hello friends heres some more artist au ,,, i have A huge infodump under the cut ... u were warned

uhm mumbo is a tattoo artist in this au, hes the towns electrician primarily but he does tattoo work too. hes terrified of needles on his own skin but really enjoys the process of tattooing. i think he mostly does geometric stuff. probably hrm.

gem runs and owns the fishing dock/bait shop. shes born and raised in this town so shes been here her whole life. shes okay at painting but her real passion is with clay- specifically sculpting. shes taking a pottery workshop w grian but she like the freedom sculpting has that the wheel cant really give her...? if that makes sense.. she still likes it. when she paints she gravitates towards gouache and watercolors, she likes the fluidity she can achieve w em. also is very fond of how gouache lets u set it down then return and reactivate it w water again lol

pearl is a relatively successful artist, shes constantly traveling for art shows and also to host workshops/look for inspiration. she used to paint a lot, thats how she kinda got her fame... she used to paint this one girl a lot idk she has curly orange hair and freckles and shes always painted really beautifully. then stuff happened and now pearl mostly sculpts now. she still paints and her paintings are her most popular works but shes more into working w clay.

hm more abt this au, pearl and grian are siblings and both grew up learning oil painting. jimmy is also in this au im still figuring out a role but hes their cousin— basically brother— i was thinking pearls manager js coz i think itd b funny lol.

the setting is a small coastal town hrmm havent thought too much else abt it, was mostly pulling from coastal norcal ish...

in this au scar and grian are really really tight and have been living w each other for like 5/6 ish years. i dont think they officially get tgt... they think theyre woke asf n say they dont like labels (kinda kidding) the real reason is just timing. whenever grian is sick of running circles and works up the courage, scar usually has some complications hes working through and grian feels like hed just be another stressor added to his plate so he just wills it away... then when scar is like Im gonna do it. Im gonna tell him. Grian is experiencing sum kinda dilemma and is rly stressed so then scar is like well it can wait... (this goes on forEver.) whenever they do sync up, usually theyre far too scared about ruining their friendship and having to find a new roommate or something. they both r very important to each other and if bottling up their feelings means they can hold onto each other and keep each other around then thats what theyll do...! yeah theyre doomed🤦‍♂️.... they still basically do romantic activities tgt- they just think its normal coz its them.... also everyone around them thinks theyre secretly dating or smth anyways Yeah this is the au in a nutshell im such a sucker for long term pinning friends to lovers or whatever😭😭😭😭😭...

the aquamarine au

Info about au below (or at least what i have so far)

-based on the 2006 move Aquamarine, a teen romcom about two teenage girls meeting a mermaid and helping her find love to achieve their wish of one of them not moving away (its my childhood). this au takes basic plot ideas from the movie but with major changes

Jimmy and Joel are both 17. Jimmy's family owns a small, local beach resort where he also lives. Joel lives next door and they're basically attached at the hip and spend all their time at the resort. It's tense between them because Joel is moving far away by the end of the summer.

Scar is 19. He's been working at the beach as a lifeguard since he was in high school. Local sweetheart, everybody loves him. Seems like he sucks at his job, but nothing wrong ever really happens on his shift. Known flrt.

Grian is an unknown age but closer to Scar than Jimmy and Joel. I'm still working out his part. He's a mermaid who ran away from home. The Watchers are a group who protect mermaid pods but have very strict rules and archaic views; such as there is no such thing as love and have arranged a marriage for Grian he doesn't want (The Watchers in this au are less Mega Evil and more Parents Who Don't Understand and Kind Of Suck). He runs away to prove love exists. In doing so, getting into a major fight with his sister.

Grian gets caught in a storm and washes up into the pool of the beach resort, where Jimmy and Joel find him. They are SUPER cautious at first, but immediately offer to help him find true love when Grian tells them that helping a mermaid grants them a wish. They're hoping to use the wish to make it so Joel's family doesn't move away.

Grian is a bit oblivious to the human world, but even more so to the concept of love, because it is not common in the mer world. This leads Grian to believe anyone can love you with a bat of an eyelash, which leads him to try to woo the first interesting person who catches his eyes; aka Scar. When it doesn't immediately work, he's actually quite pissed off and thinks its Scar's fault for not falling in love with him. Jimmy and Joel proceed to make a plan to match the two together because Scar is so nice and probably the only person willing to give this weird and off putting mermaid a chance.

Unlike the movie, which takes place over a couple days, this au takes place over the course of a month or two, so there is even more chemistry between the cast. Hijinks and cringey romcom shenanigans ensue.

The ending is very different from the movie (im still thinking about it i dont have a lot for this au please go watch Aquamarine tho its my childhood and i love it)

uhhhhh IDK WHO IS GOOD FOR A CECILLIA CHARACTER. ok in the movie theres a character named cecillia shes the typical mean girl trying to stop the main characters from getting together. i wanna put someone in this role bc shes iconic and has funny moments im inspired by but im having a hard time thinking of someone who fits the role. any ideas for this or any thoughts at all are welcome, this au is for fun!!!

this idea literally came from thinking about how i see people either draw grian as a tired bird guy who probably smells like mothballs or a feminine gorgeous model (and both are great) but like. what if he was both at once?

also i’ve always found the idea of a character changing one thing and it throws everyone off really funny- aka superman glasses. this would be paired with some watcher magic as well, so everyone that meets cuteguy can’t seem to really remember his face.

also i don’t know how he would go from “normal” appearance to “cuteguy” appearance, maybe more watcher magic, maybe sailor moon magical girl sequence who knows! or maybe he just spends hours doing his hair and makeup idk.

some hotguy/scar/cuteguy/grian silly shenanigans occur probably hence the little comic. uhmmm that’s all for now,,,,,thumbs up

- mumbo: steel bc it's all quite simple (i was gonna do electric but it fits a little better for impulse and steel is still machines, plus steel fits mumbo's color scheme better)

- cleo: ghost bc she's literally undead

- tango: fire because he's literally tango

- lizzie: fairy bc pink and fairy fort

- joel: poison bc he's toxic /lh

- ren: dragon bc dragons are regal idk

- martyn: psychic bc he's always one step ahead

- etho: ice bc he's cold/quiet and ice didn't fit for anyone else

- bigb: ground bc backrooms (like, when he made those weird underground tunnels in secret life... it's a stretch but i didn't know who else for ground)

- gem: fighting bc geminislay

- pearl: dark bc the moon idk

- jimmy: normal bc he's just a dude (i feel bad giving him such a lame type but idk who else to give normal to lol)

- scar: grass bc sunflowers during secret life, plus poppies and lilacs for third life, plus he's really good at building landscapes

- scott: water bc mean gill

- bdubs: bug bc he's a gremlin (lol idk)

- impulse: electric bc redstone and yellow

- skizz: rock bc idk, muscles ?

Life Series Rare Pairs I Wanna See More Of

Inspired by everyone else on my tl posting their dream team lineups for a life series season, I decided to do my own by thinking of the most random combinations I can imagine that would be entertaining to witness. Some of these are gonna be more detailed, some are just for vibes, and some for shits and giggles. Also I haven't watched every single pov of every single series, and I have the memory of a goldfish sometimes, so forgive me if these aren't all THAT rare. 🙏

1. Cleo + Jimmy

- This duo materialized itself in my brain after a random wild life episode from Jimmy's pov where he had a near death experience and ran to Cleo for comfort. It's occupied a lil corner of my brain ever since.

- I think Jimmy would really benefit from someone like Cleo on his side. Someone who you know you can rely on and come back to whenever you're in need of help. Unless you betray them, Cleo is such a good teammate and has a mom/older sibling feeling to her.

- I can imagine she'd spend half the season convincing Jimmy not to go poking fun at ppl and making enemies, only for her to snap once someone kills her unjustly and goes on to commit arson apon half the server. Then the roles would switch.

2. Gem + BigB

- The difference between Cleo and Jimmy's paragraphs to these two... I told yall some of them are just fueled by the potential of vibes.

- I have no clue how these two would function together. They barely even interact. But that's exactly why I want them together!!!

- I feel like they'd be really wholesome. Knowing Gem she'd bring out the best in him... but I also feel like B would once again betray or back stab her in some way. Either way I've become too curious and invested now.

3. Grian + Pearl

- The fact that the skyblings themselves are a rare pair nowadays is concerning. They don't interact NEARLY enough. The amount of wasted potential is to cry about.

- I feel like they'd be all up in other ppl's business. If Pearl were to turn red before Grian, I think he'd have the same dynamic with her like with red lifer Scar in 3rd life, supporting and encouraging her crimes from afar, really birthing another menace on the server.

- They'd have the time of their lives while red together and I'd be SEATED.

4. Mumbo + Tango

- One episode they're the most miserable wet cats on the map, the next their trap kills half the server. Their fate as a duo would be a gamble.

- Idk if their combined brain power would cancel each other out or multiple. Most likely cancel out. Because putting an uncontrolable nervous wreck with the ticking timebomb of unhingness CAN NOT turn out positive.

- Still, it would be SO entertaining and probably make for funny quotes.

5. Lizzie + Bdubs

- It felt like my brain glitched a lil when remembering these two.

- I feel like they'd be weirdly wholesome?? Like they wouldn't stress each other out. Maybe Bdubs' vocal coards could finally catch a break from yelling every episode. Also lowkey feel like he'd try his best to protect her.

- Pls Watchers, let them build some cute cotteges in the woods somewhere in peace 🙏

6. Ren + Scar

- Ik they aren't THAT rare to see together, but the fact that they've never been close to teaming before is astonishing to me.

- If Scar doesn't turn Ren's thing with Martyn into a love triangle by the end of the season, no one else ever will. The Red Winter would rise once again, but with two kings this time.

- I just wanna see theater kids have fun, okay? Sue me if you must. Martyn can join in too I would not mind in the slightest.

Scar has two lesbian moms. Grian is being raised by a single mom who is often working, so he's at Scar's a lot

They're in the same grade, though Scar is older by about a few months (I havent decided when exactly their birthdays are, but I have a rough estimate of when in the year)

(Seeing as Scar was someone he was on like eh terms with. Scar didn’t kill him a couple times when he had the opportunity I think? God idk Limited was a BLUR)

and.. oh boy the Watchers definitely knew Scar would win so they probably destroyed the web for Cleo and Etho but SCAR KILLED ETHO AND CLEOS ONLY PLAYER DEATH WAS FROM PEARL?? (Random fact)

Quick ep 3 smallidarity thoughts as well

I might be delusional after that MCC practise stream, I might be. When Joel said he wanted Jimmy to survive, to make the top 10, to make the top 5. I might be delusional. But he seems so distressed about Jimmy's deaths. He scrolls up in chat to look at all the deaths again and sees Jimmy's death message and he is worried man. And then he hits yellow "Jimmy is on yellow! Stop it Jimmy!!" and then yelling again when Jimmy hits red and then when he sees him, he keeps zooming in on him "there's Jimmy! He's red!!" and then goes over to call him stupid. Which is incredibly expected of a distressed Joel lol

Initially I thought Jimmy was going after Joel so much because he was deadset on using minecarts, probably because it felt safe and like he wasn't risking much unlike with head on combat which he's probably just not confident enough to engage in without thinking he'd lose and die. But that left only Joel's and the Skizz/Mumbo/Grian base due to the height they had (Ren and Martyn had theirs blocked off). But then I watched Jimmy's POV and when he and Scar contemplate which snail to try and explode to see if it works, Jimmy suggests Joel's and then tries to very poorly justify why. So maybe Jimmy was intending to target Joel a little bit and it wasn't just accidental... God though I understand Joel's frustration because regardless, to him, it does look like Jimmy is just deadset to get him, he questions what he's even done to Jimmy to deserve this, and then again after his car gets blown up TO Jimmy and my god he is YELLING boyyy oh boyyyyy

That snail bit is seriously messing me up, idk wtf Jimmy was up to... why did he want to get at Joel specifically... Joel sounds so legitimately frustrated about the car it is hard to listen to. Not because I mind his yelling but ough t.the emotions girl. And then he closes his episode off with "Car's blown up. Jimmy's now gonna die. He's yellow. He'll be red soon thanks to me. I hate these(?).. ugh why's he blown up the car" and then a long sigh and the most exasperated farewell. He doesn't have it in him though, not until they're on even grounds at least (if Jimmy lives that long.. I have faith..) but I know he still wants Jimmy to survive, I know he still cares. But jesus

Scientists originally thought Ren's power was water-breathing, and he nearly drowned from a test

If Jimmy is invisible, and he stands in front of another person, they look to be invisible too. (Like a shield, sort of)

The first time Grian used Pearl's powers, he lost track of time and fell from a great height. It took a long time to recover.

BigB can breathe both oxygen and carbon dioxide, being part plant

Scott once turned into an elephant, surprising both himself and the scientists that were in the small room with him

Gem knows exactly what day it is because she can see the dates when in astral form

Lizzie's shadows can not only cause blindness, but also dampen the senses

Tango's portions are doubled, but Bdubs still gives him some of his food

Scar has inflicted several dents and cracks in the glass, but has yet to break it.

i realised that my griscott idea follows the same theme/premise as my limlife gritho from the other week, aka sex with feelings (about other people currently not in the bed) and now i'm thinking hey… maybe i'll turn this into a one-shot series?!

so! one fic for each life season starting with third life, focusing on the progression of desertduo's relationship. they'll each be written through the perspective of the person that's not-grian, so we get the outsiders' lens (though for third life i think i’ll write scar pov).

initially, i thought it would be fun for them each to be smut-shots. one of my favourite things to read is smut doubling as character study (or the reverse, if you will), and i wanna try my hand at it. buttt i think some actually work better in my head as not-smut which is just as fun!!

probably no explicit smut but some seemingly mundane but melancholic and sentimental scene?

you know, the whole complicated shebang of how desertduo came to be and manipulations and playing alongs but through it all, a genuine bond only deepening

this is all about showing how deeply the seeds for their Thing are sown

last life

smut - mumbo pov

i like the idea that there are romantic feelings between grumbo here, also because i am really loving mumscarian by extension

so grian has a crisis sometime early in because well, the end of 3rd life is hard to process when it involves killing one of the men you love and then you're thrown into another death game

grian teaming up with mumbo is very much a thing of comfort for him (in the beginning), so he spills his heart out one night and they basically have sad comfort sex

important: grian cries while they have sex

but it's ok! mumbo is here! and hes a little terrified because he doesn't fully grasp grian's feelings for scar's (no one does) but he talks grian through some things and then takes care of him

note: mumbo fully accepts grian’s whatever situation; he and grian have a stable relationship so there are no dramas with jealousy etc. especially as mumbo is also familiar with scar

oh boy this ended up being more elaborate than i planned

double life

re: no romantic or even sentimental feelings, just fwb - they’re both using each other to release general and sexual frustration

it could be fun if scar and pearl decide to stand in powder snow happen while this is happening - adding to the dissonant mix of emotions

i think this one will have some important contrasts to the scott fic - while that one occurs towards the beginning of its respective season, this one is near the end. while griscott chat during sex, gritho are mostly silent

i want to highlight how grim everything kind of feels; the desperation of holding onto someone when you know the end is coming soon

secret life

now i'm not so sure about this one... it could be interesting to make it a solo grian pov? as he was alone for most of this season and i don't feel like writing him with etho again or cleo, maybe this could be a masturbation fic. idk!

or you know, it could be really interesting to write him with joel... there's that episode where they essentially become soul bound. i think their bond through the seasons is also very interesting. my brain is whirring

but i DO at least know that there will be reflections and thinkings of the good and bad times with scar. not so much crushing yearning or desperation or mourning like the previous fics, but something like the way to healing...

wild life

the healing arc be upon us!! i did write my first scarian fic RIGHT before the episode of them teaming up released so that was a wild (haha) day for scarian nation

will of course explore how exactly it progresses to them being (more) okay again, through wild life and also prev seasons (closure and all that)

maybe a grian pov?? TBC but that could be a meaningful full circle moment if we start off with scar’s pov in 3L

paralleling the third life fic, i think i’ll have this one be non-sexual intimacy. yay!

you know, now i'm thinking that i might even write it as a chapter fic instead of a multi-fic series. baby's first chapter fic would be an interesting challenge for my very messy writing process!! but i’ll keep thinking on it.

I think the biggest appeal of the third life desert duo storyline to me is the fact that they broke all the established rules.

Scar turns red and he doesn't turn on Grian like he's supposed to. Grian, a green life, kills three people under Scar's name. Even in the end, they still claim it as a double victory despite the very rules of the game stating that there can only be one winner.

Idk I'm probably not articulating it as clearly as I'd like to, but it's still just so insane to me how the entire course of the life series could have been very different depending on how the first game played out, and yet Grian, the maker of the game, bent, if not broke the rules for Scar multiple times. Scar himself laid the grounds for how yellow/red lives should act because he was the first in the entire history of the life series to reach them. Together, they blurred the lines between "rules" and "suggestions" and I think that has contributed so much to this series we've all come to love.

I mean, we all know and love the lilacs and poppies moment, I'm pretty sure the line "can we still be friends?" is all but etched in our minds at this point, but just talking a second to imagine what could've happened had Scar not returned to the ravine with flowers in hand is mind boggling. Bamboozling, even.

Would all red names from that point on play solo? What then would happen to the Red King? His Hand? What of double life? Would soulmates split up? Would soulmates have even been a twist in the first place? idk its just crazy that we've gotten so many interactions and beloved moments all because someone broke the rules at the very start.

And idk you can kinda see that repeating trend of bending/breaking rules a little bit more with each season, in different interactions, even in how different the twists to each game are, becoming less and less uniform and more and more open to creative input, allowing the creators to weave and tell their own stories, to bend the rules whichever way suits them to fit their storyline.

Take Martyn's Eyes & Ears AU for example-- according to his storytelling, the emotions the Watchers hate the most are love and trust, so for a character that is trying to rebel against the Watchers, what better way is there to do so than to stick with their closest ally even on their red life? To break Their rules?

And Grian and Scar aren't the only ones to break the rules either! Scott's refusal to conform to the boogeyman curse in Last Life set a precedent as well! As did his and Cleo's refusal to team with their soulmates in Double Life. I'm so interested to see how this trend of breaking rules continues throughout the series... who knows! Maybe we'll get someone just start killing right off the bat as a green life! Maybe Scar wears that helmet on purpose! Maybe someone will win without ever spilling a drop of someone else's blood! The possibilities are endless and yet ever-expanding.

And idk maybe it was all bound to happen this way anyway, maybe it didn't really even matter that Scar brought back flowers, because someone was going to break a rule somewhere along the line regardless, but it's interesting food for thought, wouldn't you agree?

songbird au (mumscarian)

i came up with this new mumscarian au (someone help me) and i must share its details with at least one person out here cause i'm going absolutely crazy lol so here are some ideas after the cut! (please note that i don't know the specifics yet; these are just starting points!)

this au would take place in a mix of a steampunk/cyberpunk setting

the watchers are in charge of people's and nations' fates (they're gods); they enjoy causing chaos through wars and battles

watchers control said people and nations through vessels (or individuals) called 'colibris' (which is the plural form of the word 'colibri' and means 'hummingbird' in french; pronounced kol-ee-bree)

each nation has its own colibri; they're highly revered because they are basically the watchers' prophets. they are high-status (like royalty). they're singers, though their songs and words persuade others and manipulate people's emotions! thus, they realize watchers' prophecies and fulfill their goals

grian is a colibri! he resides in the capital of his nation, hermitiapolis (placeholder name). he absolutely hates being a colibri, though; he feels like a plaything, like a mere toy, and hates causing people's misery

mumbo is his bodyguard; he despises seeing grian suffer because of his nature, and is ready to do whatever that's in his power for grian to finally feel happiness (grian appreciates the thought but cannot help but feel as if it is useless, especially because watchers are always watching and using grian for propaganda)

grian and mumbo are in love huehue ;; though it's controversial, so they keep their union a secret (especially because no one is supposed to touch colibris - but watchers - and 'touched colibris' are considered 'tainted' and 'impure' by watchers) (it's a sacrilege) (the watchers know tho... they're always watching mwuahaha - great starting point for lots of angst and drama me thinks)

before they can even concoct a plan to escape the capital though, an assassin infiltrates the palace and threatens to kill grian

the assassin is (of course!) scar :D

scar is part of a group of assassins who wish to annihilate watchers (and, consequently, the first step in their plan is to murder colibris)

mumbo, scar, and grian then come to an agreement: they escape the capital and begin their journey across the world in hopes of finding a way to harm and potentially kill the watchers without necessarily killing colibris

eventually, scar falls in love with waffle duo, and waffle duo reciprocate his feelings (squeals)

evidently, the watchers are mad at grian's attempts to reject his nature, but they cannot really harm him or kill him since they need him for their purpose (lol). because they can possess colibris (and take over their bodies and thoughts), they decide to control him from time to time and make him sing to scar and mumbo to hurt them through persuasion and emotion-control

scar has magic that sometimes allows him to resist the call of colibris, though (don't know how, don't know what, but he does lol - still working on that!)

grian is even more horrified, then, because he truly doesn't know what he's fully capable of (and he's hurting the ones he loves ;;)

as for appearances, i had this vision where grian was wearing a golden mask and golden headphones (with wings on the sides). holograms would be part of the elite class' common attire, and so people would add non-existent accessories to their appearances. therefore, grian would have 'fake' golden wings; he cannot fly with them, they're only for appearances

i'm thinking of making grian trans for this au as well... he would be afab and would identify as a man

scar would most probably be on the ace spectrum (like myrsexual and/or greysexual)

they're all poly! :P

general colours for this au are dark purple, gold and white (idk i like to associate random things to aus to make it more fun lol)
