The E PERFORMANCE hybrid drive of the Mercedes-AMG ONE comes directly from Formula 1 and has been realised in close cooperation with the experts at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth.

It consists of a highly integrated and intelligently networked unit comprising one hybrid, turbocharged combustion engine with a total of four electric motors. One has been integrated into the turbocharger, another has been installed directly on the combustion engine with a link to the crankcase and the two remaining motors drive the front wheels.

The high-revving power unit is boosted by a high-tech turbocharger. The exhaust gas turbine and compressor turbine are positioned at a distance from each other and connected by a shaft. This allows a lower installation position for the turbocharger.

On the shaft is an approx. 90 kW electric motor. Electronically controlled, this drives the turbocharger shaft directly, accelerating the compressor wheel up to 100,000 rpm before the exhaust gas flow takes over. The Formula 1 designation for this unit is MGU-H (Motor Generator Unit Heat).

Experimenting with Typographic Shaping - ISTD Project

One of the key points that was mentioned in the ‘Spaces Between’ brief was the idea of considering “movement, interaction, reader behaviours and experiences.” This means taking into consideration of the metaphorical and physical concept of spaces between language and accents. So in order to make my one-word dictionary an experience that makes the reader intrigued my the design choices and aesthetics, I thought about the experimentation of editing my header/title of the book by changing the positioning of anchor points in the typeface ‘Compacta.’ Changing the shape and size of the letters will bring an immersive, yet unusual approach to typography and the main subject. 

On Illustrator, I typed the word ‘yout’ on an art-board and expanded the type so that it became a solid shape. Then, I used the direct selection tool to move and drag the anchor points. From there I played with different parts of the letters: such as drawing down the arm of the ‘T’, the descender on the letter ‘Y’, and the bowl of the ‘O.’ 

The intention of this experiment was to create different shapes letters for the same word so that it brings a sense of curiosity to the reader by reflecting on the design of the typography; making them read the dictionary for a longer amount of time. It will also help to give an identity to the definitions of the word.
