Canonical difference between Sasuke and Naruto in terms of their canon parings - a rant

Now to the point

Who is the most important person in life for Naruto and Sasuke?

Let's start with Naruto, because for anyone who has read the series, it's obvious.

For Naruto it's SASUKE.

No doubt. Comparing importance of Sasuke and importance of Hinata in Naruto's mind is laughable. Saying that Hinata is more important - is straight up delusional.

Naruto, after a thought that someone can try to k*ll Sasuke, even tho he knows Sasuke is stronger than most of the universe:

Devastated. Hyperventilating. Unable to breathe.

Naruto, after thinking he destroyed the WHOLE VILLAGE, every villager, including Hinata:

Sad, sure, not sad enough to check on her, even tho he was in sage mode so he could feel she was literally dying.

Naruto, after seeing Hinata nearly die to the point she had to be hospitalized and felt the effects of it months after:

I'll fight you Neji.

(I'll also like to remind everyone that Naruto did jump at Neji, but not because of Hinata but because he called her a "loser" and said that every looser would stay a loser, which Naruto took personally. Even that whole fight means to Naruto not revenge for Hinata, but a revenge for saying that loser will lose. Read the manga.)

Naruto, after Kabuto just mentioned Sasuke's name:

Sasuke went there on his own will, but just the thought of losing him was too much for Naruto.

Naruto, thinking Hinata died protecting him. The only person that has ever said she loves him, to the person who wants love the most - dead:

Naruto - surprised, terrified even, but not bat shit crazy. He needed Pain to talk shit and say about love causing hatred. Pain had to continue the whole "everyone is gonna die" narrative for Naruto to explode. He can become Kurama in seconds, but he needed Pain to continue - to explode.

And then he didn't even check on her.

Naruto, thinking Sasuke died for him. Without the whole "I love you" stuff. Just a friend protecting him:

(A reminder, it was when the seal was very strong. Naruto wasn't using so much of Kuramas chakra, so it was WAAAY harder for him to go into Kuramas mode.)

Then Naruto checking on Sasuke (when he was certain that Sasuke died) and crying out of happiness when Sasuke turns out alive

And last but not least, Naruto ready to die with Sasuke. Saying it eith smile on his face. No mention of Hinata even tho it was right after her love confession:

You can ship NaruHina, but saying that Naruto would chose Hinata over Sasuke is a different level of delusional. The whole plot of the series is that Naruto would do anything for Sasuke. He would k*ll for Sasuke and die for Sasuke.

Sasuke is the most important person in Narutos life. Anyone who says differently has NEVER read the manga or just uses wishful thinking instead 🤷‍♀️

I would even go further and say that the moment when Naruto was telling Minato about finding love that is not exactly like Kushina - he was talking about Sasuke. But it's not per se canon so I'm gonna keep it out 🤷‍♀️

Alright, since I’ve received multiple asks about who I ship Sasuke with (or if I have a problem with specific ships), I’ll reiterate my posture regarding shipping culture:

I think it’s very poor, borderline shortsighted, to focus so incredibly much on the possibility of a character –that never specified being sexually interested in anyone, having a romantic partner. Besides the fact that Sasuke is a very traumatized man, a survivor of state-sanctioned genocide which affects his libido to the point of it being non-existent, the entirety of his characterization revolves around him seeking justice for his family. No. It’s not about his bond with Naruto, it’s not about his apparent sexual tension with Karin, nor is it about his crush (the fuck?) on Sakura. 

It’s Naruto the one whose characterization revolves around his bond with Sasuke, it’s Karin the one whose characterization revolves around her sexual desire for Sasuke, and it’s Sakura the one whose characterization revolves around her crush on Sasuke –Sasuke’s entire arc differs completely from theirs, as his entire goal, through the entire series, is about seeking justice for his family. 

What happens once Sasuke realizes he won’t be able to kill Itachi if he stays in Konoha? He leaves because he chooses his goal as an Avenger before his connection with Team 7 (yes, Itachi’s presence also reminded him of the imminent threat of having bonds that Itachi could easily destroy, but he doesn’t leave to protect T7, but to seek power to kill his brother). What happens once Sasuke kills Itachi? He learns about the truth behind the UCM, and decides to barge into the Kage Summit to kill Danzo and not return to Konoha. What happens once he kills Danzö? He still decides not to return and plans to bring the entire system down. I mean, where is his “bond with Naruto” in all this? Where is his “sexual tension” with Karin in all of this? Where is Sakura’s relevance in all of this? At no single moment does he focus on these bonds, often questioning the reason why these people are so adamant about pursuing him. Am I saying that they don’t matter at all to him? No, and you know that’s not the point of the post unless you’re looking for a reason to get upset in which case, I cannot help you. What I’m saying is that they’re not relevant to his main goal or characterization, as that power rests upon Itachi’s shoulders. Each character here mentioned has either more or less importance throughout his journey, but none of them are detrimental to his objective and none of them are important enough for him throughout the manga to deviate from his ambition (he even tried to kill each one of them when he deemed them a liability or they threatened the continuation of his mission).

Who do I ship Sasuke with? Nobody, I don’t enjoy a single pairing that is attributed to him, and I wish the fandom would realize that the entire plot revolves around the actions and consequences of a fascist regime, and not about who wanted to secretly or not so secretly fuck who, or who deserve his dick and who doesn’t. Yes, I’m being blunt, and some of you will think I’m exaggerating, but if you don’t see me talking about ships as often as you see me speaking about feminism or politics inside the Naruto manga, well, what a shocker, there’s a reason for it.

And to prevent people from putting words in my mouth, let me say this: I’m not saying you can’t enjoy a ship –go crazy if that’s what you want, do art, fanfics, and whatever rocks your boat, I won’t go after you trust me, but oh my god how come some of you would give a “potential romantic couple” so much more relevance than the actual plot?! Sasuke plainly and continuously reminds the characters and the readers what his true goal is and what he wants, and still, some of you will force a deep reading of a bubble of speech detached from his overall characterization to prove that he was smitten with x,y,z all along!

my assumption is that,

naruto used to feel hinata and went on a date and had sex, lead family life with children & hinata

but fell out of that passionate feelings

remained just love and companionship as a father and to the partner who is mother of his children, that's their connection became like that after few years of himawari's birth

but Sakura forced sasuke into one night stand unwillingly and had sarada in a hideout Sasuke left, Sasuke did give Sakura place in his life and promised would return till then asking to wait by that forehead tap and next time dialogue and thank her for her devotion and all the help but sakura crossed the boundary and didn't respect his wish by forcefully causing one night stand when he wasn't even ready for sexual relation so some tricky way of sakura like how she fit her photo over Karin photo,

Then forcefully chased after him when Sasuke refused bc of his mission and journey and he left on a Kaguya mission, sakura gave birth in Karin hideout but I am sure Sasuke wasn't there when Sarada was born that's why they don't have at least one photo with Sasuke but sakura and Sarada have tons alone and together, Sasuke didn't know she was pregnant otherwise he would have given something to sakura as a keepsake for the child.

Sasuke wasn't ready to be in a sexual and parental relation bc of journey at that time, sakura forced herself onto him sexually and made him a father who was unwilling or not prepared at that time that's why sasuke didn't maintain communication with sarada and sakura but with naruto only and why sakura so tensed throughout the gaiden and secretive,

But Sarada's plea and wanting to be loved by her father reconsidered his decision to stay away from his family in Gaiden and he now pretending to be a couple with Sakura in front of Sarada for her sake and trying his best to be a loving and protective father to sarada but his marriage with sakura loveless and only Sarada connected them and he always on mission but he always feels different around naruto,

a warm and passionate feelings with naruto joking and laughing and he felt like dying when naruto in danger, naruto feels the same warm and passionate feeling around sasuke even after years, which he also used to feel around hinata and children but died out soon now after few years of himawari's birth, with only sasuke remains that's why he gets positive and full of life and forget about work when he hears sasuke is near or sasuke's hawk sent message,

naruto's love for boruto parental love remains strong

sasuke's love for sarada parental love has bloomed and trying hardest to improve

sasuke's love for sakura is that she is part of the family and hardworking and well wisher like kakashi and grateful to her for taking care sarada and that's all he doesn't feel deep about sakura, just he is grateful for sakura being in the family and as sarada's mother as a capable and strong mother,

naruto's love for hinata has become like sasuke's love for sakura when naruto fell out of that warm and romantic feelings to hinata after years of himawari, just like sasuke he feels now grateful for hinata being in his life as children mother but that passionate feelings don't exist anymore between them

and sasuke and sakura had no so such feelings among them just that sakura desperately forced herself on sasuke before their relationship could bloom like naruhina but sakura's desperation destroyed that development and it never went to that blooming stage rather only survived because of sarada's existence that sasuke ready to accept her as a wife yet rude and only became good when sarada became suspicious of their relation but grateful to her as sarada's mother and taking care of him and sarada in the family currently

but naruto and sasuke still feel after years after years that warm and passionate feelings for each other that's why sasuke smiles near naruto when he doesn't near anyone except sarada or his calm face becomes terrified when naruto is in big danger( but very calm face when sakura is in danger even in gaiden)

and naruto who wanted to ditch his duties or anything if it means to meet sasuke and to be near sasuke( he doesn't even sleep with hinata in same bed only eats together with children)

i don't know how to characterized what that warm and passionate feelings of narusasu is?

whether you think it's platonic soulmate or romantic with semi physical intimacy(not sexual at all but touches more deeply and affectionately. than towards their wives) or confusing deep brotherhood or deep mutual friendship for life .

1. i think it's an overstrech to say kakashi "accepted" sasukes revenge , when through most of it  he was just indifferent to the idea of his revenge(on introduction, he doesnt care that sasuke's main goal in life is revenge) and kakashi helped shikamaru with his revenge , so I preassume ,revenge isnt something kakashi is inherently against so there is no “accepting” sasuke for a different belief like you paint it out to be . although he never backs on using his goal pf revenge (and feelings for his dead clan) as baits for mocking him when he couldnt match up his expectations (land of waves arc) .

i mean what was he supposed to do ? send him unequipped to the most brutal round 2 contender(-GAARA who whooped 4 gates lee to the point he couldnt be a shinobi again), why does kakashi doing his basic teacher duties make you gape in awe , a lot of fandom whines he didnt taught it to naruto or sakura (never minding neither of them could EVER use chidori properly since they lack sharingan)  and sakura wasnt even finalized for round 2 . never mind how brutal it was of kakashi to make a severly bed ridden sasuke(who was unfit to EVEN WALK-medical attendant’s words) participate in the match further despite the hokage’s and anko’s (who alone knew what it was like to have a curse mark placed on you) advice and call him to learn the technique when medically ,he was severaly hurt .

and when does fighting being motivated by anger (after just awakening from your deathbed btw) is suffiecient to negate the purpose of someone's lifes -especially sasuke’s for which he was ready to sell his soul and body-to get some semblence of justice for his family, remember  lee attacked sasuke brutally for no reason but to “prove himself” , insulted his clan and even when he had an upper hand in match he was about to use a forbidden technique just to hurt sasuke more .-even when lee is reprimended by gai, gai doesnt negate his life’s purpose - for which lee worked so hard , and even in their battle before sasuke CHALLENGED naruto, he didnt attack him , he only bellitles him (as a cope ,after he is traumatised by his brother for a whole day, humiliated  and almost killed) it is naruto who ACCEPTS the challenge and gets petty never minding the condition of sasuke, it is NARUTO who get ready to pull a rasengan on his “best” friend despite his “bff”, when sasuke had just woken up( from life threatening coma and mental scarring that 1 complete day of torture can give a 13 year old along with being beaten and humiliated )   , naruto getting all riled up -although mind you he first hand witnessed what happened to sasuke , he heard sasuke's screams and the brothers' "interaction" firsthand , neither sakura nor kakashi saw it firsthand , he gets all riled up as his friend just woke from coma like the hyper insecure twat he is -although he couldve refused ? if he possessed any sympathy or empathy for the boy that is even a 13 year old and no one, for a boy he claimed to be his "friend". neither jiraiya nor kakashi reprimands him but anyways ,

4.sasuke pulled a chidori? so , like i said before naruto pulled out his strongest move first what do you expect  sasuke to do ?  beg him to draw out the rasengan ? it is only not only fair for him to have used chidori but actually very obvious, never minding the rasengan was more POTENT than the chidori he used and wouldve hurt HIM regardless. reiterating it again naruto would have severely hurt hurt his friend when his friend is unwell, was brutally tortured and beaten in front of him and just woke up from a coma form which his death was almost certain, just because he is an insecure twat.

Yes, yes, yes to all of this 👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼 I’m looking at you SasuNaruSasu 😬 Naruto and Sasuke have wayyy more chemistry than they do with Hinata or Sakura whom they both canonically marry. Even in Boruto, SasuNaru spend more time together than with their families and it’s cruel to their wives. Canon would have been better off putting them together (after Sasuke gets some major therapy).

Hinata’s entire personality is Naruto even though she has awesome abilities and a heartbreaking backstory that could have been explored more to have her come into her strength of her own accord. Instead her entire screen time hinges on her obsession with Naruto. She and her sister and Neji could have banded together to take down her father and do away with the branch family and their awful seals. Even if Hinata didn’t want to lead the clan her character could have had so much influence and done so much more then we are given. They could have made Neji the head of the clan. It would be a full circle moment for the three of them to escape their so called “fates” and rewrite the story for their people. Instead Neji dies for the sake of her and Naruto getting together. His sacrifice was wasted. He only escapes the seal in death which means he had never escaped fate at all.

My girl Sakura is the only member of Team 7 with ZERO backstory- nothing about her family, barely anything else bar the whole Ino fight in the chunin exams. She becomes Tsuna’s apprentice and is a baller medic and fighter but she only gets one awesome fight and her personality still hinges on her love for Sasuke. It would have been cool to see her grow past the obsessive little girl crush and love and care for Sasuke as a teammate. He had done so much wrong to her and the rest of the team and all of it just gets swept under the rug. Sasuke leaves right after being exonerated and Sakura just waits. And waits. For him to come back and they get married. The relationship gets no development and neither party matures enough to be together.

I write mostly KakaSaku and I always struggle to write Sakura’s perspective over Kakashi’s. And it’s this reason. Kakashi has a fully fleshed out and complicated backstory and past and so much growth as a character. Sakura is nearly a clean slate which can be fun but it’s also overwhelming cause I have to add more to her because canon was lacking. She deserved more. All the female characters in Shonen deserve more.

This is not hate on NaruHina or SasuSaku or any other ship. I am 💯 pro ship whether that ship is canon or not. This is criticism of a much bigger issue where females get left out of complexities in writing. Or left out of writing in general.

It just kills me when writers create franchises where like 95% of the speaking roles are male, then get morally offended that all of the popular ships are gay. It’s like, what did they expect?

I think I’ve made this post before but it’s always crazy to me that ppl hate Sasuke so much yet say they loooove Naruto. Like Naruto isn’t even really about Naruto becoming Hokage. We don’t even get to see how Naruto becomes hokage in pre or Shippuden. The story starts with Naruto being assigned to team 7 and having proximity to Sasuke. The first big arc, Land of Waves, lays the foundation for their friendship. Pre literally ends when Sasuke leaves. The crux of Shippuden is getting Sasuke back. Not because Naruto thinks it’s the right thing to do, not because Naruto promised anyone, but because Naruto can’t bear that Sasuke’s alone out there and suffering. And then when Sasuke’s back, it ends. It’s literally the Naruto AND Sasuke story. Idk it’s just mind boggling that ppl act like they’re the number one Naruto fan but have such vitriol for Sasuke like Naruto isn’t his number one cheerleader who would literally die for Sasuke when literally no one asked for him to do so

Yeah, in the end, I think it’s because - Naruto’s love is very selfless.

As long as Sasuke’s not endangering himself, he’d let him go of, if Sasuke told him its what he needs to do.

He only tries to force Sasuke, because he’s scared of what could happen to him.

I think that’s why Sasusaku bothers me so much. Because at no point did it feel like that’s why Sakura wanted to stop him from leaving. She just didn’t want him to leave her. Which is incredible selfish, not to mention stupid af.

Stupid because - she clearly couldn’t (and still can’t) tell how little Sasuke cares about her. She tries to persuade him with her love for him, but to him that’s nothing. Sasuke’s really goal oriented, so you’d have to be pretty significant to distract him from his goal. And Sakura just isn’t that significant to him.

She’s not Naruto. Sasuke considers Naruto his closest friend - that friendship was built on understanding. Can’t say the same for his virtually nonexistent ‘frienship’ with Sakura.

She clearly doesn’t understand him if she though that was the right route to take.

Naruto did though. Hence why he tells him he’s only trying to stop him because he doesn’t want him to get hurt.

So yeah

Naruto = selfless love for Sasuke, based on friendship and understanding

Sakura = selfish love for the image she’s created of Sasuke in her head, based on only her own feelings and perceptions.

Anyways…

Hypothetically, if Oro didn't intend to harm Sasuke, but to receive his tutelage Sasuke still must leave the village and became nukenin, will Naruto allow Sasuke to leave?

If Oro is not a creepy monster... And he is someone on the level of Zabuza i.e, Ruthless and yet Powerful but has no intention of abusing a little kid... I think Naruto would let Sasuke go and after that he'd beg to Tsunade to not pursue/execute Sasuke considering his Nukenin status.

Because, the only reason Naruto tried to stop Sasuke from leaving the village was to not let Sasuke to be taken by that Snake Monster.

The mention of Orochimaru is not just one or two... It's more than that.

Naruto admitted that even if Sasuke don't consider him as his friend, Naruto still couldn't let Orochimaru take him.

And considering Chapter 699, Naruto indeed let Sasuke go for his self-realization journey... So, it's not like he want to keep Sasuke with himself because of his feelings.

So, Naruto will allow Sasuke to leave.
