclamations in an otherwise English language fic always comes off a bit campy. I do think it's fine for things like terms of address and nicknames, though. I've never really gotten the hubbub over not having honorifics like "-san" or "-chan" in fics because the same people who usually hate that are also fine with "Señor" or "Mademoiselle" in writing and, like, what's the difference? Idk if any of what I said answers the question. My thoughts are that it's variable, ig.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Technically it was for the book Alas, Babylon, and it was a class assignment in 9th grade English.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Ah this is hard... IMBI is my longest fic and I'm really proud of how it turned out, but I think I'll always have a soft spot for I Keep on Hopin' (We'll Eat Cake by the Ocean) (TWST) - warning that this fic is NSFW and has explicit smut.

minor vent tw.

i'm honestly really afraid of adding my canon final fantasy muses, like prompto and cid and so forth. lately, it seems like not a lot of people want to "play" with my other non canon muses, oc or fankid or anything like that. it feels a little unnerving, and it's giving me flashbacks of the times where i was really unhappy in multiple fandoms, no matter how famous i ended up being. i was really famous, well known, and people loved my writing.

but it fell apart when i made a canon character my own. deviated, went off course, did something i wanted to do. i was on a pedastal - a pillar where if i stepped off, i fell through the ground and into "hell" so to speak.

and i don't want that to happen again. maybe it's in my head.

maybe it's hell week clouding my judgement.

who knows. i'm just gonna hesitate a little bit and enjoy the games i want to enjoy before thinking of adding my old as fuck muses, like prompto and cid. nod nod. this is good energy.

Prompto post-canon calendar change

This description alone has me curious!

It started as a sprint event prompt in the FFXV Book Club discord that I haven't touched since then. Have a snippet!

Sania Yeagre is the first person to point out the anomaly, though it is some weeks after the funeral. While Lestallum spent the years of darkness struggling to keep track of its own clock and calendar, a few people, like Sania, actually tried to keep track of things beyond Eos. “We’ve checked multiple times,” she says and taps the top of the report for emphasis. Prompto thinks he’s pretty good at, like, tech stuff, but microbiology—and, in this case, celestial mechanics (maybe? should he ask? does it matter? he’s better with gears and metal and wires, not space stuff)—is not his strong point. “With the exception of the Dawn, the sun rises and sets more or less at expected times. Well within what we’re capable of forecasting.” Capable of forecasting based on what skills the survivors have. Humanity retained and lost a lot of knowledge in weird, nonsensical chunks. And what specialized knowledge they do have isn’t all that widespread unless it had something to do with survival and sustaining the five-thousand-odd remnants of the world. Prompto’s guessing that either they don’t have anyone who knows off the top of their head how to calculate when sun is supposed to rise and set or else the person is being put to better use on the reconstruction. “Okay, so what’s the problem, then?” That first night after the Dawn, Prompto’s pretty sure no one on Eos slept until the sun rose again. He sure didn’t, but he was more occupied with sorting out what to do with Noct’s— Sania reaches out and flips the report to another page. There’s a diagram of the solar system. “While it’s a little difficult to be certain due to the collapse, we thought our calendars were accurate within two to three days. We ought to be at the very end of fall right now, but based on the positioning of the stars, we’re at the beginning of spring.”

i love you and all of your writing but yandere prompto is such a foreign concept to me, and one that i’m curious to understand how you see it. to me, he is too sensitive, too worried about how people might perceive him in a negative way, too concerned about hurting the people he loves. even if it were unintentional, i still can’t imagine him not backing down immediately after his partner expresses even the slightest amount of discomfort. i also recognize that fics are just for fun but i usually completely get the characterization choices in your writing, and yandere prompto is just one i do not understand in the slightest! i hope this message doesn’t come off as mean, i truly do love your work! i’d just love to hear your thoughts on this

Yeah you have a point, it is a bit of a stretch. For me, yandere and dark stuff is always a little bit OOC, and Prompto has just enough trauma for me to kinda justify it in my head. Basically, I took his abandonment issues and inferiority complex and went a bit wild, like if he never addressed those problems and they combined with the intensity of this hyperfixated love and idolization he has for reader and then instead of trying to work on that in a healthy way, he chooses the nuclear route at the first sign of losing you.

Buuuut! I acknowledge that it doesn't mesh with canon Prompto, I simply cannot help myself from getting my grubby little hands on the pretty boys and ruining them for my own perversions.

So a while back you had your "Like a Lamp In A Bomb Shelter" Verse, where someone reincarnated and published a book based on Noctis' journey. I wrote this a while back and I don't think I sent you this? ...probably not, considering it's unfinished.

Anywhere, here you go:

Gladio’s eyes narrowed as he continued reading, often skipping entire pages. Eventually he stopped at the beginning of one of the later chapters.

“Hey Ignis, read this”

“And why should I read your choice in romance novels?”

“First of all, not everything I read is a romance,” Gladio defended himself, ”Second of all, does this seem familiar to you?”

Ignis raised an eyebrow but accepted the book and began skimming through the chapter. Closing the book he ignored Gladio’s squawk and frowned. Ignis tapped the book cover in contemplation.

“This describes almost exactly what happened in Altissia.”

“Yeah, I thought so too.”

-Something-

“The only question would be how the author got this information.”

//AND SINCE A THROWAWAY COMMENT GOT THIS STUCK IN MY HEAD//

(Said throwaway comment being that Prometheus looked like a mix of Ardyn and Regis)

“Chancellor/Ardyn,” Prompto asked, “Do you know if Besithia ever took any DNA samples of you?”

“Not that I am aware of,” he answered, raising an eyebrow.

Gladio did not like where this was going.

“Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t he look a lot like a mix of you and King Regis?”, he pointed out.

-Ardyn and Regis (plus others?) leave-

“If he is a clone, why wasn’t he around before we went back in time?”

“I mean, time travel is going to have some consequences, right? Who’s to say our way back didn’t cause some kind of ripple effect?”

“Ripple effect?”

“Yeah, like excess magic making sure someone survives something they didn’t before.”

“You might be right, but that doesn’t explain his existence.”

-A Pause-

“I mean, it didn’t have to be Besithia? He had assistants, didn’t he? They might have tried to emulate him, and if they had  managed to create a Lucis Caelum clone,they would have waited to make sure they were viable right? Viable as in, had magic”

“So you’re saying that if we hadn’t gone back in time- something that would definitely have a massive magical discharge and ripple effect- this person, Prometheus, would have died. Either from deranged scientists or whatever else this world had to throw at him.”

“Yep.”

“You do realise that if he does turn out to be a clone of the two they’re going to be ridiculously protective? If not outright possessive?”

“...Yes, I am aware.”

“This is going to be a disaster, isn’t it?”

“Quite possibly.”

“Will the empire be standing by the end of this?”

“That depends entirely on their science departments.”

“...Niflheim is doomed.”

Prometheus being a clone isn't canon to the verse but gods wouldnt it be fucking funny.

Prometheus is doing fine. Sure he's stuck with a guard and has to take weekly trips to the Citadel so people can make sure that he's not using his knowledge for evil as it were but things could be worse!

He could be dead for one! He's alive so that's a bonus all on it's own. It doesn't look like Ardyn is going to plunge the world into eternal night either so that's another bonus!

What isn't a bonus is the fact that Prometheus gets called to Regis' office at nine a.m. without reason. When Prometheus arrives he blinks at the sullen almost angry atmosphere he steps into.

"Uh, did I miss something?" Prometheus asks as he hesitantly sits down in front of Regis. Ardyn is standing to the other side of the King and Clarus takes up the space by the door.

This does not look promising.

"Do you know who your parents are?" A straightforward question. One Prometheus has answered before.

"I told you who they were already," Prometheus says, "What's this about?"

Before Regis can continue Ardyn reaches out with his magic and something in Prometheus crumples like the walls of a great city. There is nothing but light and pain for several moments before he comes back to himself.

He fell out of the chair, that's embarrassing. No more embarrassing than choking back sobs as what feels like sunfire races through your veins but still embarrassing enough.

"What the fuck?" Prometheus manages to get out before his arms fail him and he falls from a kneeling position, were it not for Ardyn catching him Prometheus is certain he would have faceplanted onto the floor.

Ardyn is bright. Mired but dark and sickness but still bright enough he shines despite the dark. He is bright and his magic curls around Prometheus with something possessive in it.

Prometheus lets out one last curse before he faints.

Regis does not tell Ardyn that Ardyn should go and wreak devastation across the Empire.

Ardyn does so anyway.
