i am once again procrastinating my bedtime but i just realised that i never had my final thoughts on the whispering skull! i finished it like a week ago or something. assorted ramblings under the cut

george faking his death by looking into the mirror at the end there got me REAL good. poor eyesight W lmaooo. i am so so so glad lucy made the only smart move possible -- im giving her this position over winkman bc though he was smartER about it than most everyone else it was just base profiteering on his part, which simply endangered someone else further down the line -- in relation to the mirror and smashed its shit in. megacursed mirror deliberately made out of seven ghosts that kills anyone who looks into it for too long and makes everyone who doesnt look into it long enough to die obsess over getting another better look into it is, shockingly, bad news! im still wary of deprac and dont entirely trust them and tbh barnes lucy probably saved your ass from getting mirrored to death by smashing that shoddy piece of shit thing into pieces. so like, thank her. idk, get her a cake or something. i am of course also suitably wowed by how um. literally explosive things got at winkman's auction. did not expect them to blow the whole thing up. and i am glad they were fiiiinally able to work together with kipps' team to mutually save their own asses. it had to happen eventually ofc, but we know the threshold now. amused that lucy got out of this whole ordeal without further meaningfully interacting with another girl whatsoever though things of interest to me:

afaik we did not learn the name of the whispering skull, despite learning the names of like everyone else in bickerstaff's little death cult. i wondered very briefly if maybe the deceased's relationship to ghosts in life is a factor in how their own ghost manifests, vis a vis the type system. even with the skull being the only type three so far, i think bickerstaff decidedly put that idea to bed however. im also beginning to think that particularly old ghosts are more powerful, generally speaking, but thats probably just a survivorship bias?

the skull was marginally helpful to lucy when the chips were down?? genuinely did not expect that, but i suppose it has a more powerful interest in exploiting lucy's ability to commune with it than it does a desire to see her and her friends get their shit kicked in. im sure the skull would greatly enjoy watching all of them kick the bucket in a variety of gruesome and horrible ways, but it has a very material interest here, and it seems remarkably easy to manipulate with the simple threat of being buried somewhere and forgotten forever. much to think about! it makes me wonder if lucy is the first person to be able to hear it... i would suspect, given marissa fittes reporting the existence of type threes, and the fact that george stole the skull from the fittes agency, it may have been one of the type threes encountered by her

thinking on it now, the skull is not, afaict, mentioned to be smaller than an adult human's skull. so despite the skull serving as bickerstaff's psychic protege in life, it seems to not have met its end at the same time or circumstances as bickerstaff. then again, maybe he just started out as bickerstaff's psychic lackey, but proved to be useful enough to hang around for longer than his psychic ability was potent

🥳 Why did you start writing fanfic?

If I'm being brutally honest it really was because of covid LOL. 2020 was a real shitshow because my country (and pretty much the rest of the world) went into a really strict lockdown the day I graduated university and effectively thwarted all my hopes of celebrating with friends and going on grad trips. my bf and I were especially bummed because he'd gotten a fully-sponsored 3-month internship at The Hague and it would've been my first time in Europe, so I ended up coping by writing fic and making friends here -- which, in hindsight, turned out to be the best thing ever because everyone here has been nothing but lovely, especially you!!! 💛💛💛

🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?

HMMM probably Riza tbh. at risk of oversharing I can deeply relate to the whole daddy/mommy (?) issues thing but also I am anything but disciplined and strict irl. like if Riza could appear irl and whoop my ass into waking up and getting to work and completing what needs to be done on time I would be eternally grateful. ya gurl here has zero discipline and should literally be studying instead of lurking around on this hellsite but alas... here I am, a master at procrastination!!

if anything, writing is free therapy -- it has helped me so much in processing grief and unravelling entangled memories that I don't speak much about, and also appreciating the present. Yosano loves listening to true crime podcasts before going to sleep. One of Yosanos favorite activities is reading outside under some kind of cover in the rain, she finds it so soothing. whoop whoop last day! this challenge has been rly fun athough i reaaaaaaaally started slacking towards the end! anyway, let’s begin, my top 3 tips!

1. do your best to stay on track! there is literally not much more stressful than assignments piling up, and the more you procrastinate on it, the worse it will get! I know, it can feel REALLY overwhelming and you could not know where to start but tbh? just start somewhere, idc how big or small it is - it’s always better to quarter-ass things than not to ass them at all? you will be a few steps closer to finishing things up and being caught up with all work!

2. try to maintain a good relationship with your teachers! it will help you a lot of time - in case you don’t understand something, they will be eager to explain it to you, and will generally like you more if you see that you care about whatever they are trying to teach you. talk to them about the feedback you get! not to mention, it comes in handy when you need to get an extension on a project or if you can’t come in for your presentation on a particular day ;-)

3. go to class! seriously, just go. you don’t even have to participate actively. just listen to what’s being said. you will leave the classroom knowing 1% more on today’s topic than when you first entered it. also, it gives you the direct chance to talk to the teacher and ask questions.

hi anon! i’m currently answering this question under very dire circumstances-i have a nine page essay due for my harshest teacher tomorrow that i haven’t started and i’m going to bed in about twenty minutes! but it’s okay nbd lmao

this ask! it’s really not up my alley, because, as i’ve said before, i have no clue at all how i’ve reached this high of a milestone. i literally have THREE posts right now that are actually relevant to my studyblr and one that has 150+ notes for being #aesthetic. my posts with the highest notes aren’t even relevant to the studyblr community, but rather the figure skating obsession that i’m trying (see: failing) to get over. so honestly? no idea.

i will, however, tell you what you can do to gain more popularity (almost everything that i don’t do). this is under the cut because of how long this is (don’t let that deter you from reading this though ;D)

how to gain followers

post regularly, regardless of how “shitty” your posts may be (plot twist: no studyblr post is shitty ok!!)

learn how to use the schedule function. i have no clue how to use it tbh but it really keeps you on track if you have a lot of content that’s done and edited and all but you just lose track of posting time (this unfortunately, doesn’t work for me, someone who has zero content)

learn how to tag well! i know people put me in their tags (which is soooo flattering thank you so much!) but i typically don’t check it that often (for some reason my tag hasn’t been working when you search tumblr? someone halP) so i would suggest people who, of course, have a big following, check often and, most importantly, are willing to reblog posts from smaller studyblrs (sad to say not many, but i know @studyblr does)

as much as pictures are very aesthetically pleasing, i highly suggest writing masterposts or lists of tips and other stuff! i know that’s the type of content that i’m both interested in actually reading and putting on my blog, so that’s a definite reblog on my part. i will typically even save these in my drafts for future reference since i am hopeless at tags.

pictures are great, but are easy posts for insta (studygrams), and i find that tumblr is more useful than insta for the exact purpose of finding resources and tips instead of just aesthetics

langblrs: lists of vocab. think outside the box for this too; recently i reblogged a list of spanish vocabulary for the cafe. i can’t even tell you how interested i was in it, it was nice to see the words i knew being grouped differently and also have the opportunity to learn newer words

be active. don’t worry so much about how good your content is, or even how much-i think the fact that you are promoting and spreading any type of content is enough to keep the studyblr community going. often times i see a lot of studyblrs posting that their dash is dead and that they’re trying to go on a following spree. follow those posts, follow more people, and reblog more things. 

QUEUE THINGS. the queue function saves my dumb ass during the weeks where i really need to get to work and cannot afford to go on tumblr at all and also when i’m not on studyblr content. unfortunately i still find ways to procrastinate on tumblr though so whoops

get yourself involved in the community. this can be done in a number of ways:

be open to friends and new studyblrs! continuing on with the “getting involved with the community” note, it’s both an act of kindness and also a huge boost to new, small studyblrs for reblogging their introduction post. 

actually interacting with other studyblrs. i know the pain of having to interact, but i have seen the effect of my interactions with others, and it really pays off. i would say that the greatest increase in followers i had (while i was active starting christmas 2017 until now) was when i put out a post tagging over a hundred blogs to come and tALK TO ME and people did!!! and now i’m glad to say not only do i have tumblr friends, but people know that they’re always open to my ask box and are not reluctant to send me asks

doing tags and ask memes. i find this to be one of the best things of having a tumblr, i absolutely love the tags and ask memes. i actually have a bunch of ask memes saved for a time when i am not swamped with work and also my celebration requests. as for tags, it’s a way to get to present yourself to people, so why not?

reminder to always be careful with what kind of information you put on the internet though

challenges. one of the best ways, imho, to put yourself in the heart of the studyblr community. i, for one, absolutely adore looking at peoples challenges, it’s a good way to see progress in their work, expose yourself to more posts, and even motivate yourself to do challenges. although i haven’t caught on with this yet, i do hope to.

put effort in your posts. i know i’m very attracted visually, so i love posts with headers (you can use canva like me and em (@nichestudyblr) do :>)

be patient. results take some time :))

most importantly

remind yourself why you made a studyblr. in all honestly, if the answer to this is for more followers, i highly advise you to just…stop. that’s not the core motivation nor the purpose of a studyblr, and it shouldn’t be for anybody. followers are very insignificant in the long run, as popularity typically is. as much as i love all my followers, i do not-and should not-be losing sleep over whether or not you enjoy the content i post.

so something (refer to the song he said suits myday) happened with jae recently and ive seen fans trying to defend him by @ing him and saying that they love him which is fine - great even! but what i dont approve is how everyone’s basically forgotten about the whole matter because they had concerts so instead of @-ing him and asking him to explain himself, they tell him what a great concert it was which is also great bc their concerts are honestly amazing. basically my pet peeve is when ppl dismiss the problematic action of some people just bc they like them.

another thing is that there were some fans who started guilting others for wanting to drop day6 completely because of what jae did and in my opinion i think it is totally cool to want to drop a group if they did smth bad like??? its ur life???? u can choose who you want to like. what is not cool is pulling out all the good things the person has ever done in their entire life and try to remind others about the positive sides of the person. yes. they’re an encouraging person, etc. but that does not cancel out the bad things they’ve done until they explain/apologise. what is infuriating is just the manner some people took it?? they literally went ahead and tweeted shit like “would your parents drop you if you did smth wrong?” and “you’re seriously gonna drop someone whos been nothing been nice because of one incident?” yes. people will and you dont have any fucking right to stop them? so dont go pulling out receipts.

another thing. its also okay to want to stan the whole group even if someone has done smth problematic. like? to me youre cool if youre able to see and acknowledge the bad shit someone has done and still stand by their side while educating them at the same time its nice to have faith in your idols. however, i wont say much when your idols dont respond and/or respond in a way that shows absolutely no remorse. its cool if you want to support them too, despite that.

tldr; dont fucking excuse someone’s behaviour/action just because youre so far up their fucking ass. dont pull out shit from before either, be it good or bad. and lastly, its okay to want to drop/continue supporting them, its your life.

Day 88 (Monday June 8)

i woke up from a crazy dream where my siblings ad i were traveling by car in some magic world and i was katara. i dont remember much, but i tried to press an entire treebranch like you would flowers between the pages of a book while the city law enforcement was chasing after us. at one point we walked in on a presentation and when they told me to get off stage i asked if ic ould please speak for a moment. they told me no, so i asked pretty please. i think that was a re-occurring part of the dream. 

i dont really rmember the specific order of what i did today, but here we go. i  spent some time outside today with my cat and ate a sandwich, but it was so unbearably sunny that we went inside. i later came back outside in the evening at like 8 pm when it was cooler and shadier and i brought a spray botttle with a little fan on the top. i sat on a towel in the grass and kept an eye on my cat and watched tiktoks until my phone died, so i switched to playing with the grass and making grass chains that kept falling apart. i spent so much time outside that my mom got mad at me for not responding to her calling for my help inside. at some point i could hear the neighbor kids playing hide and seek in their backyard. im always afraid that they think i’m spying on them, since i face their house because thats the side of the yard my cat likes to hang out in. thankfully theres a big minibarn in the way, so if im sitting in the grass i cant see any of their backyard. 

i was hungry and wanted potato slices, and then i remembered that we owned an apple peeler/slicer/corer combo thing and i thought it would be cool to try using that instead of cutting the slices by hand. the peeler part had too strong a spring, so it dug into the potato so i just moved it back lol. it worked really well other than that. i sliced it, put it in a pan with some oil, and then tried cutting up an apple with the thing, but the spikes that hold it in place just bore a hole into the center instead of pushing it into the blade, so i just cut it buy hand perpendicular to how you normally cut apples. i thought it would be a fun idea to try and bake one of the slices, so i put it in a pan with a little pad of butter longside the potato in the oven, flipping both ever so often while watching youtube in the kithen. i added a little brown sugar to the apple slice. the potatoe turned out good, its hard to mess up lol. but the apple tasted like ass. the butter i used was salted, and the apple was sweet instead of tart, so i just threw it away. im glad i only used one of the slices instead of like 3 like i had origionally planned. i think if i used unsalted butter and a granny smith it would turn out ok, but i dont think im going to try it again lol.

i took a couple driving practice tests in the morning, but i got frustrated that i didnt know stuff and gave up. i promised myself that i would try again later today, but i kept procrastinating whoops. its 2 am but i might give it a shot. i have to practice a lot tomorrow, because if i dont pass i probably wont get to take it again for like a month because all the bmvs are so busy and only taking appointments. 

i was scrollling through tiktok and found an audio i thought was funny and would fit one of my ocs so i did a really rough sketch animatic that i’ll eventually clean up. i would add it to the post but im on my laptop right now because my phone died and my sister borrowed my charger :/ i’ll add it in the morning if i remember. yall are going to make fun of my for having a teeth kink or something tho because thats the only part of the sketches i put any effort into (pensive face emoji  😔) (idk if that worked i just copid and pasted it lmao) 

i dont acually know much about my friend’s oc (Osimiri/Osi) that i’m shipping with my oc (Valka) other than she’s kinda grumpy so i scrolled back through our texts to see if she gave me a ref or any character description and i found a bunch of her cute art of GillFauns (thats thier ship name because Osi is a siren (gill) and valka is a goatfolk/tirfling so she has hooves (faun (even tho she’sa goat not a deer shhh))) and now im re-obsessed with them omg <3 and i also realized that i have no idea if i’m drawing her correctly/ how my friend intended her to be interprited. our art styles are SO different, and with hers i have to just guesstimate what she means with her character designs. (tbh she’s not that good at art but i still love her drawings because she’s so passionate about it and i love some of her ocs) but because of a combo of her art not being that detailed and me just drawing from memebery and not knowing the character that well, i have no idea if i’m taking too many liberties and stealing the character away from her. although on the other hand she doesnt really actively use that oc. she was meant to be a dnd oc, but idk if she ever actually went to ANY of the meetings. if she did, it was before marching band ended and i was able to join dnd club. 

anyway sorry this post is so long, i fing it easier to ramble and get my thoughts down when im on a keyboard than on my phone typng is much faster and a lot of fun so i always type more lol. but uhhhh its 2 am and i want to take a driver’s test or two before i go to bed, and get to sleep at a decent-ish time.
